In El Salvador today, Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke about his frustrations with the USAID agency after it has recently been criticized by both President Trump and DOGE leader Elon Musk. Rubio also talked about his visit to Panama yesterday. "Well look, my frustration with USAID goes back to my time in Congress. It's a completely unresponsive agency. "It's supposed to respond to policy directives of the State Department and it refuses to do so... "I said very clearly during my confirmation hearing that every dollar we spend and every program we fund, that program will be aligned with the national interest of the United States. "USAID has a history of sort of ignoring that and deciding that they're somehow a global charity separate from the national interest. "These are taxpayer dollars. And so I'm very troubled by these reports that they've been unwilling to cooperate with people who are asking simple questions...that sort of level of insubordination makes it impossible to conduct a sort of mature and serious review that I think foreign aid writ large should have... "I'm the acting director of USAID." .

Just saw a new ad here in Central PA from a left-wing PAC named Pennsylvania Values. The spot tells "MAGA patriots" that President Trump doesn't want them to vote by mail (which is false). Why is this ad being run? Because the left knows that if the GOP is successful at increasing GOP Mail In Voting in PA, which the GOP is working to achieve, then it will be much harder for left-leaning candidates to win contests in the state. This is the first blatantly deceptive political commercial I've seen this election cycle. The makers of the ad are hoping that Trump supporters believe the ad was produced by fellow Trump backers, when the truth is that it was created by opponents of the 45th president. One frame of the ad has a clip of Trump in the background with this text in the foreground: "Stand strong with President Trump against mail in voting."

THOUGHTS on President Trump's speech in West Palm Beach, Florida: (7:57pm to 9:40pm ET on Wed 10/11/23) * The speech was 103 minutes long, which is the longest campaign speech of his I can recall. * Trump wore a dark blue suit, white shirt, red tie. * There was a full house of 3500 people in attendance at the Club 47 venue in West Palm Beach. * Club 47 is, I believe, made up of dedicated and noteworthy Trump supporters from around the nation. As you might expect, the crowd was very fired up before and during the speech. Trump's speech was delayed about an hour as he met with supporters backstage. Among tonight's audience were Matt Gaetz, Roseanne Barr, Laura Loomer, Sara Carter, DC Draino, Terrence Williams and Bruce LeVelle. * There were two main purposes for tonight's speech. First, discuss the terrible events of the past week in Israel and contextualize them in a contrast between Trump's approach to foreign policy and Biden's. Second, relax and entertain a group of some of Trump's biggest and most influential backers. Kind of like fan service. I think that's why the speech was as long as it was. * Trump said Biden's poor and weak approach to foreign policy had created chaos, bloodshed and strengthened American enemies around the world. His own methods, he stated, had brought peace, stability and diminished foes around the globe. * He spent a significant amount of time, as expected, on his accomplishments in the Middle East. Iran struggled, Jerusalem embassy, Abraham Accords, ISIS defeated, Al-Bagdadi and Solemani dispatched. * He told a story he said he had never shared previously. The USA had worked with Israel in the planning for the Solemani operation. Then, the night before it was to take place Israel said they were no longer going to participate. Trump consulted with his military experts about what to do. Should we still carry out the mission? Trump decided that they should, and they did. And then after it was done successfully, Trump said, Netanyahu tried to take credit for it despite not following through. * Trump said he was disappointed with Netanyahu over the Solemani matter, and he said it's imperative that Israel and America raise their games now that Israel's enemies are on the attack. * He said Biden had tossed Israel to the waiting jihadists. * He explained how Biden had failed with Iran. * He said Biden must now freeze the $6B transfer to Iran and Biden must stop any payments to corrupt Palestinian entities who would pass them along to terrorists. Trump recounted how he had, at one point, stopped giving funding to USA-disparaging Palestinian groups. * Trump said it is now imperative to watch the southern border so as to prevent a terrorist attack in America. He added he will reinstate his travel ban to help safeguard the USA. * He said that when he returns to office he will permanently destroy Hamas and he will stand with the great nation of Israel 100%. * He said he will shut off Iran's oil and turn on America's oil. * Trump said he knew General Mark Milley was an idiot when Milley suggested leaving behind equipment in Afghanistan. * He said that China, Russia, North Korea and Iran were the main global threats at this time. * He said DeSantis should drop out of the race and GOP money should now go towards defeating Biden. + OVERALL -- Extremely thorough and detailed speech with many riffs that achieved what it set out to achieve and did it with focus, new information (Solemani story) and humor. The remarks were forceful and had something for everyone.
