Our children, including LGBTQ Americans, are important to our nation's future. It is crucial that we treat everyone in our country with care and respect. This administration wants to assure LGBTQ Americans, especially children, that they are loved, heard, and supported.

And I want all of you just to know exactly where we are as far as our neighbors go. Minneapolis will continue to be a safe haven for undocumented immigrants, for our trans community. Regardless of who you are or where you come from, Minneapolis is a place where you should be proud to call home.

I led a 5,000 student walkout to protest invasive laws in Florida. Governor DeSantis demanded universities share trans students' health records, violating their rights. I advocate for diversity and access to healthcare. As a teacher, I can't use students' preferred pronouns, which is absurd. I'm committed to ensuring everyone in the state is respected, healthy, and safe.

Additionally, I will support legal action for victims to sue doctors involved in these procedures. The Department of Justice will investigate pharmaceutical companies and hospitals for potential cover-ups of the long-term effects of sex transitions. I ask for pronouns and share mine to create a safe space. If you mess up, apologize and correct yourself. Share your pronouns even if you're cisgender to create inclusivity. Don't ask if someone is LGBTQIA plus, assume everyone is until told otherwise. Display rainbows and LGBTQ+ symbols to show allyship in the classroom. Wear rainbow clothes, lanyards, and badges to convey safety and support for LGBTQ+ individuals. These actions have been appreciated by LGBTQ+ individuals who feel comfortable coming out.

It's been an incredible first month. We've achieved transformative action, restoring our nation in numerous ways. We ended DEI across the federal government, terminated related federal workers, and restored merit-based policies. We've ensured fair enforcement of civil rights laws and cracked down on illegal racial discrimination. We've saved women's sports by prohibiting men's participation, ended radical gender ideology in the federal government, and reaffirmed the biological basis of sex. The military is now solely focused on readiness. We've launched a historic cost-cutting effort, uncovering corruption and saving billions. We've renamed the Gulf Of Mexico to the Gulf Of America and Mount Denali to Mount McKinley to restore patriotism. We've ended weaponization of the federal government and federal censorship, protecting free speech. The death penalty is back for heinous crimes, restoring law and order.

We operate within a civil rights framework in this state, which includes trans youth. The notion that there are only boys and girls is biologically inaccurate, as science shows a more complex continuum. Some children are born intersex, and others have inconsistencies between their chromosomes, hormones, and sex at birth. Regardless, state laws are clear: students can identify and participate in activities based on their identified gender. We will uphold this law.

Alberta has recently joined Saskatchewan and New Brunswick in attacking the rights of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, particularly trans and gender diverse students. This is concerning because these students already face higher rates of suicide, homelessness, and involvement in the child welfare system. Instead of taking away their rights and making spaces less safe, we should be working to protect and further their rights. As the spokesperson for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, I have been proud to work with my colleagues across party lines to support the rights of trans and gender diverse students in our education system. We will continue to ensure that the government respects their rights and promotes inclusivity and justice in Nova Scotia.

And can I just say, we can talk about economic growth and feeding children and growing the economy and creating jobs simultaneously with talking about everybody's human rights matters, and we shouldn't be demonizing them? You can do both. We were instructed to use gender-neutral terms, replacing "mother" and "father" with "parent," and "brother" and "sister" with "sibling." We learned to affirm transgender children and were shown supportive videos about transgender individuals, emphasizing that rejecting or not affirming someone’s identity could be harmful. The school referred to women as AFAB individuals with vulvas and encouraged us to introduce ourselves with our pronouns and to ask others for theirs during introductions.

Governor Walz has been supportive of the LGBTQ community since his days as a high school teacher. He has shown up for the transgender community by supporting bills like the trans refuge bill. Walz believes in making Minnesota the best place for all families.
