I believe our focus is wrong: lowering cholesterol with statins may not prevent heart disease and could worsen brain function in Alzheimer's; stopping statins can improve cognition, reintroducing them can worsen it. The fix is metabolic health, not pills. Diet and lifestyle changes are crucial for heart disease and dementia, starting with dietary changes. I’ve seen miraculous results when fueling the body with a genetically-congruent diet, plus the referenced research.

If you're concerned about Alzheimer's dementia, and taking cholesterol medication, I'm going to highly encourage you to read the below 😳 THREAD

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Things that make you go hmmm 🤔 FYI: statins = cholesterol meds Remove statins = brain function improves with Alzheimer's dementia Add statins back = brain function decreases with those same Alzheimer's patients

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

"Maybe" it's because we are barking up the wrong tree with both heart disease and dementia (we are). Cholesterol is not what causes heart disease. Arbitrarily lowering this "boogey man" creates a whole host of other issues.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I'm not going to re-hash it here because I've already written about it. If you want to read more about it, click on the below thread

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

High cholesterol doesn't cause heart disease. And there is a good chance you can get off your statins (cholesterol medication). Let me explain why & how. THREAD

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

As far as dementia and Alzheimer's goes, we are also trying to address the wrong issues with our traditional medical approaches. It's not going to work. It didn't work with my grandmother. And it's why dementia & Alzheimer's rates continue to rise.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Again, I'm not going to re-hash dementia/Alzheimer's solutions here. I've written about this exact subject in depth. You can read about it here

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The Mayo Clinic is calling Alzheimer's Type 3 Diabetes I bet you know someone who is suffering from it. The current treatments are not lowering the rates of Alzheimer's. In fact, rates of the disease continue to rise every year. There’s a reason…. THREAD

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you want to take care of heart disease or dementia/Alzheimer's, you will need to improve your metabolic function. This is not going to come in the form of a pill. It will require you to make lifestyle changes.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

One of the biggest areas of your life for metabolic improvement, is how you fuel your body, brain & heart. It's why I write about food & fluids so much. You have to start there as a foundation & build upon it.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I know both my patients & followers here are often confused when it comes to diet and their health. They hear so much conflicting information. It's understandable why they are confused.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Many, frankly, teach theory and regurgitate what they've been taught in school. They have no practical application in the real world, with actual positive results. I had to un-learn a lot of what I was taught. It didn't work for me or my patients.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I had to get myself healthy. I then started applying it with patients. The results I now see in the clinic are "miraculous" when we start fueling or bodies with a genetically-congruent diet.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you have a family history of heart disease, dementia, Alzheimer's....or maybe you already have signs and symptoms of metabolic dysfunction •High Triglycerides •High A1c •Low HDL •Low Energy •Brain Fog •Carrying Extra Weight

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you fall into any of these categories, I'm going to highly encourage you to begin making lifestyle changes. Not only will you feel better about yourself, but your quality of life will greatly improve. I can promise you that! And, you will live longer.. another bonus 😉

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Start with dietary changes (this will have the largest impact) and then go from there to make other changes. It's well worth it! BTW, here's the link to the research paper at the top https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22921881/

I’m frustrated with weight, health, and a system that masks symptoms. I sought root causes, unlearned what I was taught, and got better. I began helping patients, and their outcomes surprised me—weight fell, health improved. Platform limits and new formats pushed me to share on X, then start a free newsletter. Readers shared how XYZ helped them. My mission is natural, science-based metabolic health, via this account, the newsletter, and a future project.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This account exists for those who are frustrated with their weight & health. They know our healthcare system is broken & focuses on masking symptoms. They want a different approach. Not just another pill or shot. They want to get to the root cause. This account is a birth... https://t.co/PbjZZkSq0Q

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

...of my frustration with people not knowing what I now know. What I was taught as a doctor frankly didn't work many times. When I had my own health issues that didn't respond to traditional care, I went on a search. I had to unlearn a lot of what I had been taught I ended...

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

... up getting myself better. I then started applying what I learned, with my own patients. And guess what? They too had some pretty miraculous turnarounds! I kept applying it to more and more people. The weight would come off like clockwork & people would get healthy.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I knew more people out there needed to know this information, so I started sharing it on another platform. But then that platform greatly reduced the ability for people to see the information.... cough, cough....Facebook 😉 So, I stopped sharing for a while

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Then Twitter / X was bought by Elon and he said that he would not limit speech and the sharing of ideas. I thought, "Maybe I should share on Twitter / X instead." So, I looked up how to open an account and how to post on the platform. I had no clue. 🤷♂️

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

For the first ~2-3 months I literally had no idea what a thread was 😆 Anyway, I started posting. People seemed to like the info. So, I kept posting. More people liked it and began following and sharing the information.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Then people started sending me DM's of how helpful XYZ article was. I knew it was helping more and more people all around the world. So, I kept sharing.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

But I knew I needed to elaborate on some topics more than I could on an X thread. So, I started my free newsletter. drbphealth.com/newsletter

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

People would then email me and tell me how they started implementing XYZ that I wrote about in my newsletter, and how it helped them so much. The support and kind words I've had from individuals on this account & responding to my newsletter has been fulfilling.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Ultimately, I desire to help more people improve their metabolic health through natural, science-based solutions. And I look forward to doing more of that via this account, my newsletter & an upcoming project 😉 I appreciate your trust and don't take that lightly. Have a wonderful day!

reSee.it AI Summary
I’ve found that weight loss isn’t about calories alone. Hormones drive it far more, and I’ve learned to optimize them naturally through epigenetics. Environment shapes genetic expression: what you eat, move, think, sleep, relate to, stress, light, toxins, and even how you breathe. A genetically congruent diet is the foundation; only then do I add movement. Some patients lose ~22 lbs in 6 weeks without exercising. Tomorrow: common exercise mistakes.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I regularly have conversations with patients who are exercising to lose weight. Often when they first come to see me, they have been exercising quite extensively to lose weight. However, the scale hasn’t moved. The reason is the same for 99.9% of them. THREAD https://t.co/WdYaeIyo7g

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The classic “eat less calories, burn more calories” paradigm of weight loss is frankly wrong. Or maybe I should say, only a slight truth. Caloric deficit is not the primary driver of weight loss. Practically every patient has attempted this approach in one form or another, before coming to me.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

What primarily drives weight loss is hormones. For years I thought it was all about calories. But I was wrong. Hormones are much larger drivers & I frankly ignored them.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Hormones like: •Insulin •T3 •T4 •Leptin •Ghrelin •ANP •Incretin •Estrogen •Progesterone •Testosterone •Cortisol •GLP-1 •TSH •HGH •Adiponectin •And I could go on and on

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

But listing all these out is not the point. The point is that when I figured out how to optimize these hormones naturally, transformations in weight started happening for my patients.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

How was I able to do this? By using the science of epigenetics. Epigenetics is a field of science that studies how our environment influences the expression of our genetics.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Healthy environment = healthy genetic expression = healthy hormone production = weight loss The opposite is true too: Bad environment = poor genetic expression = unhealthy hormone production = weight gain and other disease processes

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

So, what is your "environment"? It's more than just pollution. Way more. The 10 environmental influences below have a significant impact on your body's genetic expression...both good and bad.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Your environment is: •What You Eat •How You Move •What You Think •How You Sleep •Your Relationships •Your Spiritual Life •Your Stress Levels •Your Light Exposure •Your Toxin Exposure •How You Breathe

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

With patients, I've found over the years the biggest epigenetic influence is: •How they fuel their bodies with food and drink

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

As I've told patients for years: "You can't out-exercise a crappy diet. You can't out-supplement a crappy diet. You can't out-medicate a crappy diet. The diet is the foundation to build your health on."

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

So, if individuals eat a genetically congruent diet (first and foremost) and then begin incorporating other genetically-congruent lifestyle factors, some amazing things begin to happen. Not only significant weight loss...

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

But the body has an amazing ability to heal from symptoms that people often had been suffering with for years, before coming to me. Why?

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Because they body is a self-healing organism and has an amazing ability to heal if you give it the right (genetically congruent) environment… and IF you give it that environment for long enough. Once they began getting rid of signs and symptoms they had been suffering with for years, their quality of life started to improve substantially.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This all started after I had to unlearn a lot of what I had been taught. Frankly, it started with my own health issues that weren’t being solved with traditional treatments. Once I helped myself, I then started applying with patients what I had to unlearn.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

That's when the transformations started happening, & they were almost miraculous in some cases! If you’re looking to lose weight & feel stuck, I will encourage you to look at how you're fueling your body first and foremost. This is where the issue lies often.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

You will need to focus on foods that are both: •Anti-inflammatory •Low glycemic

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When I guide patients through the process in my office, I tell them not to exercise at first. It’s often too taxing on their already taxed body. By doing this, my patients lose an average of 22.4 lbs. (10.1 kg) in the first 6 weeks. Again, without exercising.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Once you have dialed in your food, and have your hormones and cells functioning better, then I would suggest moving on to the next step. That step would be how you move. Also, known as exercise. But I’ve found most people exercise wrong for weight loss & long-term health.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Tomorrow in my free newsletter, I’m going to cover the most common mistakes so many of my patients make when they exercise. I will then cover what I instruct them to do to get results & also not hurt themselves and cause pain. Join us here, for free: drbphealth.com/newsletter

I share William's story: he wanted to lose weight for his grandson, to care longer and be around. I built a plan, and in months he shed weight while his energy and blood work improved. I’ve learned a big WHY makes the HOW easy; vanity goals rarely last. I ask clients their WHY, and if it’s only to impress others, I decline. If you seek lasting change, find your true internal WHY.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

William's story is a touching one. He wanted to lose weight for someone else, not himself. When he came to me, he told me that he had a grandson who had a disability. He loved his grandson dearly. He told me he wanted to lose weight so he... https://t.co/nsOmJULlMc

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

....could not only help care for his grandson but be around on this earth longer to spend more time with his beloved grandson. After hearing this, I was just as motivated as William to help him reach his goals!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I put a plan together for him, and in just a few months' time, a significant amount of weight came off easily. Not only did his weight improve, but so did his energy and blood work.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I've observed something over the years with patients like William. When there is a big enough WHY, the HOW and WHAT come easy. His grandson was a huge "why".

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When patients simply want to improve their weight for vanity reasons only, their lifestyle changes rarely last long. They will typically stick to the plan 4-8 weeks, and then "life will happen" and they fall back into their old habits that got them to where they were when I first met them.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I've seen this happen so often that I now ask patients about why they are wanting to work with me. If it is only for vanity reasons, I know that it will be a waste of their time & money. And I decide not to work with them.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you've gone on-and-off "diets" many times over the years, and never really stuck to anything, I'm going to encourage you to dig deeper. Find out WHY you truly want to lose weight. If it is just to impress others, it's probably not going to last.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

External validation & motivation frankly never does work. However, when you truly figure out why YOU want to do it for your self & what internal drivers truly inspire you.... that's when massive change will take place long term. So, think about your true WHY.

I explain that Type 2 diabetes damages small blood vessels, leading to blindness, amputations, and kidney failure. High sugar (180+) converts to sorbitol; since kidneys, nerves, and eyes lack sorbitol dehydrogenase, damage accumulates there. Lowering blood sugar is key, not just avoiding sweets but also bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, pastries, and other carbs. I check my blood sugar and A1c, recognize prediabetes as a start, and commit to lasting healthy changes.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Have you ever wondered why Type 2 Diabetes is the #1 cause of the following in America? •Blindness •Amputations •Kidney Failure Most never think they will end up here, but they do & it's simple to explain why. THREAD https://t.co/aRoyrLQSyT

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

All 3 of these conditions are ultimately due to microvascular complications. Meaning the small blood vessels in these tissues get damaged & can't supply the tissues blood. How does this happen? Glad you asked 😉

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

A blood sugar of 180 or higher is a poisonous level that is not compatible with normal cellular function. However, our bodies are pretty good a mitigating damage. So, in order to avoid damage from the sugar toxicity, the body converts excess blood sugar to sorbitol.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

But sorbitol is pretty toxic too, so this is not great for your body. However, you have an enzyme that breaks down sorbitol into fructose. This enzyme is called sorbitol dehydrogenase.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

While excess fructose is not great, at least it's not causing immediate damage. So, the crisis is adverted... except for in the kidneys, your nerves and eyes. These tissues don't have sorbitol dehydrogenase.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

So that excess sugar that gets converted to sorbitol, it just wreaks havoc on these 3 tissues. Done every now and then, the tissues can regenerate and repair. Done often enough (Type 2 Diabetics) and they begin to damage these tissues day after day.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Slowly, the damage affects you ability to feel in your nerves. This leads to neuropathy. Which eventually leads to lack of proper blood flow to the tissues of the feet (more common) and hands. Which leads to dead tissues forming (gangrene) & eventual amputation.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

In the eyes, this damage leads to you having decreased vision. Slowly overtime it worsens, until you eventually go blind.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

And in the kidneys the damage begins to affect how you pee. As the damage continues, you begin to have significant enough damage to your kidneys ability to filter, that you must go on dialysis. And eventually this continued damage leads to complete kidney failure.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

So, the key to avoid damage to these 3 tissues is to reduce the amount of blood sugar your body has. But increased blood sugar is not only due to consuming sugar. It's also due to consuming items that quickly get converted to sugar, like: •Bread •Pasta •Potatoes •Rice •Pastries •Grain-Based Products •Ground Corn-Based Products •Chips

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you check your blood sugars regularly or wear a CGM, you will see a direct jump in your blood sugar levels when you consume them. You can not only check your blood sugar levels to monitor your levels, but you can check your A1c to get an idea of where you stand.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Your A1c is a 90-120 day average of your blood sugar levels. You can check this chart below to see what your average blood sugar is https://t.co/goCWSop8OZ

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

And if you are pre-diabetic and think you are safe, I would challenge you in that thinking. Pre-diabetics are where all Type 2 diabetics start.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Think of a 5.7 A1c and above as more of a continuum in the severity of diabetes...kinda like pregnancy. A female is either pregnant, or she is not. You either have insulin resistance and a form of diabetes, or you don't.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

No matter where you are on the "spectrum", I'd encourage you to start taking steps to make changes in how you fuel your body. Beyond the A1c and diabetes, your increased quality of life (now & in the future) are worth making the changes.... 100's and 100's have told me this exact statement.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

They not only improved their lives, but you can too! Remember: The body has an amazing ability to heal, if you give it the right environment...and if you give it that environment long enough. Start making changes today. I promise you, it's worth it.

I see too many with hypothyroidism rely on meds and miss root causes. I focus on the top three I see: fluoride exposure, deficient iodine, and gut dysfunction. Fluoride can hinder thyroid function; iodine should come from real foods, not supplements. A healthy gut, free of refined sugars, seed oils, and processed grains, supports better absorption and metabolism. Amber’s story shows the changes possible with this approach.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Too many with hypothyroidism resort to only taking: •Synthroid •Armour Thyroid •Levoxyl •Tirosint •Levothyroxine They don’t address the underlying root causes of their low functioning thyroid. THREAD

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Typically, patients will go to their doctor and have their TSH, T4 Total, T4 free, or T3 tested. Some combination will be low and out of range. They are then given a prescription and told to take it. However, 1 important question is never asked.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

What is causing the low functioning thyroid? If we can address the root causes, the body will start functioning like it should. It has an amazing ability to do so, when given the right environment.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Let me cover the top 3 root causes I see that give patients a low functioning thyroid. •Fluoride •Deficient Iodine •Gut Dysfunction I’ll cover each below.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

FLUORIDE This seems to be the most controversial because so many have heard it is good for them & strengthens teeth. More and more research is being produced that this is not the case. And in fact, it is creating more health issues.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

In short, fluoride blocks the proper function of the thyroid and can actually be toxic. Prior to fluoride being added to water supplies, hyperthyroidism (too fast of a thyroid) was actually treated with fluoride to slow the thyroid down!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Without re-hashing all the details, Dr. Izabella Wentz does a great job going into the details in this article on how fluoride affects the thyroid: https://thyroidpharmacist.com/articles/fluoride-and-your-thyroid/

Fluoride And Your Thyroid - Dr. Izabella Wentz Could fluoride be affecting your thyroid? Studies show Americans are exposed to high levels of fluoride - learn how to protect your thyroid health! thyroidpharmacist.com

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

DEFICIENT IODINE Sufficient levels of iodine are crucial for the thyroid to function properly. The major thyroid hormones have iodine molecules as some of their key components.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

T4 has four iodine molecules attached to tyrosine (hence the “4”) T3 and T3 Reverse both have 3 iodine molecules attached to tyrosine (hence the “3”) If you want a visual, go here: https://vivo.colostate.edu/hbooks/pathphys/endocrine/thyroid/chem.html

Chemistry of Thyroid Hormones vivo.colostate.edu

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

While there are certain supplements I encourage patients to take, iodine is not one of them. I think there is more potential for error/harm with iodine. That’s why I recommend getting iodine from whole, real food sources.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

8 Iodine Rich Food Sources: 1. Shrimp 2. Cod 3. Seaweed 4. Pink Himalayan or Sea Salt 5. Tuna 6. Egg Yolks 7. Plums 8. Lima Beans

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

GUT DYSFUNCTION I write a lot about this because it effects so many health conditions and so many patients. If your gut is not working correctly, you can’t breakdown foods properly or absorb nutrients optimally.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

And unfortunately, what many consume actually perpetuates the 2 issues I see the most with gut dysfunction: •An Inflamed Gut •An Altered Gut Microbiome

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

For food, you want to focus on consuming whole, real food 95%+ of the time. You want to focus on eating: •Meat •Seafood •Vegetables •Fruits •Nuts/Seeds •Healthy Fats

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The 3 biggest contributors to gut dysfunction are: •Refined Sugars •Seed Oils •Processed Grains Eliminate or greatly limit these.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

One of my favorite hypothyroid patients I helped guide was Amber. I love her story! She made this transformation: •After 3 children •Battling hypothyroidism •Finding out she was gluten intolerant https://t.co/h1aqMfa20H

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Amber wanted a holistic approach to weight loss. She was excited that I didn't have her do crash diets, protein shakes or pre-packaged meals. Instead, we used whole, real foods and helped rebuild her metabolism.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I helped her focus on how her body was created and what worked best to optimize her metabolism in regard to food and exercise. That's when the weight started melting off.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

In addition to significant fat loss, she had these much-needed benefits: •Mind Became Much Clearer •Energy Increased Significantly

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This all began to happen when she started receiving proper fuel and nutrition to functionally improve her gut health & metabolism. Again, she addressed the root causes of the issue that ultimately led to her thyroid not functioning correctly.. This is key if you truly want to get well.

Many of my middle-aged patients come to me feeling drained, relying on coffee and energy drinks as temporary fixes. The real issue lies within their cells and mitochondria, which should be producing energy effectively. I shared Sharon's story, a patient who had no energy and struggled with weight. By changing her nutrition and focusing on cellular function, she saw significant improvements without traditional exercise. I emphasize avoiding refined sugars, seed oils, and processed grains. For those needing guidance, I offer tips and a newsletter to help improve energy and health. Taking action is essential for change.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

So many of my middle-aged patients have “no energy” when they first come in. They prop up their low energy with: •Coffee •Energy Drinks •Mid-Day Naps There are deeper root issues at hand. Until they’re addressed, the above are only crutches for their low energy. THREAD

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Our bodies have an estimated 30 trillion cells. That’s a lot! And each one of those cells can & should produce sufficient energy.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Within each cell, there are mitochondria. Think of these like engines for your cells. Some cells have 1-2 mitochondria. And some specific cells in your brain have over 1 million mitochondria!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

All of those mitochondria together drive the energy of your cells, and subsequently your body. And if they are not working well, a person will feel low or no energy. They often have trouble losing weight as well.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When Sharon came to me, she was one of those people. •She had absolutely NO energy 👎 •She could not get the weight off •Her self-confidence was down

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

After speaking with her, I thought I could help her. We needed to change the fuel she was feeding her cells, so they could start working properly. She would then get her energy back & her body would be able to lose the weight that she had been trying to ditch.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I put together a plan for her. I told her not to exercise. Yes, you read that correctly 😉

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The plan was designed to maximize her cellular function & produce better hormones. She followed it and the weight started falling off. This happens regularly to so many of my middle-aged female patients. It's not simply cutting calories and working out...

For over a decade, I've maintained a morning routine to enhance my metabolic function, especially while traveling. I've noticed that many patients set themselves up for metabolic dysfunction through poor morning habits, particularly in their food and drink choices. High glycemic foods and sugary beverages lead to blood sugar spikes and crashes, perpetuating unhealthy cravings. To combat this, I adopted intermittent fasting and discovered bulletproof coffee, which keeps me in a fasted state while providing healthy fats. I now enjoy this modified recipe daily and will share it in my upcoming newsletter.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

For over 10 years now, I’ve had a morning routine to boost my metabolic function. A “metabolic hack” so to speak. When I travel, I am known to do this too. THREAD https://t.co/lYnRrgboVE

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

As I’ve worked with patients over the last 15+ years nutritionally, I’ve seen a theme. So many of them really set themselves up for metabolic dysfunction by their morning habits. Particularly with what they eat & drink.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If we look at the term “breakfast” it literally means “to break the fast” after you awake. When you break a fast, you can hormonally take your body down a negative metabolic path, or a beneficial metabolic path.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This decision sets you up for what your energy is going to be like for the day. It also determines how your brain will function: •Sharp & Engaged vs. •Brain Fog & Difficulty Focusing

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Too many people eat high glycemic foods like the below for breakfast: •Cereal •Donuts •Bananas •Toast •Croissants •Bagels •And More

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Frankly, these above listed are not going to help you metabolically. They spike up your blood sugar. Which spikes up your insulin.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

And about 1 ½ to 2 hours later, you are getting a blood sugar crash and feel tired or are craving something sweet, a bread/pasta item, or something salty and crunchy. And the cycle repeats itself because many will give in to the biological cravings.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Don’t kill the messenger if you like these foods. 😉 This doesn’t mean that I never have these foods. But if you want to improve your metabolic function, and subsequently your overall health, you’re going to need to change how you fuel your body and consume these sparingly.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The other issue I regularly see that ruins patients’ metabolic function, is what they drink in the morning. Commonly, I see people consume: •Juices •Smoothies •Energy Drinks •Sweetened or Flavored Coffees

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

These also ruin your metabolism by creating the blood sugar & insulin hormonal rollercoaster that I described above. You might say, “But wait, I use a sugar free version, so I am doing good.” Well, you might have been deceived by marketing 😉

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Most every sugar free version uses an artificial sweetener. The two most used artificial sweeteners are: •Sucralose (Splenda) •Acesulfame potassium (Ace K) These both spike insulin and lead you down the same/similar metabolic rollercoaster. Again, this is not going to help you get metabolically healthy.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Learning and knowing this, I needed to put a habit in place that would not create this hormonal rollercoaster problem. A little over a decade ago, I learned the powerful benefits of intermittent fasting. I saw the benefits also dramatically help my patients improve their health with many different symptoms & conditions.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Here are the top 3 benefits of intermittent fasting: •Decrease Inflammation •Improve Insulin Sensitivity •Improve Regeneration & Repair in the Body

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

While I knew these benefits (and others) were great, I personally didn’t see myself skipping breakfast the rest of my life or drinking plain black coffee. So, I went on a search for a solution.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I wanted to learn how I could still have something of substance at breakfast, keep in a fasted state, and not have to only drink water or black coffee. That’s when I came across a guy by the name of Dave Asprey, about 12 years ago.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

He talked about this crazy idea of what he called “bulletproof coffee”. He found out that he was quite allergic to mycotoxins (mold toxins) from having mycotoxin poisoning. He had lived in 2 different places that were full of mold, from leaking water earlier in his life.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Sometimes he would drink coffee and feel a big energy boost. And other times, it would drain him and “turn off” his brain.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

He figured out that it was the mycotoxins on the coffee beans that were the issue. So, he developed these “bulletproof” coffee beans that had no mycotoxins (mold toxins).

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

He then took these beans, ground them & brewed his coffee. He subsequently added in MCT oil (a derivative of coconut oil) and grass-fed butter to his coffee. He then blended them all together in a blender, and it looked like a latte.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I’ll be honest, when I first heard of this, I was certainly skeptical. Additionally, I thought “Who the hell adds butter to coffee!?”

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I personally wasn’t much of a coffee drinker. I never liked the taste (I think this is because I always had poorly grown, roasted & brewed coffee prior to that time). But I did a little research and could understand and see the metabolic benefits he was purporting. So, I decided to give it a try.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The first time I made it, I thought, “Surprisingly, this is the first time I’ve actually liked drinking a cup of coffee!” I continued to do it. And several days lead to several weeks. Which lead to many months, and now 10+ years of drinking my “bulletproof-style” coffee nearly every morning.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

It keeps me in a fasted state, and negligibly affects my fasting blood sugar levels. It also provides more healthy fats for my brain & body. For some, it keeps the "coffee buzz" & energy boost a little longer.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Lastly, I really like the taste! 😋 Plus, I pretty much never get hungry in the mornings. I regularly go until 1:00 pm before I eat my first meal.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I’ve even been buried in work and have gone until 3:30 pm or 4:00 pm before I ever would have my stomach start to “growl” and give me hunger signals. Prior to incorporating this habit, that would have never happened!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Over the years I have modified the way I make the coffee from Dave’s original recipe. That’s why I now say I consume a “bulletproof-style” coffee.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Tomorrow in my free newsletter, I’m going to explain the recipe I now use & share with patients. I’m will also cover an alternative to coffee, for people like my wife who don’t like coffee, but want the benefits. Join us here, for free: drbphealth.com/newsletter

When we lose our health, it becomes our only focus, limiting our freedom to enjoy life. A healthy body opens up numerous options and freedoms, such as having energy, sleeping well, moving without pain, and avoiding medications and chronic diseases. It allows us to create memories with loved ones, travel, and enjoy life fully. I encourage everyone to make lifestyle changes now, rather than waiting for a crisis. The benefits of a healthy body are worth the effort. Let's start this journey together!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When we are not healthy, it feels like we are restricted. That we can’t fully enjoy life and do the things we want. Ultimately, a lack of freedom.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The opposite is true. When we have our health, we have many more options and freedoms. It got me thinking about many of the freedoms of having a healthy body brings to a person’s life.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

A healthy mind, body and spirit allow for the following 21 freedoms (in no particular order): 1) Have energy and not feel tired 2) Be able to sleep well… Without being hooked up to a machine 3)The ability to move freely without pain 4)Not take medications

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

5) Not have side effects from those medications 6) Avoid chronic diseases 7) Avoid surgeries 8) Be able to move and exercise 9) Be able to garden 10) Be able to play with kids/grandkids 11) See your kids and grandkids grow up 12) See your kids and grandkids get married

Autoimmune diseases have surged in recent decades, affecting many people and imposing significant healthcare costs. A recent study revealed that supplementing with Vitamin D and Omega-3s can reduce the incidence of these diseases by 30%. The rise in autoimmune conditions may be linked to deficiencies in these nutrients, exacerbated by modern lifestyles. Vitamin D is crucial for regulating inflammation and immune responses, particularly through regulatory T cells. Addressing these deficiencies could lead to improved health outcomes and lower healthcare expenses.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Autoimmune diseases have skyrocketed in the last 2 decades. A recent study showed how to naturally reduce these by 30%! Chances are you know someone suffering with one of the following 9 conditions: 1) Rheumatoid Arthritis 2) Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis 3) Psoriasis THREAD

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

4) Multiple Sclerosis 5) Vitiligo 6) Lupus 7) Celiac Disease 8) Type 1 Diabetes 9) Polymyalgia Rheumatica 10) And More! These diseases not only decrease the quality of life for the individual...

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

... but they also put a financial burden on the person due to the healthcare of managing the disease. And if you have 1 autoimmune disease, there is about a 25% chance you will have a 2nd autoimmune disease. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3150011/

Multiple autoimmune syndrome Keywords: multiple autoimmune syndrome, classification, pathogenesis pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

But why such an increase in rates over the last 20-30 years? And why this prevalence of multiple conditions? Working with my own patients, I believe there are several key reasons.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Even in a recent randomized controlled study, it was shown that there is about a 30% reduction in autoimmune diseases with just 2 key nutrients, versus the placebo alone. Why isn't this plastered all over the news!?!?

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I'll tell you why: They are inexpensive solutions that address some of the root causes in autoimmune diseases. And there is not enough money to be made because nutrients are not able to be patented. That's the sad reality.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you or someone you know is suffering with an autoimmune condition, you'll need to: 1) Educate yourself on root causes (not just symptoms management or blood work management) 2) Take matters into your own hand to vastly improve and, in some cases, cure these conditions.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Let’s first discuss the study with the 2 nutrients. The study consisted of 25,000+ older adults and was done over 5 years.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The intervention was 2,000 IU’s of Vitamin D and 1,000 mg of Omega-3’s (840 mg of EPA & DHA). After the 5 years, there was a 30% reduction in autoimmune diseases when compared to the placebo group. That’s a HUGE decrease! And from 2 simple nutrients.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I’m going to cover the takeaways for you below. However, if you want to read the details of the BMJ study, you can go here. https://www.bmj.com/content/376/bmj-2021-066452

Vitamin D and marine omega 3 fatty acid supplementation and incident autoimmune disease: VITAL randomized controlled trial Objective To investigate whether vitamin D and marine derived long chain omega 3 fatty acids reduce autoimmune disease risk. Design Vitamin D and omega 3 trial (VITAL), a nationwide, randomized, double blind, placebo controlled trial with a two-by-two factorial design. Setting Nationwide in the United States. Participants 25 871 participants, consisting of 12 786 men ≥50 years and 13 085 women ≥55 years at enrollment. Interventions Vitamin D (2000 IU/day) or matched placebo, and omega 3 fatty acids (1000 mg/day) or matched placebo. Participants self-reported all incident autoimmune diseases from baseline to a median of 5.3 years of follow-up; these diseases were confirmed by extensive medical record review. Cox proportional hazard models were used to test the effects of vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids on autoimmune disease incidence. Main outcome measures The primary endpoint was all incident autoimmune diseases confirmed by medical record review: rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, autoimmune thyroid disease, psoriasis, and all others. Results 25 871 participants were enrolled and followed for a median of 5.3 years. 18 046 self-identified as non-Hispanic white, 5106 as black, and 2152 as other racial and ethnic groups. The mean age was 67.1 years. For the vitamin D arm, 123 participants in the treatment group and 155 in the placebo group had a confirmed autoimmune disease (hazard ratio 0.78, 95% confidence interval 0.61 to 0.99, P=0.05). In the omega 3 fatty acids arm, 130 participants in the treatment group and 148 in the placebo group had a confirmed autoimmune disease (0.85, 0.67 to 1.08, P=0.19). Compared with the reference arm (vitamin D placebo and omega 3 fatty acid placebo; 88 with confirmed autoimmune disease), 63 participants who received vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids (0.69, 0.49 to 0.96), 60 who received only vitamin D (0.68, 0.48 to 0.94), and 67 who received only omega 3 fatty acids (0.74, 0.54 to 1.03) had confirmed autoimmune disease. Conclusions Vitamin D supplementation for five years, with or without omega 3 fatty acids, reduced autoimmune disease by 22%, while omega 3 fatty acid supplementation with or without vitamin D reduced the autoimmune disease rate by 15% (not statistically significant). Both treatment arms showed larger effects than the reference arm (vitamin D placebo and omega 3 fatty acid placebo). Study registration ClinicalTrials.gov [NCT01351805][1] and [NCT01169259][2] Data from this study might be considered for release if the appropriate institutional review board approval and publication clearances have been obtained, and a project is approved by the VITAL oversight committee. @DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This study stated: “Autoimmune diseases [rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, autoimmune thyroid disease, psoriasis, and all others], are characterized by an inflammatory autoimmune response to self-tissues...”

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you are not aware, autoimmune diseases are chronic inflammation diseases. Deficiencies of Vitamin D and Omega-3’s are primary causes of chronic inflammation.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

In our Industrialized World, these deficiencies are rampant due to our lack of sun exposure & the decrease of these nutrients in our food supply. It's nearly impossible for your body to properly resolve or regulate inflammation without sufficient intakes of Vitamin D & Omega-3’s

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Specifically, “Vitamin D regulates an array of genes, many involved in inflammation and acquired and innate immune responses.” This is key when it comes to autoimmune diseases.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I’m going to explain the details a little later. But know that this is why this study had such a profound decrease in autoimmune diseases.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

“Animal and in vitro studies indicate that increased dietary intake of Omega-3 fatty acids inhibit production of C reactive protein and inflammatory cytokines… which promote resolution of inflammation.”

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Thankfully, I was made aware of Vitamin D and Omega-3’s dramatic effects on inflammation about 15 years ago. This is also why I have been supplementing with Vitamin D and Omega-3’s on a daily basis over that time frame.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you want to properly regulate your inflammation, they are a no-brainer to take in our Industrialized World. The study also stated: “A significant interaction was found with time, pointing to an increased effect after longer duration [after 2 yrs] of supplementation.”

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Again, consistency is key so your body can regulate inflammation appropriately & heal. Unregulated & unresolved inflammation is not just for autoimmune diseases but is at the root of practically every chronic disease.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

And chronic diseases are what ~80% of the American healthcare dollars are spent on. If you want to decrease what you spend on healthcare, you want to do everything you can to prevent chronic disease. This means lowering your inflammation.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The study also states: “The clinical importance of this trial is high because these are well tolerated, non-toxic supplements, and other effective treatments to reduce the incidence of autoimmune diseases are lacking.”

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Which I would agree with wholeheartedly. I have seen this to be the case with my patients. They are a "no brainer" if you want to address the root causes.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

With Autoimmune Diseases, Why Specifically Is Vitamin D So Important? In order to regulate inflammation and have a proper immune response, you need regulatory T cells (Tregs).

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

T͟h͟i͟s͟ ͟i͟s͟ ͟i͟m͟p͟o͟r͟t͟a͟n͟t͟:͟ Tregs allow your body to turn away from going into chronic inflammation or an autoimmune condition, and instead responds with a normal inflammation resolving function and immune tolerance.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Here’s the interesting thing: The Tregs are run by Vitamin D! They have Vitamin D receptors on them. If they don’t have Vitamin D attached to them, they cannot regulate inflammation and they cannot regulate a proper immune response.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻, 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝗗. Yes, I wrote it twice. It’s that important for you to understand!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Which is why ~99% of autoimmune cases, when tested upon initial diagnosis, have low levels of Vitamin D. The body literally does not have the essential nutrients it needs for the immune system to function like it should and have a normal immune response.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This is why over 5 years of this BMJ study, they were able to see a 30% reduction in autoimmune cases. And this was with only 2,000 IU’s of Vitamin D3 and 840 mg of EPA/DHA (more about optimal dosing later).

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

In autoimmune diseases, the “auto” = self So, with autoimmune diseases, the body’s immune system begins to attack itself.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If someone doesn’t have sufficient levels of Vitamin D, they get an overzealous immune response to a pathogen and the body then starts attacking itself through a process called molecular mimicry. Then the autoimmune disease ensues in their body.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

However, those who have sufficient Vitamin D levels have significantly lower rates of autoimmune diseases because they respond with a normal immune response that does not become overzealous.

I shared significant insights on the potential link between Tylenol use and rising autism rates. Tylenol depletes glutathione, a crucial antioxidant that supports detoxification and mitochondrial function. Low glutathione levels, combined with toxic substances and inflammation from diet, create a perfect storm for neurological damage. To improve health, I recommend focusing on whole foods, reducing toxic exposure, and considering N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) supplements to boost glutathione production. Additionally, I discussed the importance of folate for neurological function.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Huge recommendations were made yesterday to reduce Autism rates. One that may be surprising is the use of Tylenol & increasing rates of autism. I will explain below in simple terms why this occurs, so you understand. THREAD https://t.co/thJIv9ui9Q

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) is well known to deplete glutathione levels in the liver. When Tylenol is metabolized by the liver, it produces a compound that binds with glutathione and reduces glutathione levels available to the liver.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This is precisely why long-term use of Tylenol can result in acute liver failure. But you might be thinking, "What is glutathione & how does it relate to autism?" Glad you asked 😉

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Glutathione is the "master antioxidant" in the body. Or another way of saying it, is glutathione is the "mater detoxifier" compound in the body.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Glutathione is found in every cell in the body & does the following: •Combats oxidative stress •Detoxifies harmful substances •Reduces inflammation •Supports mitochondrial function

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I want to put particular focus on mitochondrial function. Your mitochondria are like the engines of your cells. They are what produce the energy.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

You have ~30 trillion cells in your body. Most cells have 1 to a few mitochondria per cell. Then you have certain brain cells that have a million mitochondria (engines) per cell!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Due to their high mitochondrial activity, brain cells are much more susceptible to glutathione deficiencies. So, when you have a substance like Tylenol that reduces the production & availability of glutathione, you are setting a person up to have issues.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

But, it is not only due to the use of Tylenol. If you noticed above, glutathione is responsible for detoxifying harmful substances and reducing inflammation.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

First, let me address something that has been controversial. But first read fully what I write below, so you can understand.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Every vaccine contains either a preservative or stabilizer for when it is being made, stored and transported. When injected, the body has to detoxify these substances as the are "foreign" to the body.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If there is a reduction of glutathione, there is a reduction of the ability to detoxify. Which can cause damage to the cells and mitochondria. So, at this point, we have "2 strikes" against the individual. And subsequently, a higher likelihood of damage.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Now, if we look at American's as a whole, we consume an incredible amount of pro-inflammatory foods and drinks. This in turn places our bodies in an inflamed state. If the baby is being breast fed, we look at the inflammation states of the mother that is producing the milk.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If the mother is consuming the Standard American Diet (SAD), there is a very high likelihood their bodies are inflamed. And therefore, their child's body is inflamed. This is no fault to the mother. Nearly 100% have no knowledge of the connection.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If they are feeding their baby formula, so many of the formulas are also pro-inflammatory with their ingredients. Again, the mothers are doing what they think is best and not purposefully trying to create an inflamed state.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

But when we combine: •Low glutathione levels •Toxic substances •Inflamed bodies You have a perfect trio to create neurological damage in the brain. (i.e. Autism)

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Combine the above 3 with: •An altered gut microbiome •Chemicals, preservatives & dyes added to food (more toxins to detoxify) And now we really have a perfect storm for autism rates to soar... which is exactly what we have seen over the last few decades.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

So, what can you do to improve body's environment & your child's? First & foremost, eat whole, real food 95%+ of the time. If you can get organic, even better. I can't emphasize this enough!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

To increase your glutathione levels, the rate limiting factor of glutathione being synthesized and made by the liver, is a substance called N-acetyl cysteine (NAC). You can pick it up in supplement form & it is relatively inexpensive.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If I am in a situation or dinner where I know the food isn't the healthiest, I will take a NAC capsule. Or if I have an occasional alcoholic drink (alcohol also reduces glutathione levels in the liver), I will also take a NAC capsule to combat the effects. Typically 600-1,200 mg.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

In short, you want to: •Decrease your toxic load •Decrease your systemic inflammation •Increase your glutathione production •Improve your gut function These will not only help reduce autism rates, but vastly improve many chronic health conditions.

Folic acid is found nowhere in nature… I’ve written about this topic previously… However, folate is found in nature. The usable form (methyl folate) has to be converted in the body, or taken in supplemental form. Those that have a genetic variant on the MTHFR gene have more of a difficulty converting folate to this usable form. Which methylated, folate and other methylated nutrients play a very important role in proper neurological function.

Many people underestimate the seriousness of pre-diabetes and often resist medication, seeking a way to reverse it instead. Pre-diabetes is a metabolic dysfunction that can lead to serious health issues if not addressed. I’ve witnessed numerous patients, like Barbara, successfully reverse their condition through lifestyle changes without medication. I’m developing a program to assist those struggling with pre-diabetes, weight loss, and energy issues. I'm looking to interview individuals facing these challenges to create a meaningful program. If you fit this description, please reach out.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Many don’t realize the severity of pre-diabetes. They don’t want to have the diagnosis. And often they don’t want to take the meds. They want to get rid of it. And luckily, there is a way. THREAD https://t.co/QIKP71MAUX

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

At its core, pre-diabetes is a condition of metabolic dysfunction. When someone finally get’s diagnosed with it, the truth is, it’s been “brewing” for years until it gets bad enough to diagnose on lab work. That’s when the elevated A1c gets found.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Often, pre-diabetes is associated with other metabolic dysfunction: •High Blood Pressure •High Cholesterol •Excess Weight

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Many are told by their doctor that they need to start managing it, and to begin taking medications for it. The medications do manage it, but never cure pre-diabetes. This is because they never address the root issue: insulin resistance.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The reality is, pre-diabetes can be reversed and patients don’t have to be stuck on meds. Why can I say this? Because I’ve seen 100’s and 100’s of my own patients do exactly this.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Before coming to me, Barbara was one of those patients. Her blood sugars & A1c had continued to slowly rise. She started eating healthy, but even still, when she went to her primary doctor she was told she was prediabetic. https://t.co/RHgpkh6Q94

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Her doctor's only option to get it under control was to put her on medications. Like many patients who come to me, Barbara did not want to be on diabetic medications the rest of her life.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

So, she asked her doctor if she could hold off for just 3 months, try something different, and then re-test her A1c. A family member had told her about me.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

She then contacted my clinic, came in & I put together a program for her to follow. She followed it & her blood sugar levels started reducing.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

She also started dropping weight that she had been struggling to lose. Her energy went up as well! She went back about 90 days later and had her A1c re-tested.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The results came back & she was no longer pre-diabetic...without having to take any medications! I also taught her what she could do long-term to keep her blood sugar & A1c levels under control.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

What I see so often is people first get diagnosed as pre-diabetic. They have their conditioned “managed”. All the while, it continues to slowly worsen because the meds do not actually fix the problem. Many of them ultimately become diabetics.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Which diabetes has its own host of advanced issues. In fact, diabetes is the #1 cause of the following in America: •Kidney Failure •Blindness •Amputation

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

No one thinks they will get to any of these when they are first diagnosed as a pre-diabetic. Unfortunately, many end up in these scenarios… but they don’t have to!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you are a pre-diabetic, let this be your warning sign to get things under control and address the problem at it’s core. It is significantly easier to take care of when you are pre-diabetic vs. a Type 2 Diabetic.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you need some help, follow me @DrBPHealth Start to apply what I write about. I share here on X for you, so please use it!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you are prediabetic, and also need to: •Lose Weight •Increase Your Energy •Fix Your Gut Issues I would like to speak with you.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I'm in the early stages of developing a program for people outside of my clinic who have the above 3 issues. And frankly, I need your help to make it the best experience. This is incredibly important work to not only me, but those I'll be helping in the future.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

In order to create the most impactful and transformational program possible, I am looking to interview people who fit the above description and learn more about their challenges, frustrations, dreams and goals. This is purely for research purposes to be able to create something very impactful.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Do you fit this description, and would you mind being interviewed? This research is crucial and I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to connect.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I͟M͟P͟O͟R͟T͟A͟N͟T͟:͟ My only ask is that you meet the above 3 criteria before reaching out to book a call. I have VERY limited availability each week due to my clinical schedule. If you fit this description, comment "Please Help" below and I will private message you. We can then schedule a time to speak (it won’t take more than 30 minutes).

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I'll end with this: You are helping me gain insight that will ultimately allow me to help many other people around the world, with these issues. So... https://t.co/D4hK0mbEEY

I've noticed a meme circulating recently that I believe is misleading. My focus has always been on identifying root causes of health issues rather than just managing symptoms. Most healthcare professionals enter the field to help, but their training often lacks depth in areas like diet and lifestyle, leaving them ill-equipped to provide meaningful advice. I advocate for self-education in key health areas, as this can lead to significant improvements. While the system has flaws, taking charge of your health through informed choices is essential.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I've been seeing this meme getting shared in recent weeks. Frankly, I believe it is wrong. And I'll explain why it is. THREAD

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you've read my writings for any length of time, you know I am big on looking for root causes of health issues and addressing those. Not simply addressing (covering up) symptoms or managing blood values.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I've observed that most of my colleagues in the healthcare field got into the business because they wanted to help people. Yes, there are some bad apples out there. But by in large, most of them pursued their professional path for the right reasons. The biggest reason: to help people

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

However, you can only help someone if you have a knowledge base in a particular area. I know pretty much nothing about the workings of nuclear physics. So, I am not the person to help you solve a problem or set up a facility for nuclear physics.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If we look at the medical training in America, do you know how many hours the average medical student gets when going through med school, residency & fellowship programs?

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you guessed 0-1 total class time hours during their entire 6-10+ years of schooling, you'd be spot on. Yes, ZERO to ONE hour total!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Now, what do you think their expertise is going to be on giving advice in that arena? No better than the average person on the street! This is precisely why (if they do even ask a patient about diet or lifestyle), most providers will give a general response of, "You to begin eating a healthier diet".

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If pushed by the patient on what that means, the patient will hear something along the lines of, "You'll want to cut down on carbs, eat more fruits & vegetables, focus on lean meats, stay away from red meat and make sure you eat whole grains." Which practically tells the patient NOTHING. And frankly, is wrong 😎

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

But why do so many give this same advice? It's because that's what they have heard needs to be followed in the general population & media. Or at continuing education classes as a brief snippet of advice. Which classes are sponsored by Pharma, BioMed & BioTech, so I am sure there are no biases.😉

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The problem runs deeper than being a "dealer and not a healer". The problem starts with the education. And essentially, most medical providers are trained with 3 treatment options (tools) through their education: •Medications (pills, liquids, creams & inhalants) •Injections •Surgery

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If it falls outside of these 3 tools of treatment, most medical providers never learn about it. So, how do you expect them to have any level of expertise on diet or lifestyle modification? They are literally making healthcare decisions & giving advice, based on what they have been fully trained in.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

It's only when a healthcare professional has broken out of the "mold" (typically due to their own health issues that are not being solved by traditional allopathic medical care) that they start searching for other tools of treatment.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

And when they learn about these new tools (diet, lifestyle & others), and start applying them, they see results. When they see there is "another way" that can produce even better outcomes and share it with other colleagues, they are questioned. Some are ridiculed. Others are ostracized.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

So, obviously, if we look at the "root cause" of why most healthcare professionals do not ask about diet & lifestyle, it is because their education never provides it. Which the obvious solution would be to change the curriculum.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

But when you look at who funds the schools, the research, the journals that contain the research, the organizations who make the "standards of care" and treatment guidelines, etc.... it becomes clear. You simply follow the 💰 and the incentives of why the schools would not change the curriculum becomes obvious.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

But that is a whole other long post that I am not writing today 😎 So, what can YOU do that regain your health?

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

You can't wait for massive policy & funding changes to take place, to change the education, to then graduate providers who have any level of expertise in functional diet & lifestyle changes for better health, to then take care of you. That change is going to be a long process.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I believe you have 2 options: First, if you need a provider that already has training in this type of care, you'd be best to find a functional medicine practitioner in your area. Here's probably the largest database of practitioners. https://www.ifm.org/find-a-practitioner

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Your second option is for each and every one of you. I think your best bet is to educate yourself.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

You need to know what to do to keep your body in the best environment, so that you can allow your body to function and genetically express itself to it's highest potential. This is why I believe Self-Care is the future of HEALTHcare.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

That means focusing on these 10 areas: •What you eat •How you move •What you think •How you sleep •Your light exposure •Your stress levels •Your relationships •Your spiritual walk •Your financial stress •And your toxin exposures

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When you focus on educating yourself in these 10 areas, and start applying what you learn, you will see DRAMATIC improvements in your health. Why? Because these environmental inputs tell your genetics how to perform (or express themselves).

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Crappy environmental input = crappy genetic expression (i.e. symptoms, abnormal bloodwork, diseases, etc.) Great environmental inputs = great genetic expression (i.e. great health)

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This is why I routinely tell patients and write: Your body has an amazing ability to heal, if you give it the right environment...and IF you do it long enough.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The above 10 areas are the things that address 80%+ of healthcare issues and costs in America... probably closer to 90%. Will you still have emergency & acute health issues? Yes, probably so.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

And you know what is great for those emergencies & acute issues? You might have guessed: •Medications (pills, liquids, creams & inhalants) •Injections •Surgery Those are the correct tools for these types of situations!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I'll end with this: Don't rag on your healthcare provider too hard. The system is broken, and they are in it doing their best. Take matters into your own hands and start educating yourself on practical diet & lifestyle changes to improve your health.

Fruit and vegetable juices are often promoted as part of a healthy diet, but they can actually cause harm metabolically. Consuming fruit juice leads to a significant blood sugar spike, causing the body to release insulin to lower it. Consistently consuming high-glycemic fruit juices, combined with a high-glycemic diet, can contribute to conditions like pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Vegetable juices without fiber have the same blood sugar effect as fruit juices. Ultimately, fruit and vegetable juices have negative blood sugar and hormonal effects similar to regular soft drinks. There are certain vegetable juices that can be consumed without the blood sugar effect, but juicing all fruits and vegetables can negatively impact gut function.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Often fruit & vegetable juices are promoted to be part of a healthy diet. Some promote juice cleanses and detoxes. However, they often cause more harm than good, metabolically speaking. Let me explain. THREAD

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When I was •growing up as a kid •throughout high school •throughout college I regularly drank orange juice at breakfast. After all, it was promoted as being healthy. And I was getting my Vitamin C too!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

That’s what was marketed to me. So, I believed it to be healthy. My favorite was Tropicana's “grove stand” with the extra pulp.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Early in my career, I also made smoothies with a base of fruit juice. Again, I thought it was healthy because that is what I was taught as a doctor.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Later I learned that what I thought was healthy, was not the best thing for me. In fact, my blood sugar levels were being taken on a rollercoaster ride!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When anyone consumes a glass of fruit juice, there is a significant blood sugar spike that soon follows. Your body does not like high blood sugar. So, in order to lower your blood sugar your body releases the hormone insulin.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If done periodically, it’s no big deal. Your body can handle it. However, if done consistently •day after day •week after week •month after month The negative metabolic effects start to add up.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Combine high-glycemic fruit juices with the Standard American Diet (SAD) that is also high-glycemic, and it’s not surprising that for the last 30 years we have had sharp rises in: •Pre-Diabetes •Type 2 Diabetes •Metabolic Syndrome

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If we study countries like China & India, which have adopted much of our Western dietary habits, these countries have even had sharper rises in Type 2 Diabetes rates over the same time!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

It doesn’t matter the fruit juice. It can be: •orange •grape •apple •any type of fruit The blood sugar effect is going to be very similar.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

To give you a visual, let’s take a look at what consuming 2 apples does to your blood sugar when consumed in different formats:

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

As you can see, the effects on blood sugar are dramatically different in the 3 scenarios. When your blood sugar gets in the pink area, insulin is likely taking the blood glucose and storing it as fat. This is one of the ways the body lowers blood sugar.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The sharper the spike or rise in blood sugar, the more insulin is released. And the more insulin is released, the more your body will take and store the blood sugar for future energy… as fat!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If that wasn’t bad enough, the more insulin resistant you are (pre-diabetics, Type 2 Diabetics, those with Metabolic Syndrome), the more easily insulin takes blood sugar and stores it as fat. So, these individuals have a higher tendency to gain weight more easily.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I imagine this is the exact opposite of what they probably want. And it is also the exact opposite of what needs to happen, to get healthy.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Some people use vegetable juices instead because they believe they are healthier. However, when many vegetables are juiced and the fiber is removed, it has the same blood sugar effect as fruit juices.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Ultimately, individuals who are consuming high-glycemic vegetable juices are setting themselves up for metabolic dysfunction.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Fruit juice (and many vegetable juices) have practically the same negative blood sugar and hormonal effects as drinking a regular soft drink! I don’t believe most people think this occurs when they consume fruit & vegetable juices.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Here’s the good news, there are certain vegetable juices you can consume without the blood sugar effect. I am going to cover them in my newsletter tomorrow. However, with that being said, there is another thing you need to be aware of….

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When you juice all fruits & vegetables, it directly affects your gut function. And it’s not for the better. I will also cover that in my free newsletter tomorrow. You can join us here, for free: http://www.drbphealth.com

Many people experience bleeding gums when brushing and flossing, indicating inflammation in the body. This condition is called gingivitis, and simply brushing and flossing more won't fix it. To address the root cause, steps such as cleaning up the diet, reducing refined sugar consumption, checking Vitamin D levels, and ensuring sufficient Omega-3 intake are recommended. Vitamin D and Omega-3 deficiencies are common in those with gingivitis. High-quality supplements are available to overcome these deficiencies. Following these steps can lead to positive results in a few weeks.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Do your gums bleed like this when you brush your teeth and floss? I guarantee your body is inflamed. I'll explain why & what to do to reverse it. https://t.co/L1YmadcQf1

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This condition is called gingivitis. If we break the word down, it literally means "inflammation of the gums". Most people are told to just brush & floss more. This won't fix it.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

You have to address the root cause of why the gums are even inflamed in the first place. I will walk you through the top 4 steps to get rid of your bleeding gums.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

STEP 1 Clean up your diet. This is the biggest inflammatory agent. In short, eat: •Meat/eggs/seafood •Vegetables •Healthy fats (no seed oils) •Whole, real fruit •Limit grains

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

STEP 2 You have to eliminate/drastically reduce your refined sugar consumption. It's the #1 most pro-inflammatory thing you are consuming. This includes fruit juices (hence, why I said the eat whole real fruit)

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

STEP 3 Check your Vitamin D levels. 30-100 ng/mL is considered "normal. If you are a 32 or 41, you are not normal. Frankly, you are low. You need to be at least 50, but optimally in the 70's or 80's.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Nearly everyone who has gingivitis is low in Vitamin D. Vitamin D is really not a vitamin. Technically, it's a hormone. Specifically a steroid hormone. You may know, steroids help regulate and lower inflammation.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Your body cannot regulate inflammation when you are low in Vitamin D. And one of the signs you will see is bleeding gums.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The one below is a high-quality Vitamin D, in a healthy carrier oil, for the best price. I personally take it, and I use it with patients regularly. The bottle will last 3-4 months. It comes out to 7-8 cents per day. It's a no brainer for the value. https://us.fullscript.com/protocols/drbphealth-vitamin-d3

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

STEP 4 The other nutrient most are deficient in, who have gingivitis, is Omega-3's. Omega-3's full name is "omega 3 essential fatty acid". They are called "essential" because our bodies can't make them. We have to get them from our food.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

They are needed at a cellular level for our bodies to regulate inflammation. When people are deficient in Omega-3's, they can not regulate inflammation like they should. Besides gingivitis, this leads to a whole host of other health ailments. Omega-3's lower inflammation.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

We primarily get Omega-3's from animal products. Animals have the ability to take grass and foliage and convert it to Omega-3's. We as humans do not. Unfortunately, our food system has changed significantly in the last 70 years. Particularly, how animals are fed and raised.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

However, when they eat primarily grains (which are filled with Omega 6's that are pro-inflammatory), the animal flesh contains less Omega-3's. When humans consume this, they in turn have less Omega-3's for their bodies to use.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Since humans primarily get the majority of their Omega-3's from animal products, if a person chooses to follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, there is a significantly higher probability that they're deficient in this essential nutrient But there is a way to overcome this. See below

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Besides Vitamin D, Omega-3's are one of the only other supplements I have taken for 10+ years. There are just too many health benefits to not take this essential nutrient.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Whether you consume animal products or are a vegan, we now have the ability to take high quality Omega-3's at very good prices. Both of the below options have a therapeutic and great ratio of EPA to DHA (these are the Omega-3's you want to take).

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you consume animal products, this is the one I take and use with patients regularly. I take 2 capsules per day https://us.fullscript.com/protocols/drbphealth-omega-3-essential-fatty-acids

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you are vegan or vegetarian, you'll want to get this one (the other product above is derived from fish). You only need to take 2 capsules per day to get sufficient EPA and DHA. Most vegan Omega-3's don't contain DHA...which is crucial. This one does. https://us.fullscript.com/protocols/drbphealth-omega-3-essential-fatty-acids-vegan

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Follow the above steps & many will see results in just a couple of weeks. Most everyone does in 30 days. Some severe cases take 60+ days depending on the individual's overall health. The body has an amazing ability to heal…. IF you give it the right environment long enough.

High cholesterol doesn't cause heart disease. It's chronic inflammation that damages the heart and arteries. In the 1940s and 1950s, the rise in heart disease was due to smoking, refined sugar, and seed oils, not saturated fat. Total cholesterol alone isn't a reliable indicator. To address the root cause, focus on reducing inflammation by eliminating pro-inflammatory items, eating soluble fiber and healthy fats, and considering supplements like omega-3s, vitamin D3, and turmeric. After 8-12 weeks, retest your blood for positive changes. #HeartHealth

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

High cholesterol doesn't cause heart disease. And there is a good chance you can get off your statins (cholesterol medication). Let me explain why & how. THREAD https://t.co/uXx787Kxu3

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

For decades it's been communicated that high cholesterol causes heart disease. Even with clear research in the last 10-15 years, this continues to be communicated. I can assure you, high cholesterol does not cause heart disease. It is associated with it but does not cause it.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This is analogous to saying smoke causes things to be burned up. No, the fire is what causes things to be burnt up. The smoke is a sign that there is a fire. Just like cholesterol (smoke) is a sign of heart disease (something is getting burned).

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

So the question is, what's the fire that causes heart disease? It's inflammation. Specifically, chronic inflammation. Medical terms have their root in Latin. Interestingly, inflammation in Latin means "fire". The inflammation causes damage to the heart & arteries.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

For millennia humans didn't have heart disease issues. In fact, in the early 1900s, a physician could go their entire career and not see a single heart disease or heart attack patient. That certainly wouldn't happen now!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

It wasn't until the 1930s that heart attacks started to become an issue. They increased more in the 1940s. And in the 1950's it became an epidemic. And in 1955 when Dwight D. Eisenhower had a heart attack as the sitting U.S. president, the disease became front and center.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Eisenhower was in the hospital for 10 days. Now all the attention was put on this new disease that was suddenly killing men & women in their 40s, 50s & 60s.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

A scientist by the name of Ancel Keys hypothesized that it was due to saturated fat. Saturated fat was "causing a rise in cholesterol and clogging the arteries."

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This started the scientific community down the path of lowering cholesterol and recommending reducing saturated fats in the diet. Unfortunately, this was a grave mistake. It was not the ultimate cause, and the given advice was also not the answer. This would lead to decades...

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

... of unnecessary suffering and early deaths. Here's what happens: When the body has inflammation, and the inner linings of the heart and arteries get damaged, the body adapts to repair it. Think of standing in a small room and someone knocking a hole in the wall.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

It would look unsightly. So you would repair the hole, patch it, texture it and paint it. That section of the wall would be a little bit thicker. No big deal. But imagine doing this same process every day, or multiple times a day, for 20 years.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The walls of the room would slowly enclose in. Eventually, you would be standing in a very small room and feel very claustrophobic. This is exactly what happens to the walls of arteries. Inflammation damages them.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The body's adaptive repair mechanism is to produce specific types of cholesterol (more on this later) to repair the damage. 1 or 2 days, no big deal. 20 years of doing this daily, and the arteries clog. Eventually, they can clog completely and cause a heart attack.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Roughly 37% of the time, the first sign of a heart attack....death. This is what was happening in the 1940s & 1950s. People were just dropping dead. So what was causing the sudden rise in inflammation in the 1940s and 1950s if it wasn't saturated fat that caused it?

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

It was three-fold: It was an increase in smoking. And it was an increase in the consumption of refined sugar and also seed oils. It was not dietary saturated fat. In fact, saturated fat increases good cholesterol (HDL) and lowers small, dense LDL particles.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Small, dense LDL particles are the specific type of LDL associated with heart disease. Before we go further, you need to understand how Total Cholesterol is calculated HDL + LDL + 20% Triglycerides= Total Cholesterol

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If your total cholesterol is over 200, you are typically recommended to begin statins (cholesterol medication) to lower your cholesterol. In fact, they are one of the most prescribed drugs in America. But there is more to LDL. All LDL particles aren't created equal.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

LDL has what are called subfractions. This is the newer science that has been out for the last 10+ years. There are 3 main types of LDL subfractions: 1. Big puffy LDL particles (not assoc. with heart disease) 2. Medium-sized LDL particles (not associated with heart disease)

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

3. Small, dense LDL particles (associated with heart disease) When a person starts eating saturated fats and other healthy fats, the following happens: •HDL increases •Big puffy LDL particles increase •Medium-sized LDL particles increase •Small, dense LDL particles DECREASE

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Which is exactly what we want for heart disease! Now, when patients do what I describe below, they will go back to their cardiologist and their doc will often say "Well, I've seen you lost a lot of weight...

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

....But your total cholesterol has gone up so you need to continue with your cholesterol medication and decrease your saturated fats." It's no surprise they say this because it's all they've ever been taught. However, it's no longer backed by the latest research.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If their other doctor says this, here's what I tell my patients to do: Go get an advanced lipid panel that measures your LDL subfractions. The 2 major labs in the U.S. are: LabCorp- the test is called NMR LipoProfile -or- Quest Diagnostics- the test is called Cardio IQ

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Every time my patients followed the below suggestions & went to get one of these tests afterwards here's the outcome: •HDL is great •Big puffy LDL is great •Medium-sized LDL is great •Small, dense LDL is low & great! There's no concern for heart disease. Their risk is down!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

We can no longer simply look at Total Cholesterol alone and make a recommendation for cholesterol medications. The implications of simply doing this are too grave. Here's why I say this:

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Cholesterol is needed for proper brain & cellular function, it's a precursor for every sex hormone in the body, and cholesterol does so much more! We can't simply block the liver's production of cholesterol with meds. We have to address the root cause of the issue: inflammation

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Here's what I suggest to my patients: 1) Eliminate the most pro-inflammatory items: •Refined sugar •Seed oils (a.k.a. vegetable oils) (Learn why https://t.co/k9Pjktsi8x) •Processed grains •Smoking

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Every day you are eating oils that were only used in industrial machines just 100 years ago. They're making you fat & destroying your health. And you don't even realize it. THREAD https://t.co/f7Z1iWr06X

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

2) Eat lots of soluble fiber: •Whole, real vegetables •Whole, real fruit

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

3) Focus on eating these healthy fats: •Animal fats/lard/tallow •Fish oil •Coconut oil •Olive oil •Avocado oil •Avocados •Macadamia oil •Tree Nuts These have been consumed for millennia by humans. Before fats were ever demonized as unhealthy.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

4) Also consider taking these supplements, as they have the most research behind their anti-inflammatory effects: •Omega 3 essential fatty acids •Vitamin D3 •Tumeric (active ingredient is curcumin) Make sure to chose & pay for high quality. Your health is worth it!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Since people ask in comments & DM’s, here are the products I take & use with patients Omega 3’s (non-vegan) https://us.fullscript.com/protocols/drbphealth-omega-3-essential-fatty-acids

Lab-grown meat, approved by the USDA and Singapore's government, is being marketed as safe, environmentally friendly, and sustainable. However, without long-term human safety studies, these claims are purely marketing tactics. The company behind it, Eat Just, Inc., is financially backed by millions of dollars, which explains the push to sell the product. But tampering with nature and releasing a new food without proper research is risky. Our dental structure suggests that humans are omnivores, and consuming lab-grown meat may have unforeseen health consequences. It's important not to be swayed by fear and anger-driven marketing.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

It’s here! Meat that has 100% been grown in a lab, from cells. The USDA has approved it. You need to be aware so you are not part of an experiment on your health. Let’s dive in. THREAD

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Let’s discuss a little background on how something like this could even be approved by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). I like to call them the “US-Duh” based on some of their policies and approvals. You will soon see why this is not a smart move.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

In the media, it has been purported that there is not enough land to feed the world’s growing population. That we are going to have starving people if we don’t do something about it. Fear tactics.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

In more recent years, there has been a big push that cows are contributing to climate change. This is based on an analysis of our current CAFO operations in industrial ag. But has anyone looked at regenerative agriculture models? No.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Because regenerative ag actually sequesters carbon back into the soil. So instead of changing the paradigm in which they are raised, cows get labeled as bad and destroying the planet. Again, another fear tactic used to scare people.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

With fear, the powers that be can get the masses to move in the direction they want. Enter the picture: “cultivated” meat in a lab. Yes, this is not science fiction. This is real life.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

It is occurring right now, and as mentioned, the USDA has approved it to be sold in America. Singapore’s government has also approved it to be sold. I will touch on why these 2 governments have approved this first-ever lab grown meat later. Hint: follow the money.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The new lab-grown meat product is called GOOD Meat. It is produced by a company called Eat Just, Inc. Eat Just, Inc. received funding for their new product GOOD Meat.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

As described on their website, they are the “first company in the world to sell cultivated meat.” They do this by a “process of making sustainable, safe meat from animal cells instead of slaughtered animals.”

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

I find the wording they used interesting. First, “slaughtered animals”. Again, wording that is used to tug at emotions and heartstrings. To get people to buy into the cause/movement.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Second, “safe”. My questions on safety: Who determines this? Where’s their research? What are their long-term studies on human safety? I’ll answer for you: They have no research or long-term studies. It’s 100% marketing, which uses emotions to move people to buy.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Even though there are no human safety studies, it is going to be marketed to you as “safe”, “environmentally friendly”, and “sustainable”. You will see a lot of these marketing messages occurring in the coming months and years.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The reason? They are financially backed by 100’s of millions of dollars. If you have this much money behind you, you need to have a large swatch of the public behind your messaging, to buy your product. Otherwise, the business will soon not exist.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

And again, if you can get people fearful or angry, you can more easily get them to move and act. Now, if we step back and take emotion out of this and look at this new lab-meat logically, there starts to be crumbling reasons why you would NOT want to consume the lab-meat.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you look at a species of animal, you can tell a lot about them and what they consume by their teeth structure. A cow and a giraffe (herbivores) have significantly different dental structures than a shark and wolf (carnivores).

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

We could look at the teeth structure of humans and come to a conclusion. We could do this from an evolutionistic standpoint or a creationist standpoint and come to the same conclusion.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you are an evolutionist, you essentially believe that humans evolved over time, and the strongest survived. As a human species, we have canine teeth in our mouth structure. We also have incisors and molars to grind.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Based on our dental structure alone, you can surmise that we evolved to be omnivores. If you are a creationist, you believe that God made us to interact with our environment in a certain way. God also made our dental structure a particular way.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Which again, could easily be surmised that humans are omnivores. Either way, we come to the same conclusion that meat/animal products are part of a human diet. The meat that humans have consumed, we either: •Evolved to eat and digest •Were created to eat & digest

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When we start playing with nature, and invent a new “food” that has no long-term human safety studies before being released to market, I believe we are playing with fire. And our health is the thing that is going to get burned.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

As I alluded to earlier, there is a significant amount of capital backing this company. Sadly, money talks. Even to government entities that are supposed to protect the public.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Get it approved by the government entities, and then use fear and anger to sell. Gullible people will buy this Frankenstein-meat. But don’t be that person.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

You won’t believe who is backing GOOD Meat. This isn’t the first time a new “food” has been pushed on the general public, backed by big money. Tomorrow, I’ll cover who is financing it in my free newsletter. Join us for free, here: http://www.drbphealth.com

As winter approaches, it's crucial to prioritize three vital nutrients to prevent the common cold and flu. Vitamin D3, an anti-inflammatory steroid hormone, plays a significant role in regulating inflammation and reducing the severity of symptoms. Zinc, an anti-viral mineral, supports immune function and helps control inflammation. Lastly, Vitamin C, obtained through diet, is essential for cellular health and immunity. Maintaining optimal levels of these nutrients can enhance your body's defense against infections. Stay tuned for more information on food sources and additional strategies to stay healthy.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

As winter approaches, you’ll want to make sure you have enough of these 3 vital nutrients to help prevent the common cold & flu. The saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” has a lot of truth to it! Let’s dive in THREAD

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

We’ve all probably had the common cold & flu at some point in our lives When you have either, you feel miserable! You also miss out on activities you’d rather be enjoying and not waste sick or vacation days at work.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

There are steps you can take to reduce the risk of you getting the cold & flu. And if you do get either, these nutrients & strategies will reduce the severity & duration of symptoms There is not a single magic bullet that will prevent you from avoiding them

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

However, I have found a combination approach has provided me and my patients with a much better defense during the “cold and flu season”. I will cover will cover the 3 nutrients that are vital for your health & immunity

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The first nutrient you want to make sure you have sufficient amounts of is Vitamin D3. I’ve written before about Vitamin D3. What most don’t know is Vitamin D3 is actually a steroid hormone.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

As you may know, steroids (like corticosteroids) lower inflammation. Vitamin D is very anti-inflammatory in nature.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This is why around the globe, in multiple research papers, those who had sufficient levels of Vitamin D in their blood had a MUCH lower risk of having severe COVID-19 symptoms that required hospitalizations.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Those who did have severe symptoms, had a very strong correlation with low Vitamin D3 levels.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Why is this? When someone gets COVID, there is a cytokine storm that occurs in the body. Think of this as an “inflammatory bomb” in the body. This “inflammatory bomb” is why there is such a wide variety of symptoms with COVID.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If your body can better regulate & deal with this inflammation, the less severe the symptoms. As mentioned, Vitamin D is a large regulator of inflammation in the body

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This is why there is a direct correlation of Vitamin D levels, and severity of symptoms for not only COVID, but common colds and the flu.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Additionally, Vitamin D3 is anti-viral and anti-bacterial For conditions like the flu, which is viral, Vitamin D can help your immune system ward off and address the virus before it can infect your body and become symptomatic.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The common cold is bacterial. Again, sufficient Vitamin D can help your immune system fight it off if you are exposed and hopefully prevent your ever getting it.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Zinc is the second nutrient you want to make sure you have sufficient amounts of. Zinc is a mineral that is anti-viral and also helps regulate inflammation in the body.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Zinc deficiency affects cells involved in both innate and adaptive immunity. These cells include: •Monocytes •Polymorphonuclear Leukocytes •Natural killer cells •T-cells •B-cells

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Chronic deficiency of Zinc increases inflammation. With chronic deficiency, the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines increases. Remember the “cytokine storm” mentioned earlier with COVID? Having sufficient Zinc is vital for your immune system to function optimally.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The third nutrient to improve your immunity is Vitamin C. Vitamin C is made naturally in almost all living animals except humans, primates, and guinea pigs. Humans must consume Vitamin C from food sources, or they risk severe health problems.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

There is a direct relationship between glucose and Vitamin C that has a dramatic impact on immunity and overall cellular health. Glucose and Vitamin C have a very similar chemical makeup.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Both glucose and Vitamin C depend upon the hormone insulin and its signaling effects in order to get into cells. There is an important protein transporter called the GLUT-1 that turns on in response to insulin interacting with the insulin receptor.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

This allows both glucose and Vitamin C to enter the cell. However, glucose has a greater affinity for the insulin receptor. Meaning the more circulating blood sugar the less Vitamin C will enter the cell. Even immune cells like white blood cells.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

White blood cells (WBC’s) fight pathogens. They need Vitamin C to work. In fact, WBC’s need 50 times more vitamin C inside the cell than in the blood plasma in order to properly handle a pathogenic substance like a bacteria or virus.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If there is too much blood sugar, the Vitamin C will not be able to get into the WBC. This means the WBC’s won’t work as optimally to fight off infections. Vitamin C also activates what’s called the HMP shunt, while glucose inhibits it.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When the immune system is under attack it needs to quickly produce new immune cells. If blood sugar is high enough to turn off the HMP shunt it will reduce the amount of new immune cells formed.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Obviously, this will not help your body fight off the pathogen or prevent you from getting a cold or the flu. This is why you want to have a diet that is not only low-glycemic (keeps blood sugars low), but also sufficient in Vitamin C.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Tomorrow in my free newsletter, I will cover the foods that contain the most of these 3 nutrients. I will also cover 4 additional strategies that have helped me & my patients keep free of colds & the flu. You can join us here, for free: http://www.drbphealth.com

A groundbreaking scientific discovery revealed that what we consume directly impacts our genetic expression. This affects fertility, fetal development, and a child's growth. Researchers experimented with Agouti mice, known for obesity and disease susceptibility. By changing the mice's diet, offspring appeared normal, healthier, and lived longer. This study highlights the field of epigenetics, emphasizing the importance of our food choices in shaping genetic expression. Optimal nutrition is crucial for conceiving, pregnancy, nursing, and overall health. Our modern food system has negatively impacted genetic expression, leading to infertility and chronic diseases. Prioritize whole, real foods, organic and pastured options, healthy fats, vegetables, fruits, and unprocessed grains. Stay hydrated and remember that food is both fuel and information for our genes.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

There was a massive breakthrough in science a few years ago. What you consume directly affects your genetic expression. Which affects your ability to conceive, how your baby develops inside you & how your child grows outside the womb. Let me explain. THREAD https://t.co/4ScEqG63Qh

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The scientific breakthrough was unexpected & came from a specific type of mice used in cancer research. Mice have long been used in doing research for cancer and other disease processes. There is a particular breed of mice that is regularly used.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

They are called Agouti mice (pronounced “uh-goo-tee”) They are called Agouti mice because they have a particular mutant gene on the Agouti gene. This mutant gene turns them yellow, making them predisposed to becoming obese. It also predisposes them to develop diabetes & cancer.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Typically, when Agouti mice breed, most of their offspring look identical to the parents: just as yellow, fat as pincushions, and susceptible to life-shortening diseases.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

From a research perspective, they seem almost perfect specimens to try new treatments on. Researchers can see if the treatment helps with cancer, diabetes, and obesity.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

In a lab, typically mice are handled in a certain standard way, kept in the same lab enclosures, and fed the standard lab food for mice. You want to have practically no variants in your control and the test subject(s).

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

That is why there is diligence to keep everything the same for all the mice, other than the one treatment researchers are testing. But 2 scientists had a different idea. A theory they wanted to test.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

They thought maybe they would change something with the mice that would be unconventional and see if there were any changes to these yellow, obese, disease-prone mice. So, they did.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The scientists, Jirtle & Waterland, started feeding the mice a more genetically congruent diet than the standard lab food. Once these mice delivered their young, the parent mice in Jirtle & Waterland’s experiment produced a majority of offspring that looked altogether different.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

These young mice were: •Slender •Mousy brown Basically, they looked like “regular” mice. Completely different from prior generations of yellow, obese mice.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Additionally, as they continued to study the young mice as they aged over time, this slender and brown generation were significantly LESS susceptible to: •Obesity •Cancer •Diabetes

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Finally, these new generations of mice lived to a spry old age! The mutant Agouti gene that was once thought to be a certain early death sentence had been virtually erased.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Remarkably, the researchers affected this transformation without altering a single letter of the mouse’s DNA. Their approach was radically straightforward: They changed the mother’s diet to a genetically congruent diet!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Changing the mother’s diet to a genetically congruent diet, allowed the genetic expression of the offspring to change towards normal and healthy! NO obesity. NO cancer. NO diabetes. NO early death.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Studying how our environment affects our genetic expression, is a field of science called epigenetics. What we consume is one of those environmental factors. What we consume also has a SIGNIFICANT effect on our genetic expression.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Whether you are pregnant, nursing, trying to conceive, wanting to lose weight, or simply improving your health, how you fuel your body is of vital importance.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Specifically, if you are TRYING TO CONCEIVE, the food and drink you consume affect the genetic expression of your body carrying a pregnancy to term.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you are PREGNANT, the food and drink you consume directly affect your genetic expression and the genetic expression of your baby forming inside you.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you are NURSING, the food and drink you consume directly affect your genetic expression, and therefore the quality of milk your body produces. Which directly affects the development of your child.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Dr. Mark Hyman, M.D. once said, “We now know that food is information, not just calories, and that it can upgrade your biologic software. The majority of chronic disease are a food-borne illness. We ate ourselves into this problem and we have to eat ourselves out of it.”

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The food and drinks we put into our body are information to our genes. Depending on that information, our genes will express health or adaptive physiology. Adaptive physiology leads to obesity, diabetes, cancer and other chronic diseases.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you have read my writing for any length of time, you know that I regularly promote eating whole, real foods 90%+ of the time. It is because of the above reasons.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

It is estimated that human genetics change .1% every 40,000 years. For millennia, humans have been eating whole, real food. Not lab-created food. Not factory food. Not ultra-processed food.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

However, our food system and food supply have dramatically changed in the last 100 years. This change has wreaked havoc on our biology and genetic expression.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

When you change the the food so dramatically (our fuel for our body), you change what it is telling our genes to do. And frankly is a large reason why infertility rates continue to rise in recent decades.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

The body has an amazing ability to adapt. That is the adaptive physiology I mentioned earlier. But, it can only adapt for so long. Eventually, problems will come. It could be infertility. Or it could be in the form of chronic diseases.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Things like obesity, diabetes, cancer, autoimmune diseases, heart disease, dementia & Alzheimer’s to name a few. Just think of how much of our healthcare costs and decreased quality of life is due to just the above-mentioned disease processes. It’s the large majority!

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Due to the game-changing Agouti mice study back in 2006, we have begun to learn more and more that our environment has a massive effect on our health outcomes.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

Out of all environmental influences, I have observed that the food and drink we consume have the largest effect on our genetic expression.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

It is why I have said to patients many times over the years, “You can’t out-exercise a crappy diet. You can’t out-supplement a crappy diet. And you can’t out-medicate a crappy diet. The diet is the foundation to build upon.”

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

So what should you consume? In short, eat: •Meat/Poultry/Eggs/Seafood Always try to get organic, pastured, or wild caught

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

•Nuts/Seeds Raw is better than roasted. Light salt. If you do get roasted, make sure they are not roasted in seed oils/vegetable oils (this includes peanut oil)

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

•Veggies Grow your own or try and get organic. Or find a local farmer that grows them organically.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

•Healthy Fats Olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, grass-fed butter, grass-fed ghee, animal fats/lard/tallow, avocados & macadamia oil Definitely stay away from seed oils. They are: soybean, corn, canola, safflower, sunflower, cottonseed, peanut & grapeseed

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

•Whole Fruits If you have land, grow your own or try and get organic. Or find a local farmer that grows them organically.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

•Whole Milk Dairy If you don’t have a dairy sensitivity, always get full-fat/whole milk products. Definitely get organic. If you have access to raw milk dairy products, choose these.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

•Grains I would caution you about consuming too many grains. If you have a food sensitivity, allergic response, or are trying to lose weight, I would not consume.

@DrBPHealth - Dr. BP | Metabolism 2.0

If you do consume, always get unprocessed grains. Get organic. And you need to make sure the grain products are long-fermented (like sourdough bread).
