Mineral balancing protocols combine applied ionomics and organotherapy to achieve optimal mineral harmony. Ionomics focuses on understanding the complete mineral nutrient system, prioritizing the Ionome over individual readings. By recognizing how elements interact, we can balance minerals effectively. Organotherapy utilizes animal gland extracts to address related health issues. We leverage this knowledge to assess hormone regulation of minerals, using specific ratios, like calcium/potassium, to guide recommendations for glandular products, facilitating balance in the mineral system.

Ionomics is a field that is charged with understanding the complete set of mineral nutrients and toxic elements in an organism (the Ionome). In mineral balancing this is especially relevant because our orientation is to not only measure the entire mineral system (or Ionome) but then to also balance it as well. We prioritize the Ionome over everything else including individual mineral or toxic metal readings. The way we achieve this goal of balancing the entire mineral system (or Ionome) is by understanding how all the elements interact with each other. If zinc is low, sodium is high, and potassium is low, we can use zinc supplementally to balance all three elements in the system, at once, as one example. This works in practice because zinc is antagonistic to sodium and synergistic with potassium. So this is why we call mineral balancing applied ionomics. We’re using findings or information from this field - which tells us how these elements interact in the mineral system - to manipulate the entire system into balance (at the tissue level) all at once. Then, let’s look at organotherapy and how we use knowledge from this field towards the application of protocols in mineral balancing. Organotherapy is the idea that one can use animal extracts of certain glands to treat diseases associated with that gland in human beings. Thyroid problems? Take desiccated thyroid glandular from animals. Adrenal insufficiency? Take adrenal glandular extract from animals. Most in the alt health space are familiar with this practice and many in naturopathic circles use this therapy to great effect. We in mineral balancing couldn’t agree more. So, how does this relate to mineral balancing and the application of our protocols to balance the entire mineral system (or Ionome)? In mineral balancing we recognize the critical fact that hormones, produced by glands in the endocrine system, regulate minerals at the tissue level. Adrenal hormones regulate both sodium and potassium at the tissue level. Aldosterone (adrenal hormone) regulates sodium and cortisol (adrenal hormone) regulates potassium. Similarly, we can use mineral ratios to assess the cellular affect of thyroid hormone and insulin because of the affect that minerals have on these hormones and corresponding endocrine glands. In mineral balancing, we use this knowledge to precisely assess adrenal and thyroid hormone status at the tissue or cellular level. This helps us understand, using specific mineral ratio parameters exactly how these glands and hormones are functioning. To give an example - the calcium/potassium ratio is the ratio we use to assess the cellular effect of thyroid hormone. When this ratio is high, it indicates suboptimal cellular effect of thyroid hormone. We can then use this knowledge around this specific thyroid parameter to recommend a thyroid glandular product that one might use in organotherapy to correct, balance and bring down this high ratio. When the Ca/K ratio is very low, we recommend the use of parathyroid glandular to help facilitate the balancing of this ratio in the other direction. So, you can see here, that the protocols we recommend in service of balancing the entire mineral system (or Ionome) are a hybrid blend of applied ionomics and organotherapy.
