Amy Siskind laments Bezos’s impact on The Washington Post, noting layoffs, lost voices, and diminished reporting (Kessler, DC desk insights, the Kennedy Center piece). She says the outlet’s decline harms civic discourse and democracy, labeling Bezos and Musk as villains. Mattvanswol replies, accusing her of hypocrisy for praising the paper’s breaking-news role earlier and calling her a fraud.

A note on the Washington Post, and how billionaire Jeff Bezos has decimated the newspaper, despite it being a mere rounding error to his $260 billion net worth. Former editor Marty Baron said todays's announcement of more layoffs, “ranks among the darkest days in the history of one of the world’s greatest news organizations.” I want to add as an observation how important WAPO was to my Weekly List project during Trump's first regime. They were my #1 source of breaking news of what was happening, but also reporting with great depth. All of that is gone. Some of their considerable talent has landed elsewhere, but many of the voices have simply been silenced. Glenn Kessler tracking Trump's lies. Inside coverage from the DC vantage point of the mood and morale of the city. Poof, gone. Even for the remaining content, it's a shadow of its former self. The story about Trump closing the Kennedy Center should have been a WAPO classic, with inside insights. Instead it read like a college grad one year out had written a form piece. They had almost no interesting color beyond the news itself. This is such a loss to our collective news cycle, and to our democracy. Jeff Bezos is a villain, just like Elon Musk. I hope history will judge them as they deserve. Sad day indeed.

@Amy_Siskind You literally said the Washington Post doesn't do journalism and that Bezos overpaid for it. NOW you are saying that it was important and your #1 source of breaking news. You are a fraud. A massive, lying, fraud. https://t.co/q0dY1Kg7K8
