not only are the wokies going to turn out to be 100% correct that he’s an unstable rеtаrd, they’re also going to be right about him being a fascist tyrant he’s trying to use an executive order to punish a law firm for the “crime” of representing his political opponents https://t.co/xEs9UbSXOz

@shinboson This is the most concerning thing that has happened, honestly, as a lawyer. It basically throws a fire bomb into the legal profession and has a chilling effect on firms that would represent anyone hostile to the administration

The conversation begins with a user criticizing a political figure for allegedly using executive power to punish a law firm representing his opponents, labeling him as unstable and a fascist. Another user responds by noting that similar actions occurred during the Obama administration, albeit more covertly. They argue that it is acceptable for the government to avoid working with firms whose advocacy conflicts with its interests, emphasizing that lawyers and clients choose each other based on their positions, and the government should not engage with firms that breach professional ethics.

No one called Obama a fascist, yet his administration persued similar goals, but in more insidious ways. This is only news because (1) Trump, and (2) he's actually being upfront and public about it, instead of secretive and manipulative. It's perfectly fine, actually, for the USG to decide they don't want to do business with a firm because of that firm's advocacy positions that are in conflict with the USG's. We don't have the cab-rank rule in the US; lawyers choose their clients, and clients their lawyers, specifically for their advocacy positions. The USG doesn't buy components from manufacturers with supply chain risks, and doesn't want to trust a firm that has demonstrated a willingness to breach professional ethics in pursuit of ideological goals. https://reason.com/volokh/2025/03/13/remember-when-the-obama-administration-pressured-baker-hostetler-to-drop-its-representation-in-house-of-representatives-v-burwell/

Remember When The Obama Administration Pressured Baker Hostetler To Drop Its Representation In House of Representatives v. Burwell? For the past two decades or so, conservatives have been systematically excluded from big law. Paul Clement was pushed out of two big law firms for his reason.com

I believe the current situation highlights a troubling misuse of executive power. The actions taken against a law firm representing political opponents, including banning federal organizations from collaborating with them and revoking security clearances, seem to be an attempt to gain an unfair advantage in legal matters. This approach, which I view as tyrannical and undemocratic, undermines the principles of our nation. I urge those who deflect criticism by comparing it to the left's actions to reconsider; this behavior stands out as particularly un-American.

his order: - banned federal orgs from working with them - revoked their security clearances - banned their employees from federal buildings - imposed secondary sanctions on any else who does business with them these range from probably illegal to definitely illegal & also insane

so he’s using the executive powers to shut his opponents out of legal counsel, thereby giving himself an advantage in court. why is this bad? using power to gain more power is tyrannical, undemocratic and un-American. it’s an attack on our nation and borderline treasonous.

if you show up in my replies complaining ‘but what about the left’, ‘but what about the woke’, I would ask you to stop being a little bіtсh. anything they did that was obviously wrong was wrong and none of it was as un-American as this is.
