Its more complicated than this yet for brevity's sake- The math and physics understanding of space launch vehicles and the plethora of associated technologies is why. Sure there are sample problems that exist to simulate steps on paper. But doing it in real life in real time with actual hardware is immensely complex as you know, and is really not something America wants its adversaries to have.
