One person said that white people put a curse on them and stole their culture. The conversation went to Japanese culture and immigration policies. Another protester said that basic health care rights like access to abortion are being taken away. I spoke with others who said that Trump is letting Elon Musk dissolve entire US departments that were mandated by congress. I was eventually asked to leave the area after things got a little heated. I was going to tell them that even though we disagree, we all have First Amendment rights and should find common ground to improve the future peacefully.

Why wasn't there more security? There were about 30 guards outside, but it felt staged. The mayor seemed to have some influence, and there was a lot of chaos. They had a loudspeaker directing people, telling them where to reinforce. It felt like something illegal was happening. It was surreal being there. I didn't see anyone get arrested or any violence against officers, which was surprising. One person was breaking a window, but in other areas, when barriers were breached, guards just stepped aside. It was reckless to shoot in that situation, especially with so many people around.

Imagine if I moved to Africa and protested against being deported back to the U.S. while waving an American flag. It would seem absurd, right? This is similar to what's happening in the U.S. where people protest with flags from their home countries instead of showing appreciation for America. If you love this country so much, why not express that by supporting the U.S. instead? Many patriots feel frustrated seeing this because it appears ungrateful. If you truly value living in America, you wouldn't wave a foreign flag that hasn't contributed to your life here.

I felt unsafe during the protests because people were angry and their words were violent. Despite the government shutdown, the protests have been peaceful. The participants prefer to be called picketers instead of protesters.

There were several pieces spread out at the forefront, and I saw one person crying, expressing a desire to go home to their kids. A police officer seemed overwhelmed as thousands of protesters approached, pleading to be let in without any intention to cause harm.

I'm really upset right now. While driving home in Edmonton, I encountered a Palestinian protest, and all I could hear was "Death to Canada." It infuriates me. If you hate our country so much, go back to your own and fight there. I'm a proud Canadian, and after what I just experienced, I have no sympathy for this protest.
