Senior officials at the FAA's Flight Program Operations division are seen in internal footage discussing plans to increase diversity in aviation. They suggest promoting baggage handlers to become pilots and addressing the dominance of white males in the industry. The footage raises concerns about the impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives on aviation safety. Additionally, claims are made about Delta promoting a trans-identifying pilot despite poor performance reviews. The industry's focus on DEI is criticized for diverting attention from core responsibilities. Documentation reveals the FAA's program prioritizing certain businesses for grant funding. The posts argue that a new mandate solely focused on safety is needed to prevent a potential air disaster.

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

BREAKING: I've obtained internal footage of senior officials at the FAA's Flight Program Operations division — which is responsible for all aspects of aircraft operations — workshopping a plan to reduce the number of white males in aviation. 🧵

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

2/ The footage begins with FAA acting deputy chief operating officer Angela McCullough saying more workers need to go from "ramp to cockpit," meaning she wants to see more baggage handlers become airline pilots. https://t.co/2KAeHNcJA2

Video Transcript AI Summary
We are discussing the need to recruit and retain a diverse population within the agency. This is a challenge because everyone else is also trying to do the same thing, making competition intense. To address this, we need to be creative and explore partnerships with universities and trade schools that specialize in aviation. We should consider opportunities for training from ramp to cockpit.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: And and we're looking at that, but we're also looking at really Speaker 1: a need across the agency to recruit and retain a diverse, population of those. And as you mentioned earlier, you know, how much that adds to to the the process. What what do you think are some of the points that we need to remember, as we as we embark on this challenge going forward? Speaker 2: Oh, that oh, that's that's a pretty good, A pretty good question. I think one of one of the things we need to out is that everyone else is embarking on the same thing. Right? Just across the system. So Competition is going to be, the competition is going to be it's just going to be really heavy. Right? So, a, I think we, we need to know that. I think it's gonna Take some, some creativity. You heard, Tim saying he and I had talked about, and we're gonna you all is, you know, are there opportunities for any partnerships with, universities and trade schools that specialize. We kinda talk out from, you know, ramp to cockpit? Is there some things that we would want to look at, there?

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

3/ As the meeting goes on, McCullough declares that it's important to "get a little uncomfortable." She complains that Flight Operations is "white-male dominated" and tells the managers they need to “talk about what the future could look like." https://t.co/cZCSAluWyN

Video Transcript AI Summary
We need to have a conversation about what's preventing us from approaching things differently. Flight operations are heavily dominated by white males, and we need to acknowledge that. Let's imagine a future where the program is representative of the whole world. These discussions may be uncomfortable, but change won't happen unless we embrace discomfort and support each other.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: But, yeah. We need to be willing to to have a conversation about kinda what's standing in our way from approaching some of these things, differently than we have historically approached them. And just even the internal bias, I mean, particularly in flight ops. If this the your whole program is very heavily male dominated. It just is. And really, it is white male dominated. If you I mean, let's just say what it is. And so let's be real. That is today what it is. And then let's talk about what could the future look like if if if you really had this program that was representative of the whole, country, right, of the whole world. And, sometimes those are challenging or, you know, difficult. Or I would say people get a little bit uncomfortable, talking about that. And, Like, hey. We're not gonna make change unless we get a little bit uncomfortable. And let's be uncomfortable together, and let's do the right things and support toward each other moving forward. So I don't know if you wanted all that, but you got it, sir.

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

4/ In response, David ‘Wil’ Riggins, the FAA’s Vice President of Flight Program Operations, says, "That's great, honestly. Those are some words that we really need to spend some time digging through and thinking about." https://t.co/pDftSZZQc5

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

5/ This footage, which is from April of 2022, is a sign of a much larger problem. Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard from several members of the aviation industry who tell me that DEI is endangering the public and distracting them from their work.

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

6/ A second source — a pilot I’ve confirmed works at Delta — tells me that Delta has recently promoted a trans-identifying pilot who repeatedly received bad reviews from captains. According to the source, this pilot “would likely not have” survived probation if he weren’t trans. https://t.co/VnnTVXbTeO

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

7/ The source also notes that Delta routinely makes exceptions for trans-identifying pilots concerning grooming and behavioral standards. Internally, Delta has even published a lengthy guide for pilots who believe they were born in the wrong body. https://t.co/8aQszhqVJw

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

8/ This industry-wide embrace of overt mental illness afflicts every aspect of aviation. Another source told me that his job is to design advanced military systems, but he’s constantly side-tracked by DEI proposals like “gender inclusive seatbelts.” https://t.co/jtEqR8Q5JG

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

9/ Several sources have also sent me documentation about one of the FAA's largest programs, called "eFast," which prioritizes "Indian Tribal Owned corporations” and “Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Businesses” for billions of dollars in critical grant funding. https://t.co/3LyXkTGhAI

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

10/ The FAA’s Master Order Agreement for eFAST states that certain FAA contracts for dollar amounts between $10,000 and $150,000 are “automatically reserved exclusively” for “Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Businesses”: https://t.co/Q2ExHrHYjg

@MattWalshBlog - Matt Walsh

11/ It's only a matter of time until this combination of incompetence and anti-white discrimination leads to a major air disaster. The aviation industry needs a completely new mandate — one that's focused solely on safety — before a lot of people die.

Dear Lord these reporters haven't got the memo yet. Karoline Leavitt is not here to play around. She was pressed about DEI in the aviation field and her answer was PERFECT! I think we all know the answer to that question."

The president has the authority to review troop deployments at any time. Regarding air traffic control staffing, there are concerns about potential incidents due to reduced staffing levels. The president is focused on increasing staffing and has taken action by terminating DEI hiring practices at the FAA. Following a recent crash, he directed an assessment of the FAA to uphold aviation safety standards. The emphasis is on hiring based on merit and skills rather than identity politics, which has affected morale and led to lawsuits from industry professionals. Ultimately, the priority is ensuring safety in aviation, not the demographics of the personnel involved.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: Considering doing that- in a short time. The president was asked and answered this question yesterday, and he, as the commander in chief of the United States military, reserves the right to review troop deployments overseas at any point in time. Is that a topic right now? Speaker 1: Yes. Thank you. 2 questions. So we now know that the staffing was not normal at the air traffic tower. And so with the government raising the hiring of new federal workers and offering buyout, are you not afraid that more incidents of different kind could happen with less staffing in different agencies. Speaker 0: Well, the president is intent on ensuring that we are increasing staffing at these agencies. And that's why he signed a very strong executive order on his 2nd day in office immediately terminating, DEI hiring practices at the FAA. He also following the tragic crash as you all know in the Oval Office yesterday signed a memorandum, directing an immediate assessment of the FAA to ensure the federal government is maintaining the highest personnel in aviation safety standards. And I would also just say there's a cultural piece to this as well. If you are an American who has spent many years studying aviation and you, you know, graduate from school and you're an air traffic controller based on skill and merit and then you apply for a job and you're forced to fill out a biographical questionnaire asking you the color of your skin and asking you where you're from in details that aren't relevant at all to the job description, I think that deteriorates the morale of people in this industry and if you talk to people in this industry they'll tell you that. In fact, many of them filed a lawsuit against the FAA, met a couple of years ago under Joe Biden's administration because they were denied positions because of this a DEI hiring practice that was putting identity politics over merit and skills. That's unacceptable and I think just to put a fine point on this because this is the 3rd or 4th question I've answered on this subject. When you are flying on an airplane with your loved ones, which every one of us in this room has, do you pray that, your plane lands safely and get you to your destination or do you pray that the pilot has a certain skin color. I think we all know the answer to that question and as president Trump said yesterday it's common sense Rob Curley. Yeah I just like to follow-up.

I’m not sure if they have a name, but @EndeavorAir promotes all-female flight crews, calling them "unmanned cockpits." This is completely unrelated to the recent crash and the pilots' genders. Just a casual observation—nothing to see here!

@Just_Ed609 - Hugh Jaynus

I don’t know that they’ve been named… On a completely unrelated topic, @EndeavorAir likes having all female flight crews, coining the phrase, "unmanned cockpits" to describe crews where everyone is female, again, completely unrelated to the sex of the pilots in this particular crash! Nothing to see! Please disperse!

Aviation experts who reviewed footage of the Delta Flight 4819 crashing in Toronto say that the plane hit too hard on landing that made the right landing gear penetrate through the right wing of the plane. We know the pilot was Kendal Swanson. We know Delta still practices DEI. https://t.co/Mwktv9nv2D

Video Transcript AI Summary
Delta Flight 4819, with 76 passengers and four crew members, skidded down the runway at over 100 mph, flipped, and caught fire. A hard landing is suspected to have caused the right landing gear to collapse, with the wing snapping off on impact. Experts believe the wing's detachment helped maintain the cabin's structural integrity, protecting passengers. Passengers found themselves hanging upside down, held by sturdy seatbelts, and assisted each other. The well-trained crew and quick response from airport firefighters were critical in the safe evacuation of everyone on board within ten minutes, just before the fuel reignited. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the crash's cause, with the investigation expected to take months.

Speaker 0: 76 passengers and four crew members narrowly escaped disaster after Delta four eight one nine skids down the runway at over a hundred miles per hour, flips upside down, and bursts into flames. Investigators are now scrambling to piece together how the crash took place and how each passenger aboard the plane survived. It comes after a series of deadly plane crashes over the last two months. Here's what we know so far. Delta Flight four eight one nine, operated by Regional Endeavor Air, is a Canadian built Bombardier CRJ 900. The 16 year old narrow body plane is described by experts as a workhorse for flights between midsize cities. Chris Finlison is a former Endeavor pilot. He's flown into Toronto Airport dozens of times, and in fact, he's flown the very route of the plane that crashed on Monday. Speaker 1: We only flew CRJs at Endeavor. We were the largest operator actually of the CRJ 900 in the world. And it's a it really is. It's a great airplane to fly. Speaker 0: Investigators are now reviewing this video. The plane with its landing gear appearing down rapidly descends. It's canted or angled to the right to compensate for a 40 mile an hour crosswind. As the plane touches down, the right landing gear appears to collapse, causing the plane's starboard wing to begin scraping the runway. Flames and thick black smoke block our view of the plane as it overturns. ABC News spoke with aviation experts who highlighted three key elements in this video, the plane's landing gear, its wing, and its fuselage. Speaker 1: When you come into land and then you roll out, it's very easy to end up pulling the nose a little bit too high. But you notice when I pull the nose a little too high, the wheels are back here and you get kind of that motion where you end up driving your main landing gear into the the runway. Speaker 2: When we hit down, it seemed like we hit pretty hard. And I thought, okay, this is a pretty rough landing, but I've I've had that before. And then all of a sudden, the plane started listing and turning to the right. Speaker 0: That hard landing is what some experts believe contributed to the collapse of the CRJ nine hundred's right landing gear. Speaker 3: The impact on the right main gear has driven the gear past its limitations, and and in the vernacular, it's it's driven the gear up through the wing. Speaker 0: Inside the plane, passengers described feeling the heat emanating from a fire outside the cabin. Speaker 4: It was just incredibly fast. There was a giant firewall down the side. I could actually feel the heat through the through the glass. Speaker 0: Images taken after the crash clearly show the right wing snapped off the fuselage while the right landing gear was ripped off the plane. According to multiple aviation experts, the split second loss of the wing, which holds half the jet's fuel, might have helped ensure the structural integrity of the cabin and the safety of its passengers. Speaker 5: If you are actually experiencing such a hard impact that you know the plane is crashing, which would have been the case here, then you would want it to snap off because the alternative is that your fuselage would have been structurally the weakest point, in which case it would have crunched and torsioned. Speaker 3: All of these airplanes are metallic eggshells. When they're used exactly as they're designed, they're incredibly strong. And and that's exactly what happened here because the cabin wasn't breached. It retained its structural integrity. Speaker 0: As the plane slowed to a stop, the 76 passengers on board found themselves hanging upside down in the cabin, locked in place thanks to modern seats and belts that can withstand immense g forces. Speaker 2: I was hanging definitely by the seat belt, which they are very sturdy because I'm I'm not a little fella. And, you know, everybody, everybody was helping their neighbor. Speaker 0: The final factor that saved the lives of the passengers and crew was likely the plane's well trained crew and the fast response from the airport's firefighters, experts said. Speaker 1: So when you have something that that is so abnormal and so outside of what your psyche can kinda deal with, you go to your foundational knowledge. And that's what you do as a airline employee is you have a strong foundational knowledge. When emergencies happen, you just go to your instinct, and your instincts are to get people out safely. Speaker 0: By 02:21PM, less than ten minutes after the crash landing, every passenger and crew, many of whom reported the intense smell of jet fuel emanating throughout the cabin, safely exited the plane, escaping just moments before the fuel ignited once again. Investigators with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada are beginning to uncover clues about the cause of the crash, with an investigation expected to take months.
