Speaker 0: In July 2020, I left Hong Kong to seek asylum in the US, and eventually became the 1st Hong Kong activist to to secure asylum in the US based on evidence persecution by the CCP. It has then become certain that I will no longer be able to return to Hong Kong, where I was born raised. And a day like yesterday will come to me eventually. Through my decade long activism, I have witnessed and experienced of the CCP's harassment and intimidation of people who hold different views of them. This is not just with fellow Hong Kongers, but also Tibetans, Uighurs, and other Chinese dissidents, all of whom are targeted simply for supporting democracy and freedom, and speaking up for their rights. It is nevertheless what I and many of the people who have been charged charged with violating the national security law have been doing in Hong Kong and abroad. To call for freedom for our beloved city Hong Kong, but So for my fellow Hong Kongers and our dear friends among the 1,000 who are currently being held in prison for doing that exact same thing.
