The situation in Palestine is a humanitarian nightmare, with blame placed on Netanyahu and right-wing extremists. Bibi's actions harm Israel and inflame divisions. He let down the people of Israel and undermined the idea of a Palestinian state. His corruption harms Israel and fuels antisemitism. Hamas's capture of Palestinian society should not be blamed on Palestinians. The tragedy in Palestine could happen anywhere, including the US. Hamas is a terrorist organization, but Netanyahu's government extremism should be considered in reporting. The current response is disproportionate, and Netanyahu's management should not be shielded.

I try my best not to weigh in on topics that I’m not well versed on, and don’t weigh in on divisive, emerging events until I can share what I believe is reliable info. The same goes for the Palestine protests. If anyone cares about my personal views, I will say this much. /1

What is happening in Gaza is a humanitarian nightmare. I blame Netanyahu, Likud, and the right wing extremists who control the government. They are Israel’s Trump and MAGA. Bibi is corrupt. His actions harm Israel on the world stage. An authoritarian who inflames divisions. /2

I believe Bibi let the people of Israel down. He shuffled funds to Hamas to keep Gaza & the West Bank divided b/c he wants to undermine the very idea that Palestinians should have their own state. He pulled resources to help extremists push more settlements, ensuring a 10/7. /3

As a corrupt authoritarian he cannot admit his faults or errors. He doubles down and will always make things worse. He cannot remain in power. He harms Israel and, unfortunately, also inflames toxicity toward Jews across the world every day (a tragic reality of antisemitism). /4

The nightmare facing Palestinians is indescribable. Hamas used churches and faith based schools and hospitals to capture their society, convincing Palestinians to give them power. That was it. Democracy stopped existing in Palestine. Don’t blame Palestinians for this. /4

Another tragic reality is that what happened in Palestine could happen anywhere. In the U.S., we are facing a militant religious movement not entirely unlike the one that captured Palestine’s democratic institutions. I hope people will reflect on this. That said… /5

Hamas is a terrorist organization. After Oct. 7, Israel had (& has) every right to pursue and eradicate Hamas. Imagine what Israeli mothers and daughters went through that day. Think about it. But from the beginning, I was concerned about Bibi. Reminded of 9/11 Islamophobia. /6

Reporting on Hamas’s deadly attack and invasion, and on Israel’s response, should include context about the extremism of Netanyahu’s government, and draw a distinction between supporting Israel versus giving a blank check to Netanyahu. They aren’t the same thing. https://t.co/tTHcu6ds3x

What we are witnessing today is a disproportionate response by any reasonable measure, and Netanyahu’s management of this should not be shielded from that or explained away. Yes Hamas uses schools, hospitals; puts innocent Palestinians on the firing line. Does that justify… /7
