❗️@gbsumudflotilla has come under attack 14 times between Tunis and Crete (11 explosions). Four vessels are now damaged and require urgent repair. As of last night, an unexploded device remains on one of the boats. Are states waiting for a boat to be sunk before intervening?

Israeli authorities have not allowed international journalists into Gaza, and they are massacring Palestinian journalists for trying to broadcast the genocide. On this flotilla, I will get as close to Gaza as I possibly can. And as a journalist, I must be protected according to the law. Norway's stance on Palestine highlights a significant contradiction. While the country boasts an active civil society and has made important strides regarding Palestine, its Pension Fund heavily invests in Israel's economy of occupation, with nearly 10% of its value tied to 45 companies I've examined. This contradicts Norway's international legal obligations and raises potential liability concerns. I've informed the government and the Pension Fund's Ethical Council about these investments. It's crucial that financial interests do not overshadow ethical commitments. If not Norway, who? If not now, when?

@FranceskAlbs - Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

1. Norway's position on Palestine epitomises the contradiction of our times. Norway has one of the most active and mature civil society in Europe when it comes to Palestine, critical media, engaged intellectuals and the government has taken very important steps on Palestine. https://t.co/OIkXjWZ46N

@FranceskAlbs - Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

2. Yet, its Pension Fund, which ammasses the wealth generated by the country oil sale, is robustly invested in Israel's economy of occupation. Nearly 10% of its total value is invested in 45 companies I have investigated in my last report. See para 77: https://www.un.org/unispal/document/a-hrc-59-23-from-economy-of-occupation-to-economy-of-genocide-report-special-rapporteur-francesca-albanese-palestine-2025/

@FranceskAlbs - Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

3. This stands in stark contrast with Norway's obligations under intl law and may even trigger liability given the intl crimes involved. I alerted the government and the Pension/Oil Fund itself, which has an Ethical Council that should have prevented/averted such investments. https://t.co/SQrIFnh3zP

@FranceskAlbs - Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

4. So far, financial considerations and interests seem to have prevailed over full compliance with int'l law and ethical commitments. May this be the time of real change and full compliance with int'l law and ethical principles. If not Norway, who? If not now, when?

I feel deeply shaken by the reality of children dying from hunger, falling like petals from a dying flower. It's hard to understand how leaders can sleep while doing nothing to stop Israel’s starvation campaign. Discussing politics while ignoring genocide is truly inaction.

I have never felt so shaken. Children are dying of hunger. Falling one after another, like petals of a dying flower. Under our watch. How do you sleep, Presidents, Foreign Ministers, political leaders, diplomats, civil servants - doing nothing to stop Israel’s starvation campaign? PS: Talking politics while dodging genocide perfectly meets the definition of doing nothing.

The heartbreaking images of starving children in Gaza reflect the depths of human cruelty. We must impose an arms embargo and sanctions on Israel and urgently deploy a protective presence with soldiers who are not complicit in the violence. It's time for the UNGA to take action under the "Uniting for Peace" resolution.

@FranceskAlbs - Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

The tiny bodies of children in Gaza, hollowed out by induced starvation, are testimony of the worst humanity is capable of. It is time to impose an arms embargo and sanctions on Israel, and urgently deploy a protection presence made of friendly soldiers (not from states who have supported the genocide). It is time for the UNGA to act under "Uniting for Peace" resolution.

I find it deeply troubling to see Israel's actions attributed to "the Jews" or "American Jews." The pro-Israel lobby is complex, with many non-Jewish Americans, including Christians and Evangelicals, offering fervent support. This support extends globally and significantly impacts material and political backing. Meanwhile, American Jews, like those from JVP, have consistently protested against U.S. policies, especially after October 7, often at great personal risk. I believe that the pursuit of justice must not involve any form of injustice, whether in actions or thoughts.

@FranceskAlbs - Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

This is terribly wrong. The pro-Israel lobby is quite a complex endeavour, and Israel's wrongdoings cannot and should never be attributed to "the Jews" or to "American Jews" as such. 1. MANY non-Jewish American (i.e. Christians, Evangelicals) support Israel with a hard-to comprehend messianic fervor. This is true in the US and abroad (even as far as The Pacific Islands) and translate in significant material and political support. 2. American Jews, like @jvplive and others, have constantly and unrelentlessly protested against US Admin choices and policies. All the more after Oct7, at great risk and cost for themeselves. I strongly believe that the struggle for justice cannot carry ANY injustice in itself (in the form of either actions/omission, or thought).

I believe that Anti-Arab, Islamophobic, and Anti-Palestinian rhetoric has been overlooked for too long. Real antisemitism also needs recognition, as some use it politically against those advocating for justice in Palestine. Racism is the underlying issue affecting many in Western political systems.

@FranceskAlbs - Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

For far too long AntiArab, Islamophobic and Anti-Palestinian rethorics have been invisibilised. Also invisibilised is real antisemitism (hate against the Jews as Jews) - Many found more poltically convenient to weaponise antisemitism against those asking for justice and rights in Palestine. Racism is the common root of these diseases, which regrettably still runs deep in many western political élites and systems.

Impaling prisoners with metal rods in their rectum is the last of the thousands horrors Palestinians have had to endure these past 8 months. However, abuses, torture, mass killing, wanton destruction, have been the daily reality for the Palestinians under Israeli rule for over half a century. Now everyone can see. Israel's military operations in Gaza are criticized for using jargon like warnings and safe zones to create the illusion of protecting civilians. This "humanitarian camouflage" is seen as turning Gaza into a place where everyone is killable and everything is destroyable. #StopGenocideInGaza #Rafah

Israel's use of #IHL jargon (warnings, evacuation orders, safe zones) is to create the illusion that its military operations ensure protection of civilians. I worked in the UNRWA compound in occupied Jerusalem, near the gas station. An Israeli mob tried to set fire to the perimeter, but luckily tragedy was avoided. Unlike Gaza, this is a place where diplomatic missions, consulates, and UN offices are present.

@FranceskAlbs - Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

I used to work exactly in that UNRWA compound, exactly in that small building, which sits facing the compound's gas station. As an Israeli mob set fire to the perimeter near the gas station, a tragedy was miraculously averted. This is not Gaza, where Israel rules lawlessly away from any "foreign" eye. This is occupied Jerusalem, where most diplomatic missions/consulates and UN offices are.

@UNLazzarini - Philippe Lazzarini

This evening, Israeli residents set fire twice to the perimeter of the UNRWA Headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem. This took place while UNRWA and other UN Agencies’ staff were on the compound. While there were no casualties among our staff, the fire caused extensive damage to the outdoor areas. The UNRWA headquarters has on its grounds a petrol and diesel station for the Agency’s fleet of cars. Our director with the help of other staff had to put out the fire themselves as it took the Israeli fire extinguishers and police a while before they turned up. A crowd accompanied by armed men were witnessed outside the compound chanting “Burn down the United Nations” (see video below 👇 from Israeli media). This is an outrageous development. Once again, the lives of UN staff were at a serious risk. In light of this second appalling incident in less than a week, I have taken the decision to close down our coumpound until proper security is restored. Over the past two months, Israeli extremists have been staging protests outside the UNRWA compound in Jerusalem, called by an elected member of the Jerusalem municipality. This week, the protest became violent when demonstrators threw stones at UN staff and at the buildings of the compound. Over the past months, UN staff have regularly been subjected to harassment and intimidation. Our compound has been seriously vandalized and damaged. On several occasions, Israeli extremists threatened our staff with guns. It is the responsibility of the State of Israel as an occupying power to ensure that United Nations personnel and facilities are protected at all times. UN staff, premises and operations should be protected at all times in line with international law. I call on all those who have influence to put an end to these attacks and hold all those responsible accountable. The perpetrators of these attacks must be investigated and those responsible must be held accountable. Anything less will set a new dangerous standard.

The Israeli army has increased its bombardment of Rafah, resulting in the deaths of many Palestinians. Al Jazeera, the only media outlet reporting on these incidents, has been banned from Israel. The West should take action to prevent further complicity in Israel's actions by imposing an arms embargo, sanctions, and divestments.

@FranceskAlbs - Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

Israeli army intensifies bombardment of Rafah, months after declaring it 'safe zone'. Last night it reportedly killed dozens of Palestinians. This morning it issued another mass evacuation (ergo: expulsion) order affecting hundreds of thousands of already displaced Palestinians. Meanwhile #AlJazeera - the only media company reporting on those massacres - has also been definitely banned from Israel. Is there any red line left that Israel cannot cross? The West must intervene and impose an immediate arms embargo, sanctions and divestments, unless it wants to risk being complicit in Israel's crimes in Gaza.

Speaker 0: To be honest, I've never seen anything like that in 15 years of study of armed infantry. The fact that our soldiers themselves, taking them and uploading them, it shows that there is an organizational culture systematically dehumanizing, Palestinians. Here we are talking about an open acknowledgement in front of cameras by the person uploading it, that torture has been inflicted on these detainees. We have seen, soldier joyfully destroying toy stores, pillaging, private property from family houses, or displaying their pictures with the lingerie, degrading approaches to Palestinian women. This is also a war crime. When we are talking about 1, 2, 20, 40 incidents, it makes sense to just talk about war crimes. However, here we are we are witnessing something different. By saying so, the target of the army enlarges and largest and largest until it covers the entirety of Gaza. This poses an existential threat to the international legal system. So we should be all mobilized here for defending these boundaries. These are minimum boundaries, below which there is only an abyss, and this is the abyss that has unfolded in these months in Gaza. Two things, arms embargo and sanctions. Political leaders that do not push for those are substantially declaring that the Palestinian population can be eliminated.
