Bridget Phillipson - who is about to become Britain's education secretary

@BBCPolitics - BBC Politics

“There are trans people within society and their existence should be recognised” Shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson says parts of the government’s guidance for transgender children in schools had “partisan and unnecessary language” #BBCLauraK https://bbc.in/3xudv4O

Video Transcript AI Summary
The speaker addresses a politician about the government's draft guidance on gender identity in schools, which includes a ban on teaching the concept of gender identity. The politician states the guidance is under consultation and clarity is needed for schools to manage this sensitive area. A Labour government would ensure guidance is provided, prioritizing children's well-being and avoiding political exploitation of the issue. While some elements of the draft guidance are acceptable, others are too partisan. The politician would review consultation responses, work with parents, young people, and professionals to address outstanding issues, and avoid ministerial disputes. The politician affirms the existence and right to recognition of trans people, especially vulnerable ones needing support. Clear guidance is needed for schools to support children experiencing distress around their well-being, and a responsible, serious approach is necessary.

Speaker 0: There are lots of things that schools in the twenty twenties have to grapple with. One of them has been the concept of gender identity. Now the government published some draft guidance, which included banning teaching the idea of the concept of gender identity. It's due to start being used later in the year. If you win the election, will that still happen? Speaker 1: I'm afraid that just to say I'm not sure that's quite right in that the government published draft guidance which was subject to consultation. The consultation is closed at the point at which the election was called. That was being considered in terms of the in terms of the response. So expectation that the principal would be Speaker 0: brought in later Speaker 1: in the year. Of guidance, I think, is an important one. That's what I hear from school leaders across the country. They want clarity on how to manage what is a sensitive and difficult area for them. I think what we do need to see on this, we absolutely do need to see guidance. The Labour government, if we win the trust of the British people, we'll make sure that happens. But let's make sure that children's well-being is at the heart of this. Let's stop this being a political football. This is our children's lives, their well-being. It's too important to make this a culture wars issue on the front pages of newspapers. Let's take a more responsible approach, give schools the clear guidance that they need, and make sure that our young people are supported Speaker 0: as well. But my question is what would your guidance be? What do you believe teachers should be advised to do? Because what the Conservative government has suggested they would do is ban the teaching of the concept of gender identity. Speaker 1: So I believe many Speaker 0: Is that what you would tell schools to do too? Speaker 1: Many aspects of the draft had good and straightforward principles in it. Other elements of it I think drifted far too much into partisan and unnecessary language that I think makes it harder for schools to navigate this. So if I were education secretary, I'd want to look at all of the responses that we've received to the consultation. I know that for example school leaders have flagged areas that they feel is still outstanding within the guidance. We would want to look at that, do it responsibly, work with parents, with young people, and with the profession to get this right. This has been ministers have been rowing about this for months and months. That is not the way Speaker 0: to deal with such issues. On this point because it's a very sensitive issue, it's of great importance to some people, and some teachers have felt very anxious about this. So you say some elements of the of the plan are okay, some are not, but would you ditch the ban on teaching the concept of gender identity? There are trans people within society and their their existence should be recognized. So you wouldn't ditch that? Speaker 1: They had no. This is this drifts I think sometimes into a slightly bizarre conversation. There are trans people, they have a right for their existence to be recognized, many people many trans people are vulnerable and are deserving of support. Alongside that we've got to make sure that schools have got clear guidance about how best to support children and young people that are experiencing distress and issues around their well-being. That is not well served by ministers picking fights, seeking headlines. Let's take a more responsible approach. Let's take the heat out of it. Let's do this properly and seriously.

Several UK police forces have faced controversy over their recruitment of individuals who identify as transgender. Instances include officers or advisers engaging in defamatory behavior, hoarding banned weapons, attacking others, and promoting racism and misogyny. These incidents raise concerns about the suitability of these individuals for their roles within the police force.

The UK police have recruited several men who 'identify' as women to work as officers or advisers in the last three or four years. Here's a thread on how that's working out so far

@ripx4nutmeg - ripx4nutmeg

PC Watson allegedly targeted people on social media over a period of several months due to their belief that men aren't women, sending thousands of tweets containing defamatory lies. Leicestershire Police initially refused to stop him. He's now been arrested and suspended

In ongoing discussions regarding vaccine mandates within VICPOL, a senior official allegedly offered the author an exemption in exchange for silence. The author, representing around 200 members, had been leading these negotiations. The offer was verbal, not written. The author believes their case was not unique, explaining the absence of senior leaders speaking out.

@Just_Krystle_M - Krystle Mitchell 💚🤍💜

This does not surprise me at all. CONFESSION - VICPOL senior brass offered me the opportunity to have an 'exemption' if I stayed quiet. This was during ongoing correspondence with the Chief Commissioners office about the proposal of vaccine mandates across the entire organization. I was leading those discussions on behalf of around 200 members. We have email correspondence of those negotiations (that led no where) It was a verbal offer naturally (they're not that stupid to put it in writing). But I absolutely believe my case was not unique, and it's why we saw no senior leaders speak out.

Speaker 0: What do we do if someone refuses to be tested? Well, they can't now. If someone refuses in our, facilities to be tested, they have to keep staying, so they won't be able to leave after 14 days. They have to stay on for another 14 days. So it's a pretty good incentive you either get your tests done and make sure you're cleared, or we will keep you in a facility longer.

Speaker 0: Chris Lynch Local News with box man, bio hire our shipping containers, both new and used, available right here in Christchurch. Speaker 1: Ann joining me now is New Zealand First Leader Winston it's nice to see you. How are you? Speaker 2: We're very good. It's been a long campaign as we know, and I left we last spoke with Anita this morning, and they've been in quitechurch all day. And, yes, going back Speaker 1: was looking, as I was saying to you off here, I was looking at your schedule and you are going all over New Zealand. I felt tired looking at it. You're feeling like it's, it's coming to an end or you're rearing to go. Speaker 2: Well, actually, we said, it would be great if it was another 3 weeks. We could really wrap this up pretty good. But, you know, it's the case of a country, the size of the UK, we've got to get around it as fast as we can. Speaker 1: I want to talk about, by the way, the reception you have been getting in Christchurch because that's where you've been over the weekend, but I wanna ask a couple of other questions too that I think are quite important at the moment. Mister Peters, over 11,000 health workers received vaccine exemptions while the public was being urged to vaccinate. Now, in an official information at request, which has been released, Matt Hennett from Tifatahora confirmed a 103 application covering these workers from 13th November to 2021 to 20 of September 2022. What's your reaction to this? Speaker 2: I had great difficulty believing it was true, but I understand it is true. Which shows the discrimination that we're on where people were just mandated out of their jobs, whilst these exemptions were taking place And there were the odd cases that were telling this, and 2 of them were successful, but this is a mass disclosure of, deception and discrimination. And, it's just not a meta being sort of conspiracy theorist or going down a rabbit hole If the mainstream media can't see how seriously dysfunctional and discriminated it was towards people, who had legitimate services have the right to say, I don't agree, and they don't deserve to be in their jobs. That's the the main that's the mainstream media. I mean, this this is awful. We saw that. I thought, this can this has gotta be a fix. It's gonna be trying to so we're trying to get that misinformation. Well, I yeah. Speaker 1: Well, to be honest with you, Winston, I thought the same. I was looking at it and looked legitimate. I may some, calls to the Ministry of Health. They said they couldn't comment you had to talk to Tifat ora. Tifat ora said you have put an official information at request because the questions were too in-depth. Put in a request to another to find a oral organization or a subsidiary, and they said, we can't answer these questions and the minister of health police office said to me, you have to go back to the Ministry of Health for those comments because they were too much of an operational matter they said. So I thought, well, we must be onto something if things are going around in circles. Now I wanna give them the benefit down, it may turn out to be not quite as bad. Speaker 2: We're a democracy, and this is a government that claimed it would be the most transparent ever. Now you see what a lie that was, and we're still didn't even strive to be transparent thought that they could cover it up and get away with it. Take even said this information is out now. Speaker 1: I wanna move on to this taxpayer union courier poll that was out morning I understand, and this poll apparently suggests that New Zealanders doubt your claim that New Zealand first wouldn't support Labour's return to government. What's your response to that? Speaker 2: I don't know. Any time for that courier poll because I caught them during this campaign, putting out a, poll which didn't have any deal with the first garment. I pulled it from out in 5 hours later. They tried to say I was a mistake. Sorry. I've got the transcript of my information where I said, this is up, Pauline. Can't you guys even be honest about it? So on that matter, let me tell you this. If they don't know anybody, now they never will. Speaker 1: You've already started a course on Twitter over the over the past couple of days too that you won't work with labor. I guess there's no love between you and Labour, when you've got a Chris Hopkins stating there, and I quote Winston Peters and New Zealand first values aren't compatible with labors. I wonder what your thoughts were Speaker 2: on those comments. It's it's nice to say, and you know why mister Espin's because your values and your present Labour Party values as Chris Potter wrote in a very insightful article recently, are not labors values either. You've forgotten you or a new manor woman. We got a cost of living crisis, And day after day, it was like, because you're appearing on TV eating sausage rolls. In a cost of living crisis, you can't get anything right. And you're right about your values not being mined. Thank heavens for that. But there are people in the old national labor party who would say Winston Peters values are more like mine. Speaker 1: I get the impression, not with all labor party MPs, but it seems like they're being influenced by the radicals on social media, the radicals on Twitter, and perhaps they have missed or misread the mood of New Zealanders, I say that judging by the current political polls. What do you say? And what do you think I don't wanna spend this entire time talking about why labor's falling in the polls, but what do you what do you think has gone wrong for them? Speaker 2: Yes, because they've just forgotten that the the democracy is about the people and that runners elitist, you know, the latest platform of policies was done affecting too. Real New Zealanders to make this thing a lot of against on the cost of living another 40% We'll say we have to make some serious adjustments to get by. There's 70% of these units, and they're not making any connection with them whatsoever. And that's disappointing, but I'm trying to labor voters, look. Labor stopped and likely so, but you must have vote for him, Winston Peterson. If you're on 1st somebody to be in the room, making sure that governance is for all the people and not an elite, whether it be on the far left or the far right. Speaker 1: Mr. Peter's after meeting meeting New Zealanders with your, horrific schedule up and down New Zealand, including Christchurch over the weekend, What has surprised you in terms of what people are saying about the state of New Zealand? What's the feedback you're hearing that has surprised you? Speaker 2: I can't say that we have monitored like that other than to say the recession has been marvelous, especially, and most importantly from young people, there is also that quiet person that's looking almost like he's angry with you, but only wants to say in his quiet voices, Get rid of these guys as hard as you can, but they're whispering it to me. And so they don't trust the actual system to speak out loud, and that's why we know there's a surge on, and there'll be big kangon legend there. Speaker 1: You've mentioned in the past previously, and I'm paraphrasing here about democracies being threesome, separatism, and social engineering. Can you just outline specifically what you mean? Because a Hero Powell did say that me, New Zealanders felt like never before this country has felt divided. Speaker 2: Was delivered. They set out to undermine the treaty of White Tony by restating what it was when totally falsity with it that setting up. The poor premises that setting up was that, and before the white man arrived, this was a peaceful paradise saying that the Maureen partnership with the Queen Victoria on the 6th February 40 with no one in the UK. Or in the Hong Kong, which a son never said, wasn't a partnership. The third thing they say is we never see this sovereignty. This is colossal stuff now. And the cool thing is they that day on that day co guns began. All that debunked by famous scholars and politicians later up on another, Pormay, it's DeMari, Pormay, to beat it back at famous anthropologists. And before him, famous politician called Carol or Maury, All rooms did nothing of the sort, leaving notebooks about it, but, no, no, here comes out of the sociological park universities, new construction based on a massive lie, And it is worse than this. It's not just racism and apartheid. It is elitism of a very worse sort. And, boy, if you look around the world, there are countries where the elite land things and the mass majority are conformist or they're dictated to, It's not a democracy. Now they're gonna be best in the mainstream media to try and defend this because that'd be part of it. In their, apologetic way they've handled it. Instead of inspecting these things, they've just gone on saying, it's fine. Why do you expect things? If you're saying that your racist nurse is not that we just found the Marine and Coastal Arias legislation in the Christchurch press today, is sitting out the fact that it's illegal. Now that that bill came in because they just thought they would repeal what I'd put the up together with Ellen Clark, and called the for Sean seabed legislation. So we had 6 years of absolute peace and all of a sudden, John Keith decided he and Philipson knew better. Here at times, just yesterday, the court's saying it's illegal. What I missed, but they signed up to the U. S. Declaration that I stopped as well. And it also is that the opens to the city under labor, it's under an excellent act, which had unelected May awards. In the southbound, the whole of border is going to be controlled by NATO. Feel about all the rest of the people from Ireland around down here as well, and all the rest of the Europeans, maybe on the south island. And this is bit like over and over again in every system. It's far better than you think. It's far more sinister, do you think? And this collection is one of those inflation matters, whether we're the victim or we're heading to the 3rd world. That's how important it is. Speaker 1: Mr. Peter's police reported several days ago that the malte party candidate's home wasn't racially targeted or rammed rated as claimed by the candidate. Speaker 3: To the people who rammed rated my house, Speaker 1: In fact, they went on to blame you and your so called rhetoric. I wondered what your take is on the married party's credibility after the police in a roundabout way suggested that what was espoused by the candidate and the Marie party was bullshit. Speaker 2: Oh, look, this is a publicity stunt. And when Rebecca White had a god made Sunday, Saturday morning a week ago, I said to her, this was not a home invasion. This was not a home invasion. I knew it, mom and I heard about it, and long come the police set of deduct the whole thing as kind as they can and they've actually framed it as a advertising stunt, but there's a precedent in the United States where similar political claim was made. They've always been tragically happened to them, and they've found out within very quick time. Was it Jesse Smollett? Oh, he's a smaller case that it was total build dust. Total build dust. When I heard it, I thought Be careful. It won't be amazing because she wasn't home. Good evening. New Zealand is a small country. This has made it difficult for its voice to be heard internationally. Speaker 1: Finally, Mister Peters, I mean, you have had an illustrious career in politics. I wondered why you'd bother going back or wanting to get back into the parliament building when you could be relaxing, chilling out, doing your own thing. Speaker 2: A whole lot of people must trust me, keep asking me that and for good reasons. And I can think of all the great things, you know, the building out on the boat and join yourself and all the things that go with freedom, but Whether you believe we're not or whether you have anybody viewing this today, we're not. I'm on a mission because I can I think this is an inflection relation? We just have to win, but not just to change the government. We gotta get rid of these policies. We have got the clean and the system up. And go back to valuing all of our DNA, you know, whether you're a female or female or young or someone, it doesn't have your ear now legally. I want one country, want people one flag One will for everybody in one boat where every boat is a equal value. When I hear somebody from the my party saying that they've got superior DNA. Which is what part of my leader said. I'm just shocked by that. Shop not for his stupidity, but shocked by way the mainstream media will Brown beaten into accepting that for the disgrace of this or within the other leader, madam of Davidson said that all violence is from cis white men. Speaker 3: I am a prevention violence minister, and I know who causes violence and we're That was white cis men. That was white cis men. Speaker 2: You see what happened there? If I understand something like that, I would have been scoffed out of town, but, no, over and over again, this is happening. So we have to also have a world commission and fixed up our media Speaker 1: That would be nice when the New Zealand 1st, leader Winston Peters. Thank you so much for your time. Appreciate it. Speaker 2: Well, thank you. And you know what? It's great to have many of you with somebody's interest in what they'll say and not turn another soft, but every time we open our mouth. Speaker 1: I do try.

The OIA information I received reveals that Bloomfield and the Working Group International Health Regulations (WGIHR) plan to bypass Article 55 of the International Health Regulations. The Ministry of Health has redacted information about the WGIHR in their OIA response, citing legal privilege. Transparency is lacking, and the government should release the information. Stay tuned for more updates.

@MurfittTauranga - Kirsten Murfitt

This OIA information I received on Friday is interesting. We know that Bloomfield has confirmed on behalf of the Working Group International Health Regulations ("WGIHR") that they will circumvent Article 55 of the current International Health Regulations, which allows state parties four months to consider any amendments prior to the World Health Assembly in May 2024. The amendments which have been worked on behind closed doors since early 2023 should have been released yesterday, being 27 January 2024. Why has the Ministry of Health, via the Public Health Agency, redacted information about the WGIHR their OIA response? They are claiming that the reason to withhold satisfies section 9(2)(h) of the Official Information Act 1982 as there is legal privilege. Where is the transparency given we fund the Government and our elected representatives are meant to represent us and be accountable? If there is nothing to see, they should release the information. More interesting information to come. @winstonpeters @TanyaUnkovichMP @nzfirst @ShaneJones_MP

The Scottish Hate Crime Act has come into effect, but women gain no additional protections. Trans activist Beth Douglas falls within a protected category. Convicted rapists and sex offenders are misgendered and referred to as women. The Act is criticized for prioritizing the feelings of men over the rights of women and girls. It is argued that the Act allows for the silencing of those who speak out against the elimination of single-sex spaces, unfairness in sports, and the taking of women's opportunities by trans-identified men. The re-definition of 'woman' has consequences for women's rights and safety. The accurate description of biological sex is deemed criminal, limiting freedom of speech and belief. The author anticipates being arrested upon returning to Scotland.

🎉🌼🌸April Fools! 🌸🌼🎉 Only kidding. Obviously, the people mentioned in the above tweets aren't women at all, but men, every last one of them. In passing the Scottish Hate Crime Act, Scottish lawmakers seem to have placed higher value on the feelings of men performing their idea of femaleness, however misogynistically or opportunistically, than on the rights and freedoms of actual women and girls. The new legislation is wide open to abuse by activists who wish to silence those of us speaking out about the dangers of eliminating women's and girls’ single-sex spaces, the nonsense made of crime data if violent and sexual assaults committed by men are recorded as female crimes, the grotesque unfairness of allowing males to compete in female sports, the injustice of women’s jobs, honours and opportunities being taken by trans-identified men, and the reality and immutability of biological sex. For several years now, Scottish women have been pressured by their government and members of the police force to deny the evidence of their eyes and ears, repudiate biological facts and embrace a neo-religious concept of gender that is unprovable and untestable. The re-definition of 'woman' to include every man who declares himself one has already had serious consequences for women's and girls’ rights and safety in Scotland, with the strongest impact felt, as ever, by the most vulnerable, including female prisoners and rape survivors. It is impossible to accurately describe or tackle the reality of violence and sexual violence committed against women and girls, or address the current assault on women’s and girls’ rights, unless we are allowed to call a man a man. Freedom of speech and belief are at an end in Scotland if the accurate description of biological sex is deemed criminal. I'm currently out of the country, but if what I've written here qualifies as an offence under the terms of the new act, I look forward to being arrested when I return to the birthplace of the Scottish Enlightenment. If you agree with the views set out in this tweet, please retweet it. #ArrestMe #AprilFools #HateCrimeActScotland 11/X

@c_plushie - Coronavirus Plushie

This interview, done the day after police trashed camp freedom and forcibly removed the anti mandate protesters from parliament grounds, perfectly exemplifies why both @nzlabour and the mainstream media massively lost favour with the New Zealand public. And as for Grant Robertson, I wanted to tag him, along with @JohnJCampbell, but it looks like Grant didn’t just retire from politics, he retired from X as well. Note: the @nzdsos doctors get a mention in this one too.

Speaker 0: We're joined now by, the deputy prime minister, but more importantly perhaps in this case, the MP for this area, Wellington Central MP Grant Robinson. Good morning. Tell me about what you think when you see this. Speaker 1: Look, it's been an incredibly distressing time for Wellingtonians over the last 3 weeks. Not only have they been harassed and spat at and and bullied, but they've also seen the city that they love be trashed. And especially this area here, you know, this is where Wellingtonians come and have their lunch and kids come out and play, and it's just been so so Speaker 0: sad. It's important to stress that this isn't about the right to protest. In fact, I'm sure in my youth I attended protests here on Speaker 1: And and lead protests on to here, John, when I was the student president, and I've been part of many protests here. And I think that's actually one of the great things about New Zealand is you can come right to the seat of power to send your message, and we've got to protect the right to peaceful protest. That's not what this was. This was an unlawful process protest that had, malignant forces behind it, manipulating easily manipulated people into what was yesterday's events. So, no, this is not about peaceful protest. We must protect that. Speaker 0: Can I pick up on the phrase malignant people? They're still they're not here today, but they're still somewhere today. So how do we talk to them? Because they are still amongst us. They're still part of the story of us. What do we do now? Speaker 1: Yeah. And I think it's really important to almost distinguish there, isn't it? There are people who were out there who have, you know, fears and irrational fears sometimes that have been stoked in them, who one day might wake up and realize that they were misled and that the misinformation they heard wasn't real. And they're gonna be some really hard conversations for whanau to have with each other over the coming years as we work our way through that. But there are also forces here which, you know, we see internationally, which are about, you know, the right wing, the alt right, some like to call it, who want to drive divisions in society, and we can't let them do that in New Zealand. So I think we do have to distinguish that. There are people here who've been severely led astray over the last couple of years, and and they'll come back many of them and we're gonna have to work hard to to bring them back into our whanau. Speaker 0: I don't know how the hell we get this right. It's really hard. Do we need to engage with people better and earlier before the malignant forces turn this into something dark and angry and violent? Is it about and immediately I asked this question, people out there are gonna say, I just held up a brick with the police commissioner. 1 of the bricks that was thrown at their offices yesterday yesterday. And people are gonna say, they were throwing bricks at police officers, threatening to hang politicians, presumably you amongst them, abusing so we on the record, some of these people were violent. But before we get to that stage, should we be better at engaging so that the conspiracy theorists, the cynical, the violent don't get to take control? Speaker 1: Yeah. And and just to pick up on your introductory comment, this is what the prime minister said yesterday. We can never excuse what happened yesterday. It was appalling, and I I think the police and the emergency services for their bravery once again. But we also do need to look at those people who get swept and carried along in these movements. And it is part of us making sure that as a society, we support strong public media, that we have in our schools, things like New Zealand history is being taught, that we actually do the basic bedrock building of our And that means disagreeing, but disagreeing in such a way that upholds those values that matter to New Zealand. There's no one answer. There's no one single thing here, but I do understand the point you're making. But again, nothing excuses what we saw yesterday. Speaker 0: Strong public media. There's a sign down there on the ground. Actually, it's gone. Someone's removed it, but it said the media are the virus. So they're talking about me, presumably, and my colleagues. I was up north and I chatted to a glorious woman who said, John Campbell, I'm not getting the vaccine. I said, why not? And she said, because spoon stick to you and it's really dangerous. I said, where did you see that? And she said, on Facebook. And this is the issue, isn't it? This is the issue with the Trump crowd. We've left them to the predations of the Murdoch empire. We've lost these people. How hell do we get them back? Speaker 1: And that's true, John. I mean, the algorithm manages what you see when you're on Facebook. And so we do need and we are working with those large social media companies about what their responsibilities are, and the prime minister began that work in the wake of March 15th with the Christchurch call. And people do need to find people in their communities that they trust, and when they hear misinformation from people they trust, then you've got a really big problem. Speaker 0: That's your problem. Speaker 1: And so we have to work our way through that, and everyone's got a responsibility. You know, we've had doctors in New Zealand tell other New Zealanders things about the vaccine that just aren't true and that the medical council's been going through and some of those people have been suspended. We have all got roles and responsibilities here, This is not easy and it's global. And John, we've experienced it here in New Zealand, and many of us maybe thought we never would, but we have. But I guess I do wanna make a point, it's not a massive division in New Zealand society. The vast bulk of people have got together and supported one another to get through COVID. Now I reckon that's the legacy of COVID, not this, but actually that New Zealanders gave a damn about each other and worked hard to get through it together. So, yep, we've got some people who've splinted off, and we're gonna have to work hard with them. But most New Zealanders have got on board. Doesn't mean they also bought the government or anything like that, but they've got on board with looking after each other and I reckon today we need to remember that. Sirens behind us. Always in Wellington, you know that. Speaker 0: Yeah. I do. Yeah. Yeah. It's probably Speaker 1: fire engines. You're being in a basin. What if we look at that? Just go around. Speaker 0: Round and round and round. But if we look, we've got Casey. Casey has, has done a stunning job over the past three and a half weeks. Shout out to the Wellington, TBNZ Bureau. In fact, everyone based in Wellington for all, the organizations who've been covering this event, who've done stunning work. But, Casey, can we see can we see that mess behind us? What happens to Wellington now? Because we were talking to me near Andy Costa before sorry, Andy Foster. Andy Foster, and he was saying, ain't no one coming into town. You're the MP. How do you get people back? Speaker 1: Oh, look, people will come back, and I know they will. And look, I there's a huge number of Wellingtonians who wanna come and do the clean up here. And, just to those people, just to say that the police and the health officials, aren't too sure exactly what's out there, so they're gonna clean it up professionally. But then there's gonna be a moment not too far away where Wellingtonians get to come back in here. And can I can I just say there is a job to do? People need to go and have dinner at the backbencher. They need to go and buy a coffee at Greenland just down the road here. They need to head up to word-of-mouth and get some of their fantastic lunch stuff. They need to go and say thank you to the people at the Thornton New World who've been abused just because they were wearing masks. There's a heap of businesses around here, and the time is coming not too far away where Wellingtonians can show them some love. Speaker 0: Clacey, we can see this mess behind us, can't we? What do you say to those people, minister? As well as an essential MP, as a born and raised New Zealander, as somebody who loves this country, what do you say to those people about where they go, the people who left that mess behind yesterday? The people who were setting fire to things? The people who were throwing bricks at the police? Speaker 1: Well, to those people, I say there is no place for your behavior in New Zealand. And I think many of them will find themselves in front of courts as a result of what they did. And frankly, that is what they deserve. But to those who got swept along with us, who maybe walked away a couple of days beforehand, I said, stop again. Talk to your friends and family. Realize that actually we are all in this together. We're not gonna get everybody back. We're not gonna get everybody who who came here with the intent to cause that trouble, but there are people in our families we can talk to.

Melinda Gates has announced a $20 million grant for Jacinda Ardern, despite the fact that women in New Zealand have felt disempowered under her leadership. The grant aims to support women's and families' rights, as well as reproductive and abortion rights. However, Ardern has prioritized trans/gay rights over women's rights, leading to women feeling unsafe in public places and unisex bathrooms, as well as disempowered in women's sports. This raises questions about the integrity of the decision to give Ardern such a large sum of money without scrutiny.

@BrianTamakiNZ - Brian Tamaki

UNBELIEVABLE! Remember the NZ Herald headline 3 Nov 2020 when “Melinda Gates called on PM Jacinda Arden to ‘speak up’ in support of global Covid-19 vaccine.” Clearly, it was a “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch your back” scenario. Today, Melinda Gates has announced she’s giving Jacinda Ardern a USD $20 million grant to distribute as she wishes. Gates is supposedly looking to support women’s and families rights. She also wants to support reproductive & abortion rights. Gates, needed to do her research though...Kiwi women have never felt so disempowered after five years of a Jacinda-led government. ▪️ Labour actively prioritised trans/gay rights over women’s rights. ▪️ Women have felt unsafe in public places...ie. Let Women Speak event with Posie Parker ▪️ Women have felt unsafe in unisex bathrooms. ▪️ Women have felt disempowered in women’s sports with trans athletes. ▪️ Women have felt forgotten in all matters of public policy. The last PM, and Jacinda’s best buddy, couldn’t even describe what a woman is. Got to give it to Jacinda Ardern though for pulling off one of the greatest PR cons ever.... ...She’s duped Melinda Gates into believing she’s for women’s rights...clearly stating her case on one of her many self-promoting PR tours overseas while she was PM. ...She followed this up with a few rightly placed Op Ed pieces, like the one Sept 2023 in The New York Times titled ‘After Jacinda Ardern, a ‘Scary Time’ for Women in New Zealand Politics’. How the worst prime minister in NZ’s history can be given $20 million, no questions asked, shows how corrupt this world has become.

Speaker 0: No. Thank you. Speaker 1: Okay. Alright. Okay. Is it alright? This is a this is Speaker 0: It's a little awkward, but Speaker 1: Yeah. Look. We just What happened? To to get some context around something. That's all. We're actually here to kind of hear your side of the story. But if you're not willing to do that, then Do you want to find out what it I'm really curious. Speaker 0: Yeah. It looks like you really do wanna know what what it's all about. I mean Speaker 1: Because we don't know. Speaker 0: Please have tuned up to your door at this time of night. We just you know? Yes. You sure you must have some questions. No. Thank you. Is this is this conversation voluntary? Speaker 1: 100%. 100%. It's up to you. Speaker 0: And you just don't wanna tell me what you're here for? Speaker 1: I do, but I need your permission For me to hear. To to hear what it's about. Can I hear? And yeah. Or we can be we can have a private conversation like No. No. Speaker 0: No. You can say whatever you have to say, but I just don't feel like this conversation is very voluntary. You've turned up. My wife will now want to know why. Speaker 1: It's 100%. Okay. I'm just gonna leave you now. Do you want to know? Speaker 0: Not listening out yet. No. Well, could you please explain to me why you've turned up without a warrant to talk to me? Speaker 1: 100%. Yeah. 100%. So, look, we are here to just talk to you about some online comments that someone's reported to the firearms safety authority. Speaker 0: Oh. Speaker 1: And so we just we understand that things can be said online that aren't attractive. Speaker 0: I I have a account that posts inflammatory and joking things. Speaker 1: Yeah. And so it could potentially jeopardize your firearms license. And so all we wanted to do was just have a chat to you about it. That's what it's about. It's nothing too concerning. Speaker 0: That does sound pretty concerning. Are you planning on taking a legal action against me? Speaker 1: No. Comment. And we we Speaker 0: we actually don't even have any we don't even have any control over the No. Speaker 1: No. We're just here to just make sure that there's nothing more to your comments. So there's a whole lot of obligations and regulations around firearms, patents, placements. Sure you're aware of Speaker 0: So someone's made a complaint to police about my anonymous account, which makes jokes. And you guys have tracked that anonymous account to me. It's not really a complaint. It's more alerting us to the fact that this is the sort of thing that you're posting online. And these are sort of things which when you say them online, outside people don't know that you're joking. Yeah. Right. So outside people are likely to sort of independently look like, oh, hey, that that's quite concerning, which is why we're here to come, like, to find out if this is the case or not. You know? Yeah. Speaker 1: And we're just here to have a chat to you about that to get the context around it. Speaker 0: Yeah. I don't feel like this is voluntary. I I would like to have all my chats with police with a lawyer present. I I don't feel comfortable talking to you guys, especially when and also, like, I don't feel comfortable you tracked me down over these comments unless you're illegal. Right? You guys should be acting on the law. Yep. Speaker 1: Yes. Yep. Yep. So part of Speaker 0: But, that's just my personal opinion. I probably shouldn't have said that. My lawyer would say shut the hell up. No. Alright? So I'm gonna shut the hell up now. I Speaker 1: It's Speaker 0: Well, if if my if there's an online account that's making jokes saying, yes. I've got, like, stack loads of cocaine. I don't have scrap. I've got lots of kids there. Okay? So you don't have to act upon anything. This account may say I'm hiding people in my basement. I don't have a basement. Okay? So Speaker 1: No. So what it is Speaker 0: Please you can understand why that concerns you. Speaker 1: All all it is is under the ARMS Act, you have to be a fit and proper person to be able to hold a firearm license. Right? Speaker 0: Yes. Speaker 1: And one of the conditions is that you can't promote extremist or violent type behavior. Right? That's all it is. Speaker 0: I'm not This Speaker 1: is exactly why we're here. Because it's a complex situation that needs to hear your side of the situation. Because if you're posting No. Speaker 0: I really just didn't want this conversation to happen. And, like, if you got any information, you can act on it. And if I'm breaking the law, you can put me in handcuffs and take me away from my family. Speaker 1: It's it's you know. Speaker 0: Okay? So you can do that. Speaker 1: Breaking a lot. Speaker 0: But until you have that, I don't really feel I like if you know my husband, the police when they arrested me when I went to my ex, when I went to you guys first. And she's about to make false allegations, they're not coming back. Yeah. And you guys didn't write that down, and then you arrested me 6 weeks later. Yeah? I do not feel comfortable talking to the police. I don't really wanna interact with you guys. Okay? Speaker 1: Yeah. Speaker 0: I you don't listen to me when I do talk, so I don't wanna either talk to you guys. Alright? Do you, do you want us to talk to your lawyer? Is it can I get you there? Well Can we contact your lawyer? Can we just Yeah. I mean, if it's anything illegal, I'd really appreciate it. Because if you ask my lawyer, say, hey. Can you come to the station? Yes. We'll come together. Yeah. That makes a lot of sense. Talked over 6 or 7 years. Yep. Yep. But he's a good guy. I'm sure he'll remember me. Hopefully, still practicing, actually. Yeah. Yes. Yes. Yeah. So talk Okay. And, he'll be in contact with me. Speaker 1: Yeah. Awesome. No worries. Look. I hope we haven't put undue concern in my Speaker 0: You definitely have. I should I would like my police force that I fund to act upon crimes. Speaker 1: Yes. Yes. Definitely. Speaker 0: And I Speaker 1: just wanna stress, we're not here to investigate a crime. Health New Zealand reported that 25,623 people died within 93 days of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. I previously shared an email from the Coroners Court indicating that deaths could occur up to 93 days post-vaccination. In 2021, New Zealand registered 35,007 deaths, with a 10% increase in 2022. HNZ clarified that the reported figure encompasses all-cause mortality, including accidental deaths, which raises questions about the accuracy of COVID-19 death classifications. What do you think?

@MurfittTauranga - Kirsten Murfitt

Health New Zealand (“HNZ”) states that 25,623 people have died within 93 days of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in New Zealand. As you may recall, I posted an email from the Coroners Court to the Ministry of Health dated 23 August 2021 which stated that research showed that death following the COVID-19 vaccine "might be as long as 93 days". The original post is below. According to Te Whatu Ora’s website, in 2021 there were 35,007 deaths registered in New Zealand. Stats NZ’s website affirms that deaths rose by 10% in 2022. HNZ states that the figure that they released in response to my Official Information Request under the Act is for "all-cause mortality" and includes deaths such as accidents. As you will recall a man that died from a gunshot in Auckland was counted as a COVID-19 death. What are your thoughts? I find this exercise intriguing. It highlights the 'hate hub' that police use to compile information on individuals, including social media posts, regardless of legality. This isn't just about criminal records; it's about accessing all the information the police have on you, much of which people are unaware of. One example I shared was a post categorized under Homo/Transphobia. I included a tweet detailing how to check what the police hold on you, as it's concerning to think about the potential for a totalitarian police state when certain political groups regain power.

@2ETEKA - Holyhekatuiteka

This is an interesting exercise. Remember the ‘hate hub’ that police have built to add peripheral information to your file ? Anything they feel is relevant, even if it’s not illegal? The entries are mainly social media posts they curate. This is not asking for a copy of your criminal record it’s to retrieve ALL information that the Police hold on your file, that most people don’t even know exists. This post pictured below was filed under Homo/Transphobia. The attached tweet explains the process to see exactly what they have on you, you should be concerned because the totalitarian police state will be kicking into action once the left get back in. The Ardernist activists are still within the machine.

At age 11, after her parents separated, the speaker was left with her father and brother, where she experienced abuse. She attempted suicide three times because no one cared. She tried calling the police but feared them due to their involvement with her abuse. She recounts being taken to Freemason lodges and a rural location for satanic ritual abuse, involving blood, animal sacrifices, and the taking of children's lives. She overheard her father offering her as a sacrifice to the Grandmaster. At these events, children were drugged and laid out in a circle while Freemasons chanted. At home, she was treated like a dog, forced to wear a collar and leash, eat off the floor, and tied up outside. Her brother and his friends became involved in the abuse, and she was also a slave in the home. She tried to escape but was brought back. Weekends with her mother offered no escape, as her mother always returned her. At 12, she discovered her father with another woman, leading her mother to finally remove her from the house after consulting with the Archbishop of Auckland.

Speaker 0: And he had said, if I ever told anyone, he would kill a family member or the dog. So I believed him because he was a scary man. Now, what happened was, at the age of 11, my parents separated, and I got left with my father. This may surprise you, but that's when my nightmare began. Because I was left with my father and brother in that house, and they could do whatever they wanted to me. There were no other females around. I tried to take my own life between 11 and 12, three times, but I didn't succeed. And the reason that I tried is because no one cared. No one really wanted to know my story. I used to run up to the phone box at night, sometimes we didn't have, I couldn't use the telephone at home to ring the police, but I'd dial the number to ring the police, and then I'd hang up because I knew the police had been involved, and some were involved with my abuse. I knew that because the Freemasons were once a month. They would be taken to one of the lodges once a month. Other children were there, and satanic ritual abuse would take place. But equally there were certain days throughout the year, or certain weekends, when I would be taken to a place out in the country. Now, in my mind, was out Waimaukoo Way, but I can't be sure of that. And so what would happen there, it was a weekend of celebration for these Freemasons. And this is why I know there were fairly high up people involved, because there were police cars, and there were police guarding the entrance. And back in those days, the police cars were black and white. So I saw the police, I knew the police were there. Now whether they were inside and engaging as well, I don't know. But they knew enough to be protecting the people that were there. It was satanic ritual abuse, so children would be there. So this type of abuse involves offerings. So it's blood, it's animals being killed and sacrificed. Children's lives were taken as well. And in fact, at one point during one of these sessions, heard my father talking to the grandmaster, who was one of the highest up in the Freemasons, and asking him, saying to him, Oh look, I'll sacrifice her if you're needing a child of that age. But I was getting a wee bit older, so I wasn't quite as appealing anymore. And I don't know, luckily for me, the Grandmaster chose not to have me sacrificed. But there was human sacrifice. Please know that not every Freemason is abusing children, or trafficking children. This is a select few who have reached certain levels, so there is chanting, there is ceremonial procedure with all of it. And I knew it was satanic ritual abuse, because during the monthly meetings, these men were wearing hoods. These were at the, this was at the lodge I was taken to. And so the children at these events, I wasn't the only child, there would be a nurse and a doctor there, who would check us children out and then drug us. So we would be, there would be a needle in our arms. And then we would be laid out in like a circle. So around, you'll see with the Freemasons, there's lots of symbols they use. And one is a compass, but there's a circle embedded in that as well. So the children would be, we would be laid out around that. So it was marked out on the platform we were on, and the Freemasons would come and there would be chanting, and there would be a process that would be undergone. But it was very, very evil, and very, very scary. And I know I'm taking a risk saying any of this, but it's time for the truth to be told. And I gained nothing from it, apart from helping other beautiful survivors out there know that I believe you. You couldn't make this up. I believe I was born into this family and then highlighted, or spotlighted as being a child who could be trafficked. And the grooming and the kind of mind control that took place just was beyond imagination. But please remember, and this is throughout the world, this is not just New Zealand, but please know that when neglect and abandonment exist, abuse will always find a home, and it certainly took pride of place in our home. So once my mother and the others had left, I was with my father and brother. It was, as I said earlier, those were the eighteen months I was left there. I nearly died, I thought I was going to die, apart from trying to take my own life. My father, you see, had no measure on him. He, there was no one to stop him. And so I would, and one example would be, I would be stripped naked, and treated like a dog. So they would tie a collar and leash around my neck, lead me around the floor on all fours, make me beg, pant, howl. My only way of communicating with them was like a dog would. And the reason for that was they wanted to laugh at me, and ridicule me. I had to eat food off the floor only using my mouth. I could only lick water out of a bowl. I would be tied up on the back deck, and left. And the reason they did that is because they could. My brother then became more involved, and got his friends involved. So this, there were no hold bard on any of this. And I was also a slave in the home. So I had to do everything. I had to cook, I had to clean, I had to do washing. I was 11, I didn't know how to do much of any of it. But I was living with a deranged psychopath and his mini me. So the photos, the videoing, the abuse went on and on and on. I tried to escape. I put myself in an abuser's boot one night, but unfortunately he brought me back the next day. I was desperate, you see, to get away. And then, every second weekend, I would go to my mother's, and she was a good strong Catholic. And so being a good strong Catholic, I had to put on that, or take that persona. So for the two out of fourteen days I was there, I would cling to her, I would cry, I would beg, I would hide. Don't take me back, don't make me go, don't take me back, don't make me go. But she always would. Now as a mom myself, can I tell you, you don't ignore that? You can't ignore that. So she was very complicit, very complicit. The child that left her house on a Sunday night was never the same child that arrived the Friday later. Very lucky to be alive, I will not overstate that. At eleven and 11, between eleven and twelve and a half, I was with my father, left there. A miracle occurred. So I had my angels around me, and a miracle occurred because at 12, I came home from school early one day and keep in mind my only safe place was school. And at school I could be me. And so I was out of control. In every way possible, I was showing how traumatized I was, how distressed I was, how broken I was, how frightened I was. And so I was always in trouble, I was always being strapped, I was out of the classroom more than in, but it was a cry for help, you see. Instead of saying, There goes that naughty girl again, perhaps if teachers had asked, what's happening in her life? An outcome may have been different. But at 12, I walked home, and I heard laughing. And in my father's room was he with a woman. And I just went into shock, because you've gotta remember, I was trained to be his mistress. So I was his mistress, his slave, his everything, and conditioned to be that. So I went into shock, I turned and ran. Ran out of the house, up to my mother's house, which is about five kilometers away, and I couldn't speak, was terrorized. And for the first time, she looked at me and asked what was wrong. And I said, He's got this woman in his bed, he's got this woman in his bed. So she rang the Archbishop of Auckland, who she was friends with, and his words were, Get her out of the house, it's not safe for her to be there living with an adulterer. Let that sink in. It's okay for me to be abused, sold, leased, trafficked, filmed, terrorized, traumatized, drugged, nearly killed, but he's an adulterer. So anyway, I think that saved my life because she had no choice but to remove

I find the focus on the former First Minister excessive, especially given her revisionist narrative. Sturgeon’s claims about the toxicity of the debate seem disconnected from reality, as her actions have often stifled genuine discussion. Despite numerous attempts to engage with her, she consistently refused to meet with campaigners. The hostile environment surrounding our protests and the smear campaigns against us highlight the troubling dynamics at play. Sturgeon’s self-proclaimed commitment to women's rights feels hollow, especially when it appears to serve her own interests.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

🧵FRANKLY, yesterday’s woman, the former FM who left office in a miasma of her own (and her hubby’s) making is getting far too much attention. But there is some revisionism that is just too egregious to ignore. Especially as she has a platform denied to us.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

If Sturgeon really thinks Oct 22 was the point the debate became “toxic” & hope of “common ground” disappeared, we wonder if she was drunk or in a coma for half a decade? Otherwise how to account for such wilful blindness? https://www.thetimes.com/article/29160158-03f7-4afc-bce6-38a425c72df0?shareToken=932d69823acf116a2494df2f5fec2778

Clearly, the shirt hit a nerve, “it seems blindingly obvious that a stunt like that was never going to elevate the debate or illuminate the issues at the heart of it.” But Sturgeon wasn’t interested in debate. Her zealotry made Thatcher’s commitment to the Poll Tax look measured.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

She has disappeared into a hubristic fantasy of her own inviolability and righteousness which is as ridiculous as it is insulting. Worry not, we have the receipts!

Late 22 saw last ditch attempts by campaigners, after years of vilification, to have concerns taken seriously before the Bill came to Parl. Our huge event was supported by many former & current MSPs with a typically passionate speech by @JohannLamont https://forwomen.scot/08/10/2022/womens-rally-october-2022/

It didn’t come out of nowhere. In Sep 19, Sturgeon said at the UN that women’s concerns were “misplaced”. We wrote, asking her for a meeting. Naturally, she wouldn't give us the time of day.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

When she refused, we asked Shirley Ann Somerville - several times - she also refused. We also asked if they would consider attempting to ensure a respectful discussion and avoid the issues that marred previous meetings. https://forwomen.scot/17/09/2019/consultation-with-stakeholders/

Consultation with Stakeholders - For Women Scotland When Nicola Surgeon stated that feminist’s concerns were “misplaced” at a United Nations conference last February we thought it would be an ideal time to try and arrange a meeting to address our concerns and put forward evidence that self ID policies represent a substantial roll back of women’s rights. @CallieMac009 wrote an account of Sturgeon's stewardship of the SNP in WWWW. She recalls a letter written in 2020 which she “naively” thought the leader would not ignore. Later, she realised that “naked intimidation” was not just tolerated but encouraged.

@LucyHunterB - Lucy Hunter Blackburn

@JoanMcAlpine Here's @CallieMac009, grassroots member, then elected as women's convenor, talking about putting this letter together.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

The previous meeting we referred to in our letter was in Jan 2019. We wrote about it here: Protesters outside the venue included “Cathy” who said that we should be “made afraid & silenced by force”. For us, it seemed quite toxic then!

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

In January 2019 the FWS meeting was again subject to a campaign of abuse. All through the day, the venue was bombarded by increasingly frightening threats - as a consequence, we had to quadruple security on the night.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Yet, this was small beer compared to the event at Edinburgh University later that year. Speakers said they had never encountered such security which was more akin to that in place for visiting heads of state. Claire Heuchan recalls (in WWWW) the anxiety made her physically sick.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Of course, the lovely “Cathy” popped up & assaulted @bindelj. Another large man who had threatened to “throat punch” FWS was outside protesting. Sturgeon is upset she was called “destroyer of women’s rights” in 2022. We were worried about being killed.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Cathy, of course, later attempted to assault Julie Bindel as she left the meeting at Edinburgh University in June 2019. Three security guards were needed to drag Cathy off. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/julie-bindel-the-man-in-a-skirt-called-me-a-nazi-then-attacked-8dfwk8jft

Some of her closest allies then began to spread malicious smears about the demo. Mhairi Hunter, her former campaign manager, took to Twitter to claim that a fascist group had announced their intention to attend our protest in support. Of course, it was wholly without foundation.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Even after she was shown evidence to disprove it, she refused to retract. And other, large follower accounts joined in. What does Sturgeon think this did to our fears for our safety or to our mental health?

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

More disgusting lies from the #bekind mob. They can't beat us, so they make up stories to discredit us.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Karen Adam, later to sit on the committee examining GRR, jumped on the bandwagon to make the protest all about her and paint the women as feral monsters.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

The unedifying sight of @theSNP MSP lying to attack women. For one, FMQs finishes at 12.45 and our protest was over at 12. Demos are permitted in a democracy No one mentioned Ms Adams, the protest was not about her and it would not have been possible to see her at a window

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Some of the nastiest accounts on the internet gleefully seized on the opportunity to be abusive.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

While @MhairiHunter @FionaSNP & @KarenAdamMSP demonise women, this is what their allies are saying. Is any of this acceptable to them?

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Let's not forget that Sturgeon happily jumped into bed with Patrick Harvie despite the toxic & intemperate language he used about fellow MSPs - not least, @JoanMcAlpine & @JohannLamont So much for supporting women over abusive men!

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

So, @PatrickHarvie is apparently now worried about abuse and "toxic" debate. But mainly when he's on the receiving end. Let's have a non-exhaustive look at all the times Harvie has tried to elevate the conversation: #HarvieHatesWomen

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Harvie’s language during the Hate Crime debate was especially nasty. We complained several times about the Greens. Sturgeon, of course, was begging her own SNP bullies not to leave the party in her famous broom-cupboard address.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

A thread (likely to run & run) of times members of SGP have made inflammatory comments about women. We complained about these three individuals last year. One was talking about "punching the fuck" out of women another was posting vile pornography. Naturally, we got no response.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Two weeks ago, we submitted a complaint to @scottishgreens about a candidate & 2 officers. The election is tomorrow and today we were told that the complaint had been passed to the "relevant groups". This is not good enough.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

We don't discount the possibility that Sturgeon got threats - it would, sadly, be unusual if she didn’t. But we would have more sympathy had she ever attempted to deal with the situation in the SNP and the appalling targeting of @joannaccherry https://news.sky.com/story/snp-accused-of-shocking-failure-in-handling-of-online-harassment-and-abuse-claims-12245908

It was happening under her nose. So either she was lumpenly unintelligent and unaware (so much for the famed emotional intelligence!), she didn’t care, or she saw and approved.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

She makes large claims about her commitment to women’s rights. But Sturgeon has never done much for women - especially those she worked with. Her "feminism" is largely centered on herself. https://t.co/CFjFOvvIM0

Sturgeon repeats her risible claim that we are “standing alongside” Trump, Putin & Orbán. This is the juvenile argument we call "vegetarians are all Hitler”. I imagine she stands with them on gravity. Unless she thinks we are bobbing along hitting our heads off the rainbow.

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Naturally, she can’t resist more underhanded attempts to attack women’s rights activists: “The tactics deployed by some, however sincere their views might have been, suggested there was another agenda at work.” What tactics? What agenda? Spell it out!

@ForWomenScot - For Women Scotland

Sturgeon is touring the radio stations, she has a book, publicity, and a huge advance. She is not the David in this fight. If anyone would like the full FWS version, we are more than open to bashing out a book for a lot less. It will also be far more entertaining!

I profile Adrienne Smith, a Vancouver lawyer who identifies as non-binary, merging law with activism. I note her training for organizations on drag rights, anti-oppression, and transgender rights, often funded by government or NGOs. I describe her confrontational, sometimes personal, rhetoric at public events, her legal activism—from petitions to tribunals—and her influence in SOGI policy and name-change lobbying, wrapped in a painful personal narrative.

@Nick_Decap - Nick Osmond-Jones 🇨🇦

🧵Alot of people are having a good laugh right now at the antics at the convention of Canada's New Democratic Party (the NDP). I particular, this woman, who has chaired the convention. Her name is Adrienne Smith, and while the clips may be funny, there is nothing funny about her agenda or the influence she wields. 1/9

@Nick_Decap - Nick Osmond-Jones 🇨🇦

Smith is lawyer from Vancouver BC. She is a woman who identifies as non-binary. Her website makes clear that the practice of law is twinned with activism. Her slogan is "Keeping the Social Just" and her firm is billed as a "progressive Downtown Eastside boutique law firm for underdogs and the organizations that fight for them". 2/9 https://adriennesmithlaw.com/

@Nick_Decap - Nick Osmond-Jones 🇨🇦

One of the services she offers is training for organizations. Workshop titles include Know Your Rights for Drag Performers and Library Workers, Social Justice Intervention Training (Dismantling white supremacy), and what we all saw on display at the NDP conventions, Anti-Oppressive Meeting Procedure. And of course, her bread and butter: Transgender Rights. 3/9 https://adriennesmithlaw.com/available-workshops/

@Nick_Decap - Nick Osmond-Jones 🇨🇦

Most of her workshops are done for taxpayer-funded organizations, either government or NGO's. I encountered Adrienne Smith when I was an employee and the BC Ombudsperson's Office. Her presentation on trans rights was a mix of personal grievances (she once had turn down a job because there was only male and female bathrooms, neither of which she could use), radical claims about history and biology (gender roles where imposed on indigenous people by colonization, biological sex is a spectrum rather than a binary). More important to my work as someone who investigated complaints regarding government services, Smith claimed that Canadian law required government to treat people based on self-declared gender identity rather than biological sex. In the Q&A at the end of the session I raised my concern that these were contested issues but any disagreement was stifled by fear of being accused of bigotry. Smith shut me down with a rant that began by stating that "this is not a question about a disagreement of terms or something that can be politely debated. This is a dispute between people who are seeking justice and people who would prefer that we were dead" and went went on from there. Audio of our full exchange is embedded in the linked article. Scenes like this send a clear message to public servants: tow the line or else. And Smith is doing this all the time. 4/9 https://quillette.com/2023/04/13/a-public-servant-stood-up-for-sex-based-rights-at-a-gender-workshop-and-paid-the-price/

@Nick_Decap - Nick Osmond-Jones 🇨🇦

On the legal front, dig into any of the crazy gender-related cases in BC and there is a good chance Smith was involved. Most people have heard of the recent BC Human Right's Tribunal decision to penalize former school trustee Barry Neufeld. What you likely don't know is that in 2021 Smith petitioned the BC Supreme Court to have Neufeld removed from his elected position, and to prevent him from running again. In a rare win for sanity, she was unsuccessful. 5/9 https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2022/01/30/bc-supreme-court-petition-chilliwack-trustee/

@Nick_Decap - Nick Osmond-Jones 🇨🇦

At the BC Human Right Tribunal, Smith broke new ground in 2021 by securing a $30,000 reward for a restaurant employee who was fired for aggressively insisting on being addressed as they/them. 6/9 https://vancouversun.com/news/fired-worker-awarded-30k-after-restaurant-co-worker-used-wrong-pronouns

@Nick_Decap - Nick Osmond-Jones 🇨🇦

On the advocacy front, Smith's name pops up everywhere. In Hansard, she was named as a supporter of the 2016 inclusion of gender identity in the BC Human Right Code (a change which enabled the non-binary restaurant ruling). She was instrumental in cutting municipal funding to Vancouver Rape Relief, a women's shelter that refuses to admit men. She is the chair of the BC NDP's Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee (SOGI). According to the BC lobbyist registry, she has conducted extensive lobbying regarding name changes, in particular to oppose legislation which puts limits on the ability of criminals to change their names. 7/9

@Nick_Decap - Nick Osmond-Jones 🇨🇦

Smith is also a poet. In this performance she gives us some clues to what underlies her advocacy: pain. She expresses frustration with at her inability to sustain long term relationships, which she blames on bigotry. She states that she binds her chest "because it hurts too much not to" and frames this as a gift to the world to shield us from her pain. It's moving. She is eloquent, and her pain and frustration is sad, but it's no basis for public policy. 8/9 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSVZ5TPykP0

@Nick_Decap - Nick Osmond-Jones 🇨🇦

The upshot: in a public setting like the NDP convention, Smith's ideology looks ridiculous. This is why trans activists focus on gaining control of the levers of power behind the scenes: establishing ideological control in institutions through workshops/struggle sessions. Embedding their ideology into law and policy, not by convincing the public they are right, but by lobbying behind closed doors. Once laws and policies are changed, enforcing public compliance through courts and tribunals. Smith may cut a ridiculous figure, but don't underestimate her. 9/9

@Nick_Decap - Nick Osmond-Jones 🇨🇦

For anyone interested in her tactics, they are laid out remarkably honestly here https://t.co/jfN8Q0rSNx
