I trace the sequence from a 2017 DARPA Defuse idea to Fauci-funded NIAID work, centering on Baric, Daszak, Shi, and their networks. I note DARPA invites Shi, Baric joins, and an implied supply chain for a Covid approach. I cover GoF language, Defuse drafts, R01 renewals, WIV data sharing, and NIAID grants rooted in barcoded bat coronaviruses, with labs in UNC, Shi’s BSL2, and Wang/Dan i work. I finish with a 2020 genome publication and resignations.

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

How Fauci, Daszak & Baric blew up the world, lied under oath, and got away with it In 2017, Jim Gimlett of DARPA told Daszak he wanted to vaccinate Chinese bats in Chinese caves Daszak responded, "Interesting idea..."🧵

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

DARPA had invited Shi Zhengli to Washington, D.C. Shi and Daszak then invited Baric to join their DARPA Defuse team, because they needed his expertise in "manipulating coronaviruses" Baric replied, "Marvelous opportunity. Count me in."

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Baric apparently invited Vincent Munster of RML to join the DARPA Defuse team This pre-DARPA Defuse draft shows the eventual supply chain for creating Covid: Baric > Munster > Linfa Wang > WIV

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Munster left the Defuse team and joined Columbia's Ian Lipkin & Angie Rasmussen for a self-spreading Lassa vax They all later lost, but Munster won 2 DARPA projects with MSU and UC Davis https://www.darpa.mil/news/2019/medical-preparedness

A New Layer of Medical Preparedness to Combat Emerging Infectious Disease darpa.mil

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Baric's 1st draft of DARPA Defuse was published by @emilyakopp in 2024 Baric's 2nd draft was even more incriminating because he is obsessed with inserting an FCS at the S1/S2 border (667), like SARS2 @gdemaneuf uploaded 1st draft (left) and 2nd (right) https://draftable.com/compare/etsiSgBltbIi

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Baric's was explicit, Shi's BSL2 plays with safe pseudotypes, but Baric creates unsafe chimeras (combo of 2 or more viruses, like SARS2) Baric claims his technology is "potentially proprietary" Peng Zhou doesn't like it, foreshadowing "target might be human but not bats"

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Baric would "provide" Shi and Linfa Wang his patented chimera, HKU3-Smix, which is a precursor to SARS-CoV-2

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Shi only responded once to all the DARPA Defuse draft emails, providing Daszak a manhour budget (~10% of budget) Peng Zhou is Linfa's bat immunology protege, who only asked a few questions Daszak bid max $14.2M amount

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Cross-reference Baric's 2018 TLR and RLR bat vax research with COVID-19 symptoms

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Baric provided DARPA with the dual-use language: We are experimenting with bat viruses, not human viruses, so no GoF concerns (notice the March 23, 2018 email and section TA1 & TA2, since it's important later)

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

DARPA said they were too risky and too expensive, so Luke Hamel of EcoHealth told the Defuse team, "We will continue to look for other sources of funding to pursue" Dani Anderson replied, "Hopefully we have a chance to work together in the future"

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

All DARPA bids were broken into 2 major parts: Technical Area 1 and 2, or TA1 and TA2 TA1 = collect in-country bat samples TA2 = create countermeasures (i.e. bat vax or targeted immune boosting) https://web.archive.org/web/20181201030626/https://www.darpa.mil/attachments/PREEMPTOverview.pdf

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

On October 21, 2018, the rejected DARPA team met at the Wuhan Institute of Virology the next day, Baric emailed Daszak with the idea of recycling the rejected TA1 bid into a NIAID R01 grant Baric even used the March 2018 DARPA Defuse email chain to continue their NIAID plans

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Daszak’s Mandarin-speaking assistant, Hongying Li, was explicit in her English: We are recycling DARPA text They add Baric to the 2018 R01 Wuhan grant renewal and “unpublished results from WIV” Why Baric? He wins grants from NIAID, which are comfortable with his GoF research

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Daszak used Shi's 2018 progress report as a R01 grant renewal format. Baric added the highlighted R01 text: HKU3-Smix from DARPA Defuse is now HKU3r-CoV in NIAID. Both have 25% different spikes from SARS1, like SARS2.

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Baric added his human airway epithelial (HAE) cells Shi used Vero cells, which delete FCS, while Baric used HAE cells that preserve it. Baric could have advised labs to passage SARS2 on Vero cells — converting his contagious animal vaccine into an attenuated human one.

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Did Daszak share RaTG13 from Shi to Baric for the new 2R01 NIAID grant? Yes Daszak's Dec 2018 notes, "Just got data (from WIV) drip feeding (2b) sequences as they become available, starting with the ones Ralph's interested in first" that's ~25% different spikes, like RaTG13

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Shi said she never isolated RaTG13, but Baric could resurrect it based on an emailed sequence https://www.science.org/pb-assets/PDF/News%20PDFs/Shi%20Zhengli%20Q&A-1630433861.pdf

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

In 2018, EcoHealth asked Shi for unpublished coronavirus samples from her WIV database. Shi replied yes, but her WIV database release would become part of a “big plan for our next paper.” that was Latinne et al

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

@tony_vandongen Daszak testified there was a “data dump” of sequences from Shi in November 2018

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Like DARPA Defuse, Baric made sure the risky work was at UNC, not the WIV. And Baric wrote the GoF workaround for NIAID: these are bat SARSr-CoV and not select agents They won in 2019, meaning DARPA Defuse (TA1) is a go under Fauci's funding from NIAID

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

this was the R01 grant that Trump later canceled

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Baric's inclusion in this R01 grant was so odd that it came up in his 2024 testimony "my role was to study a couple of the viruses that the WIV found that they were willing to share with me."

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

@Baric_Lab has now perjured himself

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

@Baric_Lab @PeterDaszak also perjured himself

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

In June 2019, Baric and Daszak then recycled DARPA Defuse TA2 text into Fauci's U01AI151797 CREID grant Munster and RML are part of this NIAID grant

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Daszak divied up the U01 NIAID bid tasks. Linfa Wang, Dani Anderson, Amy Sims, and Ralph Baric were the primary scientists from TA2 in DARPA Defuse Dani replied, "I know we took a lot of text from our (DARPA Defuse) grant proposal"

@jhas5 - Jim Haslam

Weeks later, Linfa Wang and Dani Anderson's Duke cell phones were at the locked-down Wuhan BSL4 https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/report-says-cellphone-data-suggests-october-shutdown-wuhan-lab-experts-n1202716

The US government is exploring the use of biodefense aerosols, including incapacitating agents delivered via drone for special forces. There are also reports of aerosolized Ebola being tested on monkeys from a drone. SEB, a banned bioweapon agent, is being used for an antibody response in bats, potentially as a bat vaccine. It is debated whether SEB is in the spike of SARS2. SEB stabilizes an aerosol bat vaccine, allowing for shipping via drone and inhalation of small amounts in a bat lung. SEB papers were hot in 2019, with Fort Detrick and Israeli labs conducting research.

Video Transcript AI Summary
The speaker discusses the need for an effective incapacitating agent that can be deployed locally using drones or aerosol delivery technology. They emphasize the preference for antibody and drug therapeutics over vaccines. The ideal scenario involves using an incapacitating agent that can be inhaled and gives encephalitis, while having a mitigation strategy for their forces that lasts for about a month. This would allow them to move into the field of operation without worrying about the enemy. The speaker also mentions the classified nature of this technology and believes there is more happening than what is publicly known.

Speaker 0: So that's good, but the other mission space is SOCOM. And, ideally, you wanna a a quite effective incapacitating agent that can be locally deployed with a drone or or some aerosol delivery technology and increasingly it's all about drones. So you wanna be able to do a regional deployment of an incapacitating agent and to have a mitigation available for, your SOCOM team that can parachute into that whether it's a drug or an antibody or vaccine. Vaccines are the least desirable of those. Antibody and drug therapeutics are preferred, particularly antibody therapies. And, so that's the the ideal is that you have a a tandem of a highly incapacitating agent that gives somebody encephalitis or something like that and is inhalable. So it's, you know, nasopharyngeal uptake and, and your forces have a mitigation strategy that they can take, that will last for a month or so, and then they can move into that field of operation and, not have to worry about the bad guys jumping them, because they're all gonna be so sick. That's that's the scenario that I hear play out. Speaker 1: And And that makes a lot of sense. And that would also then make hold water, I guess, in the perspective that if something went wrong and they had to extend their deployment operation there, that their time window of the effectiveness of the treatment mitigation strategy Would be beyond, the potential for things to go wrong with the extended Speaker 0: The way they've said it to me was, they wanna be able to drop in into the theater with the, mitigation on board. And by the time they're back with their wives, it's washed out of their system. Speaker 1: Yeah. Makes sense. Speaker 0: That's why it's dual use technology, and that's why it's classified, and that's why it drops into the black budgets. And, so there's I I believe that there's a lot more going on than we have visibility to. What's fascinating is it they would be using a surrogate to do this, but, it fits within the

Immunological Control of Viral Infections in Bats and the Emergence of Viruses Highly Pathogenic to Humans Bats are reservoir hosts of many important viruses that cause substantial disease in humans, including coronaviruses, filoviruses, lyssaviruses and henipaviruses. The viruses do not appear to cause disease in the reservoir bats, thus an explanation for the dichotomous outcomes of infections of humans and bat reservoirs remains to be determined. Bats appear to have a few unusual features that may account for these differences, including evidence of constitutive interferon (IFN) activation and greater combinatorial diversity in immunoglobulin genes that do not undergo substantial affinity maturation. We propose these features may, in part, account for why bats can host these viruses without disease, and how they may contribute to the highly pathogenic nature of bat-borne viruses after spillover into humans. Because of the constitutive IFN activity, bat-borne viruses may be shed at low levels from bat cells. With large naïve antibody repertoires, bats may control the limited virus replication without the need for rapid affinity maturation, and this may explain why bats typically have low antibody titers to viruses. However, because bat viruses have evolved in high IFN environments, they have enhanced countermeasures against the IFN response. Thus, upon infection of human cells, where the IFN response is not constitutive, the viruses overwhelm the IFN response, leading to abundant virus replication and pathology. frontiersin.org

Purification and Characterisation of Immunoglobulins from the Australian Black Flying Fox (Pteropus alecto) Using Anti-Fab Affinity Chromatography Reveals the Low Abundance of IgA There is now an overwhelming body of evidence that implicates bats in the dissemination of a long list of emerging and re-emerging viral agents, often causing illnesses or death in both animals and humans. Despite this, there is a paucity of information regarding the immunological mechanisms by which bats coexist with highly pathogenic viruses. Immunoglobulins are major components of the adaptive immune system. Early studies found bats may have quantitatively lower antibody responses to model antigens compared to conventional laboratory animals. To further understand the antibody response of bats, the present study purified and characterised the major immunoglobulin classes from healthy black flying foxes, Pteropus alecto. We employed a novel strategy, where IgG was initially purified and used to generate anti-Fab specific antibodies. Immobilised anti-Fab specific antibodies were then used to capture other immunoglobulins from IgG depleted serum. While high quantities of IgM were successfully isolated from serum, IgA was not. Only trace quantities of IgA were detected in the serum by mass spectrometry. Immobilised ligands specific to IgA (Jacalin, Peptide M and staphylococcal superantigen-like protein) also failed to capture P. alecto IgA from serum. IgM was the second most abundant serum antibody after IgG. A survey of mucosal secretions found IgG was the dominant antibody class rather than IgA. Our study demonstrates healthy P. alecto bats have markedly less serum IgA than expected. Higher quantities of IgG in mucosal secretions may be compensation for this low abundance or lack of IgA. Knowledge and reagents developed within this study can be used in the future to examine class-specific antibody response within this important viral host. journals.plos.org

Staphylococcal Superantigens: Pyrogenic Toxins Induce Toxic Shock Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) and related superantigenic toxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus are potent activators of the immune system. These protein toxins bind to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II molecules and specific Vβ regions of T-cell receptors (TCRs), resulting in the activation of both monocytes/macrophages and T lymphocytes. The bridging of TCRs with MHC class II molecules by superantigens triggers an early “cytokine storm” and massive polyclonal T-cell proliferation. Proinflammatory cytokines, tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin 1 (IL-1), IL-2, interferon γ (IFNγ), and macrophage chemoattractant protein 1 elicit fever, inflammation, multiple organ injury, hypotension, and lethal shock. Upon MHC/TCR ligation, superantigens induce signaling pathways, including mitogen-activated protein kinase cascades and cytokine receptor signaling, which results in NFκB activation and the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/mammalian target of rapamycin pathways. In addition, gene profiling studies have revealed the essential roles of innate antimicrobial defense genes in the pathogenesis of SEB. The genes expressed in a murine model of SEB-induced shock include intracellular DNA/RNA sensors, apoptosis/DNA damage-related molecules, endoplasmic reticulum/mitochondrial stress responses, immunoproteasome components, and IFN-stimulated genes. This review focuses on the signaling pathways induced by superantigens that lead to the activation of inflammation and damage response genes. The induction of these damage response genes provides evidence that SEB induces danger signals in host cells, resulting in multiorgan injury and toxic shock. Therapeutics targeting both host inflammatory and cell death pathways can potentially mitigate the toxic effects of staphylococcal superantigens. mdpi.com

The speaker discusses the logic presented in a bid to DARPA, which reminds them of similar thinking in HIV research. They believe that the proposal reflects a mindset of unquestioned authority and a desire to manipulate viruses. The speaker finds the bid's logic consistent with what they have observed in the past and believes the documents are genuine. They mention that DASIC and ECHO Health may be involved in this type of work on behalf of the Intelligence community. The Intelligence community has a long history of investing in virus isolation, including monitoring African jungles and bird populations for emerging viruses.

Speaker 0: The the logic laid out in the bid, to DARPA that Veritas revealed, sounds exactly like the kind of logic that I used to hear from my old colleagues at UC Davis that were involved in HIV, SIV, chimeric research involving insertion of human cytokines into the recombinants to make them more pathogenic because they were frustrated that they couldn't get monkey disease in the way that they thought they should be able to get so this kind of heuristic, you know, we are the chosen, and we can do whatever we wanna do, and not really questioning the logic. When I when I read the bid with the proposal and the associated documents, from that, DARPA release from the major, what I read sounded entirely, likely as somebody who reviews grants and contracts. It it that kind of squishy thinking, you know, that that we can come up with this logic of boxing and the ability of the virus to evolve, that's exactly the way these guys think. So I I you know, there the DTRA, As I mentioned before, DTRA is not, they're not the sharpest tools in the shed typically. And, in this kind of goofy, fuzzy thinking. I I think it's entirely consistent with the type of people that I've known, and I and I so maybe I'm casting shade, and you're interpreting it as indication of a a bumbling incompetent organization. No. I'm just saying that the scientific logic behind this type of strategy is consistent with what I've observed in the past and seemed entirely plausible to me. So I personally believe that those documents are real. And by the way, I do have the major's phone number. I just have not called him because I didn't wanna intrude, but, he's a real person. The, but I I, I always assume that DASIC and ECHO Health, were were one of the entities, employed by, the IC and and, that world, to do this kind of work. They their behavior and and logic and thought and text is entirely consistent. So that, Intelligence community has invested in virus isolation for decades decades decades. That's, Zika was isolated through one of those programs, and often it's USAID money that's behind it. There's revealed documents going back. I mean, they've been they've been monitoring Africa and African jungles for emerging viruses for years years years. Superantigens and SARS-CoV-2 It has been posited SARS-CoV-2 contains at least one unique superantigen-like motif not found in any other SARS or endemic coronaviruses. Superantigens are potent antigens that can send the immune system into overdrive. SARS-CoV-2 causes many of the biological and clinical consequences of a superantigen, and, in the context of reinfection and waning immunity, it is important to better understand the impact of a widely circulating, airborne pathogen that may be a superantigen, superantigen-like or trigger a superantigenic host response. Urgent research is needed to better understand the long-term risks being taken by governments whose policies enable widespread transmission of a potential superantigenic pathogen, and to more clearly define the vaccination and public health policies needed to protect against the consequences of repeat exposure to the pathogen. mdpi.com
