That's more than 5,000,000,000 shots given around the world so far and it sounds like a major accomplishment and, in many ways, it is. But there is a huge disparity between who can and cannot access the vaccine.
Less than 2% of people in the Developing World have received a single dose at this point. And many of the healthcare workers are still not vaccinated. We cannot move forward together unless we address this imbalance as one. At the same time, Families around the world are being overwhelmed by mass scale misinformation across news media and social media where those who pedal in lies and fear are creating vaccine hesitancy which in turn is dividing communities and eroding trust. This is a system we need to break if we are to overcome COVID nineteen and the risk of new variants.

Speaker 0: Of all the things that are out there, what could cause an excess in a single year of 10,000,000 deaths? Now clearly, a a big war could and a pandemic natural or or created by bioterror. The natural pandemic, the last gigantic one, was a 100 years ago. We are healthier today, but the speed of travel and, therefore, the speed of global spread, that works against us. But In some ways, the bioterror thing, scares me the most.
All it takes is 1 small terrorism group. You know, those groups have used things like anthrax that are nonhuman to human transmissible. And as yet, thank goodness, they've never gotten been able to build or get their hands on a nuclear weapon. Are you nervous about your own life and what could happen? This thing will get a lot of countries before it it gets to the US, but even the US has to, think about its global health security.
It's a government thing to decide, okay, this is a problem. How do you move resources around? How do you allocate the the scarce supplies. You know, when an epidemic hits, governments having been prepared in advance and going through simulations, that will help them make the decisions that are only in their hands.
