A vaccine company registered to a PO Box — and run by two former Biden staffers — got $28 million in the final months of the Biden admin, and that seems fishy.   I’ve asked @SecKennedy to get the American people answers and end the practice of government slush funds! https://t.co/2gahwCBMg5

USAID did everything possible to stop me from finding out where tax dollars were going. https://t.co/NYzKGzz3yF

Video Transcript AI Summary
I have been investigating USAID's humanitarian aid expenditures related to the war in Ukraine for several years. My team faced significant obstruction and misinformation from USAID, which hindered our access to records detailing taxpayer money usage. Partnering with Representative Mike McCall, we initiated a congressional investigation, but USAID only provided limited data. Our findings revealed excessive spending by USAID with minimal data-driven results. Notably, funds were directed to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for dangerous coronaviruses, and there were expenditures for pottery classes in Morocco and tourism in Lebanon, despite State Department travel warnings.

Speaker 0: I have been on USAID's case for years now, going back several years where I was trying to investigate the expenditures for humanitarian aid primarily when it came to the war in Ukraine. And what my team and I encountered was absolute obstruction and lies coming out of USAID. They did everything possible to stop me from accessing their records to understand where our taxpayer money was going. I eventually partnered with, representative Mike McCall in the house, and we started a formal congressional investigation. And even after that, they really pushed back, only allowed us access to a small amount of data. But what we found was extreme expenditures on the part of USAID with very little data driven results. We have seen money funded, in the Wuhan Institute of Virology through dollars steered by USAID on dangerous coronaviruses. We saw how that turned out. We've seen funding going to Morocco for pottery classes, tourism in Lebanon of all places, even when the state department was advising against travel. I could go on and on and on.

We had a productive discussion about USAID, an issue I've focused on for years in the Senate. USAID has consistently obstructed my congressional oversight efforts. I shared examples of waste within the organization during a recent conversation on X Spaces with Elon. It's crucial that we scrutinize every dollar spent there, and I'm pleased to see a shift in oversight to the State Department.

Speaker 0: We had an excellent discussion about USAID last night, and this is an issue I have focused on for years now with my squeal work in the United States Senate. A USAID has stonewalled me at every opportunity in exercising my congressional oversight. So I gave examples of that last night on x spaces with Elon. We talked about the waste that we have found within the organization and so, yes. Do we need to scrutinize every last dollar going through there? Absolutely, we do and I'm glad to see that we're moving it to the state department.

reSee.it AI Summary
I've been highlighting the reckless spending of USAID, from funding Moroccan pottery classes to extravagant trips for models during the Ukraine conflict. They've wasted millions on tourism promotions in Lebanon, despite safety warnings, and funneled nearly $1 million into coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute. Their efforts in Afghanistan to reduce opium cultivation backfired, and over $9 million meant for Syrian aid ended up with terrorists. It's time for accountability and transparency in how taxpayer dollars are spent.

@SenJoniErnst - Joni Ernst

🧵From funneling tax dollars to risky research in Wuhan to sending Ukrainians to Paris Fashion Week, USAID is one of the worst offenders of waste in Washington… all around the world. 🌎 This is why @POTUS, @DOGE, and @elonmusk are ending the nonsense. 👇

@SenJoniErnst - Joni Ernst

Despite the fact that Moroccans have been making pottery for thousands of years, USAID spent more than $2 million for Moroccan pottery classes and promotion. The idea clearly wasn't fully formed, because the translator they hired didn't even speak English.

@SenJoniErnst - Joni Ernst

USAID spends money like it’s going out of fashion, literally.  Trade assistance to Ukraine paid for models and designers to take trips to New York City, London Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, and South by Southwest in Austin.

@SenJoniErnst - Joni Ernst

Vacations were top of mind clearly for USAID. The agency spent $2 million promoting tourism to Lebanon, a nation the State Department warns against traveling to “due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, unexploded landmines, and the risk of armed conflict.”

@SenJoniErnst - Joni Ernst

If you think that is bad, it gets much worse. USAID funneled nearly $1 million into batty research on coronaviruses at China’s infamous Wuhan Institute of Virology, which the CIA admits was the likely source of COVID-19.

@SenJoniErnst - Joni Ernst

During the height of the war in Afghanistan, USAID spent millions of dollars to help Afghans grow crops instead of opium. The results: opium poppy cultivation across the country nearly doubled, according to the UN.

@SenJoniErnst - Joni Ernst

USAID asked, “Can you tell me how to get how to get to Sesame Street?” and ended up in Iraq. USAID authorized a whopping $20 million to create a Sesame Street in Iraq.

@SenJoniErnst - Joni Ernst

USAID has long been a reckless, out-of-control, unaccountable rogue agency.

@SenJoniErnst - Joni Ernst

More than $9 million of USAID’s “humanitarian aid” intended to feed civilians in Syria ended up in the hands of violent terrorists, including an affiliate of Al Qaeda in Iraq.

@SenJoniErnst - Joni Ernst

USAID has failed to put the American people first and routinely tried to cloak its actions in secrecy. Those days are over. @DOGE is making the agency accountable to taxpayers for every cent of tax dollars being sent overseas to stop the wasteful and dangerous spending.

Today, folks in Iowa and across the country are honoring the life of George Floyd. It’s unfortunate that his death was the catalyst for talks that needed to happen a very long time ago, but I’m committed to working together, and listening to folks, to find solutions. https://t.co/FNZ1y1NARl

Today, many are honoring George Floyd and reflecting on the tragic loss of his life, which sparked essential conversations about racial injustice. It's a crucial moment to unite and discuss the experiences of people of color in the U.S. I recently had a meaningful conversation with Senator Tim Scott about how we can contribute positively to addressing these issues. Upcoming, I will meet with Chaplain Barry Black, who provides daily prayers and leadership. I also want to highlight Will Keeps, a hip-hop artist in Des Moines, whose nonprofit helps underprivileged children navigate challenges related to race and injustice. His organization exemplifies the solutions we need to address inequality in our communities. I look forward to continuing this important dialogue. Thank you.

Speaker 0: Today, many people across the United States are honoring the life of George Floyd. And so I would just encourage everybody to take pause and really reflect upon the loss of his life and recognize that it was taken way too soon. And it is very unfortunate that his death was the catalyst for talks that needed to happen a very long time ago. So I think it is a great time for us to reflect upon the life and the loss of George Floyd and understand the significance of moving forward and having really positive encouraging talks about what it is to be a person of color across the United States. And so I'm so thankful for the great conversation that we just had with senator Tim Scott. And a way that we can move forward and talk about racial injustice and how we can solve it and be part of the solution not part of the problem. It is a really great time for us to come together and do that. So upcoming events I'll be sitting down with Chaplain Barry Black who not only is a wonderful veteran of the United States Navy, but also serves as our senate chaplain and provides prayer for us every single day just to understand his leadership opportunities and where we can go in the future. I also wanna give a shout out to a gentleman I've worked with not just since the death of George Floyd, but for many years now, a rapper hip hop artist in Des Moines by the name of Will Keeps. Will has a wonderful non profit organization that has worked with underprivileged children in the Des Moines metro area, helping them overcome the challenges of race and injustice. Mister Will Keeps' organization starts right here is exactly the type of organization that we should look to to find those types of solutions of inequality, throughout our communities. So I look forward to tackling this issue, continuing a conversation, and hopefully, it's not one that we easily forget. Thank you.

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswami will conduct interviews in later rounds. Senator Joni Ernst is leading the Senate Doge caucus and has presented President-elect Trump with a list of potential cuts totaling $1 trillion. Proposed measures include consolidating vacant government office space, collecting overdue taxes from IRS employees, reclaiming pandemic relief funds misused by fraudsters, and ending funding for what Ernst deems unnecessary science projects, like a study involving shrimp on treadmills. This represents immediate opportunities for cost-saving.

Speaker 0: The help wanted sign is up at Doge. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswami's teams are screening candidates with backgrounds in politics, law, and technology interested in joining the Department of Government Efficiency. The presidential panel is aimed at eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. Fox is told in later rounds, the pair will personally conduct interviews. Speaker 1: There's a lot right there that we can do immediately on day 1. Speaker 0: In the meantime, senator Joni Ernst is leading the senate Doge caucus. She hand delivered to president-elect Trump a list of areas where the panel could make a $1,000,000,000,000 in cuts to federal spending. It includes consolidating government building office space since so much of it is sitting vacant, collecting taxes from IRS employees and contractors who have overdue balances, clawing back pandemic relief money that went to crooks, and ending funding for what Ernst calls silly science projects such as this study, which put shrimp on a tiny treadmill. Speaker 1: This is the low hanging fruit that we can hand right over to Vivek Ramaswami and Elon Mas.
