I am now able to walk with my husband, Michael, and hold hands, something that many Americans were unable to do for years. It's a whole new world for me. Many serve out of family tradition or a calling to humanity, risking their lives for our safety. We must remember and appreciate their sacrifices. Throughout the year, opportunities exist to learn about Canadian military history and the stories of those who served. Engaging with this history fosters understanding and compassion. It’s heartening to see Calgarians participating in ceremonies and learning about our heroes. Today, we pause our routines to acknowledge our fortunate lives in a peaceful country. I cherish the connections I've made with veterans and service members, which inspire me to raise awareness of military service's significance. My heartfelt gratitude goes to the families of the fallen, veterans, and active service members for their sacrifices. Thank you.

Without them, we would not have been able to navigate this war.

In the United States, military service is uncommon, and few people have personal connections to those serving. This contrasts with the situation here, where military involvement is more prevalent.
