A user emphasized their support for free speech, clarifying that Community Notes provides context without censoring posts. They acknowledged reports of inauthentic coordination and death threats, stating these violations are taken seriously and are under investigation. They clarified their role and denied knowing certain accounts. Another user criticized a post for being misleading and accused others of bullying. A third user countered, claiming the original poster has been covering for another account for years, asserting a connection between them.

First off: we are pro free-speech. Community Notes never censors any posts -- notes provide context only (we don't directly affect visibility or ranking of the original post). Thank you for reporting possible inauthentic coordination across accounts and death threats (which would both be terms of service violations). We take both of those very seriously and have been investigating since even before you called this out. For background info: we've rolled out multiple anti-manipulation improvements recently e.g. https://t.co/CP7d4xO1hy, https://t.co/ICOxgxbpn3, https://t.co/E4gHUEEcJy, and another improvement last year to cap note writing limits for low-quality authors directly in response to feedback like this https://t.co/8JPUWsMlQr. Just to clarify: 1) I am not the overall lead for Community Notes 2) I am not "Enterprising Desert Raven", nor do I know them, or any of the other accounts that may be coordinating together with "EDR" I've now unblocked you and others to try to have a productive conversation here. Why did I originally block you and others yesterday? I had replied to a post saying that obviously death threats are not ok, which got twisted into accusations that I tolerate death threats. I don't tolerate them! I checked, and the death threat in question seems to not exist (if it was real and not a fake screenshot, please share the noteId or tweetId in question if you have any info about it).

@_jaybaxter_ the og post is clearly engagement farming, but what pisses me off the most is that most of the post is entirely made up and has nothing to do with jay. @_jaybaxter_ is one of the most-loved engs at the company, go find someone else to bully

@veggie_eric @_jaybaxter_ This is not accurate. Jay Baxter has been covering for Ryan aka Enterprising Desert Raven for at least 2 years. He *does* in fact know him. That’s a fact.

@_jaybaxter_ You claim you were “investigating” before we raised the issue, but then say the death threat “seems to not exist”? If it didn’t exist, what exactly were you investigating? You can’t have it both ways. That’s not transparency, that’s damage control.

@_jaybaxter_ - Jay Baxter

I was obviously trying to find it and see what was going on. Please engage in better faith than that. Which post was the death threat on? (the screenshot you shared doesn't show what post it's on). That info would help figure out if this note was real and if so, what happened to it

@goddeketal - Dr. Simon Goddek

@_jaybaxter_ It was on the post below and got deleted after Liz first called it out last fall. I (and many others) saw the Community Note with our own eyes. I suppose you can verify it existed, and surely are be able to track who wrote it and who deleted it!? https://t.co/Cr7HvFOLoU

Thanks, I had assumed you were talking about something more recent. To comply with GDPR and other data protection laws, we actually don't retain the text of deleted notes longer than 21 days, so I can't verify anymore. I can confirm that death threats are against TOS and if something like that was posted it'd be a violation though

I want to clarify that we have taken significant actions and are continuing our investigation. I agree that there are suspicious elements, and similar sources or notes don't imply the same authorship. Additionally, we've implemented several anti-manipulation improvements over the past year based on feedback, including one that you previously responded to positively.

@_jaybaxter_ - Jay Baxter

>So, why are you not taking action and investigating? Actually we have taken many actions, and we are investigating further, as I said in my previous post. I agree something definitely looks fishy here. Using the same sources or writing similar notes doesn't mean it's the same person necessarily! By the way, we did launch multiple anti-manipulation improvements in the past year in response to feedback like what you raised, as I mentioned in this post: https://t.co/YRlvVGlnrz E.g. check out this screenshot of a past launch (which you actually replied to positively!)

Jay, you’re blatantly dodging the core issue in my post—manipulation of Community Notes. I laid it all out—with receipts— that Enterprising Desert Raven operates at least six sock puppet accounts, weaponizing them to mass-note any voice he disagrees with. The real number is likely 16 or more, as I’ve clearly laid out in my post. You also ignored the most damning evidence of all: four Community Notes on the same post, in which 3 of the 4 cite the exact sources. That doesn’t happen by chance. And the 4th is Resplendant Cedar Osprey, which I proved is linked to Enterprising Desert Raven. So, why are you not taking action and investigating? Are we really supposed to accept that one man can command a sock puppet army of 16+ Community Note accounts to dictate the “truth,” while the rest of us get just one? Stop sidestepping the real issue. You’ve heard complaints about this for over a year—and still, nothing has been done about “Enterprising Desert Raven.” What exactly is stopping you from taking action?

I want to clarify that I support free speech and that Community Notes does not censor posts; we only provide context. I appreciate reports of inauthentic coordination and death threats, which we take seriously and have been investigating. We've implemented several anti-manipulation improvements recently. To clarify, I am not the lead for Community Notes, nor do I know "Enterprising Desert Raven." I've unblocked you to foster a productive conversation, as my previous comments were misinterpreted. I do not tolerate death threats and would like more information if they were reported.
