I came across a video released by the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem that shows settlers harassing Palestinians in Hebron. The incident took place on Sunday morning when masked settlers brought cows onto a Palestinian family's land in Khirbet Wadi al-Rakhim. In the footage, one settler makes a disturbing reference to Sde Teiman prison, where a Palestinian inmate was recently gang-raped, and threatens the Palestinians with sexual violence, invoking a chilling phrase about "rape in the name of God."

The incident occurred on Sunday morning when several masked settlers arrived by vehicle, bringing a herd of cows onto the land of a Palestinian family in Khirbet Wadi al-Rakhim, located in the South Hebron Hills. In the video, one settler references the notorious Sde Teiman prison, where Israeli guards recently gang-raped a Palestinian inmate and threatens the Palestinians with “rape in the name of God.”

Speaker 0: I've heard and seen firsthand stories that will haunt me for the rest of my very privileged life. We really, really should not speak about living conditions there because none of them have living conditions. What they have, if you look closely, is survival conditions. It's so hard to understand forced displacement sometimes. But imagine 1 evening, receiving an evacuation order. You have 10 to 15 minutes to leave your building because it's going to be bombed. Your kids are sleeping in the room next door, you wake them up, they whine, probably. And you have to make split second decisions to decide what to pack, what's essential, and how do you define essential? So you take one last look at the room, and you say a permanent goodbye because you know it will be dust. This isn't a made up story. This is a story of Russia. She's from Gaza City. I met her in Rafa. She was the mother of 2 girls. And this is one of the best best case scenarios too. Because a lot of people aren't even warned before the attacks happen. It was the case in a neighborhood called over 2 weeks ago, where hundreds of people were killed and injured during a special operation to release hostages. The children who lost limbs that I met the next day at the nearby hospital, many of whom reminded me of my own 2 little toddlers, they were staring in the void, too shell shocked to produce a sound or a tear. Our observation, our direct observation on the ground every day is that there are no safe centimeters left in Gaza. There is nowhere you can be and be certain that there isn't going to be an attack on you that night.

Stacy Gilbert, a former senior US State Department official, said she was “shocked” to find out the State Department falsified a report earlier this month that absolved Israel of its responsibility for blocking the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. https://t.co/NmgaQNFCfu

Video Transcript AI Summary
In early February, we were tasked by the White House to assess countries based on adherence to international laws on weapons use and humanitarian aid. Despite working on the report, we were removed before its release. When it came out on May 10th, it surprisingly acknowledged Israel's potential violation of international laws with US weapons but also stated that Israel is not impeding humanitarian aid. This was unexpected and contradictory to previous actions by the White House.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: We were directed in early February by the White House to come up with a report that assesses different countries based on 2 things, primarily. 1 is their their adherence to, as Alex mentioned, international the kind of weapons you can use, about making the distinction between civilians and combatants. And basically, it's it's a body of laws that says, even in war, there are ways that you have to mitigate the consequences for civilians and soldiers. And we adhere to that. Israel adheres to it. It is it is international law. So this report was looking at adherence to that body of law, as well as whether countries allow humanitarian assistance. Debate was Israel. I was working on this report with many others. There were a handful of us who were very, very engaged in every sentence of that. But at some point, we were removed from that report, and it was moved up to a higher level to be written and edited and cleared. So I even though I had worked on this pretty heavily since this directive from the White House came out in early February, I did not know what was in the report until it came out. That said, I was actually hopeful that it would be honest report because earlier that week, the White House had made an announcement that it was going to pause the 2,000 pounds bombs that are have really caused disproportionate destruction in Gaza. So they had announced a pause on that, and I was actually pretty hopeful that maybe this report was going to be honest. So when the report came out on May 10th, late in the day, I read it, and I had to reread it because I couldn't believe what it said. It said very clearly. It it actually so on those two points, I was surprised on the point about Israel's adherence to international humanitarian law. For the first time I'm aware of, we admitted in very, very weak terms, but we admitted that Israel is likely using US weapons in violation of international humanitarian law. I was surprised. That was that was a step forward in admitting that. I was shocked, however, that it also went on to say that Israel it is our assessment that Israel is not blocking humanitarian assistance.

I have faced backlash for speaking out against Israel, being labeled a self-hating Jew. It's crucial to separate Jewish identity from Israeli government actions to combat antisemitism. Speaker 0: And you're one of those people that have kind of been at the at the receiving end of some of that negative attention. You know, there are profiles of you on pro Israeli websites that are accusing you of spreading hatred against Israel. Speaker 1: Yeah. That's a Speaker 0: lot to to to be able to take. Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, it's incredibly painful to like continuously be doing this work as a deeply engaged and committed Jewish person with, you know, 100 and thousands of other Jews who are also doing this because we love our community. We love ourselves. You know, they often call us self hating Jews. So it's always important to also say like, you know, I love myself as a Jewish person. And you know, we're doing it again like out of that deep commitment, out of a deep commitment to our own traditions and to a vision of a different future for our community. And I really think that right now, as these horrors are underway in Gaza, many of these groups have just like taken it a step too far. Mhmm. And we're seeing right now, you know, attacking some of the leading scholars of antisemitism and Jewish history and trying to keep them out of, you know, university task forces and, you know, smear campaigns against anybody who just doesn't tow this really hard line pro Israel position. And I mean, what could be more dangerous to Jewish people right now than lumping us all in with this genocidal campaign of the Israeli government? I mean, I hear all the time from people who see the film who are just so moved and so grateful to like know that there are so many of us, so many Jewish people who are speaking out against these horrors. I mean, at every major protest for a ceasefire, around the world, in cities where there are Jewish people, there are going to be Jews at those rallies. Speaker 0: Mhmm. Speaker 1: And, we've seen Jews turning out in record numbers, as part of the ceasefire movement. And I also see that as fighting antisemitism because it's publicly breaking this conflation between our community and the policies of the Israeli government. Mhmm. That if anything right now, we need more of that. We need people to understand that this is not being committed in the name of all Jews. 1st and foremost, the people who are most harmed by this campaign in Gaza are the Palestinian people. I mean Israel is decimating the Gaza Strip right now beyond anything that even I could have imagined that I would ever see even knowing the cruelty of the apartheid regime. This is we're in a new moment right now and they're doing it every single day saying they're doing this so that Jewish people in Israel and around the world can be safe. What could be more dangerous to Jewish people around the world than being associated with this genocidal campaign? I mean, I do not believe that killing almost 40,000 people now, displacing 2,000,000 people, like in what world does that make me safer as a Jewish person? In what world is anybody safer when a government can commit such heinous crimes with such impunity? And and the idea, I mean we're already seeing it. Like the, that this campaign is fueling, not just antisemitism but Islamophobia, right? And anti Arab sentiment all around the world. And and Jewish people and Muslims and Arabs around the world who have nothing to do with this are becoming very visible targets for people who already hate our communities, who already maybe, you know, want to inflame tensions against us or who want to commit violence against us. But now they, they have a so called excuse and they're using it. And so I feel very afraid for Jews around the world who are, going to receive, who are receiving the public, blowback from being associated with this campaign. And so I see speaking out against the Israeli government and being a visible Jew in this movement as also part of a way to keep my own community safe. And to say that, you know, not all of us are, we are not allowing ourselves to be conscripted into this. We want a world where perpetrators of war crimes are held accountable. We want a world in which all people can live safely in their homes. And that is both because of the lessons that we've taken from our own history and because of the world that we are fighting for today that we want for all people, not just for Jews.

If you look at the person who's in charge of operations on the ground in Gaza for UNRWA, It's about a 20 year US army veteran. Mhmm. You can be sure he is not in cahoots, with Hamas. Netanyahu has wanted to get rid of UNRA since at least 2017. That's been his goal, not just in Gaza, but also in the other places you talked about. And if you get rid of UNRA in Gaza today, it is the primary distribution system for food and aid. So if you cut off funding for UNRA in Gaza entirely, it means more people will starve, more people won't get the medical assistance they need, and so it would be a huge mistake, to cut them off.

This was widely known, but the world allowed it to happen as compensation for the Holocaust or to correct a bigger injustice. Expulsions began in 1948, with 36 villages emptied, followed by 300,000 Palestinians during the 1967 war. Since then, over half a million Palestinians have been expelled from the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Recent ethnic cleansing operations have occurred in East Jerusalem, Hebron, and the Jordan Valley. Since 1967 until today, Israel expelled more than half a 1000000 Palestinians from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. And as just before the service of October, ethnic cleansing operations were taking place in East Jerusalem, The south of Hebron and the Jordan Valley. So so expelling Palestinian other is either in small numbers or in large numbers as being done now in the Gaza Strip is part of what Israel thinks is a legitimate arsenal of maintaining the viability of a Jewish
