AOC announced that the FBI and NYPD disrupted a plot by a member of a pro-Israel terrorist organization to assassinate Nerdeen Kiswani, condemning violence and noting Kiswani’s safety and the suspect’s arrest. Ana Kasparian urged funding Israel’s weapons. AOC denied supporting such funding and accused ongoing falsehoods. A third user asked if AOC is Jewish.

@AOC - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Today, the FBI and NYPD disrupted a plot by a member of a pro-Israel terrorist organization to assassinate Nerdeen Kiswani. This is a reprehensible act of political violence. There is no place for it in our city nor our country. I am thankful Ms. Kiswani is safe and the assailant is under arrest.

@AnaKasparian - Ana Kasparian

@AOC You should vote to send Israel more money for weapons! 😉

@AOC - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

@AnaKasparian I never have. Feel free to continue lying publicly, though. Those checks don’t cash themselves and you aren’t talented enough to be relevant with the truth.

Charlie Kirk was a controversial figure who viewed the Civil Rights Act as a “mistake” and suggested that someone should bail out the assailant of Paul Pelosi. He made claims about Jewish control over various sectors, which reflected ignorance and a desire to disenfranchise many Americans. While we can condemn his assassination and the issue of political violence, we should not elevate his problematic beliefs or rhetoric, which contradict the notion of promoting unity.

@AOC - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

We should be clear about who Charlie Kirk was: a man who believed that the Civil Rights Act that granted Black Americans the right to vote was a “mistake,” who after the violent attack on Paul Pelosi claimed that “some amazing patriot out there” should bail out his assailant, and accused Jews of controlling “not just the colleges – it’s the nonprofits, it’s the movies, it’s Hollywood, it’s all of it.” His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans – far from “working tirelessly to promote unity” as asserted by the majority in this resolution.” We can condemn his horrific assassination and the scourge of political violence without uplifting these ideas.

.@RepAOC @AOC on House-passed resolution honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk: "Instead of uniting Congress in this tragedy with one of the many bipartisan options to condemn political violence and Kirk's murder, as we did with the late Melissa Hortman, instead the majority proceeded with a resolution that brings great pain to the millions of Americans who endured segregation, Jim Crow and the legacy of bigotry today."

Speaker 0 said the Republican House majority brought to the floor a resolution honoring, "honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk." He called Kirk's assassination "a horrific and vile attack and incident of political violence" and said condemning the depravity of Kirk's brutal murder is a straightforward matter to stabilize an increasingly unsafe political environment. He argued the resolution is partisan, not bipartisan. He described Kirk as "a man who believed that the Civil Rights Act that granted black Americans the right to vote was a mistake," who after Paul Pelosi's attack said "some amazing patriot" should bail out his brutal assailant, and who "accused Jews of controlling, not just the colleges, it's the nonprofits, it's the movies, it's Hollywood, it's all of it." Congress should unite to reject weaponization of this moment into an assault on free speech. President Trump and the FCC are now cynically threatening to shut down ABC and any outlets who give airtime to critics. ABC Corporation's responsibility to refuse this censorship. We pray for Kirk's family, especially his children and wife. Yield back.

Speaker 0: Today, the Republican, House majority brought to the floor a resolution honoring, quote, honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk's assassination was a horrific and vile attack and incident of a male of political violence. And condemning the depravity of Kirk's brutal murder is a straightforward matter, one that is especially important to help stabilize an increasingly unsafe and volatile political environment where everyday people feel more at risk. We can deeply disagree and come together as a country to denounce the horror of this killing. And it is not a license for the abuse of power and whitewashing of American history. Today's resolution only underscores the majority's recklessness by choosing to author this condemnation and honoring on a purely partisan basis instead of uniting Congress in this tragedy with one of the many bipartisan options to condemn political violence and Kirk's murder as we did with the late Melissa Hortman. Instead, the majority proceeded with a resolution that brings great pain to the millions of Americans who endured segregation, Jim Crow, and the legacy of bigotry today. We should be clear about who Charlie Kirk was, a man who believed that the Civil Rights Act that granted black Americans the right to vote was a mistake, who after the violent attack on Paul Pelosi claimed that, quote, some amazing patriot, unquote, should bail out his brutal assailant, and accused Jews of controlling, quote, not just the colleges, it's the nonprofits, it's the movies, it's Hollywood, it's all of it, unquote. His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated, and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans, far from the working, quote, working tirelessly to promote unity, unquote, asserted by the majority in this resolution. It is equally important that congress does unite to reject the government's attempt to weaponize this moment into an all out assault on free speech across the country, all in the name of Charlie Kirk. President Trump and the FCC are now cynically threatening to shut down ABC and any outlets who give airtime to the administration's political critics. This is a disgusting attack on the American people and the very first amendment rights that define us as a country. It is also the ABC Corporation's responsibility to refuse to embolden and participate in this corruption and escalation of censorship. We continue to pray for mister Kirk's family and loved ones in the wake of this terrible act. I am thinking especially of his children and his wife whose grief cannot be measured. And with that, I yield back to the gentleman. I bid the lady good day.

These baseless threats are meant to intimidate us into censoring ourselves first. They know they have nothing and can’t come after us all. Be brave. Keep speaking up. We must use our freedom of speech now more than ever to defend from their threats against it. Call their bluff.

Just to be clear, you are defending a Heil Hitler salute that was performed and repeated for emphasis and clarity. People can officially stop listening to you as any sort of reputable source of information now. You work for them. Thank you for making that crystal clear to all.

@ADL - ADL

This is a delicate moment. It’s a new day and yet so many are on edge. Our politics are inflamed, and social media only adds to the anxiety. It seems that @elonmusk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people are on edge. In this moment, all sides should give one another a bit of grace, perhaps even the benefit of the doubt, and take a breath. This is a new beginning. Let’s hope for healing and work toward unity in the months and years ahead.

Cutting off all communication to a population of 2.2 million is unacceptable. Journalists, medical professionals, humanitarian efforts, and innocents are all endangered. I do not know how such an act can be defended. The United States has historically denounced this practice.

Donald Trump is a white supremacist. People have been warning about this for a long time. They were ridiculed, called hyperbolic & radical - not bc they were wrong, but bc others couldn’t accept that our country elected a supremacist as President. This is fascism at our door.

Chris Wallace: "Are you willing, tonight, to condemn white supremacists and militia groups and to say that they need to stand down..." Trump: "Proud Boys, stand back and stand by! But I'll tell you what, somebody's got to do something about antifa and the left."

The vice president was criticized for not specifically condemning Antifa and left-wing extremist groups. When asked if he would condemn white supremacists and militia groups, he responded by saying he wants peace and is willing to do anything. However, he did not explicitly condemn them. The moderator pressed him to say it, but he instead asked for a name. Eventually, he told the white supremacists to "stand back and stand by," but emphasized that Antifa and the left are the real problem. He claimed that Antifa is an idea, not an organization, and referred to the FBI director's statement on the matter.
