And they're being turned away because the applications hasn't been approved or pen being. And, like, and the only way they'll be able to get aid or help is is to they sign up through FEMA, where a lot of these a lot of these families have elderly who are computer literate, where they don't know how to do it or they Speaker 1: don't know what to do. Speaker 0: What do you think now? The only thing we're getting is Ella, what do I'm just asking for the Speaker 1: president to see when he when he comes next week on Monday. This is where all of the big resorts are, I'm kind of on the south part of Kaanapali looking south, and it looks like Front Street, Lahaina Town, Lahaina Luna, there's a serious fire. I don't know how far south it goes. I'm looking towards Lanapopo and Olahu. We haven't had power for a long time, the hurricane force winds that took out the power. We don't have reception. So I don't really know what's going on, but there's definitely a very significant fire, a different fulcrum flying into the, into the ocean there. And there's a lot of black smoke. And as I pan out here, normally you would see Lanai and you would see Moakai, which are 2 neighboring islands, but they are just totally obstructed by black smoke. I'm going to try to hike further up the mountain I don't need to get more footage, and I'll try to get more information, and, hopefully, I'll be able to upload this at at some point.

Speaker 0: I was in my truck going to check on some, customers' properties, and all of a sudden, all the roads were being blocked off right in front of me and I'd from the cops, and I would go to the next street and that would be blocked off and the next one and they just blocked everything off, forced everybody down on front street in which then the flames were coming over our vehicles, not on our vehicles, but the flames are coming over top of our vehicles. Speaker 1: What street do you want at this point in time? Speaker 0: Front Street. Speaker 1: You're on Front Street itself? Yep. So you got directed onto Front Street? Yep. Where did you start when you started this journey? Speaker 0: I was going down the highway, and they blocked it off and wouldn't let go any further. Speaker 1: So you were coming from Laniapocco? Speaker 0: No. I was coming from, Huayaculi. Why? Speaker 1: Okay. So you're heading south. Speaker 0: You're heading south. And then they they stopped they stopped us from going up on the bypass, then they wouldn't let me go past the bypass to the other exits to go up there. Then So you Speaker 1: couldn't go up the bypass? Speaker 0: No. And then then all of a sudden, they said, everybody's off. Get off this highway, go down this way, down into town, then they started blocking everything off there. And then you were down on Front Street, And I got all the way down to Safeway. Speaker 1: So you got corralled onto Front Street. You started on the Honepilani Highway, And you ended up on Front Street? Yes. Speaker 0: Couldn't go anywhere. They just said go north, go north, go north. And then when we got on Front Street, embers were coming over the buildings and landing on our vehicles. And we're all in a line trying to get to the end of Front Street to go north like they told us to, not knowing that the police blocked off the end of Front Street so nobody could move. And then everybody panicked and they all started dry everybody went up on the sidewalks and through yards, took out the other lane. Nobody and then all of a sudden nobody could move anywhere. So all I did was try to inch my way over to another yard and drive up through a sidewalk, come back around, and then I went. The cops were moving around one exit, so I ended up getting up on the highway even though they're trying to direct me another way, and then I hightailed it to home. Speaker 1: So you basically had to climb up on sidewalks And go against what the cops were telling you you could do. You had to you had to break traffic laws, essentially. Speaker 0: Basically. Yeah. Speaker 1: I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just saying the only way to do it was to Crossed that line, essentially. Speaker 0: Nobody could move, and nobody knew where where to go. And I said, I'm getting out of here no matter what. Speaker 1: Right. Speaker 0: I just I went. And then they started following me, and then I got to my house. And And your house is where? Wyakuli. It was right by the chart house just across the highway. Speaker 1: Okay. Okay. Speaker 0: And, then I I thought I was safe there. I didn't think it was gonna be that big of a deal. There was a fire downtown. Okay. I understood, but I didn't think it was gonna affect everybody. Speaker 1: Right. Speaker 0: And then all of a sudden, our neighbor came over and said, you need to get out of here now. And we're like, what's going on? Because we didn't hear no sirens. No nothing. And then we found out that they didn't wanna sound the sirens because that would direct everybody up onto the high grounds, which would have solved a lot of problems. Speaker 1: Like a tsunami warning warning. Yeah. Speaker 0: They didn't wanna confuse people with a tsunami warning. Speaker 1: How did you find that out? Speaker 0: Several, several people said that. Actually, they're saying it on the radio now. Speaker 1: So somebody made a call to not sound the siren because it would come That's what we heard. Interesting. Speaker 0: But you did not get evacuated? I even stopped at the roadblock to go to the other side to pick up supplies for people. Speaker 1: Yeah. Tell us what happened that night. Speaker 0: So it was at my is where the barricade was. And I Speaker 1: And you were told you could leave and come back and get stuff. Speaker 0: Said, look. I'm going across right there to the gas station to get gas and ice and come right back. Can I leave and come back? Speaker 1: You're asking this to the to the police officer at the blockade Yes. In Malaya on the on the Pali, right there after the Pali. Okay. Speaker 0: So I went there, got my gas, got right back in line and to come back, and they blocked us off and said nobody can go to the west side. This is crazy considering you can’t use medical equipment if it’s incinerated by a fire. Just another excuse to avoid accountability. The state of the art “all hazard” sirens never went off. Herman Andaya (Maui EMA director) who was in charge of making the decision to turn on the sirens said he didn’t regret it. The next day he resigned due to “health issues”. No cell service and no loudspeaker either. There was no warning of any sort. People were in their houses and completely unaware until it the fire was close. There was a fire earlier and the Maui Fire Department said it was “100% contained”. The police allowed incoming traffic into the town coming from Kaanapali but closed the road off on the other side due to a downed line that wasn’t even blocking the road. This caused a gridlock. Residents' water was turned off with no way to protect their houses. Firefighters ran out of water and were denied access by Kaleo Manuel (DLNR’s deputy director for water resource management) until it was too late. This unnecessarily put firefighters at even greater risk. I am especially embarrassed with leadership treating locals like criminals. They immediately enacted a roadblock (they could’ve just closed the fire zone) and implemented a military-enforced curfew 10pm - 6pm. There has also been a near-total media block in the fire zone. This is unconstitutional! Many residents believe they have been soft selling the body count and knew they were hundreds of bodies that they collected the first day. Most of which are likely to be children who stayed home, without any cell service or power. Rumors of them filling containers with bodies and stacking them up in non refrigerated buildings. I suspect they’re trying to keep numbers down until the news cycle is over. Despite not providing aid themselves, they have made it incredibly hard for residents to help by blocking the wharf and turning away boats with local aid, they blocked the roads, FEMA has been confiscating pallets of aid claiming it’s not fema approved items and they are not trained to distribute them. Maui’s Mayor Bissen has acted like a bully throughout this entire mess. Just recently he threw a fit and tried to close down the press conference after a reporter asked “how many children are missing?” The people need transparency and accountability and independent reporters who won’t be bullied!”

MISES À JOUR SUR HAWAII : Je sors d'une réunion au cours de laquelle j'ai été informé par un membre du bureau du maire de faits nouveaux qui ne sont pas rendus publics. Je ne suis pas un théoricien de la conspiration et je ne veux pas créer de problèmes, mais voici ce que j'ai entendu. Le nombre de morts devrait être supérieur à 500, mais inférieur à 1 000. La plupart des victimes seront des enfants qui étaient à la maison parce qu'ils avaient annulé l'école, que les parents travaillaient et qu'ils n'étaient pas là pour évacuer les enfants. Les enfants ne savaient pas qu'ils devaient partir et lorsqu'ils ont remarqué que leur maison ou leur appartement était en feu, il était trop tard. Le gouvernement s'inquiète de notre réaction lorsque nous apprendrons que les pompiers ont quitté le feu plus tôt dans la journée et ont affirmé qu'il était maîtrisé à 100 %, sachant que les vents devaient souffler à 70 milles à l'heure dans l'après-midi. Cela va à l'encontre de tous les protocoles de lutte contre les incendies : Les pompiers n'auraient pas dû laisser l'incendie initial sans surveillance. Ils ont peur que les appels à la responsabilité du public dépassent leur capacité de contrôle et que des protestations et des émeutes se produisent. Ils prévoient de boucler Lahaina pendant plusieurs mois. Il faudra des mois pour nettoyer la contamination dangereuse et environnementale.
