Canada has opportunities in carbon capture, small modular reactors, and hydrogen, and could be a clean energy superpower. Mark Carney's ideas about energy omit the fact that Canada produces less than 1.5% of total global emissions. Even if Canada were wiped off the map, it wouldn't matter. Also, about 96% of all the machinery for climate change is made in China.

Climate change is an existential threat that we all recognize, but addressing it creates value. Society increasingly values achieving net zero, spurred by sustainable development goals, the Paris agreement, social movements, and government action. Companies and investors who are part of the solution will be rewarded, while those lagging behind will be punished. Investing in new technologies and changing business practices to reduce and eliminate climate change is vital.

According to Speaker 0, Canada's new prime minister threatened to seize capital from companies not advancing Canada's climate agenda. Speaker 1 stated the goal is for every financial decision to consider climate change, backing companies that are part of the solution and taking capital away from those who are part of the problem. Speaker 0 claims the prime minister is a fan of censorship and threatened American social media platforms, referencing a statement by Speaker 1 that large American online platforms have become seas of hate and are being used by criminals to harm children, and that his government will act. Speaker 0 asserts there is no free speech in Canada and that the prime minister wants to ban social media platforms, shut down dissent, and use the climate crisis as an excuse to steal from businesses and control their means of production. Speaker 0 concludes that while the friendship between the US and Canada will continue, the "free ride" is over.

To transition from a fossil fuel society to a renewable one, rich countries need to lead by funding research and development and implementing policies like carbon taxes. This will create demand for clean products and lower economic costs, allowing middle-income countries to transform their industries without hindering economic growth. Although many companies will fail, a few dozen successful ones can make a significant impact. By incentivizing the private sector and harnessing human ingenuity, we can find the solution to this challenging but worthwhile endeavor.

There is a significant effort by the Trump administration to reverse current energy policies, which could negatively impact the economy but benefit China in the clean energy competition. China plans to build 100 new coal plants and 10 nuclear plants this year, indicating that the focus is not solely on clean energy. I support the construction of more nuclear plants, but it's important to note that the Inflation Reduction Act's projected spending is excessively high according to the CBO.

Canada, with a population of 41 million, holds vast resources, including crucial energy and water. Recently, Canadians have expressed interest in the potential for an economic union with the U.S., which could enhance trade and security against external threats from countries like China and Russia. This union could involve a shared currency, unified tax systems, and streamlined travel, similar to the EU. However, many Canadians are hesitant about the current government, particularly Trudeau, leading negotiations for this deal. As a result, there's a desire for new leadership to initiate discussions on this promising opportunity.

Mark Carney is a prime advocate of net zero and has planned the destruction of the fossil fuel industry. He also supports a post-national view of Canada, defining it as an oppressive, patriarchal, white supremacist, colonial settler state. This does not bode well for Canada's economy, which Carney believes can be replaced by hydrogen, solar, and wind power. This replacement is argued to doom Canadians to starve and freeze. While Canada congratulates itself on its righteousness, its diet will become thinner as the U.S. experiences explosive economic growth while Canada descends toward poverty and irrelevance. Unlike Justin Trudeau, who is influenced by the World Economic Forum, Carney is a leader of that movement.

China is using green technology to make the United States and other developed countries dependent on them. They expect Western countries to reduce fossil fuel emissions and go green, while they themselves don't take responsibility for historic global warming. This strategy is dishonest and subverts the United States' national security by making it reliant on China for energy. Wind, solar, and electric vehicles all rely on rare earth minerals, which China controls. They have no environmental regulations and process the majority of rare earths. China is also the sole producer of refined graphite used in EV batteries. Despite this dependence, politicians are pushing for green mandates without considering the implications of relying on China. This situation is frustrating and puts the US at risk of being owned by China.

Canada needs a change in leadership, as the current situation is dire. The capital flight and decline in GDP per capita over the past eight and a half years are attributed to Trudeau's policies. His actions have severely harmed the country, and recovery will take decades. It's crucial for him to step down, as even his own party is urging him to leave. The focus now should be on fixing the country and moving forward.

Some Canadians express skepticism online about investing in carbon management and ask why we don’t just plant more trees. This transcript explains what carbon management is, why we’re investing in this technology, and why planting trees alone won’t be enough to meet our goals. Carbon capture utilization and storage, or CCUS technologies, are safe and powerful tools to reduce harmful emissions from industrial processes like steel, cement, oil, and gas production, which are essential to our economy but often require high temperature and complex chemical reactions that produce CO2. CO2 is a greenhouse gas with a significant impact on climate change. Newer carbon dioxide removal technologies can even capture CO2 directly from the air, which is the only way to permanently address CO2 that has already been emitted. Once captured, carbon can be compressed and transported to use safely in things we’re already familiar with, like concrete. And now technology is helping us go even further, turning what could have once been pollution into cleaner fuels and chemicals. CO2 can also be stored deep underground in stable rock formations, including some of the same ones that once held oil and gas. In Canada, we have great natural geology for this, which keeps the carbon safely stored for the long term out of our air and out of our environment. While trees are a powerful natural climate solution, planting alone won’t be fast or large scale enough to handle all of Canada's emissions, especially in sectors that are tough to decarbonize, like cement or steel. For example, to match the 6,600,000 tons of CO2 that SaskPower's Boundary Dam Unit 3 has captured since 02/2014, we would have to plant between two hundred and twenty and four hundred and forty million trees and wait for them to grow over decades to reach the full carbon absorption. That’s why carbon management needs to be part of the climate solution. According to the International Energy Agency, reaching net zero emissions globally without carbon management is virtually impossible. That’s why countries around the world, Norway, Japan, The United Kingdom, and Australia, are all significantly investing in carbon management just like Canada. With continued investment, carbon management is helping to build stronger industries, attract global capital, and position Canada as a leader in low carbon technology. Investing in carbon management supports our climate goals and long term prosperity by reducing emissions while creating good jobs and supporting Canadian industries. It’s a win win. It’s a smart solution for a cleaner, stronger Canada. Remember, energy solutions equals Canada as an energy superpower.

Canada is facing a crime with its carbon emissions, accounting for only 1.5% of the world's total. Despite this, Justin Trudeau plans to impose a carbon tax on everything, including gas, food production, transportation, and heating. This has left Canadians financially strained, while countries like China emit significantly more carbon at 30.9%. Canadians must no longer remain silent and should repost this message to make their voices heard. It is important to note that the carbon tax has proven ineffective.

By 2035, Canada will mandate that citizens can only purchase electric vehicles due to a change in the Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) quietly put in place by the environmental minister. The mandate stipulates that all vehicles made in Canada must have zero emissions. A speaker argues that the government is overreaching, citing issues such as cold climates, the needs of rural Canadians, and power outages, such as one that occurred in Peterborough three weeks prior, as examples of why the mandate won't work. During the five day outage, electric vehicles were rendered useless. The speaker suggests that families should be able to choose to buy electric vehicles if they want, and the government's role should be to ensure the infrastructure is in place to support them.

Climate change poses a significant threat to national security and the military. The current administration dismisses its reality, despite clear evidence of its acceleration. If unaddressed, rising sea levels could submerge major military bases like Norfolk, Virginia, within our lifetimes. Climate events lead to instability, chaos, and conflict, increasing the demand for military disaster response. Historically, the Pentagon has recognized climate change as a national security threat, but this acknowledgment has waned. Progress has been made in transitioning to renewable energy, with two-thirds of energy at bases now sourced from renewables. The military can lead the charge toward net zero carbon emissions, as delaying action will only worsen the impact of climate change. The next president has the opportunity to enhance military capabilities through technological advancements that can benefit the entire country.

The old relationship with the United States, based on economic integration and security cooperation, is over. The United States' next steps are unclear, but Canada has agency and power to control its destiny. Canada can best deal with this crisis by building strength at home, requiring hard work and determination from governments, businesses, labor, and Canadians. This involves dramatically reducing reliance on the United States and pivoting trade relationships elsewhere. This shift will require achieving previously impossible goals at unprecedented speeds.

Canadians are feeling the impacts of the climate emergency with wildfires and extreme weather. The government spent $34 billion on the Trans Mountain pipeline instead of investing in real climate solutions. Big oil CEOs profit while Canadians struggle. We need a windfall tax on oil and gas profits, regulations to cap emissions, and investments in clean jobs and climate resilience. The current government delays climate action, while conservatives deny the crisis. We need to end fossil fuel subsidies and prioritize real climate solutions.

The Joe Rogan Experience

Joe Rogan Experience #1330 - Bernie Sanders
Guests: Bernie Sanders
reSee.it Podcast Summary
Joe Rogan and Bernie Sanders discuss the challenges of presidential debates, emphasizing that they often resemble reality TV rather than substantive discussions. Sanders criticizes the format, arguing that complex issues like healthcare cannot be adequately addressed in short sound bites. He suggests that other countries provide candidates with more time to explain their policies, which would lead to a more informed electorate. Sanders advocates for healthcare as a human right, pointing out that the U.S. is the only major country that does not guarantee it. He proposes expanding Medicare eligibility and including additional benefits like dental and vision care. He highlights the influence of pharmaceutical companies and their lobbying efforts, which hinder healthcare reform. The conversation shifts to wealth inequality, with Sanders noting that a small number of individuals hold a disproportionate amount of wealth. He argues that this concentration of wealth leads to a political system that prioritizes the interests of the wealthy over the needs of the working class. On gun control, Sanders calls for expanded background checks and a ban on assault weapons, acknowledging the need for a balanced approach that respects responsible gun ownership while addressing gun violence. He emphasizes the importance of mental health care and the need to destigmatize mental health issues. Regarding education, Sanders proposes making public colleges tuition-free and canceling student debt, funded by a tax on Wall Street transactions. He argues that investing in education and community support can help alleviate poverty and despair in distressed areas. Finally, Sanders addresses climate change, asserting that it poses a significant threat to national security. He advocates for a transition away from fossil fuels and investment in renewable energy, emphasizing the need for global cooperation to combat climate change effectively.
