An investigation by AJ Plus reveals that Israel has been abducting and torturing Palestinian medical workers. Over 110 healthcare workers have been detained since October 7th. Testimonies from some medics who were released describe being tortured and mistreated. Families of the missing medics claim they were detained without reason. The World Health Organization witnessed a medic being forced to kneel at gunpoint, and 70 healthcare workers from Kamal Adwan Hospital were taken to an unknown location. The Israeli Channel N12 shared an image believed to show detained healthcare workers. This systematic targeting of healthcare workers is seen as a strategy of war. Detaining and torturing healthcare workers is illegal under international law. The Israeli army has not responded to requests for comment.

Speaker 0: An AJ Plus investigation has found evidence of Israel abducting and torturing Palestinian medical workers. Information obtained by AJ Plus shows that at least 110 health care workers have been detained since October 7th. Speaker 1: My cousin, doctor Salih Helua, is an emergency junior your doctor, and he was abducted on November 18th, and we have not heard from him since. And we believe that he is being tortured, and we do not know if She you've been it's still alive. Speaker 0: AJ Plus has also heard multiple testimonies from some Palestinian medics who were deducted, tortured, and then released. In one case, a Palestinian nurse in Gaza said he was tortured, handcuffed, and blindfolded for 5 days before he was finally Speaker 2: Shreed. Speaker 0: Relatives of some of the missing medics say they were detained without any reason. Another nurse from the occupied West Bank was abducted from her home by Israeli forces. She also said that she was tortured by Israeli soldiers during interrogations. The World Health Organization says they witnessed a Palestine Red Crescent Society Shmediq being forced to kneel at gunpoint at a checkpoint in Gaza. Separately, a UN office says some 70 healthcare workers from Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza were taken to an unknown location after being detained on December 12th. It is still not known where they are. But this image of Palestinian men who were also reportedly detained on December 12th was shared by Israeli Channel N12. And it is believed to show some health care workers, like doctor Khaled Hamouda, who was a general surgeon in Kamal Adwan Hospital, right here. He was identified by Friends and Healthcare Workers Watch. AJ Plus also with Gaza Medic Voices and Healthcare Workers Watch, who have been documenting the disappearances of Palestinian medical workers. They believe that Israel's attack on medics is a strategy of war. Speaker 3: It is absolutely horrifying and shameful that the Israeli occupation forces would decide to detain after bombing them. And this is unfortunately the status quo. We have the systematic targeting of health care facilities, the bombing of the bombing of children's cancer wards, and the next testing for them when they can't bomb is they legally detain. Speaker 0: Health care workers, including doctor were passing through what Israel misleadingly calls a safe corridor before they were detained on November 18th. And doctor was rounded up with other doctors after being forced to leave Al Shifa hospital by Israeli forces. On the same day, the director of Al Shifa hospital, Mohammed Abu Salmiya, was also taken by Israeli forces. Like doctor Aleywa, his whereabouts are still unknown. Speaker 2: We know that that Medical students who had been picked up in the door by the Israelis who are working as all the tears in one of the hospitals have been tortured and have been photographed, in an attempt to basically show them as combatants. It's all part of the same narrative, narrative that Tries to justify the destruction of the hospital. Speaker 0: Detaining and torturing health care workers is illegal under international law. AJ plus has reached out to the Israeli army for comment, but they had not responded by the time of publication.

So for those who don't know, people are either inside the build one building of Shefa complex buildings without water, without food, without the ability to move anywhere, or to get outside that building and, to be executed. And talking about execution, today, Muhammad al Nunu, he is a doctor, the Israeli army executed Muhammad al Nunu because he refused to leave the unit that he is working in and refused to leave his patients and preferred to stay, to complete their treatment because a lot of the ICU, of the intensive care unit, patients died, passed away because there is no electricity, there is no food, there is no staff. There is bombing and burning for the hospital utilities. So he refused to leave them, and he was executed. He was killed on front of the people, in front of the patients. This is what is happening now in Isheva Hospital. It is a hospital, and this is happening to them. Thousands of people, women, children, and innocent men and civilians are, stuck in in a building, in a Shefa hospital without food, without water. They started to to drink the the hospital stored selling solutions. It's the only liquids that they have, and no one is talking about that. No one. No media, no enough media, no governments, no one is talking about this. And this is not the only horrific thing that happened today in the north of Gaza Strip. By the way, today, between 10 to 20 people were killed by the Israeli shooting on Kuwaiti roundabout while they were waiting for their humanitarian aid. They were waiting for food because they're starving to death in the north of Gaza Strip in Ramadan month. They were waiting for food, and they were killed by the Israeli army. How many times we need to scream more about that? The North of Gaza Strip is under attack like it was the the the first days of the genocide. Exactly. They are brutally killed and bombed. It is a hospital with thousands of innocent people, medical staff, injuries, civilians, and they are starved to death. They're without water, without treatment. They're pleading in front of each others until the death, and everyone is out of the building, has got executed by the snipers, or inside the building starving to death. This is what is happening now inside the Sheikah hostel now at this moment for 6 days.

🚨🧵1/ KIDNAPPED, IMPRISONED, TORTURED, RAPED & MURDERED: The Story of Renowned Palestinian Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh SUMMARY: Dr. Al-Bursh was trained at Kings College in Britain. He was extorted with the death of women & children at his hospital & kidnapped by the IDF last December. He was imprisoned & tortured for 5 months until he succumbed to his internal injuries. The Israeli Prison System (IPS) denies any of this happened. He leaves behind his wife & 6 kids, living in an abandoned school in Central Gaza. TESTIMONIALS: "[The director] told us that the [Israeli army] have full data of all males aged between 14 and 65 at Awda hospital," Dr Obeid* said, tearfully. "They told him (Dr. Al Bursh) that if all men do not come down… they will destroy the Awda Hospital with all the women and children in it." "In mid-April 2024, Dr Adnan Al-Bursh arrived at Section 23 in Ofer Prison. The prison guards brought Dr Adnan Al-Bursh into the section in a deplorable state. He had clearly been assaulted with injuries around his body. He was naked in the lower part of his body. "The prison guards threw him in the middle of the yard and left him there. Dr Adnan Al-Bursh was unable to stand up. One of the prisoners helped him and accompanied him to one of the rooms. A few minutes later, prisoners were heard screaming from the room they went into, declaring Dr Adnan Al-Bursh (was dead)." UPDATE: *Dr. Obeid, who was interviewed in this video report, has now also been kidnapped by the IDF and Doctors Without Borders are extremely worried. He's probably already been tortured & raped himself.

Doctor Adnan Albusch, a respected surgeon in Gaza, was known for his compassion and surgical expertise. Following Hamas's assault, he treated numerous war injuries at Al Shefa Hospital, which became overwhelmed. Albusch documented the crisis on his phone but was detained by Israeli forces in December 2023, never to be seen again. Reports indicate he faced severe mistreatment while in custody. After being transferred to Ofer prison, he died shortly after arrival in April 2024, with no explanation provided by Israeli authorities. His death sparked outrage, as many view it as part of a broader pattern of abuse against medical professionals in Gaza. Albusch left behind a wife and six children, who now live in a school in Central Gaza. His legacy remains a poignant reminder of the human cost of the ongoing conflict.

Speaker 0: Just about everybody in Gaza knew doctor Adnan Albusch. The longtime surgeon was known and venerated for his empathy and warmth, while his surgical skills were honed by war. Speaker 1: This is the recovery room, full of darkness, no water, no electricity. But we have a hero, surgeons in Gaza. Speaker 2: He was a lovely fellow. He was always smiling. He was very friendly. He was very outgoing, but he was aware of his responsibilities. Speaker 0: After Hamas launched its brutal assault 13 months ago, Israel unleashed its firepower. To devastating effect. And as an orthopedic specialist, Albusch was in demand, dealing with broken limbs and broken bodies in Northern Gaza while recording the surroundings on his mobile phone. However, the Israelis said medical facilities were used by Hamas, and Albersh was detained by their forces last December. Friends and loved ones never saw him again. Hundreds of medical workers have died or disappeared in Gaza, but Sky News has tracked down people who knew doctor Albusch, people who work with him, who witnessed his treatment. An eminent surgeon who was subjected to repeated physical attacks. That is the claim. Speaker 3: He was so so badly treated, so he was unable even to to go to the toilet, alone. So I I thought he was beaten very badly. Speaker 0: This was Al Shefa Hospital, the biggest medical facility in Gaza. Israel said Hamas used it as a command center, but the hospital was quickly overwhelmed in the weeks that followed the outbreak of war. Doctor Albersch found himself in the eye of the storm, saving lives in the operating room, sleeping in the staff room. And compiling a record of the crisis on his phone. This is the surgeon's friend, doctor Obeid. Speaker 1: This is the part of the breath. We don't have a breath in one week. And, today's time, we will have a long Conditions Speaker 0: were deteriorating at the 700 bed facility, but the staff seemed overjoyed when they received ingredients for bread. Israel cut the electricity, and food, fuel, and basic medical provisions, like pain relief, were severely curtailed. Speaker 1: Surgery with with chargeable light. Chargeable light. Okay. With unfortunately, sedation. We have no anesthesia. Sedation with manual ventilation. Not care. Speaker 0: The strain, never far from the surface. By mid November, Al Shifa had become part of the battlefield, Israeli troops encircling the facility after days of clashes outside. Al Bursh documents the mood inside. Here, a colleague recalls a painful conversation with his wife. The wards were packed with patients. The corridors used by displaced residents seeking shelter from the war. Dead bodies were dumped outside and left on the hospital forecourt. The World Health Organization called it the death zone. Here, we see staff members in scrubs digging mass graves. The head of orthopedics lending a hand. These images captured on his phone. A few days later, the hospital was evacuated. Patients and staff walking south in long columns past dead bodies left in the streets. Videos on the surgeon's phone capture words of shock and surprise. But Albersh didn't follow the road to southern Gaza. He retraced his steps heading northeast. Another hospital called the Indonesian needed his help. He was greeted by mayhem and scenes of desperation inside. The following was recorded just after he arrived. He was one of the best trained surgeons in Gaza, completing an advanced course at London's King's College Hospital. The training was led by this man, doctor Graham Groom, who says Albusch relished his time in Britain. Speaker 2: He was exposed to the techniques we use and, most importantly, to the team approach to the management of badly injured patients. He saw a much more coherent and cohesive team approach. And then he and and others very much adopted that approach. Speaker 0: The fellowship didn't prepare him for this. On 20th November, Israeli tanks surrounded the Indonesian hospital. Later, projectiles were fired into the second floor. More than a dozen were killed, but Albrusch survived, and we see him surveying the damage with his phone. The Israeli military said it responded to enemy forces, but no shells were fired. A few days later, he ventured outside. Israel and Hamas had agreed to a temporary truce, although the ceasefire would only last for 4 days. As the truce fell apart, Al Bursch moved on to a small hard pressed facility called Al Alder, the only functional hospital left in Northern Gaza. And these are the last images we have of doctor Adnan Al Buysh. They were posted on the hospital's website one day before his arrest. The facility had been surrounded by the IDF, and the staff were under strain. Speaker 4: We are in a horrible situation. We have siege around us, the Israeli army is around us, and our team is exhausted. Speaker 0: These the words of doctor Mohammed O'Baid, colleague of doctor Al Busch. The 2 men were frightened. They knew as doctors, they'd be accused of supporting or working for Hamas. Eventually, the hospital director told them they had to leave. They threatened to destroy the hospital with the women and children inside, he said eventually. We put this allegation to the Israel Defense Forces, but it didn't respond. These drone images were taken near Al Alder Hospital in December, and they match the location and description of events provided by doctor O'Baid. After their interrogation, O'Baid says 5 medical workers, including Al Bursch, were taken away. Doctor Albusch was sent to an army base in Israel called Stade Teman, a now notorious center used for processing detainees from Gaza. They're bound and blindfolded for long periods, and allegations of physical, mental, and sexual abuse are rife. It's thought many of the inmates are medical professionals. Speaker 3: In the camp where I was, there were about 100 prisoners. I think, at least quarter of them were were involved in in scare there. A quarter? Yes. At least. Okay. Some of them are doctors and nurses and educations. Speaker 0: We found doctor Khalid Hamouda in Cairo, a refuge, he said, after spending 3 weeks at Stade Teman. He told us the guards used him as their helper and remembers being told to fetch doctor Albusch at the gate. Speaker 3: And at this moment, he he told me that he they they beat him, badly. He feel pain in the in different part of his body, his chest, his bone, and his back, and his legs. He he told me that they they keep beating him until he I was where I met him. Speaker 0: At the detention center? Speaker 3: Yes. In detention center. He he he told me that he thought he may have broken ribs. Speaker 0: How did he look the next morning? Speaker 1: Oh, How does he appear? Speaker 3: He was so so badly treated. So he was unable even to to go to the toilet, alone. So I I thought he was beaten very badly. Speaker 0: Albus left state Oman on the 20th December and entered the Israeli prison system. In April, he was taken to a facility near Jerusalem called Ofer, where he died shortly after his arrival. News of the surgeon's death was announced quietly in May. The Israelis offering no explanation, no cause of death, nor have they returned the body to members of the family. Here's what we do know. The regime at Ofer is harsh, a point emphasized by the prison service when this Israeli television crew were taken for a tour. They're all murderers, all terrorists, said the deputy commander, although many of these prisoners haven't been charged. Sky News can reveal new information about Albersch's death. Human rights lawyer Nadia Daka has obtained a deposition from a prisoner who says he witnessed the moments leading up to the doctor's death. Speaker 5: He had clearly been assaulted, with injuries around his body. He was naked in the lower part of his body. The prison guard threw him in the middle of the yard and left him there. Speaker 0: The deposition says Al Borscht was taken by an inmate to one of the cells. Adnan El Borsch was not the first case of a person who was who was beaten and died in the prison since this war. Before him were many and many cases. Speaker 0: The Israel Defense Forces told Sky News that the death of doctor Al Busch was not its responsibility. The Israel prison service has also denied responsibility for the death of the doctor. In a statement, it said, all basic rights required are fully applied by professionally trained prison guards. We are not aware of the claims you described. And as far as we know, no such events have occurred under IPS responsibility. Some people might say some people will say that doctor Adnan Albersch was a terrorist. Speaker 5: Like, if I want to to answer formally to this question, he was not charged till now. And many of these detainees are not charged from Gaza. Speaker 0: Doctor Albersh leaves his wife, Yasmin, along with 6 children. They've been displaced by the war and currently live in the remnants of a school in Central Gaza. The doctor's pictures now adorn the wall, and they've got his old phone messages, but that won't bring him back. Doctor Mohammed O'Baid was detained by the Israeli military 3 weeks ago along with several other medical staff. Doctors Without Borders says it is extremely alarmed and is trying to determine his status and location. This story is one of a countless number that have been buried under the immovable weight of Gaza's recent past. Yet al Burj was a much loved figure in Gaza. His death and the manner in which he died deemed by many as unforgivable. John Sparks, Sky News in Jerusalem.

I’m devastated to report that Dr. Saeed Joudeh and several patients were injured when Israeli drones attacked Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza while he was treating the wounded. This marks the second attack on a hospital in less than 24 hours.

I refuse to accept the treatment of a doctor who stayed with his patients and is now facing imprisonment in Sde Teiman, the same place where another doctor was killed. I will never forgive our leaders for the shame they’ve brought upon our country by aligning us with such brutality.

He refused to leave his patients… and for that great act of courage he is being sent to hell on Earth, the Sde Teiman prison. That’s the same prison where lsraeli reservists graped another doctor to death in July. That “investigation” is still ongoing. I will never forgive our leaders for the shame and dishonor they have brought upon our country by aligning us with that barbaric state.

⚡️BREAKING: Footage shows director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh, walking unarmed facing the Israeli tanks before his arrest. According to an eyewitness, Israeli soldiers flogged Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh with a street electrical cable (worse than a whip) According to a freed detainee, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh has been transferred to the notorious Sde Teiman prison, where Palestinians have been Sodomized & tortured. Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh was executed in this same facility. We must not allow Dr. Hussam to face same fate.
