Ozempic doesn't just eat fat. It eats muscle too. Your 🫀 is a muscle. If you are considering this drug, ask your doctor, "what will we do to protect my heart tissue while I am taking this drug?" (And if you get a good answer back, let me know!)

/ I urge patients to get a CAC scan at 40. But I realize many people don't understand what this entails. I want to demystify some common questions so you can feel more confident about booking a test. Let’s get started.

/ A CAC is an imaging test for your heart. It’s designed to spot calcium deposits, which increase your risks for heart disease. They can also predict cardiovascular disease for asymptomatic individuals. It’s one of the best tests to identify the early stages of heart disease

/ I tell patients to schedule their first CAC at 40, especially if they’re male. You may want to get a CAC scan earlier than 40 if: -You have a family history of heart disease -You have existing risk factors like hypertension or diabetes -You smoke or have smoked in the past

/ Most patients should schedule CAC scans every three to five years. If your score is 0 you want to monitor for the earliest signs of disease. If your score is not 0, the change in score over time is another important predictor of risk.

/ CAC scans require physician referral, so you can talk to your doctor about ordering a test. That said, it may be difficult to get your doctor onboard. If they refuse to order a CAC, fire them and get a new doctor.

/ A CAC scan is a lot like an x-ray and only takes around 10 to 30 minutes to complete. You can walk and drive normally post-procedure, and you don't have to fast like with blood work. Expect to receive your CAC score within two to three days or sooner.

/ Coronary calcium score guidelines are relatively straightforward: -the lower your score, the lower your risk -the higher your score, the higher your risk. If your score isn't a zero, you need to take immediate action.

/ I’ve seen many CAC scores improve with a focus on metabolic health. If you received a number over 0, I recommend: -Eating only whole, real foods -Carving out 30 minutes per day for physical exercise -Getting enough sleep every night -Finding ways to reduce chronic stress

/ A CAC is a phenomenal way to get clarity about your health. However, it can be difficult to implement lifestyle changes on your own. My Elite Metabolic Health Coaching program can provide you with a more supportive environment. https://ifixhearts.com/elite/
