Officials under Israel’s far-right settler minister Bezalel Smotrich have just been given more powers over the occupied West Bank and its Palestinian population. Al Jazeera's @soraya_lennie explains. https://t.co/2FrQrOEO2l

Video Transcript AI Summary
Israeli settlers are now given more power in the West Bank as the military hands over control to a right-wing settler leader. This leader, Bezelos Smotrich, aims to annex the West Bank and remove Palestinians. Palestinians face difficulties in obtaining building permits and are harassed by settlers who steal their land. This decision could worsen the situation for Palestinians, as settlers gain more control over occupied territories. Smotrich's actions mark a significant change in the occupation's dynamics.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: We've all seen video of Israeli settlers harassing Palestinian farmers, landowners, children, Israeli settlers stealing Palestinian land. Well, it seems all that might have just become even easier for them to do. Why? Well, Israel's civil administration governs the occupied West Bank under the direction of the Israeli military, and the military has just handed some of its powers to civil servants who work under the right wing settler leader and government minister, Bezelos Smotrich. Yes. The same Smotrich who wants to annex the West Bank and ethnically cleanse it and Gaza of Palestinians. Basically, it gives him responsibility to administer certain laws pertaining to things like building and agriculture. As it stands, Palestinians are almost never granted building permits even to build houses on their own land, and Palestinian farmers are routinely harassed by settlers settlers who then go on to steal the land. All this is already done under the watch of the Israeli army and multiple settler security groups. And that's why this decision could have major repercussions. A radical settler leader is now in charge of administering laws about settlements Palestinian communities. Settlers have been lobbying for this for years. More power over occupied territories has been one of Smotrich's long time goals. One analyst says this is no longer creeping annexation. This is it. Smotrich has managed to change how parts of the occupation work. An unbearable situation for so many Palestinians may have just got a whole lot worse.

A leaked report reveals elements of Israel’s intelligence community knew in detail about Hamas’s plans to break through the Gaza barrier and take captives on October 7. So why didn’t they act? Al Jazeera's @soraya_lennie explains. https://t.co/3vGbCGbfVM

Unit 8200 had detailed knowledge of Hamas' attack 3 weeks in advance but ignored it. The leaked document outlined Hamas' plan to breach the security wall and take hostages, matching the actual events on October 7. Blame has been shifted among officials, including Netanyahu, who blamed intelligence heads for failing to detect the attack. An investigation is ongoing, but parts related to Unit 8200 have been suspended. The battle to assign responsibility for the attack continues. Speaker 0: What if I told you the IDS clandestine 8200 unit had knowledge of Hamas' October 7 attack 3 weeks before it happened. And I don't mean the type of warnings that we've already heard about that various Israeli officials brushed aside, like from Egypt or from the female border spotters watching Hamas prepare for the attack, or even Hamas posting this training video 1 month before showing exactly how it was going to carry out the attack. Now according to Israel state broadcaster, Khan, the young analyst at unit 8200 compiled a chillingly accurate detailed blueprint 3 weeks before October 7 and then ignored it. The document is entitled detailed end to end raid training, and it was based on months of surveillance. The leaked document spells out how Hamas' elite unit plan to use 4 companies to breach the security wall using a ground and air attack. The document's authors even knew where the fighters would be headed, military posts and nearby Israeli communities. And here's a striking detail from the report. It said Hamas planned to take a specific number of captives back to Gaza, between 202150 people. On October 7, Hamas took 251 people hostage. And there's more. The report alleges Israel's southern command not only knew about these plans, but had detailed information about the conditions hostages were to be kept in, how they should be moved, fed, searched, controlled, and under what conditions they could be executed. And now for the blame game. Just about every side in this has been pointing the finger. That's been the case since October 7. And if the report is correct, it could actually help prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has built his reputation on security and has been at pains to blame everyone but himself. He even cast blame on multiple officials, including the heads of military intelligence and internal security agency, Shin Bet, back in October. He wrote a tweet that was later deleted, saying they had repeatedly assured him that Hamas wasn't up to anything. So who failed? And did the political leaders know? Well, there is an official investigation into October 7, sort of. An ombudsman in Israel is on the case, but Israel's high court has just ordered him to suspend any parts of his inquiry that relate to the idea for Shingbet. The prime minister's son against that decision in an online post, calling for full transparency. And then came this new leaked report. The battle for who takes the fall for October 7 is not over.

@SandraGathmann On November 7, Al Jazeera digital investigation found no grounds to the Israeli forces' claim that there was a Hamas tunnel under Sheikh Hamad Hospital as the bombardment on Gaza continued ⤵️ https://t.co/4640OprGwk

Video Transcript AI Summary
The Israeli army has accused Hamas of using hospitals as cover for fighters and tunnels. They claim that a video shows the entrance to a tunnel near the Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Hospital, but Al Jazeera's digital investigations team found that it is actually a water reservoir. They cross-referenced features in the video with satellite images and spoke to an engineer who worked on the hospital's construction. The team concluded that the video only confirms the presence of a water tank, not a tunnel used by Hamas.

Speaker 0: Good evening. Time and again, the Israeli army has accused Hamas of using hospitals as convenient cover for its fighters and elaborate system of tunnels. Thus, it says making hospitals fair game for its bombing campaign in Gaza. The list of hospitals Israel says are complicit include Al Shifa Hospital, Al Quds hospital. And most recently, the Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Hospital For Rehabilitation and Prosthetics, also known as the Qatari hospital. On November 5th, the Israeli army published a video on X, formerly via Twitter. It claims to reveal the entrance to a tunnel used by Hamas fighters. Seen here in this Israeli drone footage, It shows something resembling a hatch or portal near the hospital's entrance. Enter Al Jazeera's digital investigations team, SANAD. It decided to take a closer look at the video behind this latest Israeli allegation. It started by identifying features surrounding this opening, and cross referencing those features with satellite images to determine its exact location. The team also uncovered footage filmed during the construction of the hospital published eight to years ago. One of the clips reveals the construction of an underground isolated and enclosed structure in the the exact location of the opening in question. The video makes plain that the construction Israel alleges to be a Hamas tunnel, took place while the hospital complex was being built. According to the images in this archival video, this structure is not only not connected to any underground tunnel system, but after further analysis, our digital investigations team found that this structure is nothing more than a water reservoir. To further verify its finding, The team tracked down one of the original engineers who worked on the construction of the Qatari hospital. By cross referencing his diagram with the images in the video released by the Israeli army. Our digital investigations team was able to clearly We identified a pressure equalization pipe commonly used for water and fuel tanks or reservoirs. Its conclusion, the only thing this video confirms is that there is a water tank on the property, not a tunnel used by Hamas fighters.

An Al Jazeera digital investigation found no grounds for the Israeli army's claim that the strike on the al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza was caused by a failed rocket launch. https://t.co/DQsrBXfwmL

Video Transcript AI Summary
On October 17, 2023, the Alakhli Arab Hospital in Gaza was bombed, resulting in numerous Palestinian casualties. Gaza officials blame an Israeli air strike, while the Israeli army denies responsibility, claiming it was a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Al Jazeera broadcasted live footage that allegedly supports the Israeli army's claims. However, an investigation by SANAD's digital investigations team analyzed multiple videos, including Al Jazeera's livestream, and established a timeline of events. The team identified four Israeli air strikes near the hospital and cross-referenced the footage with another video showing rocket launches from Gaza. The investigation concluded that the Israeli army's claim of a failed rocket launch causing the hospital strike had no basis.

Speaker 0: On the 17th October 2023, hundreds of Palestinians were killed when the Alakhli Arab Hospital in Gaza was bombed. Officials in Gaza blame the blast on an Israeli air strike. The Israeli army denies responsibility and claims the attack was due to a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. They say they used Al Jazeera footage to allegedly confirm these claims. Speaker 1: But you're asking me for for proof? You don't need to get for me. All you need to do is switch over to Al Jazeera, who broadcasted it live, and you can actually see. I got a screen caption. Just for you to see this is Al Jazeera from last Speaker 0: Our digital investigations team, SANAD, decided to investigate these claims and conducted an in-depth analysis of this Al Jazeera video, along with several other videos from multiple sources, and established a detailed second by second timeline of the events. By analyzing Al Jazeera's livestream starting at 18/45, The team was able to identify 4 Israeli air strikes on Gaza targeting the area near the hospital, starting at 185428, then 185503, then 185742, and then 185804. That's military time for just before 7 PM local. The team cross referenced this video with another captured by a camera situated south of Tel Aviv showing a wide view of the Gaza stripped. That video shows a series of rocket launches from Gaza. That video clearly shows how the Iron Dome intercepted these rockets. Going back to the Al Jazeera live feed at 18/59/35. We can see a single rocket launched from Gaza. This is the rocket in question. This rocket can also be seen on the Israeli video. 15 seconds later, Al Jazeera's live feed shows that The same rocket was intercepted at exactly 18/59/50. This interception has the same afterglow seen in previous interceptions. A closer look at the video captured by the Al Jazeera live feed shows the rocket being completely destroyed and broken apart in the sky. According to all feeds and videos analyzed. This rocket was intercepted, and was the last one launched from Gaza before the bombing of the hospital. 5 seconds after that interception, an explosion in Gaza can be seen, followed 2 seconds later by a much larger explosion. This is the strike that hit Al Aghly Arab Hospital. As a result, Al Jazeera Digital investigations team found no grounds to the Israeli army claim that the strike on the Alakhli Arab Hospital in Gaza was caused by a failed rocket launch.
