A single mom named Ramona, who is one of the COVID patients hospitalized in Australia, shared her story to raise awareness about the dangers of the virus. However, some people on social media doubted the authenticity of the video, claiming that the patients were paid actors. One TikToker investigated and found that Ramona was not actually a patient at Concord Hospital. The TikTok video gained significant views before being removed.
Speaker 0: And this is for them. This had a really huge impact on your family. You you're not able to look after your kids at the moment. I haven't been working. Like, I'm a single mom.
It's not easy. Hello, everybody. Welcome to MediaWatch. And that was single mom, Ramona, one of 700 COVID patients hospitalized in Australia at the end of last month, who, Along with 2 others in Sydney's Concord Hospital was keen to warn people of the dangers of COVID by sharing heartbreaking stories about their illness from their hospital beds. So please get vaccinated.
I wish I'd go before it.
Speaker 1: Shortness and breath. Something had taken the the lens. It was it was harsh.
Speaker 0: Footage of those patients identified only by their first names was recorded by doctor Lucy Morgan released by New South Wales Health and made it onto all the major networks, including ABC News, 10 News First, And 7 news. But soon, people on social media were wondering if the New South Wales health video was actually a fake. And among the skeptics was former One Nation senator Rod Cullerton, whose post received thousands of likes, and another former senator David Lionhelm. And one intrepid TikToker who went digging was able to reveal I found all 3 actors. Now how can this be coincidental?
Yes. All 3, including Ramona, were supposedly paid crisis actors who did not have COVID at all. And the Mala internet sleuth then set out to prove it, bringing Concord Hospital to show that Ramona Koury was not a patient there.
Speaker 1: Hello. Is this Concord Hospital? Yes. Can I help you? Hi.
It's John Curry. I'm just, looking for my wife. Hey, Ramona Churi. I just don't see anyone without surname.
Speaker 0: Well, bingo. That video, which TikTok only removed today, had nearly 800,000 views.
