LIFE IN A TECHNOCRACY - Harold Loeb (1933) Almost 100 years ago, Harold Loeb, inspired by the teachings of Thorstein Veblen, released a book that envisioned a Government populated and ran by Technocrats... The concept of "Ergs" has very similar principles to the concept of "Transactionalism" which was pushed by fellow New School for Social Research (The University in Exile) members John Dewey and Hannah Arendt. In sociology and social psychology, Transactionalism can be seen in social exchange theory, where human relationships are analyzed through the lens of cost-benefit analysis. Interactions are seen as transactions where individuals weigh the benefits against the costs, influencing behavior, relationships, and social structures.
