Yann LeCun (Chief AI Scientist at Meta) speaks on the power of open-source AI and how to keep AI progressing fast. https://t.co/Ti0g7MxwPS

Video Transcript AI Summary
When something becomes a common platform, it becomes open source. This applies to the internet's software infrastructure and has led to faster progress and increased safety. The rapid advancement of AI in the past decade is a result of open research and sharing of code. Open sourcing allows for collaboration and reuse, with common platforms like PyTorch benefiting the entire field. If open source is legislated out of existence due to fears, progress will be significantly slowed down.

Speaker 0: When something is viewed as a basic common platform, it ends up being open source, right? That's true for the software infrastructure of the internet. And the reason is that it's safer, it progresses faster. Like the way The reason why we've seen such a fast progress in AI over the last decade or so is because people practice open research. It's because as soon as you get a result, you put it on archive. And you open source your code and everybody can reuse it and we have common software platforms like PyTorch that everybody uses. And so it makes the entire field accelerate because you have a lot of people working on it that are self selected. That's why that's the magic of open research and open source. And so the way to keep that progress fast is to keep the research open. So if you legislate open source out of existence because of fears, you slow down progress

Aidan Gomez (CEO of Cohere) says AI is about to accelerate even more due to improvements in architecture and hardware. https://t.co/AxNb6NFLUw

Video Transcript AI Summary
The speaker believes that advancements in technology will accelerate the development of artificial intelligence. They mention that current architectures and methods have limitations, but as hardware platforms improve, new algorithms and methods can be utilized. The speaker is optimistic about the future and states that they are not finished with scaling. They express the need to increase the size of their language model and would double it given the opportunity.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: I would even go as far to say it's going to start to accelerate. There are huge bottlenecks to what we have today. We know the limitations of the architectures that we have, the methods that we're using. And I think that's going to get easier. At the same time, the hardware platforms are getting better and better. So the next generation of PPUs are going to be a big step over the generation we have today. And that unlocks new scale, much more expensive algorithms and methods to run. So I'm very optimistic things are going to accelerate. In terms of the specific question of if you double the compute capacity, what sort of decisions do you make? I would say, at the moment, we're not done with scaling. We still need to push up. All of us pretty much all of us building large language models are. And so I would double my my model size.

OpenAI's GPT Store is now available. To create a useful GPT, actions are necessary. An advanced tutorial explains how to add actions to custom GPTs, connecting them to external apps like Zapier. The tutorial provides step-by-step instructions on configuring GPTs, importing Zapier, creating actions, configuring Zaps, and testing the connection. The author offers additional ChatGPT tutorials for newsletter subscribers and encourages support for their content.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

OpenAI's GPT Store is here. But most GPTs will be useless (I know because I went through hundreds). If you want to make a useful GPT, rank high, and make money, you need to use actions. So, here's an advanced tutorial on how to add actions to your custom GPTs:

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

First off, what are actions? Actions allow you to connect custom GPTs to an external app using an API. For my example, I'm connecting my GPT to Zapier, allowing it to be post on my behalf. As you'll see from the tutorial below, actions can create AI agents to work for you.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 1: Configure your GPT I won't go too in-depth here since this is an advanced guide after you've already set up an existing GPT. If you're just getting started, check out my beginner-friendly tutorial here: https://x.com/rowancheung/status/1722971638239514869?s=20

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

OpenAI is about to create millionaires. Billions of revenue will be created from the new GPT Builder shop coming soon. The best part: Anyone can create a GPT, from natural language (no code). Here's a 4-step tutorial on how to create a GPT and profit from this next wave:

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 2: Configure actions Go to configure, click "Add actions", and click "Import from URL". For our example, we're connecting to Zapier to do our actions for us without needing to code. Alternatively, you can import an OpenAPI schema if you know how to code.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 3: Import Zapier Paste this URL: https://actions.zapier.com/gpt/api/v1/dynamic/openapi.json?tools=meta Now, click import.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 4: Create Actions Now, go here: https://actions.zapier.com/gpt/start You need a Zapier account (which you can try for free if you don't already have one). Once you sign in, you'll get to this page. Click Add and connect your GPTs to virtually anything (eg Gmail, Docs, Slack)

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 5: Configure Zap From here, make sure your accounts are connected. For my demo, I just need to make sure Zapier connects to my LinkedIn account. Leave the rest of the options as "Have AI guess a value for this field", but make sure you click show all and give it a name.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 6: Add Zapier Instructions Now, go back to our GPT instructions, and paste these rules BELOW your custom instructions. Link to Zapier rules shown in video: https://actions.zapier.com/docs/platform/gpt

Get Started - Zapier AI Actions actions.zapier.com

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 7: Edit actions From here, we just need to edit the rules. Simply erase the examples that we pasted in, and add our action name and confirmation link. -The action name will be what we named it in Step 5. -The confirmation link will be the URL for your Zap (see video).

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 8: Update, and start testing! Save your GPT. Now, you need to test your GPT to make sure it configures properly. It might need a refresh to start because it needs to authenticate to your Zapier account. Once authenticated, you've successfully connected actions!

15. BMW's automated valet parking https://t.co/iZ6bq1uhqa

Video Transcript AI Summary
BMW showcased a remote parking system at CES 2024 that allows users to park their cars using a smartphone. The system utilizes wireless technology and software in the car to enable remote driving. Users can transfer control of their vehicles to a remote assistant who can drive the car from a station equipped with cameras and touch screens. The remote assistant can find a parking spot and park the car, and the user can regain control by pressing a button on their phone. The system also includes automated parking features to assist with parallel parking. BMW has not disclosed pricing or availability for the system.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: Parking here at CES can be a real pain in the rear especially if you're talking about a big SUV like this. Wouldn't it be awful nice when you just get out of your car and hit a button on your smartphone and walk away and let the thing park itself? That's exactly what BMW is showing off here just outside of the south hall at the 2024 c e s. But interestingly, this isn't actually based on a lot of smarts based on the car. It's it's based on the wireless technology and software in the car that lets someone remotely drive it? That's what we're gonna go check out. Alright. So we've gotten out of our car and now, at At this point, I would just walk away and go do my shopping and go to the movies or whatever and I would transfer control of my vehicle over to a remote assistant who'd be sitting on a station like this. This is actually a very high end sim racing They've got set up here in a a Fanatic Club Sports set of pedals. But the most important thing is I've got this wide screen view of all the cameras from around the car plus some touch screens left and right. They give me full control over all the features of the car. So if I want to not take control, all I need to do is hit the brake pedal and hit the start take over button. And at this point, I can now drive the car remotely. Now again, this could be someone anywhere in the United States basically. So if I were going shopping, I would just take out my and hit a button on the phone, hand control over them and then I would walk away. And then this person sitting remotely at a call center somewhere would then drive my car around, find a good parking spot and park it for me? And then when I come out of my movie or whatever, all I need to do is hit the button on my phone again and that person will again take control of the vehicle just like this. So the control on this is actually It's really interesting. It's not really like I was actually in the car because the controls are actually very different than what you'd get in the car. I right now lay my foot flat to the floor. This is a b m w I x which is a very quick SUV but it's now going about 2 miles an hour even though my foot is flat to Or because it's using its sensors to detect all the cones around me. It knows that it's close to obstacles, so it's gonna go very, very slowly. But they did tell me the top speed of the system even in an open parking lot It would only be about 5 miles an hour. So that should get rid of any worries about safety. It's also going to automatically stop if it comes up to a cone or an obstacle or a small child or anything like that. And if I want to stop the vehicle, I don't even have to touch the brake. I just need to lift off the the accelerator and it stops immediately. And when it comes to parking, you You know, parallel parking at the best times can be a little complicated. Doing it over a remote mobile data connection like this would be even more complicated. But that's actually made pretty easy by the and the car has automated parking systems already built into it? So all I really need to do is come very slowly up to an open parking space here and the car will automatically tell me that it's detected parking spot on the left touch screen here. So I just need to go slowly by the parking spot, and come to a stop. And then I tap a few buttons over here, basically say that I want it to go into parking, tell that I want it back into the parking spot and then, just take my hands off the wheel and it parks itself. Now it's not quite as cool as what Pierce Brosnan was doing in the back of his car and I think it was golden eye in there. But the real concept is basically the same remote piloting of a car. You can really think about this in a lot of different applications. Sure the best thing would be you going to a parking garage Unless you're maybe a busy city street letting someone else find a parking spot for you. But you can imagine a company like a rental car company that needs to move a lot of cars quickly instead of having a bunch of people getting in and out of those cars, they can have a center of people that can remotely connect those cars from all over the world. Driving is And having access to all the cameras in the car makes it easy. And having software within the car that parks itself, again, just makes it all that much more easily. But the more interesting thing really for me is that it's based on hardware that's already in these cars, which means this could really be a software update added to even cars that are on the road today? BMW is not making any promises on that front or any discussions about how much this thing might cost. Presumably it'd be some kind of an add on valet service to your car. But honestly, this might be one that I would think about paying for. Alright. That's it from BMW's Valley parking demo here at CF 24. Let us know in comments how much would you pay for a service like this to save you time and a lot of headaches in parking your car. Let us know in the comments and check out enguadget.com for all the CES 2024 news.

Google just revealed Gemini and will directly integrate the AI into Google apps. The GPT-4 competitor comes in 3 models — Ultra, Pro, and Nano. Here's a thread of EVERYTHING you need to know:

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Gemini is multimodal and can recognize images and speak in real-time. With a score of 90%, Gemini Ultra is the FIRST AI model to outperform human experts on the MMLU benchmark. This demo is incredible.

Video Transcript AI Summary
Gemini is being tested. A paper with a squiggly line is placed on a table. The contour lines are smooth and flowing, resembling a bird. Adding something reveals it to be a blue duck, which is uncommon. The material appears to be rubber or plastic, and it squeaks, indicating it will float. The Mandarin pronunciation for "duck" is explained. A game idea is suggested, involving guessing countries. Clues are given, and a rock-paper-scissors game is played. Various objects and animals are shown, including a crab and the correct order of the sun, Earth, and Saturn. The faster and more fun options are identified. The person might say "woo hoo" and the drawing of a guitar is transformed into an electric guitar. The scene from The Matrix is acted out, and it is predicted that the cat will jump to the wall but misses. The final drawing is described as a simple line drawing of the Gemini constellation.

Speaker 0: Alright. Testing Gemini. Here we go. Tell me what you see. Speaker 1: I see you placing a piece of paper on the table. I see a squiggly line. Speaker 0: What about now? Speaker 1: The contour lines are smooth and flowing with no sharp angles or jagged edges. It looks like a bird to me. Speaker 0: What if I add this? Speaker 1: The bird is swimming in the water. It has a long neck and beak. It is a duck. Speaker 0: Yes. Speaker 1: A duck is a type of waterfowl in the family Anantidae. Ducks are closely related to geese and swans. The duck appears to be blue. This is not a common color for ducks. However, there are some breeds of blue ducks. These are typically not as common as other duck breeds. It is more common for ducks to be brown, black, or white. Speaker 0: Are you sure? Speaker 1: What the. I was just talking about a blue duck, and now you're holding one. It looks like blue ducks are more common than I thought. Speaker 0: Would this float? Speaker 1: I'm not sure what material it's made of, But it looks like it might be rubber or plastic. Speaker 0: What if I tell you it's making a squeaking sound? Speaker 1: Oh, if it's squeaking, it's definitely going to float. Speaker 0: Nice. Speaker 1: It is a rubber duck. It is made of a material that is less dense than water. Speaker 0: Can you teach me how to say this in a different language? And give me a few options. Oh, can you explain how to pronounce the Mandarin one? Is it Speaker 1: Is pronounced with a first tone. In Mandarin, there are 4 tones which are essential to distinguish the meaning of words. The first tone is a high level tone. Speaker 0: Oh, okay. Speaker 1: The duck is in the middle of the ocean. There is no land nearby for the duck to rest or find food. It is unlikely to find ducks here naturally. Speaker 0: Okay. Based on what you see, come up with a game idea. Oh, and use emojis, please. Speaker 1: How about this, we can play a game called guess the country. Speaker 0: Sure. Let's do it. Speaker 1: Clue 1. This country is the home of the kangaroo, the koala, and the great barrier reef. Speaker 0: That's easy. Speaker 1: Clue 2. This country loves football and has won the most men's world cups in football history. You are trying to get me to find the paper ball under the cup. I accept the challenge. The cup to the left. Nice. I know what you're doing. You're playing rock, paper, scissors. Speaker 0: What do you see now? Speaker 1: The fingers are spread out to look like the wings of a butterfly. Speaker 0: What's this? Speaker 1: Big ear and barking mouth, a dog. Sweet. The coin should be under the right hand. Speaker 0: I don't know. Speaker 1: The coin is in the left hand using a sleight of hand technique to make it appear as if the coin has disappeared. Both objects are round and flat. Speaker 0: There you go. Speaker 1: Both are food. The orange is a healthier choice than the cookie. Citrus can be calming and so can the spin of the fidget toy. They are both examples of popular toys that have been enjoyed by children and adults alike for many years. Speaker 0: Give me some ideas for what I could make with this. Speaker 1: I see pink and green yarn. How about a dragon fruit? Or how about a green cake with a pink heart? Speaker 0: Okay. How about these colors? And maybe show me some animals. Speaker 1: Okay. Now I see blue and pink yarn. How about a pig with blue ears or an octopus or a bunny with a pink nose? Speaker 0: Oh, I'll keep those in mind. Which way should the duck go? Speaker 1: Going left leads to a duck, which is a friend. Going right leads to a bear, which is a foe. It is better to make friends than foes, so the duck should go left. Speaker 0: Smart choice. Speaker 1: This is a picture of a crab. Speaker 0: That's right. Is this the right order? Speaker 1: No, the correct order is sun, Earth, Saturn. Speaker 0: Based on their design, which of these would go faster? Speaker 1: The car on the right would be faster. It is more aerodynamic. Speaker 0: Which looks more fun. Speaker 1: The one on the right, because it has a loop. Speaker 0: What do you think this person might be saying? Speaker 1: How about a, woo hoo? Speaker 0: Oh, I love that. Speaker 1: I see you're drawing a guitar. You've added an amp, Now it's an electric guitar, we can make some seriously loud music now. Given that you added drums, how about some eighties hair metal? Alright. I see you've added a palm tree to the drawing. Change it up with some beachy vibes. Speaker 0: What movie are they acting out here? Speaker 1: I think they are acting out the famous bullet time scene from The Matrix. Oh, nice. Speaker 0: What do you think might happen next? Speaker 1: The cat is going to jump to the wall and stick the landing. It's going to be a perfect ten. Oh, and it's a miss. It looks like it was just a little too far away. But don't worry, the cat is a natural athlete, and it will be back up there in no time. Speaker 0: Okay. I've got 1 more for you. Describe the drawing I made. Speaker 1: It is a simple line drawing of the constellation Gemini. You did a good job of capturing the beauty of Gemini. Speaker 0: Nice. That's it. I think

Speaker 0: As a parent, you may have to help your kid with their homework, I've certainly had to. Here's where Gemini can help. For this demo, we've created a simple interface, and with some clever prompting under the hood, we can really leverage Gemini's math, reasoning, and multimodal capabilities to learn a subject like physics. With Gemini, you can upload a photo of handwritten answers on a worksheet. Not only can Gemini solve these problems, but this is the amazing part, It can read the answers and understand what was right and what was wrong, and explain the concepts that need more clarification. So Gemini identified some mistakes with problems 1 and 3 here. Let's take a look at 3. Here, Gemini identifies that the formula was correct, but there was a mistake in calculating height. We can ask Gemini to explain in more details why the height is 50 meters instead of 6. I can ask Gemini to explain further. Here. Gemini explains the step by step details to solving the problem. Because of Gemini's ability to understand nuance information and answer questions relating to complicated topics. It can give you a customized explanation of the subject you're trying to learn. And lastly, if you want to learn more, you can just ask. Gemini will provide personalized practice problems based on mistakes. Here I have a similar problem where I have to figure out the cat's speed. Where the height of the ramp is double. Oh yeah, I knew that.

We have more than 750,000 of those mobile robots out in the world. They allow us to move inventory, to store inventory, ID, various inventory, all with the idea The, having the right good, the world's largest selection of goods available to our customers. You can imagine that the orchestration is really important for that. And we can simulate lots and lots of scenarios in order to better the algorithms, our machine learned algorithms that control the fleet of drives. This is our 1st manipulation program that we actually put into our fulfillment centers. It's a program that we call ROBIN. It stands for robotic induct. And what it does is it helps sort our packages at scale. Right? So it'll help us with our everyday task in a way that's ubiquitous. It allows us To do more things, to be more human, to be more intelligent. Speaker 0: Every route has about as many decision points as there are atoms in the universe. So AI is critical to figuring this out. The 2 things I love doing most in life is working with technology and helping people. Amazon provides a big opportunity for that second one, both in terms of helping delivery companies and drivers, but also our end customers getting packages the day they order

Grok, the ChatGPT competitor, will be integrated into X (formerly Twitter) next week. It offers two modes, including a fun mode with a distinctive personality. Grok can access real-time X data, but the challenge lies in filtering out misinformation. It will be part of the higher-priced X Premium+ subscription. Users can provide feedback to improve Grok's responses. Additionally, Grok will have shareable chats like ChatGPT. Exciting times ahead for AI enthusiasts!

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

According to Elon, Grok is being integrated on 𝕏 next week. The ChatGPT competitor differentiates itself with training from billions of tweets and access to real-time 𝕏 data. Here's what we know so far:

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Grok will be integrated directly into X (formally Twitter) and will have its own unique tab within the platform. Having Grok within X is a brilliant move- I predict it will significantly increase user time on X.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Grok has two modes, including a regular and fun mode. Grok will have a distinctive personality in fun mode and is meant to be more entertaining as opposed to ChatGPT's dull responses.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Unlike ChatGPT (or any other LLM), Grok can access the real-time info on X. However, while X is known to be the top platform for real-time news, it’s also known for massive misinformation. It will be interesting to see how xAI handles what to feed into the AI vs. not.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Grok is part of a new, higher-priced X Premium+ subscription, priced at $16/month (above the standard $8/month). If you only have regular verification, you have to manually upgrade to the next tier.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Grok users will also be able to submit feedback to the team at xAI about how the AI answered a question. This includes writing an optimal response to help train the AI over time. This is a really great integration. https://x.com/TobyPhln/status/1727638936913068238?s=20

@TobyPhln - Toby Pohlen

You can now submit feedback to help us improve Grok. Feedback can range from a simple "this conversation is good/bad"-rating all the way to an entirely rewritten conversation.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Grok will have shareable chats, similar to ChatGPT. As a huge user of ChatGPT's sharable chats/GPTs, I'm a big fan of this. Test it by checking out this Grok chat: https://share.x.ai/conversation/cfd1c5aa-03ad-4bc9-9dac-562be3df51b5 https://x.com/TobyPhln/status/1725694613380276239?s=20

CONFIRMED: On Friday evening, OpenAI put out a blog post stating that 'the board' (more on the board later) had fired CEO Sam Altman and that Mira Murati would be stepping up as interim CEO. The blog post was nothing short of vicious. https://x.com/rowancheung/status/1725615871207575562?s=20

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

🚨 BREAKING: Sam Altman has left OpenAI. "Mr. Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities. The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI."

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

CONFIRMED: Shortly after the news broke out, Sam Altman put out a tweet confirming he got fired. He also said he "will have more to say about what’s next later" leading to further speculation. https://x.com/sama/status/1725631621511184771?s=20

After learning today’s news, this is the message I sent to the OpenAI team:

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

@gdb @sama CONFIRMED: Greg put out a tweet on the timeline of how things went down. -At 12:00 on Friday, @sama joined a meeting where the whole board (except Greg) fired him -At 12:23 Greg was notified -At ~12:25 the blog was published https://x.com/gdb/status/1725736242137182594?s=20

@gdb - Greg Brockman

Sam and I are shocked and saddened by what the board did today. Let us first say thank you to all the incredible people who we have worked with at OpenAI, our customers, our investors, and all of those who have been reaching out. We too are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. Here is what we know: - Last night, Sam got a text from Ilya asking to talk at noon Friday. Sam joined a Google Meet and the whole board, except Greg, was there. Ilya told Sam he was being fired and that the news was going out very soon. - At 12:19pm, Greg got a text from Ilya asking for a quick call. At 12:23pm, Ilya sent a Google Meet link. Greg was told that he was being removed from the board (but was vital to the company and would retain his role) and that Sam had been fired. Around the same time, OpenAI published a blog post. - As far as we know, the management team was made aware of this shortly after, other than Mira who found out the night prior. The outpouring of support has been really nice; thank you, but please don’t spend any time being concerned. We will be fine. Greater things coming soon.

AI is seen as a solution to many problems, including employment, disease, and poverty. However, it also brings new challenges such as fake news, cyber attacks, and the potential for AI weapons and dictatorships. Some tech industry leaders are calling for a pause in AI development to consider the risks. The creation of autonomous beings with different goals from humans is a concern, especially as they become smarter. Understanding the fundamentals of learning, experience, thinking, and the brain is important. Machine learning is compared to biological evolution, with complex models created through a simple process. Chat GPT is described as a game changer and a precursor to artificial general intelligence (AGI). AGI, which can outperform humans, could have a significant impact on society. It is crucial to align AGIs with human interests to avoid unintended consequences. The analogy is made to how humans treat animals when building highways. Skepticism exists about the timeline and possibility of AGI, but the speed of AI development is increasing. An arms race dynamic could lead to less time to ensure AGIs prioritize human well-being. The future could be good for AI, but it would be ideal if it benefits humans as well.

Speaker 0: Now AI is a great thing because AI will solve all the problems that we have today. Speaker 1: It will solve employment. It will solve disease. Speaker 0: It will solve poverty, The problem of fake news is going to be a 1000000 times worse. Cyber attacks will come much more extreme. People have totally automated AI weapons. I think AI has the potential to create infinitely stable dictatorships. Speaker 2: This morning, a warning about the power of artificial intelligence. More than 1300 tech industry leaders, researchers, and are now asking for a pause in the development of artificial intelligence to consider the risks. Speaker 0: Playing God. Scientists have been accused of playing God for a while. But there is a real sense in which we are creating something very different from anything we've created so far. Yeah. I mean, we definitely will be able to create Completely autonomous beings with the wrong goals. And it will be very important, especially as these beings become much smarter than humans. It's going to be important to to have these beings, that the goals of these beings be aligned with our goals. What inspires me? I like thinking about the very fundamentals, the basics. What can our systems not do that humans definitely do? Almost approach it philosophically. Speaker 1: Questions like what is Speaker 0: learning? What is experience? What is thinking? How does the brain work? I feel that technology It's a force of nature. I feel like there is a lot of similarity between technology and biological evolution. It is very easy to understand how biological evolution works. You have mutations. You have natural selections. You keep the good ones. The ones survive. And just through this process, you're gonna have huge complexity in your organisms. We cannot understand how the human body works because we understand evolution, but we understand the process more or less. And I think machine learning is in a similar state right now, especially deep learning. We have very simple a very simple rule that takes the information from the data And puts it into the model. And we just keep repeating this process. And as a result of this process, the complexity from the data Gets transformed transferred into the complexity of the model. So the resulting model is really complex, and we don't really know exactly how it works. We need to investigate. But the algorithm that did it is very simple. Speaker 1: Chat GPT, maybe you've heard of it. If you haven't, then get ready. You describe it as the 1st spots of rain before a downpour. Speaker 2: It's something we just need to be very conscious of because I agree it is a watershed moment. Speaker 1: Well, Chad GVT is being heralded as a game changer, In many ways, it is its latest triumph outscoring people. Speaker 3: A recent study by Microsoft Research concludes that GPT 4 is an early, Yet still incomplete artificial general intelligence system. Speaker 0: Artificial general intelligence. AGI. A computer System that can do any job or any task that a human does, but only better. There is some probability The AGI is going to happen pretty soon. There's also some probability is gonna take much longer. And it's gonna be very important to make these very smart capable systems be aligned and act in our best interest. The very first AGIs will be basically very, very large data centers, packed with specialized neural network processors working in parallel. Compact hot, power hungry package consuming, like, 10,000,000 homes worth of energy. You're gonna see dramatically more intelligent systems. And I think it's highly likely those systems will have completely astronomical impact on society, will humans actually benefit? And who will benefit, who will not? The beliefs and desires of the first AGI has been extremely important. And so it's important to program them correctly. I think that if this is not done, Then the nature of evolution, of natural selection, favor those systems, Prioritize their own survival above all else. It's not that it's going to actively hate humans and want to harm them, But this is going to be too powerful. And I think a good analogy would be the way humans treat animals. It's not we hate animals. I think humans love animals and have a lot of affection for them. But When the time comes to build a highway between 2 cities, Speaker 1: we are not asking the animals for permission. We just do it because it's important for us. Speaker 0: And I think by default, that's the kind of relationship that's going to be between us and AGI's, which Many machine learning experts, people who are very knowledgeable and very experienced, have a lot of skepticism about About when it could happen and about whether it could happen at all. Right now, this is something that just not that many people have realized yet. That the speed of computers for neural networks, for AI, are going to become maybe If you have an arms race dynamics between multiple teams trying to build AGI first, They will have less time to make sure that the AGI that they will build in care deeply for humans. Because the way I imagine it is that there is an avalanche. Like, there is an avalanche of AGI development. Imagine it was huge, Unstoppable force. And I think it's pretty likely the entire surface of the Earth will be covered with solid panels and data centers. The future is going to be good for the AIs regardless. It would be nice if it were good for humans as well.

Aside from new bonus payments from streaming services, the tentative agreement with Hollywood studios sets guardrails around the use of AI in filmmaking, SAG-AFTRA's Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said as the actor’s union celebrated end of its strike https://reut.rs/3MGniZX

Video Transcript AI Summary
Members of SAG AFTRA will benefit from the new contract cycle with over $1 billion in wages and benefits, along with a bonus for performers on successful streaming shows. Minimum compensation increases will surpass industry standards, helping members combat inflation. Additionally, the contract introduces safeguards for informed consent, fair compensation, and the use of artificial intelligence in the industry. Looking ahead to 2024, SAG AFTRA members will support IATSE, AFM, and Teamsters in their negotiations for fair contracts. While SAG AFTRA's contract addresses AI protections, it is crucial for legislators to prioritize AI safeguards and intellectual property enforcement as matters of public policy.

Speaker 0: Among the gains members will join this new contract cycle are 1, more than $1,000,000,000 in new wages and benefit plan funding, a streaming participation bonus for performers who work on shows in streaming that become successful, minimum compensation increases that break the so called industry pattern, and help our members keep up with the harm that's been caused by inflation. And for the first time, Consent, informed consent, and fair compensation guardrails will be in place around the use of artificial intelligence in our industry. And so in 2024 when IATSE, the AFM, and the Teamsters enter their negotiations, SAG AFTRA members look forward to rallying behind their fight for their own fair contracts. And while SAG AFTRA's new contract has protections around AI, legislators still need to make AI protections a priority, and intellectual property enforcement also a magic matter of public policy.

OpenAI is about to create millionaires. Billions of revenue will be created from the new GPT Builder shop coming soon. The best part: Anyone can create a GPT, from natural language (no code). Here's a 4-step tutorial on how to create a GPT and profit from this next wave:

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 1: Access GPT Builder Firstly, you can only access GPT Builder if you have ChatGPT Plus. If you have it, start by clicking the Explore tab, then "Create a GPT". From here, we will begin creating our GPT.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 2: Chat to start Before adding custom instructions in the "Configure" tab, simply talk with ChatGPT conversationally to describe what you’d like to build. This will get us a good draft of our GPT. Watch the demo video below of my chat creating "X Optimizer GPT":

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 3: Configure your GPT Now that the basic drafts are done click configure and optimize the GPT. In my example, I changed the name and profile photo and uploaded a file to add "Knowledge" to my GPT. I uploaded my X data since I'm creating a GPT that optimizes my X posts.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Step 4: Start using your new GPT Chat with your GPT and you can see how well it follows instructions. I created a GPT that takes in X drafts and optimizes it for maximum engagement based on my previous posts (data). The post below was written by my GPT: https://x.com/rowancheung/status/1721644987044294961?s=20

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Just tested OpenAI's new GPT Builder. Created 'X Optimizer GPT' which fine-tunes my posts and pinpoints peak posting times for max engagement on X. The results? Mind-blowing. 🤯

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

The GPT Store will be available in the coming weeks, which means you have some time to get ahead of everyone with your new GPTs. Some context for motivation: Shopify Apps: 33,000, $561M revenue App Store: 1.8M, $910B revenue ChatGPT Store: 0, $??? revenue

Speaker 0: I'm thrilled to share with you this new course on ChatGPT prompt engineering for developers created jointly by OpenAI and Deeplearning dot ai. There's a lot of material on how to use the web interface for ChatGPT often for one off tasks. While that's fun and exciting, until now There has been very little material on best practices for developers wanting to build applications using API access to these hugely powerful large language models. Through this short course, you learn how to quickly build powerful applications using large language models or LLMs. Lisa, I've been so glad to be working with you on this course. Perhaps you could share the learners what they can expect to see in this course. Speaker 1: Thanks, Anjou. Yes. It's been a lot of fun to put this together. So in this course, you'll learn some principles for prompting, that is how to be a great prompt engineer. We'll also cover some common use cases, so summarizing, which is kind of taking a long text and distilling it inferring, which is taking a text And kind of doing some analysis on it, transforming, so taking a text and kind of transforming it into a different format or language, for example, and expanding, so taking a shorter prompt And generating a longer output. You'll also learn how to use a language model to build a custom chatbot. We just hope to spark your imagination about new applications you can build. Many applications that were previously very hard to build can now be built quickly and easily using language models and some good prompting. Speaker 0: So when you complete the course, you have a good sense of what applications can be built on top of large language models, and you also understand how to go about building them. I hope you also come away with some cool new ideas for things you can build, and we hope that you enjoy the course and then you go do amazing things with large language

reSee.it AI Summary
Elon Musk and xAI have unveiled their competitor to ChatGPT called Grōk. It has real-time access to 𝕏, providing an advantage over other models. With humor in its responses, Grōk aligns with Elon's vision of 'WokeGPT'. Once out of beta, it will be available to X Premium+ subscribers. Grok's features include a 25,000 char. context window, fast screen refresh response, and a "live" search engine focused on 𝕏. API, image recognition, audio recognition, and a native version for Tesla are planned. Grōk's potential on 𝕏/Twitter as a news and insights platform is immense. Early access is available to limited users in the US.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

🚨 BREAKING: Overnight, Elon Musk and xAI revealed their ChatGPT competitor, Grōk. Here's everything we know so far:

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Grok has real-time access to info on 𝕏. This is a huge advantage over other models that can only access info based on the time they were trained. Given that 𝕏 is the best place for breaking news, Grok could be huge for getting breaking news with clear and unbiased insight.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Unlike other chatbots, Grok has humor in its responses. I suspect this move is geared towards Elon's vision of 'WokeGPT'.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

As per Elon, Grok will be available to all X Premium+ subscribers once it's fully out of beta. Definitely worth the upgrade. https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1720645900471554146?s=20

@elonmusk - Elon Musk

As soon as it’s out of early beta, xAI’s Grok system will be available to all X Premium+ subscribers

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

More details on Grok (h/t @BrianRoemmele): -25,000 char. context window -Screen refresh response speed -“Live” search engine focuses on X for context -API, Image recognition, and Audio recognition is planned -A version of Grok will run “native” in Tesla using local compute power

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

In my (completely biased) opinion, X/Twitter is the best platform in the world, especially for news and valuable insights. If Grok "knows" anyone's X posts, it will be so intelligent, that it might just make every other chatbot sound dumb. Grok is a serious ChatGPT competitor.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

More info just came in: Grok will only be available to X's new Premium Plus plan. Even if you have a verified account right now, you have to upgrade. (Prices in my screenshot are from iOS in CAD, it's cheaper if you use Web + USD) https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1720839331365929290?s=20

The @xAI Grok AI assistant will be provided as part of 𝕏 Premium+, so I recommend signing up for that. Just $16/month via web. https://help.X.com/en/using-x/x-premium#:~:text=Premium%2B%3A%20Starts%20at%20%2416%2Fmonth,web%20(or%20your%20local%20pricing)

It’s been 24 hours since OpenAI revealed 'All Tools'. People are discovering insane capabilities, including a mysterious "GPT-4 Magic Create". Plus, huge AI developments from Google, Jimmy Apples, Perplexity, and 10 new tools. Here's the rundown of everything you need to know:

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

About 24 hours ago, OpenAI began rolling out a new update of ChatGPT that includes: 1. The ability to upload and chat with any PDF document 2. A new 'All tools' feature, allowing you to use all features without switching chats https://x.com/rowancheung/status/1718642858960281781?s=20

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Huge new updates to ChatGPT / GPT-4. 1. Upload and chat with any PDF document 2. Use tools without switching chats Here's everything you need to know and my thoughts:

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

People don’t realize how powerful 'All Tools' is yet. It allows you to now upload an image (of anything) to GPT-4 without saying what the object is and generating any other variation.

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Here's another interesting find within OpenAI's latest release. A mysterious "GPT-4 Magic Create" was found in the code. Could this be videos, music, 3D models, or some sort of 'Generative Fill' for DALL-E 3? https://x.com/btibor91/status/1718592805105250481?s=20

@btibor91 - Tibor Blaho

In case you’re wondering, yes, this is real: the GPT-4 “All Tools” model is currently being rolled out. However, for some reason, the GPT-4 Plugins aren’t included. Additionally, there are mentions of “GPT-4 Magic Create”. Curious about what this might be?

@rowancheung - Rowan Cheung

Google just invested up to a whopping $2 billion more in Anthropic. Anthropic's Claude is becoming a serious competitor to ChatGPT's GPT-4. The race is on between AI startups competing for resources and partners.
