Tensions are rising in New York between blacks and illegal aliens as government handouts start running out https://t.co/ssHbBPrdi1

Video Transcript AI Summary
Tensions are rising in a Queens neighborhood as NYCHA tenants and newly arrived migrants compete for limited food resources. The residents of Queensbridge houses, who rely on weekly mobile food pantries, have noticed an influx of 8,000 migrants in their community, leading to conflicts over food. Free food giveaways, especially during holidays, have become a source of tension between long-time residents and migrants. Council member Julie Yuan secured $50,000 to increase the number of hot meals served in NYCHA's, but budget cuts may exacerbate the scarcity. People are going hungry and lacking basic necessities like heat and hot water, causing frustration and further straining the community. A family feast is being organized to serve 2,000 people, testing the limits of available resources.

But she's concerned the mayor's new budget cuts will only put further stress on a community already living in scarcity. Speaker 2: People are going hungry right now. People are frustrated With not having enough to eat, not having heat and hot water in their shelters or in their houses in NYCHA, and people want to make sure that they just have our their basic needs met Like any human would anywhere, and that's what's causing the tension. The Biden administration is importing millions of third world immigrants to live here illegally, and at same time telling them that white people are the source of their problems. How’s that going to work out in the end? https://t.co/mSbXjyML7C

Video Transcript AI Summary
Affirmative action and DEI are forms of anti-white racism that put white men at a disadvantage in jobs, contracts, and schools. This undermines the idea of meritocracy and tells new immigrants that white men are the problem. The leaked video of IBM's CEO, Arvind Krishna, shows him instructing employees to hire fewer white men or face pay cuts. Another employee from Red Hat, an IBM subsidiary, revealed that those who opposed DEI initiatives were fired. These videos expose the reality of corporate America's widespread and vicious form of Jim Crow. The Civil Rights Division's Justice Department is not addressing this issue, but Stephen Miller, founder of America First Legal, is taking action. This blatant discrimination destroys lives and crushes spirits.

Speaker 0: Affirmative action and its new version, DEI, are, of course, by definition, forms of anti white racism. White men are at a structural disadvantage in getting jobs and getting contracts and getting into schools. There's kind of no pretending it's anything but what it seems to be, And most people know that. Few people understand just how corrosive this is to the country and to the idea of the country. So the arrangement that America's had with immigrants for over a 100 years has been come to our country because there is opportunity here. And implied in that is meritocracy. If you work hard, if you have ability, you can ascend the ladder. But affirmative action and now DEI invert that arrangement. New immigrants to this country are told immediately that the people who founded the country, white men, are the problem. They are evil. So not only does this inculcate racism in our immigrants, which is a terrifying prospect, but it also makes The workplace, hellscape, a sort of corporate Jim Crow structure that degrades everyone and that's inherently immoral. Arvind Krishna is a perfect example of why this is a bad idea. Krishna is an immigrant to this country. He's clearly smart. He clearly works hard. In over 30 years, he's ascended to the top of IBM. He's now the CEO. But rather than promoting the ideas that made this country great, meritocracy, He has bought in completely possibly because he has to into our racial hierarchy into our form of modern Jim Crow. So thanks to James O'Keefe, the journalist, we know what that looks like on the inside. Here is a video that was leaked to O'Keefe of Krishna, the CEO of IBM telling his employees to hire fewer white men or they will be punished. Their pay will be cut. Watch this. Speaker 1: I'm very clear about this. I expect at the executive level, so that is not just my direct, but all executives in the company Have to move forward by 1% on both underrepresented minorities? Well, let me say it, Asians in the US are not an underrepresented minority in a tech company. However, others are, ditto on gender diversity. So we take underrepresented and gender, you got to move both forward by a percentage That leads to a plus on your bonus. By the way, if you lose, you lose part of your bonus. Speaker 0: So how did An immigrant to this country who clearly has a lot going for him probably arrived here thinking this was a meritocracy, wind up supporting racial fascism? It's a great question and one we should think deeply about as tens of millions of new immigrants pour across our border. So the other man you saw in that video works for a company called Red Hat. That's a subsidiary of IBM. On that very same call, he bragged that Past employees who pushed back against corporate racism, against DEI initiatives, were fired from the company. Watch. Speaker 2: But the assertion there is no accountability around d d and I Efforts at Red Hat is really not the full picture. As Arvind very much pointed out, and I very much understand, I am accountable, I hold myself accountable, he holds me accountable, As does the board for all of IBM, but I hope we also hold the leadership at Red Hat accountable for that. I mean, I'll be very candid. Without an exception for for privacy, I could name multiple leaders over the last year plus that were held Conable to the point that they're no longer here at Red Hat because they weren't willing to live up to the standards that we set in this space. Speaker 0: So in the public conversation, affirmative action, DEI, diversity are described with the language of sensitivity and inclusion. We're just trying to bring everybody in. But in practice, and we now know this thanks to these videos and others like them, in practice, This is an even more vicious form and a much more widespread form of Jim Crow. And obviously, it's incompatible with the existence of the United States of America. So what do we do about it? Well, of course, the Civil Rights Division's Justice Department is doing nothing about it. They are affirmatively opposed to civil rights. But Stephen Miller is doing something about it. Thank you, Kevin. He's the founder of America First Legal, and he joins us now. Stephen, thanks so much for coming on. So what how would you describe what we just saw? Speaker 3: A fascinating, albeit chilling window into the reality of corporate America today. We're all familiar with DEI, diversity, equity, and inclusion. We're broadly familiar with the idea that corporations, universities, as well as Government agencies have established policies to promote or exclude people based solely on race or national origin. But to see it said so bluntly, so matter of factly that you're going to be that you're going to be punished, you're gonna be denied your Career, you're gonna have your money, your livelihood, everything that you've built your entire life taken away from you because you don't establish a specific racial quota system. You have a hypothetical kid who instead of playing every day after school, he went home and he studied. And when it was time to go to college, He spent all of his time on his test preparation. He did everything he could do, but he didn't get into the school that he wanted to get into. He got into his 6th choice or 7th choice. But when he went there, He worked harder than everybody else, and he didn't go out and party. He didn't go out and drink. He did everything right every single day of his life, but it was time to graduate. He didn't get the job he was entitled to, the salary he was entitled to. But when he got to that company, then he still he stayed late, And he put off all the things he wanted to do with his life, and he gave up so many years of his productive life hoping that one day, maybe, just maybe, his dreams would be fulfilled. And then somebody came along and said, you are not the right race. You are a straight white male. You are not getting this job. And in fact, because you haven't promoted people based on this system, Your life is over now. Then maybe that person can't afford to pay for his children anymore. Maybe that man gets a divorce. Maybe his whole life unravels. How many times does this happen in a year to thousands of people? The system is meant to crush spirits, to break people.

Immigrants with low IQs and no education come to the US, have many kids, vote Democrat, and increase population in certain states. This leads to more representation in Congress and electoral college for Democrats. The cycle continues with each generation becoming more radical and entitled. White people and Asians contribute the most to the economy, while immigrants consume resources, making the country less wealthy over time.

Speaker 0: These people come over here, their IQ is low, they have no education, they don't speak the language, and they come here and they have between 24 kids each, and they each bring in more people, and then they all vote democrat. And then during the next census, they blow up the populations of these states, and the states with the most population growth from illegals and their children get more representation in Congress, and they get more votes in in the electoral college. And when all those people become Democrats, that means the Democrats then control Congress forever, control the White House forever. And you know what they do? They these immigrants grow up and become politicians. They become AOCs and Ilhan Omar's, and they become more radical than the next generation. And that means they let in even more people, and those additional people blow up the census in 2040 and apportion more representation to these crazy immigration states, and then there's another generation that passes that's more militant than the previous generation, and this is a a snake eating its own tail. And these people that pour in, they become more foreign and stupider and more radical and more left wing and more entitled than every previous generation. And each generation devours the productivity of the country. You know who makes in this country, who creates value? White people and Asians. On net, it is whites and Asians that are putting more in to the fiscal pie than taking out in services. It is whites and Asians that are generating the wealth, that are generating the GDP, the productivity, the product. And the more foreign nationals that come in and gobble up health care and education and other government services, do you understand that the country literally becomes less wealthy over time? That all the productivity that is generated by an ever shrinking share of the population that works, that has been here long enough that, you know, they speak English, they have wealth, they have these things, eventually, all of that just gets devoured until no additional wealth, no no marginal wealth is generated. And then, eventually, the wealth that exists will be devoured until there is nothing. That's how this works.

Because the minute you call anything racist or you add race into it, black people get emotional and they come out. Kamala did the same thing because they know how to bait black people in. Here's my thing, and I've told black people this before, who are democrat. I don't try to convince democrats to be republican. Trump supporters argue that Democrats are not the best choice for financial success, as they prioritize illegal immigrants over citizens. This disparity in treatment leads them to question why citizens would continue to support a party that does not prioritize their needs.

Speaker 0: Trump. Like, no way. There's no way. Yeah. Nobody else. And what would you say to a black person that says Trump is racist and therefore you are white adjacent? I would say that they need to, like, actually pay attention he's talking about and understand that if you actually want to become successful as far as money in this country, Democrats are not who you wanna vote for. Because obviously, they're replacing they're replacing you with the with the legals. They're they're telling you to your face, they're replacing you with the legal. So I don't understand how you could still say, oh, Democrats are no. They are literally replacing you. They're giving them housing in New York. They're giving them housing everywhere else here. They're giving them $10,000 gift cards. Yep. But when you need aid, the state says, sorry, you make too much money. You're over the threshold by $500 Yep. A year. Yep. And we're not gonna help you. So if you starve, you starve. We don't care. 🔥 This is, by far, the most powerful explanation & perspective for why so many people support “mass deportation”! It is worth the listen, especially if you’re a democrat or undecided voter. https://t.co/yGNO2V6JQD

Video Transcript AI Summary
Kamala Harris is decrying the idea of a mass deportation plan, which may sound callous and unfeeling to many Americans. America is a generous country, and for people to be okay with mass deportation means something has fallen through the cracks: the consent of the people. The government did not seek the consent of the people in allowing the mass influx of immigrants. Imagine waking up and finding your community centers, hotels, and schools overrun with migrants without your consent. This is how you manufacture hate, racism, and bigotry. If the government understands that bringing in thousands of migrants without consent will engender dissatisfaction, why are they doing it, unless it is their plan to sow chaos? The generosity of Americans has never been due to government dictate or coercion; it has always been voluntary and genuine. The fastest way to create hate is to force people into a corner. Over the last three and a half years, Kamala Harris has forced Americans into a corner, and it is the speaker's hope that Americans will help her pack her bags out of the White House in November.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: Everyone, so take a listen to this Kamala clip and come right back. Speaker 1: Now they have pledged to carry out the largest deportation, a mass deportation in American history. Imagine what that would look like and what that would be. Speaker 0: So in this clip, Kamala is decrying the idea of a mass deportation plan. And for many people, the idea of mass deportation sounds callous and unfeeling and may appear to be not representative of the generosity of Americans. Now from my perspective, America is the most generous country by far. So to get people to the point where they are okay with mass deportation means something has fallen through the cracks. And the thing that has fallen through the cracks is the consent of the people. I remember when hurricane Katrina hit in 2,005, many people were displaced. And I remember Americans opening their homes, especially in Texas, to strangers who had been displaced by the hurricane in Louisiana. Many people open their homes because of their own generosity, not because the government ordered them to. And every time there's a natural disaster in America or anywhere in the world, Americans rally together and show their generosity. So to get Americans to the point where they're open to mass deportation, that tells you that the government did not seek the consent of the people in allowing the mass influx of immigrants, illegal immigrants in many cases. Imagine waking up in your town and seeing that the government overnight has dropped thousands of people onto your streets without any care on the pressure that puts on the infrastructure of the city. Imagine waking up and finding your community centers, your hotels, your schools overrun with migrants without your consent. This is how you manufacture hate. This is how you manufacture racism. This is how you manufacture bigotry because most people will not be okay with waking up in the morning and finding their home filled with strangers placed there without their consent. So the question is, if the government and the democrats who have allowed this understand that by doing this, by bringing in thousands of migrants without the consent of the people, they will engender dissatisfaction, why are they doing it? Unless it is their plan to sow chaos. And then they turn around and accuse the people who have been displaced of being xenophobic. Americans are generous, but the generosity of Americans has never been due to government dictate or coercion. It has always been voluntary and genuine. The fastest way to create hate, the fastest way to turn people against your fellow man is to force them into a corner. And over the last three and a half years, Kamala Harris, the border czar, has forced Americans into a corner. And come November 5th, it is my hope that Americans pay her back by helping her pack her bags out of the White House. Send her back home to California so she can reap the consequences of the policy she has imposed on the rest of us.

For people who are saying that illegal immigration doesn’t cost Americans jobs, that is a lie. Here is a reminder of when Tyson Foods closed down its factory and fired 1200 people so they could offer jobs to asylum seekers. For a substantially lower wage of course… https://t.co/P3CZGak0wX

Video Transcript AI Summary
Tyson Foods announced the permanent closure of its pork factory in Perry, resulting in 1,200 job losses. As the town struggles, Tyson is hiring asylum seekers from other states, tracking them in a database to fill positions. During a job fair in New York City, many asylum seekers were offered jobs in Tennessee. The company provides not only health insurance but also legal support for immigration matters. Critics argue that this practice undermines American workers by replacing them with lower-paid foreign labor. Concerns are raised about the legality of these actions and the impact on local economies, emphasizing the need for changes in immigration laws to protect American jobs and wages.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: Week, Tyson Foods announced that it will be permanently closing its pork factory in Perry, killing around 1200 jobs in a town of just 8,000 people. So as Perry residents struggle to cope with mass layoffs, Tyson Foods has its eyes on a different class of workers. The company is now offering new jobs to asylum seekers in other states like New York. Bloomberg says Tyson's tracking migrants in a massive database. They scroll through the data like Facebook. You see a worker you like, tap higher. They even had a job fair. Speaker 1: So you're at a Tyson fair in New York City not so long ago where Tyson was basically making this pitch. What did you observe when you went there? Speaker 2: They created a database, for these new asylum seekers in New York City. So these people would come in. They'd learn a little bit about the company. And for the most part, Tyson had already gone through their various details of their application. And so many of them, 17 the day I was there and then, another 70 a couple weeks later, went off to Tennessee to go start their, new jobs as, Tyson production, workers. Speaker 0: Oh, and the jobs come with perks, not just health insurance. Tyson's also offering lawyers to its illegal alien workers and time off to attend immigration hearings. In 2034, of course, they're firing Americans and offering perks to illegals. This was the Democrat plan all along. Speaker 1: Well, first of all, let's just say we are a nation of immigrants. 460,000 open jobs today. Wow. I have 5,000 farm jobs that I need filled so they can plant the crops. Speaker 3: Vegetables would rot in the ground if it weren't if they weren't being picked by many immigrants, many illegal immigrants. Speaker 4: You see even in Florida, some of the farmers and the growers saying, why are you shipping these immigrants, up north? We need them to pick the crops. Speaker 0: We reached out to Tyson for comment, and they said they have a very diverse set of employees, and they're proud of it. Ohio senator and author of Hillbilly Elegy, JD Vance, joins us now. I didn't think it was legal, senator, to ax American workers and hire en masse illegal aliens. Speaker 5: Well, it shouldn't be, Jesse, and we're certainly gonna look into whether we can change that assuming Tyson is operating legally, which we don't even know if they are. We don't know the details of this. All we know, Jesse, is that they are firing American workers and hiring illegal aliens to replace them. This is the entire point of illegal immigration, and Republicans, we've got to hammer this point home. It reduces the wages of American workers by replacing American citizens with foreign laborers who are willing to work at slave wages. It has been the plan, as you said, from the beginning, and what this means is the eradication of the American dream. Every time an American is replaced with an illegal immigrant, it means that an American family loses a good family supporting wage. It means that American companies are literally replacing our own citizens with people who will work for slave wages. That that is not capitalism or a market economy, Jesse. That is the decimation of the American middle class via illegal immigration, and it's happening all over the country. Speaker 0: And this poor town's gonna get slaughtered. All of those people laid off in such a small town, it's just gonna be have a such a tremendous impact. Are they're getting around it legally by saying we're not hiring illegal aliens. We're hiring asylum seekers. Is that how they do it? Speaker 5: Well, that's one of the ways that they do it, Jesse. And we know that the the Biden administration has made it easier to basically pretend that economic migrants are asylum seekers. It's one of the reasons why we have to change our asylum laws in this nation. But, Jesse, think about how much of a contrast this presents between the Trump economy and the Biden economy. If you go back to the Trump economy, you had American jobs going to American workers. You had wages rising. Under the Biden economy, you have those American workers getting fired and replaced with foreign labor. This is not an exaggeration. All net job creation, Jesse. You heard me right. 100% of net job creation under the Biden administration has gone to the foreign born. So we are taking an economy that produced prosperity for American citizens and turning it into economy that produces prosperity for people who probably shouldn't be here in the first place. And I I bet you know what Tyson isn't doing, Jesse. I bet they're not drug testing the illegal immigrants who are coming in. I bet they're not asking whether they're bringing Fentanyl or drugs into that small town with them. This is the end of the American dream if we let this stuff happen. We've gotta reelect Donald Trump, and we've gotta get congressional Republicans with some spine to push back against this stuff. Speaker 0: Hear, hear. Thanks for speaking out about this, and thanks for all your work with East Palestine.

There are concerns about low-wage workers replacing American jobs, leading to inflation and unfair labor practices. This situation is seen as a scheme by the Democratic Party to undermine American workers, including Black individuals. Additionally, there are issues with children being used for panhandling in unsafe conditions, which raises concerns about child endangerment. Resources should be prioritized for American citizens, as many feel that the current labor market is unfairly benefiting those who work for lower wages. This affects everyone, regardless of race, and there is a call to take action leading up to the 2024 elections to address these issues effectively.

Speaker 0: They used to say we didn't wanna work, but when slavery was out here, we used to work from sun up to sun down for free. Now they're trying to replace us with this low wage earners. Speaker 1: But the most concern is this, is that these illegals now would drive our economy to much more inflation. You're talking about big businesses, to much more inflation. You're talking about big businesses firing American workers, putting them to work for probably half to pay, no benefits. So this has been a real cruel, wicked scheme by the Democratic Party to replace not only black people, but all Americans in this economy to make money. Speaker 2: And on top of that, these kids are using as pawns all over the city. Every corner you see them with the panhandling with kids. Speaker 3: Yeah. It's just not right. They and they seem to be dropped off there. It seems very organized. So there are many issues here, and you just can't have children out. Today, it's 30:39 degrees. You can't have children outside with you panhandling. It's just it's illegal. It's it's child endangerment, and we need to take action. Speaker 0: As far as the conditions, no. I'm not jealous of these conditions. I understand, Speaker 4: what jail is like. Speaker 0: You understand me? And this is jail if you ask me. So, no, I'm not jealous of this, but I do believe the resources need to be allocated to the American people the right way. Speaker 4: Not even if it hurts the American people, but my son, he's 12 years old. I got a family. I have to survive. I I'm a general contractor, licensed general contractor, licensed and bonded in the city of Chicago. And look what is done because they come over here and put a black guy in the game. They get cheap labor. Other companies are hiring them. They doing the they they doing the work almost $7. So so it makes it hard for me. It's not right. Democrat, republican, yes. They replacing us all. No matter what color you are, orange, green, red, yellow, they're replacing us all. Speaker 1: All of these things are good, and we have to follow-up on them. But if we don't man the groundwork coming up to this 20 24 elections. All of it means nothing.

For people who are saying that illegal immigration doesn’t cost Americans jobs, that is a lie. Here is a reminder of when Tyson Foods closed down its factory and fired 1200 people so they could offer jobs to asylum seekers. https://t.co/0quh7YBPvA

Tyson Foods announced the permanent closure of its pork factory in Perry, resulting in 1,200 job losses. As the town grapples with this impact, Tyson is hiring asylum seekers in states like New York, utilizing a database to track potential workers. During a job fair, many asylum seekers were quickly offered positions in Tennessee. The company provides various perks, including legal assistance for immigration matters. Critics argue that this practice undermines American workers by replacing them with cheaper foreign labor, contributing to wage suppression and the decline of the middle class. The contrast is drawn between the current economy and the previous administration's focus on American job creation. Concerns are raised about the implications for local communities and the broader American dream.

The damage this has done to the US Economy can’t even be measured This man has been illegally working in America, he’s says he’s sent back the equivalent of $97,000 US Dollars back to Mexico to build his dream home Now multiply this by millions of illegals doing the same thing https://t.co/UsoahxFKc3

Don't send money to your family. I sent my mom money for three years to build my wealth here. I sent money every month, and sometimes weekly, totaling over two million pesos. She spent it all, only buying the land. I came to Mexico expecting to see my completed property, but my effort meant nothing. She didn't even buy materials. I just paid to have the overgrowth cleared. If you work abroad, don't send money to your family unless they are truly trustworthy. I trusted my mom, and this is how she repaid me. She spent it all and now won't answer my calls or messages. She even kicked me out of her house. My siblings don't want to see me either because they all spent my money. Don't send money to family; trust me.

I attended a "No Kings" protest in Atlanta and noticed a lack of diversity, with only a few Black attendees in a predominantly Black city. It seems that Democrats have brought illegal immigrants into Black communities, leading to protests against Trump’s actions. This might explain why many in the Black community support Trump instead.

This is a "No Kings" protest in Atlanta. What do you notice? In a city that is predominantly Black, I think I counted 5 black people in this video. Democrats flooded Black communities across the country with illegal aliens. And now they are protesting Trump removing them??? This is why the Black community came out strong for Trump and isn't interested in your goofy little protest.

Video Transcript AI Summary
There is no single pattern that applies to all immigrants. The US has roughly 11 million illegal immigrants, overwhelmingly from Mexico, and Obama issued an executive order protecting about 5 million of them. There are no immigrants "in the abstract." Immigration policy is ineffective without border control. It is unknown whether these 11 million people are doing net good or harm to the economy. The US has a chronic surplus of subsidized agricultural output. Congress should investigate the current immigrants, including their kids' performance in school, crime rate, and disease rate. Migration is not always a once-and-for-all process. Most Polish immigrants to the US lived outside of Poland before settling on American soil. Between the mid-1830s and the late 1930s, approximately 30 million people left the Indian Subcontinent, and nearly 24 million returned. Refugees seldom return, while sojourners are often predominantly male and young adults. Refugees tend to be a relatively representative sample, while sex ratios shift towards balance as migration changes from sojourning to permanent settlement. Distinguishing refugees from sojourners is difficult, especially as people abuse refugee status to circumvent immigration laws. Legitimate immigrants and refugees may find their access restricted as a result.

Speaker 0: When only 2% of immigrants from Japan to The United States go on welfare, while 46% of the immigrants from Laos do, there is no single pattern that applies to all immigrants. Everything depends on which immigrants you're talking about, and which periods of history. Okay. Here's the assignment. The period is today, and the immigrants we're talking about are the roughly 11,000,000, that seems to be the best estimate. Roughly the 11,000,000 who are in this country illegally, overwhelmingly from Mexico. President Obama has issued an executive order protecting about 5,000,000 of them from deportation and other legal penalties. A humane act. Speaker 1: Well see one one of things about the immigration debate is they talk about immigrants in the abstract, and there are no immigrants in the abstract as that passage indicates. And we don't know who those people are that that are here. They may all be PhD's from the University of Chicago, and we see they should all stay. Or they may and may in fact be people who major in sociology at Berkeley, which cases get them all out of here as soon as possible. But we don't know. That that's one of the problems of so called immigration policy. We don't have an immigration policy unless we control the border. It doesn't matter what our policy is. If anybody who wants to cross the border can cross, then our policy is just a bunch of words on paper. Speaker 0: Okay. So I think I hear you. I I think I can deduce from that set of comments two policies. One is for sure you get control of the border. Yes. That's just obvious. We get control of the border. But from that point forward, you're as dubious about the editorial position of the Wall Street Journal Mhmm. Which is consistently pro immigrant as you are dubious of the president of The United States because your point is neither one of them really knows in enough detail Yes. Who these 11,000,000 people are, whether they're doing net good or harm to the economy. So you you that's in you don't buy the Wall Street Journal argument. No. Then on net surely they're doing more good than harm. More economic good than harm. You don't buy that? Speaker 1: No. And especially when they're trying to talk about having people in agriculture. I mean this is a country that has had a chronic surplus of agricultural output for decades on end costing the taxpayers billions upon billions of dollars. Speaker 0: But because the federal government subsidizes the Yes. Of the surplus. Right? Speaker 2: Yes. Alright. Speaker 1: Yeah. Yes. In fact I I I think the federal government subsidizes the water that creates the surplus that it then subsidizes again. And I think I think that that any discussion of of people in the abstract drives me crazy because there are no abstract people. A hundred years ago people understood that, and so when there was a debate about immigration there was a multi volume set of tomes about the characteristics of the immigrants from various countries. Where where where do they how do their kids do in school. Speaker 0: They had the guts to be picky. Speaker 1: Yes. Speaker 0: They said we'll take some. Yes. But they better do us good. Speaker 1: Yes. Speaker 0: Okay. Okay. So what kind of debate would you like to Congress as I mentioned a moment ago, it just has just fallen to the control of Republicans both houses. Republicans aren't gonna be able to move much legislation because the president can still veto it. What kind of debate should they have? What kind of hearing should they hold on immigration? Speaker 1: They should find out what kind of people how how are the people that we know about now? How are their kids doing in school? What is their crime rate? What is their disease rate? All those things that matters. You know, I they brought on all these kids and I said these just kids. Well you know kids do grow up and they have other kids. We don't know. May may maybe that's a good thing. Maybe it's a bad thing. We don't have a clue. Speaker 2: Migration is not always a once and for all process, even for those who leave their homelands never to return. They may migrate from one foreign country to another before finally settling down. Most Polish immigrants to The United States, for example, lived outside of Poland before settling on American soil, and many southern Europeans lived outside their native lands before settling in Australia. Some entrepreneurial refugees from communist North Korea settled first in South Korea, then in Latin America, and finally in The United States. The story of migration is often also a story of remigration. These repeated relocations also test the persistence of a group's culture in very different settings. The many large scale relocations of Jews over many centuries, for example, has not destroyed either their cultural heritage or their cohesiveness, though both have been modified in the process. The migrations of conquerors, refugees, slaves, and sojourners have been outstripped by the migrations of those going to settle permanently in a new land. However, even during the era of mass migrations across oceans during the past century and a half, vast numbers of people have continued to return home. It has been estimated that between the mid eighteen thirties and the late nineteen thirties, approximately 30,000,000 people left the Indian Subcontinent, and nearly 24,000,000 returned, even though these Indians were scattered across thousands of miles of ocean from the South Pacific to the Caribbean to East Africa. At the other end of the spectrum, refugees seldom return, whether they have fled from famine, as among the Irish in the eighteen forties, or from persecution and mob violence, as among the Jews from Eastern Europe beginning in the eighteen eighties. Thus, during the early twentieth century, fewer than 10% of the Irish and Jewish immigrants to The United States returned, compared to about 60% of the Southern Italian, Croatian, and Slovenian immigrants to The United States who returned home during the same era. In the last decade of the twentieth century, the return flow of immigrants to Hong Kong was only 6% of those leaving, again, a refugee movement in anticipation of China's takeover of the colony in 1997. The widely varying reasons for migration have been reflected in very different patterns among the migrants. Refugees tend to be a relatively representative sample of the population from which they come, as far as age, sex, and other demographic characteristics are concerned, while sojourners are often predominantly male and predominantly young adults. During the era of mass emigration from China, Japan, and Italy, male emigrants outnumbered female emigrants several times over, whether their destinations were The United States, Latin America, Asia, or Australia. Where a migration begins to change in character from one of sojourning to one of permanent settlement, the sex ratio typically begins to shift, sometimes dramatically, toward one of male female balance. The earlier male predominance among the immigrant group may be followed by female majorities among later immigrants, and, of course, sex balanced offspring among descendants of the immigrants who are born in the new land. Sometimes, the movement toward a balancing of the sexes is aided by a higher rate of return home among males still following the sojourning pattern, while females tend to stay. Often, the females are the wives of those men who have decided to remain, whether or not that was their original intention, and who therefore send for their families to join them. Among groups where arranged marriages have been common, the women who migrate may be joining fiances whom they marry upon arrival. This was once common among Japanese immigrants to Canada and The United States and was not unknown among Italian immigrants to Australia, especially for those men who could not afford a long trip back to Italy to find a bride. While refugees are, in principle, distinguishable from sojourners or other kinds of migrants, in practice, this distinction has often been difficult to make. This has been especially so in the late twentieth century, when national and international policies designed to provide humane access to other countries for refugees have been taken advantage of by people declaring themselves to be refugees from persecution in order to circumvent immigration laws. Professional smugglers of illegal immigrants have included among their services briefing these immigrants on the fabrication of stories to tell in order to gain asylum. Moreover, even freelance illegal immigrants often know that representing themselves as refugees increases their chances of being allowed to stay. The losers in this process include the legitimate immigrants and refugees who may find their access restricted as a result of the political backlash against other immigrants who abuse the trust and generosity of the receiving country.
