Video Transcript AI Summary
We must protect trans kids and ensure their human rights are respected, making them feel seen, accepted, and loved. However, there are concerns about allowing them to make adult decisions as minors without parental knowledge or consent, as well as subjecting them to medical interventions typically used for cancer patients or violent sex offenders. Some argue that these interventions are reversible, despite testimonies from detransitioners, and even advocate for removing custody rights from guardians who disagree. Long-term studies show no reduction in suicidality after the initial 5 years, while pharmaceutical companies profit from this. It's important to reflect on whether we may unintentionally be causing harm in this situation.

Speaker 0: We need to protect trans kids. Hell yeah. We need to protect their human rights and let them know that they are seen, they are accepted, and they are loved. Yes. So we need to let them make adult decisions as minors and encourage their transition with or without parental knowledge, let alone consent, subject them to chemicals and surgeries usually reserved for either treating cancer patients or for castrating violent sex offenders. And insist is reversible despite testimonies from thousands of detransitioners and even arrest and or remove custody rights from any legal guardian that dares subject, all despite the fact that long term studies show no reduction on suicidality after the initial 5 years, and all the while enriching pharmaceutical corporations to unprecedented wealth by creating lifelong patience out of otherwise healthy children is it possible that in this story we're the bad guys No.

Alberta has recently joined Saskatchewan and New Brunswick in attacking the rights of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, particularly trans and gender diverse students. This is concerning because these students already face higher rates of suicide, homelessness, and involvement in the child welfare system. Instead of taking away their rights and making spaces less safe, we should be working to protect and further their rights. As the spokesperson for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, I have been proud to work with my colleagues across party lines to support the rights of trans and gender diverse students in our education system. We will continue to ensure that the government respects their rights and promotes inclusivity and justice in Nova Scotia.

Speaker 0: Hi folks, just hopping on to talk a bit about what we've just heard come out of Alberta who's now joined, provincial leaders and governments in, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick in really attacking the rights of 2SLGBTQIA plus folks and communities. And in particular, making political debate out of the rights and safety of trans and gender diverse students and young people. We're very concerned about that. We know that, in fact, what we should be doing is working to uphold the rights and the health and the well-being of trans and gender diverse students. We know that even now, you know, we see higher higher rates of suicide, higher rates of homelessness, higher rates of, being in the child welfare system amongst young people. And we need to be protecting their rights and furthering their rights, not taking them away and making space more spaces less safe. I've been really proud over the last couple of years to be the new democratic spokesperson for 2 s LGBTQIA plus communities and issues, and working alongside my new Democrat colleagues in the house, but also trying to work across party lines to get people together. And we have heard from this current government some supportive statements, for, the rights of trans and gender diverse students in our education system. So we're going to be there making sure that this government, continues to respect their rights and look at ways to make our education system, our health system, and, all things provincial more inclusive and more just in Nova Scotia.

Speaker 0: Hey, folks. I'm just on my way down to Calgary. But, I wanted to take a moment to speak to these new policies that have been put forward by the UCP that are directly targeting trans and gender diverse youth. You know, what we saw yesterday with Danielle Neil Smith. In her video, it was just heartbreaking. It's I can't call it anything but a cynical exercise. An in incredibly divisive politics targeting some of the most vulnerable in our families and communities, that being trans and gender diverse kids. Put. Now, Danielle Smith tried to claim that she was speaking from a place of compassion, but, you know, she told outright lies about the kinds of care that are actually available and pointed to gender diversity. She repeated misinformation that is going to harm these children and their families, and that preys on the fear put of other parents. And she fed into a lot of misrepresentations and even conspiracy theories about the reality and the practices of the policies that actually take place put in our schools. These policies that she's put forward, they are going to directly interfere in the doctor patient relationship. It's going to strip away the rights of parents put in children to make their own decisions about treatment and medical care. This is gonna further isolate youth who we know are already struggling, put struggling to find supports, safe spaces that they need. These are youth who already experience put higher rates of depression, suicide, houselessness, and this is going to make it worse. Daniel Smith's intentionally trading in functionally trading in a politics division. She's looking to distract from her government disastrous record, her failure to address things like our overflowing emergency rooms, put overcrowded classrooms, soaring costs for families, and, hey, an ongoing shortage of family doctors. Put. This isn't compassion. This is cruelty. So I just wanna take a moment and say to all all of the young people across our province who are just simply seeking a safe space to be who you are. You know, to all of our trans and 2 spirited family and friends and neighbors, all the people that I have met across this province. Please know, we do see you. Put. We love you. We care about you, and we are committed to standing with you.

Speaker 0: I want to know you. I want to know what you say. Your opinion. What do you say? I wanna know your position. What's your own party policy? Yes. It's your own party policy. A party Speaker 1: convention protect the rights of parents to make their own decisions Speaker 0: What does it mean? Speaker 1: With regards to their children. And I believe that adults should have the freedom to make any decision they want about their bodies. Speaker 0: But minors don't have to ban surgeries and medical for minors as your own party members suggest Speaker 1: Medical interventions like what? Speaker 0: That that is the language that you're part of. Speaker 1: Medical interventions? Speaker 0: Well, you would have to ask your party members. Medical such as puberty blockers and hormone Speaker 1: For minors? Yep. Yeah. Irreversible? Speaker 0: You're talking about irreversible? I don't like to understand you. No. I don't wanna be right here. I just wanna be clear. For minors. Speaker 1: Puberty blockers for minors? Yes. Speaker 0: Do you agree with that? Speaker 1: I think that we should protect children and their ability to make adult decisions when they're adults. Speaker 0: So you think it's only adults only adults should take oh, you said yes? Just just to be clear, you said yes. Only adults should take Puberty both I think Speaker 1: we should protect children. Let them make adult decisions when they become adults. Speaker 0: So that's what we're gonna do. Right? Restrictions. You are against Puberty blockers for kids under the age of 18. Is that is that Yes. Unclear? Okay. Okay. What about can I ask you about, in Alberta By the way, Speaker 1: I just wanna make another comment on this? Justin Trudeau is again puffing out his chest, trying to divide Canadians and attack parents who are trying to protect their kids. He will, in the end, back down on this just like he had to back down on his firearms policy. Just like he had to back down on bringing in medical assistance in dying for people suffering from mental illness. Just like he's backing down again and again and again, he will back down on this because he is not interested in protecting kids. He's interested in using this as a divisive wedge to distract from doubling housing costs and quadrupling carbon taxes On our people. Speaker 0: What is You're you're you're so you're against puberty blockers for kids under the age of 18. Missy White What about opting Yes, I am. What about, Hepariners in Alberta having to opt in for sex ed. Where do they stand? Every lesson is there. Speaker 1: That's that's that's a decision for the province. No. Speaker 0: No. What you're gonna say?
