In January of this year, a group of Canadian doctors returned from Gaza and their testimonies about the dire situation they witnessed speak volumes about the harsh reality on the ground. Please listen to what they had to say. https://t.co/JrVnvZSoXd

Video Transcript AI Summary
A surgeon was feeling depressed about the situation in Gaza when a colleague invited them to join a trip there. In the hospital, they saw a high number of injuries, with 50% being children. The European Hospital had turned into a refugee camp with around 20,000 people. People had no place to go after treatment, so they lived in the hospital. The suffering was worse than expected, with starvation, lack of water, and overcrowded makeshift shelters. The trauma surgeon had to make difficult decisions about who to prioritize for surgery due to the lack of medical supplies. Working with Palestinian doctors was an honor, and leaving Gaza was emotional for everyone involved. They hope the media will show the reality of the situation, where a child is killed every 10 minutes.

Speaker 0: I was operating, at my hospital and one of my colleagues, surgical surgeon colleagues came up and, and saw me. He goes, what are you doing? I said, well, you know what? I'm just really depressed about what's going on with Gaza. And, he looked at me and he goes, you know, I'm I'm going to Gaza next week. And then he goes, do you wanna come? And the rest is history. Speaker 1: In the hospital, you start your day with, a huge amount of Of injuries, every day, 50% of them are children. Speaker 0: And the European Hospital has him transformed into a mini refugee camp. There's about 20,000 people living inside and outside. Speaker 2: People, when they have surgery or they get treated, They have no place to go, so they live all their life in in the hospital. Speaker 0: The suffering is tremendous. It's much worse than I imagined before I left. People are starving. There's no water. People are living in these makeshift shelters, and they're sharing one bathroom for about 200 people. Speaker 1: As a trauma surgeon, you know, it's quite difficult for you to make a decision who's gonna go To the OR, who you're gonna start with and who you're gonna leave behind? And likely the people that you're gonna leave behind, they will die. That's the most difficult decision For any physician in the world and unfortunately because of the lack of medical supplies, you have to make these difficult decisions. Speaker 0: You know, working with the Palestinian surgeons and doctors was an honor and privilege. They're a very strong resilient, group of, doctors who've been working 247. Speaker 1: We left Gaza with tears and you can see the tears not only in the faces of your colleagues, but even in the children in the tents surrounding the hospital where we used to play with them and chat with them every night when we go back to bed, certainly we're gonna miss these children. Speaker 2: I would definitely go back for sure or actually planning the next trip. Speaker 1: I think the media at the beginning was hesitant to show The reality on the ground, one child is killed every 10 minutes. That's the reality of the war, in Gaza that's what we have to show the media and hopefully the media will pick up and convey the reality to the audience.
