reSee.it AI Summary
Indigenous peoples were once labeled as savage baby-killers, but now they are often portrayed as noble environmentalists. However, it is important to acknowledge that all societies in the past engaged in actions considered immoral today. Slavery, for instance, was prevalent worldwide, including in Africa, until the British forcefully abolished it. The West's pursuit of moral absolutes and justice independent of power is a more commendable approach to living.

Somehow, indigenous peoples went from being referred to almost exclusively as baby-killing savages to almost exclusively being referred to as noble, peace-loving ecologists! In reality, all peoples back then did terrible things by modern western standards. Slavery, for example, was standard practice worldwide, including within Africa, until a few hundred years ago and was stamped out by force primarily by the British. Might makes right and moral relativism were the global operating standards. The west has pushed for right independent of might and moral absolutism, which is a far better way to live.
