The Kaua'i 'ö'ò was a small bird that once thrived on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, feeding on nectar, fruits, and invertebrates. Both males and females were known for their melodious, flute-like harmonies. However, the species met a tragic end due to deforestation, mosquito-borne diseases, and the introduction of predators like rats, pigs, and mongooses to the island. The final blows came from hurricanes Iwa in 1982 and Iniki in 1992, which devastated most of the island's trees, preventing the construction of nests.
