Let's Circle back to the Lord of the Rings. It is also well-established Gollum shared likeness with Judas Iscariot. Tolkien was a devout Catholic and although he would never admit to religious allegory in his stories, the parallels run deep. Gollum calls Frodo "Master", travels with Frodo, and betrays him in the End. Gollum also dies unceremoniously as a result of the betrayal.
