Governance We should join forces with our partners to ensure a global approach to understanding the impact of AI in our societies. We need a body for AI – providing the latest science to policymakers. This will allow us to develop a fast and globally coordinated response ↓

Video Transcript AI Summary
We are establishing a single governance system in Europe and aiming for a global approach to understanding the impact of AI. Similar to the IPCC for Climate, we need a global panel consisting of scientists, tech companies, and independent experts to assess the risks and benefits of AI for humanity. This will enable a coordinated and swift response, building upon the efforts of the Hiroshima process and other initiatives.

Speaker 0: The 2nd pillar is governance. We are now laying the foundation for a single governance system in Europe. But we should also join forces with our partners to ensure a global approach to understanding the impact of AI on our societies. Now think about the invaluable contribution of the IPCC for Climate. This is a global panel that provides the latest science to policy makers. I believe we need a similar body for AI on the risks and on its benefits for humanity. Yes, with scientists, but also tech companies and independent experts all around the world. This will allow us to develop a fast and globally coordinated response, Building on the work done by the Hiroshima process and others.

Guiding innovation Europe has now become a leader in supercomputing. We need to capitalise on this. We will put forward a new initiative to open up our high-performance computers to AI-start-ups. We need an open dialogue with those that develop and deploy AI.

Video Transcript AI Summary
Europe has become a leader in supercomputing, with 3 out of the 5 most powerful supercomputers in the world. To capitalize on this, a new initiative will open up high-performance computers to AI start-ups for responsible training of their models. However, this is just one part of guiding innovation. An open dialogue with AI developers and deployers is crucial, as seen in the United States where 7 major tech companies have agreed to voluntary rules on safety, security, and trust. In Europe, the aim is for AI companies to commit to the principles of the AI Act before it takes effect, working towards global standards for safe and ethical AI use. This is important for the well-being of our people.

Speaker 0: 3rd pillar is guiding innovation in a responsible way. Thanks to our investment in the last years, Europe has now become a leader in supercomputing. With 3 out of the 5 most powerful supercomputers in the world. So we need to capitalize on that. And this is why I can announce today a new initiative to open up our high performance computers to AI start ups that gives them the opportunity to train their models, but in a responsible way. But this will only be one part of our work to guide innovation. What we need is an open dialogue with those that develop and deploy AI. This dialogue happens already in the United States. As you know, 7 major tech companies have already agreed to voluntary rules around safety, security and trust. It happens here where we will work on A. I. Companies, with A. I. Companies, so that they voluntarily commit to the principles of the AI Act before it enters into force because we cannot lose time anymore. So now we should bring all of this work together towards minimum global standards for safe and ethical use of AI. Our people deserve it.
