5/ Emanuel Celler was instrumental in passing the Voting Rights Act of 1965. What most people don't know is that the bill was drafted inside a synagogue after the murder of 2 jеws during Mississippi Freedom Summer of 1964. jеws made up 50% of the protests during that summer! 6/ Emanuel Celler, along with significant support from the jеwish lobby, helped ram the Fair Housing Act of 1968 through congress as well. The FHA made it illegal to discriminate in the selling or renting of private housing on the basis of race or national origin. It was passed in the wake of the MLK Jr. assassination. This is important to understand because the Fair Housing Act had already failed to pass in 1966 & 1967, and was stalled again in congress in 1968. The problem was that it's a gross violation of private property rights. But because of the momentum from the assassination and the resulting riots in 100 cities across America, LBJ was able to pressure congress to pass it--again with the help of Celler.

MLK gave his famous speech announcing his formal opposition to the war on April 4th, 1967. He was assassinated exactly one year later on April 4th, 1968. 11/ "The Solution," continued: Even though the riots had been sparked by alleged police brutality, the Kerner Commission concluded that lack of Black access to housing in White areas was one of the root causes of the riots! That's literally what they reported in their findings, published on February 29, 1968--just 5 weeks before MLK was murdered! They recommended several solutions, but curiously only the Fair Housing provisions were passed by congress. That's all there seemed to be money or support for. What are the odds?!
