I want to share with the people of Rhode Island what this investigation looks like, where we are today, and where we anticipate it moving forward. Last night, there were dozens of Providence police officers working in the command post to develop leads in this difficult case, both because of the campus tragedy and the challenge of developing evidence. Our prosecutors—six in total—were there, and our victim services folks were at the hospital. This is what these investigations look like: sometimes you head in one direction, then you regroup and go in another. That has happened over the last 24 hours or so. Collectively, the team developed leads in multiple areas. One lead was chased to ground, leading to the detainment of a person of interest. Those words reflect that there was some degree of evidence pointing to this individual, but that evidence needed to be corroborated and confirmed. Over the last 24 hours, leading into very recently, that evidence now points in a different direction. This means that this person of interest needs to be and should be released. It is unfortunate that this person’s name was leaked to the public, and it’s hard to put that back in the bottle. We will proceed very carefully here, because there is too much at stake for the victims of this horrific crime and their families to take chances with respect to this investigation. Going forward, our team of prosecutors will be working with the Providence Police Department as the principal leads in this investigation. Our resources will be amplified by the state police, the FBI, the ATF, the DEA, the Marshal Service, and others as we develop leads and move toward justice in this case. This could happen very quickly, but it could also take some time.

Well, there's 33,000 pages that have been released. they've basically released everything except for the victim information, which, obviously, we don't release that. One thing to note that today when we're actually talking to some of the victims, one of the women stated that at 14 when Epstein started to victimize her, that she has no recollection of some of the stuff that was done to her. She's hoping to find that out so that she can actually bring to her therapist and continue the healing process in regards to the damage and the trauma that was caused to her. there's a lot of very wealthy bad people. It's actually scary to hear some of the stuff that was brought forward. the only way to collectively attack this is as a group and as a whole, meaning that Democrats and Republicans have to work work together and back up on more subpoenas because I think this is gonna be pretty hairy. Is there more information beyond these 33,000 pages? Well, there's gonna be names. The attorneys kept emphasizing we need to follow-up on the names. These girls are not just making this up. These are some of the wealthiest people probably in the world, and we'll start They told us not to because they don't want those people to start basically burning files. So I think this is going criminal investigation for sure. I know that some of the delay was due to redacting victim information, and so we'll see where it goes.

This was the first time an official publicly acknowledged videos of Epstein and his victims. Nine days prior, the attorney general had a similar conversation with a stranger in a restaurant, stating there are tens of thousands of videos, all with little kids. A reporter sent the AG's office the text of the recording, questioning why this detail was not disclosed to the public but was instead told to a random stranger. The attorney general used almost the exact same language as she did with the stranger. Questions are raised as to why the information was shared with a stranger before the American people, and why this information was held back in the first place. It is questioned whether a government apparatus is still working behind the scenes to protect.

The messages show they absolutely believed they were above the law, above morals, and immune to societal norms. They joked in these emails about pedophiles, about horrific sexual acts with young girls, and about creating spaces—entire islands even—where they could do anything they wanted and get away with it because of their wealth, power, and connections. This was a massive global sex trafficking ring with thousands of victims that we know of and thousands more that we probably don't. So when the DOJ says that there is nothing to investigate, we, the American people, must rise up. We must allow the courage and determination of the survivors who have spoken out at great risk to themselves to push us to never give up until every single one of these predators and pedophiles and predator protectors is brought to justice. It is the voices of the survivors ringing through in the darkness of all of this horror that has gotten us this far. And in speaking to so many of them myself, I know that this effort is not just for them. They're not doing this just for them. They're doing it for their girls, for their children, for other people who have been affected, to all the survivors of sexual assault everywhere across the world who are watching to see if we can get accountability right here in The United States Of America. Many rich and powerful people thought over the decades that they got away with this. They definitely did. You can see it in the emails. But as Lauren said to me the other day, the earth is shaking because every single one of them now is becoming known. And around the world, princes, ambassadors, even prime ministers are being brought down for their participation in this global sex trafficking ring.
