Alan Shatter was the key hand in reforming the Irish Immigration system in 2010 to "make Ireland multicultural and open" Alan is one of the few Jews in Ireland and felt this reform was very important because of our historical close mindedness towards Jews in the past Yet, as the Immigration crisis has risen over the last few months He hasn't taken accountability for it at all... and instead spent the year posting about how Ireland must support Israel? Isn't he aware that his project of importing Middle Easterners and Muslim Somalis is not going to help his primary concern of securing Israel? This is a summary of the best scholarship I can find on the Jews and their religion: The Israelites emerged out of the local tribes around the hills of Jerusalem around 1500 BC There was no Exodus from Egypt, no Moses with 10 commandments, and no great conquest of a promised land under Joshua They were not monotheists but followed many Gods David and Solomon were real chiefs but they ruled over small cities, not a grand kingdom of Israel Yahweh was a pagan nationalist God like Jupiter or Wotan, at the head of a pantheon The religion was reforged in 622 BC under a great innovator Josiah into a monotheistic religion He did this because the Assyrian empire was crumbling and he wanted to carve out territory Josiah’s scribes took old stories from their own history - the Hyksos (who invaded Egypt) and the Sea People - and embellished them with Moses, Joshua, and Exodus to create a new engineered national myth Babylon conquered them soon after and this is when Yahweh evolved again into a wandering singular God with universal aspirations The genetic tests of the Israelites show they were locals Khazaer theory, Christian identity, and even religious Zionism and it’s “promised land” have no firm historical footing The Jewish religion and the Jewish people are not old, the Indo Europeans had been in Northwestern Europe for 1000 years by the time the Israelites were even emerging as a state Although, it is clear that the Jews are geniuses in religious and political organisation Their Priestly craftsmen made several brilliant innovations in weaving their mythos to direct their people In a way they’re the most skilful nationalists who ever lived, because they made their nationalism a religion

The best mental mode is that Judaism evolves over time: - Loosely pagan states of Israelites around 1000 BC, following typical religion in many ways - a real people with a real history, but get conquered by Assyria 700 BC - Assyrians are VERY violent, public skinnings, brutal - network of Jewish scribes under Assyria begin to idealise a national breakaway and reforming of the people - Isaiah does his first set of prophecies outlining this, “Judah must repent” - 80 years later, 620 BC, Josiah tries to do the breakaway, centralise in Jerusalem - works a little, but still mass paganism in countryside, then Babylon soon conquers and deports the Jewish elite - in exile new prophets like Ezikiel envision a floating YHWH who doesn’t need Temple, innovative - Elite scribes in exile contribute to reform the mythos, they retroactively write second half of Isaiah in exile (source of a lot of messiah prophecies) - motif: “Jews as suffering servants to Babylon but a messiah will come and likely a demure social activist” - Ezra and nehemiah are exactly this, social activists, subordinate to Babylon, they coordinate return from exile, Then religion again refines into second temple version - it constantly evolves, you see again in Maccabees and of course after fall into rabbic Judaism - why point out Josiah in 622BC, is that he seems a very strong “first big step” into centralisation and creation of the unified mythos - lots of scholars think his regime first wrote Deuteronomy and came up with the Exodus ideas like Joshua’s conquest
