Ontario is focusing on improving air quality in schools and childcare centers to benefit children's health, learning, and test scores. The government is introducing the Improving Air Quality for Our Children Act, which includes three key provisions. First, CO2 monitors will be installed in classrooms and other spaces. Second, CO2 levels will be publicly reported using a color-coded system. Lastly, the Minister of Education will work with experts to develop an Air Quality Action Plan and report on the actions taken. The bill was created in consultation with ventilation and air quality experts, public health experts, education and childcare partners, and parents. The government is urged to adopt this bill to ensure the best learning conditions for Ontario's children.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: Every parent in Ontario wants our children to be able to learn in the best possible conditions. And, one of the things we've learned in the past few years is that good air quality is essential to ensuring our children's health and well-being, in addition to being an important factor in their ability to learn well. Addressing air quality in schools and childcare centers helps to reduce the spread of infectious diseases like COVID, RSV, and flu, which we know is incredibly important after seeing how full pediatric ERs were last fall: Good ventilation also protects against pollution and air quality issues like wildfire smoke, another issue we experienced firsthand this year and which we know will become only more important with climate change. But studies have also shown that improving air quality can boost children's test scores in math and reading. Given the government's emphasis on math and reading right now, I am sure they will want to do everything within their power to boost children's test scores. That's why today, we are tabling the Improving Air Quality for Our Children Act. The Act has 3 key provisions that will help to improve the air quality in our classrooms and licensed child care facilities. It requires all classrooms and congregate spaces such as lunchrooms, music rooms, and gymnasiums to have a CO2 monitor installed. It requires public reporting of CO2 levels using a color coded system that identifies when CO2 levels approach or exceed a maximum threshold set by the bill, and it requires the Minister of Education to convene experts to develop an Air Quality Action Plan with measures to be taken when CO2 levels approach or exceed the maximum threshold with public reporting on all actions taken. This bill was developed in consultation with experts in ventilation and air quality, public health experts, education and child care partners, and parents. We hope that the government will pay attention to this broad coalition of support, do the right thing, and adopt this bill to ensure that our children have the best, safest possible learning conditions in Ontario.

They reject the term terrorism and justify acts of violence as defending the Al Masid Al Aqsa. They criticize the Muslim ummah for not taking action and defend those who defend the mosque.

If you can't help this situation, shut up. Thinking, oh, Allah, Curse the Jews and the children of Israel. What Hamas from Gaza did. They have done something which we are we are pleased with. Let me, oh God, take care of the enemies of the Muslims, oh lord of the worlds, from the oppressive Jews, oh lord of the worlds. Alhamdulillah, they They gave the enemy a punch on the nose. Alright? And and it's a very welcome punch on the nose. The only solution is jihad By the armies of the prophet said thank you. It is a duty upon the Muslim leaders to fulfill the command of jihad. They must carry up military action. Speaker 0: We stand with the resistance of Palestine. Speaker 2: Alhamdulillah, this morning, the heroes of Gaza broke through the enemy lines of Beirut. If Muslim ummah is still sleeping, Then it does not mean that someone who is courageous enough to defend Al Masid Al Aqsa that we have to blame them for that. No.

Speaker 0: And stuff. After being there, man, holy shit. I feel like people have no idea. I didn't even know what the hell is going on until I went to Palestine and saw how crazy it was. But What are you like? Speaker 1: Tell me give me your thoughts and your Speaker 0: So everyone mistakenly thinks that Hamas, like, controls Palestine. That not true at all. There's there's but 3 different areas that were drawn up with the original partition. It's the West Bank, which is totally under military rule by Israel, and then there's the Gaza Strip, which is like the open air prison, which they bomb the shit out of, like, every couple years, and Hamas controls that area. And then there's Jerusalem, which is an international city center, but, that both Arabs and Jews live in. But the West Bank has been occupied militarily since 1967, and it's complete martial law. There's checkpoints. But all political parties are illegal. You can't having a gun is, like, the least of it. You can't hold a flag. You can't belong to a political party. You literally can't do shit if you're a Palestinian. You just have to sit there and submit. And if even if you share a photo of someone who was, like, killed by an Israeli soldier, you go to jail. And you go to jail for the amount of, like, months that What? Yeah. Based on the shares and likes of the photo, they'll they'll I'll penalize you more and put you in prison for longer and longer. I mean, I'll I'll just tell Speaker 1: you once you put a photo on social media. Like, you put someone on Facebook. Speaker 0: And they'll be like, you're a martyr and inciting people to, like, commit suicide, like, on behalf of Palestinians. You go to jail and and they put them in jail. There's But 99.7% conviction rate, kids are tortured, kids are in prison. It is absolutely insane. We went to the 1st day that we were there, we went to a funeral of some guy, some farmer who was shot by Israeli forces, and we went to the funeral. It was horrible. You know, all the women are wailing and crying. And But as we're leaving, the Israeli forces had set up a checkpoint right outside of this dude's house and started tear gassing and shooting rubber bullets, like, at people who were simply attending the funeral just to punish people for attending the funeral. We went to another girl's house named Aya who's, but who got shot in the vagina for peacefully protesting at some protest. And they shot 2 But they shoot they shot 200 people that day. 1 guy next to her died. Another guy was paralyzed. They have a policy called shoot to cripple where they shoot guys in the dicks. Yeah. But it is fucking nuts, man. The West Bank is no joke. I thought that I was gonna die several times. We're at this checkpoint going through Calandia, But, you know, my partner, Mike, who was an invading soldier of Iraq, was just like, we're gonna die. Like, they're shooting the sky. There's bolts ricocheting. I it was absolutely insane. And as we go through the checkpoint, the soldiers are like, hey. Stay safe out there. And I was like, yeah. When you guys are arbitrarily shooting But people and and the person who was driving us had just told us that a couple months prior to that, some woman, Palestinian woman because you can't go to Jerusalem, like, if you're Palestinian. There's, like, barely any Palestinians were even allowed to go pray at the most holy site, the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. You can't go to the beach. You're just completely constricted in a prison, and you can't travel. And and he was just telling us that months before we went through this checkpoint, someone was going through the checkpoint because they got a permit to go into Jerusalem, which is like a lifetime golden ticket, like Willy Wonka. But and they're walking and they get and she just got executed. And then What? Yeah. She just got executed. And she was bleeding out at this checkpoint, and her little brother tried to help her, and they shot him too. And they're, like, hiding the video of this. Speaker 1: And this is just Speaker 0: the day because they fucking hate Palestinians, and Palestinians are are animals to these people. It's sick, man. It's sick. But it's really, really sick, Joe. And I I couldn't even get into Gaza. We were banned from going into this territory because I was told by the Israeli government that I was a propagandist and that I was, like, an enemy agent, and so I wasn't allowed to go into Gaza. So Gaza's hell, but the West Bank is in under martial law and everything's illegal, and you can't do a goddamn thing. And and it's super cool. Like, we went to this place called Ramallah that was just like, Oakland, where they're smoking weed. There's, like, openly gay people there. Like, it's just completely different than what people think of Palestine. You know? Speaker 1: People think of it as just a bunch of people with turbans on I'm blown himself out. Speaker 0: Hamas is like, you know, you elected Hamas. And, like, well, Hamas doesn't want Israel to exist. It's like, well, actually, Hamas is controlling this one area But for a reason, because it was built as this surplus when Israel was created. Millions of refugees were put miles away from the homes that they were ethnically cleansed from and put into refugee camps in Gaza. And when the Israeli military wanted more and more land by the way, all settlements in Israel are illegal. All of them are illegal in the West Bank, but they just keep creating more and more and more. And we would go to these villages of just Arab people living in these villages, and the settlers will come. You have to be a fanatical But fucking asshole to move from California to an Arab village in Palestine and set up a goddamn tractor trailer and just live on top of their home. And they can have them, you know, giant machine guns, they can firebomb you. They can shoot you. They can beat you up. They're protected by the state. You can go with a tractor trailer, set up a home. The state immediately runs a water line, a power line and and a military outpost to protect you, and the Arabs are just sitting there waiting to get killed or attacked. It's but absolutely insane. And the the way home demolitions work are insane too. Because, like, they either deliver a piece of paper with a rock over it and they're like, here, if you find it, but good for you. And if you don't, then you're screwed. And that's if you're lucky. If you're not lucky, you'll just your home will be invaded by settlers, But and you'll be forced out of your home. There's videos of this all over the Internet of, like, groups of settlers going and literally taking over Arabs' homes, and then they just are but forced out. It's crazy, man. It's it's completely way crazier than I ever could have imagined. Speaker 1: How long were you over there for? Speaker 0: A month. Woah. Yeah. But yeah. And we were, you know, we were simply and people wanna quabble about, like, oh, it's not apartheid. There are different fucking license plates for Arabs and Jews. Like, you cannot go to But areas, like, Israeli soldiers were arbitrarily set up checkpoints and just shut you out of your neighborhood and force you to walk 3 miles to your home. Like, they can do whatever they want because you are under martial law, But and you can't you have no mobility, like, you have no freedom. So it's really it's really bad. And, we just did a whole series on the empire files I was talking about how Israel was created up until today, and we go over, like, the settlements, the demolitions, the jail, and and why I think there's no hope from within Israeli society to change. But because it's becoming a more theocratic state and a more fascist state as it grows, because you have to be to maintain this Jewish supremacist state. But you have to be, like, more fascist and more controlling and more militaristic in in the way that you But rural society, just like the US. I mean, people who are considered outlier fringe assholes 30 years ago are now, like, the Christian evangelicals are now in power. It's really, really crazy. I mean, it's not the same because Israel is a white nationalist, like, ethno supremacist state. And you see the way that they treat Ethiopians and Israelis, it seems like a lot of Israelis well, think about this. In order to really reject the notion, like, you it's like rejecting being an American. It's, like, such a hard thing for people to And, like, you it's like rejecting being an American. It's, like, such a hard thing for people to really accept.

We need reliable power sources as our electricity demand is expected to double by 2050. The failure of the power grid in Texas, which resulted in 346 deaths, highlights the importance of having dependable energy sources. We are working with the federal government to establish a framework for small modular nuclear reactors and to develop our hydrogen infrastructure for zero-emission vehicles and net-zero homes. We are also making progress in geothermal and ammonia exports. Our goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, but we disagree with the federal government's unrealistic timeline that would require shutting down our production. We seek common ground and collaboration to find solutions.
Full Transcript
Speaker 0: Every time we bring wind and solar on, we have to bring an equivalent amount to back up on. And as we continue to grow, and we're expecting our electricity need to double, by 2050, it does us no good to have unreliable intermittent sources of power when we have such extremes in temperature in our province. I was very heavily, struck by this when I watched what happened in Texas. When Texas had their power grid fail, and they have a very similar structure of their market as we do, 346 people died. Like, this is life or death in a a province like ours, which is why ideological arguments aside, we have to make sure that liability and affordability are number 1. We can reduce emissions too, but we have to to make sure that we're doing it in a balanced way. We put together, with, our deputy ministers, my, deputy minister of energy is here as well. He's been leading our discussions with the federal government. We're working with them on establishing a framework for small modular nuclear reactors. We're working with them on building out our hydrogen infrastructure because the hydrogen economy is gonna be very important for 0 emissions vehicle vehicles as well as net zero homes in in our province. We've had some some great strides that we're making on things like, geothermal and, ammonia able to work with the federal government to create a a structure so that we can support ammonia exports to Japan through the Port au Prince Rupert, and then on, on top of that, trying to to find a a way to get to a a pathway of carbon neutrality by 2050, that's been our our proposal as we think that given enough time frame with incredible technology and ingenuity of of our industry in Alberta, we think we can get to a 2050 target. The dispute I have with the federal government is they want to speed up a timeline that is unrealistic and unachievable. And when you have an unachievable and unrealistic time frame, it's not an emissions reduction policy. It's a shut in policy. It's a policy demand that that would require us to shut in our production, and we're just simply not gonna do that. It's it's unconstitutional for them to ask it of us. But I think that there's some great room from for common ground, and that's what I'm I'm here with the spirit collaboration. So I hope we can find some of that.

Greetings in the traditional languages of the Treaty 7 people. Today, we gather to honor those who fought for our freedoms, reflecting on the selflessness and sacrifice of military service. Many serve out of family tradition or a calling to humanity, risking their lives for our safety. We must remember and appreciate their sacrifices. Throughout the year, opportunities exist to learn about Canadian military history and the stories of those who served. Engaging with this history fosters understanding and compassion. It’s heartening to see Calgarians participating in ceremonies and learning about our heroes. Today, we pause our routines to acknowledge our fortunate lives in a peaceful country. I cherish the connections I've made with veterans and service members, which inspire me to raise awareness of military service's significance. My heartfelt gratitude goes to the families of the fallen, veterans, and active service members for their sacrifices. Thank you.

Speaker 0: Are greetings in the traditional languages of the Treaty 7 people who stewarded these lands for generations before many of us came to settle here with major Kritar Singh Bradd, who is my grandfather. He not only showed me love and kindness, I have been told the stories of his compassion and support to many displaced people who were forced to relocate during the partition of India many years ago. Good morning to all of you who have taken the time today to gather at the military museums to honor those who fought for our freedoms. And let me welcome you with, and Tansing. These are greetings in the traditional languages of the Treaty 7 people who stewarded these lands for generations before many of us came to settle here. Indigenous ways of knowing and being have always prioritized living in harmony and in peace, a fundamental principle that we continue to see compromise throughout the world. On this day when we remember the fallen and offer respect for the veterans who defended our rights, as well as active service members who still take up the cause, we must focus on the level of selflessness and sacrifice that military service requires. For some service in the armed forces is rooted in family tradition. For others, it is a calling to the ultimate service in the name of humanity. Regardless what the reasons are for entering into military service, today is the time to appreciate and acknowledge that there were incredible human beings who gave their lives for us so we could exist in this place and time. There are people right now who are willing to step into harm's way and offer their lives in exchange for ours to be safe. This is not a small sacrifice to leave behind your comfortable life and your family, to protect society. The very least we can do is spend this one critical day in reflection and in remembrance and respect of those who serve. And if you can make the time, there are opportunities throughout the year to learn much more about the Canadian military history that we should know of About the people who paid the ultimate price for us, as well as those who are still in our communities and have so many stories to share with us. There are historians and service members who regularly assemble artifacts, whether those are photos and paintings or medals and uniforms. They create beautiful displays that invite us to feel the experiences that defined our nation. Such exhibitions are supported in places like the military museums, post secondary institutions, branches of the Royal Canadian Legion, and in many schools throughout our city. Engaging with our history is an important way to understand the complex stories of those who served, what they lived through, and what they died for. Last year, I questioned whether we truly appreciate the words and phrases that we use in ceremony, phrases like lest we forget, and we will remember them. I asked if we fully appreciate those who remain unknown to us, for whom we were equally unknown, those who fought and died, and those who came back as a shell of their former selves. Could we ever fully honor and acknowledge them? And I am encouraged to tell you that in the last year, I have seen greater numbers of Calgarians turn out to the military museums for the special displays and ceremonies that they host to honor the heroes of the Canadian Armed Forces. It is also heartwarming to know that school children are engaging with the field of crosses, and the numbers are growing. Their knowledge of southern Albertans who died in service is making them very well educated and compassionate leaders of tomorrow. I wanna thank the Calgarians who, just like all of you who are gathered here today, have taken the time to learn more about and be present at the many ceremonies that are throughout our city today. And to all of you who have kept awareness of military service at the forefront, I'm expressing gratitude on behalf of myself, Calgary City Council, and all Calgarians who are embracing histories that they did not know existed. Thank you for instilling in us that this day is one that we should all hold sacred in our hearts as well as our minds. It is a day where we need to stop our daily routines and our daily worries and focus solely on how fortunate we are to live in a country and a city where we can exist peacefully together with each other. It is a day to make human connections that teach us that the bonds holding us together will forever be stronger than the divisions that are created by fear and hatred. Each year, I also share with you my own deep connections. I am blessed to have had a childhood where I was able to spend many days with Major Kritar Singh Bradd, who is my grandfather. He not only showed me love and kindness, I have been told the stories of his compassion and support to many displaced people who were forced to relocate during the partition of India many years ago. And how grateful I am to have met and spent time with David Hines, my brother-in-law, who served in the Canadian Armed Forces in the Royal Canadian Artillery and Fire Services, who put his life on the line in active military service and as a firefighter who was taken from us far too soon. In my lifetime, I have also had the privilege to spend time with good folks from HMCS Calgary, HMCS Tecumseh and the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry here in Calgary. I've also had time to spend with service members in Shiloh, in Wainwright and in Winnipeg. These are the human connections and they are the fundamental reason that I continue to raise awareness of the significance of military service. All the stories matter because they put a human face to the history, and that allows us to honor and remember the people who made the greatest sacrifice for all of us. Today, my heart is with the families of the fallen, as well as our veterans and our active service members and all of your families. Sincere gratitude for your service as well as your sacrifice. Thank you. Speaker 1: Thank you, Mayor Gondek. Again, you always seem to know what to say at these ceremonies. And as a serving member myself, it is appreciated.

The situation we're in, is a situation I've seen many other peoples throughout the planet from Venezuela to Cuba to Ukraine and other countries that are far less privileged or have been far less privileged than Canada has been. Those are situations that I'm well accustomed with, situations where, populist leaders or, threats from outside, start to grow and where independence, our way of life comes under threat. These are difficult times to reckon with. And with 14 years spent in conflict areas, I thought that here was something that I could bring back to, politics. As someone who's been to the front lines, as someone who's spent time speaking with people tortured, with mothers having lost their children, I do know what that reality looks like in practice. And it is one that we will, as Greens, do everything in our power to avoid. So I was extremely, extremely glad when the party reached out to me and asked me to come back to assume pending a vote by the members, the position of coleader for the Green Party of Canada.

Who are the owners of Canada? https://t.co/RG3rX6pHbz

Video Transcript AI Summary
The speaker discusses a meeting between Carney and Trump, suggesting Trump "steamrolled" Carney, and questions who truly owns Canada. The speaker claims Canada is a corporation, not a country, pointing to the term "stakeholders" in Canadian policies. They identify 10 billionaire families who allegedly monopolize key sectors like communications, media, oil, and mining, including the McCain, Katz, Fidani, Richardson, Saputo, Rogers, Patterson, Irving, Weston, and Thompson families. The speaker highlights Canada's trade dependence on the United States. They define stakeholders as those benefiting from resources and holding management rights. The speaker mentions Mike Myers' alleged involvement in the P Diddy case. They also allege that billions of dollars were transferred by the Governor General while parliament was closed and suggest King Charles' visit to open parliament implies Canada is still part of the crown, speculating this may accelerate Canada becoming the 51st state.

Speaker 0: Did you guys see the meeting between, Carney and Donald Trump where Donald Trump pretty much steamrolled Carney and Carney sat there like a little girl basically saying, Canada's not for sale. And I consolidated with the owners of Canada. And everybody's wondering who the owners are. And a bunch of people are saying it's us Canadians that are the owners. I'm pretty sure we don't have any rights, okay? We're just tax slaves to the crown. And if you're wondering and saying things like, well, we're not part of the crown anymore. In the eighties, we got our own independence and we got our own charter of rights that was never signed into being. So it's not a real country. Why is King Charles coming at the May to open up our parliament? Isn't that a little weird and ceremonious? But hey, you know what? That's just my conspiracy mind going all over the place. Anyway, I decided to look into who the owners of Canada are, and I found a bunch of policies. Every policy I've read, whether it was like policy horizon or UN policies or anything to do with the future of Canada, it always states stakeholders into Canada. Stakeholders because Canada's a corporation, not a country. And the interesting thing is I found 10 families who are billionaires in Canada who absolutely own and monopolize everything from communications to, newspapers MSM, to oil, to mining and everything, which is why Canada is not a free enterprise and they do not allow competition to come in, which is why Canadians pay the highest cell phone bills around the world. But let me just show you these 10 families. Now, if you go down to this website called Economics From the Top Down, this goes into detail what everything that is owned by these families. And you've got the McCain family, which is food, the Katz family, the Fidani family, which I believe is in real estate and owns almost all of, like, Toronto. The Richardson family, the Saputo family, again, food, the Rogers family, your cell phone providers. The Patterson family who owns basically a lot of advertising, and they started off as a dealership, then went into, newspapers and thing. The Irving family oil, the Weston family, and the Thompson family. And Trump was 100% correct when he said that the Canada actually depends on The United States more than we do on them because this is our trade. These are our top four trade partners and look at how much we trade with The United States versus China versus The United Kingdom and then versus Japan. So then I went and looked into stakeholders and stakeholders refers to an individual or group that derives benefits from the use of resources and concern about a particular issue and or holds legal or de facto rights to manage or make decisions, especially down here, if you look at the green part. And what's really funny is the Mike Myers elbows up people, guess what? He got named in the P Diddy case. So elbows up you guys. Woo hoo. Woo. I actually think you guys did a good thing by electing Mark Carney because not only did billions of dollars get transferred by the governor general of Canada while parliament has been closed, which no one is talking about because you can't question anything, And it went into who knows where. But now we've got king Charles coming to open up our parliament almost as if saying that we're still part of the crown, but that's okay. Whatever. Honestly, I think you guys sped this deal up with us becoming the fifty first state. So good good job. Good job. Elbows up, crew.

Speaker 0: Way. The president has been trying to provoke violence here, right here, in the black communities and in the brown communities, having ICE kidnap our neighbors, having black having the black community be harassed and profiled and want, want a response. We say, hell no. We won't go. Speaker 1: Hell no. We won't go. Hell no. We won't no. We won't go. Speaker 0: When we say we won't go, that mean we're not going into their to those mass incarcerated into into their prisons and Speaker 1: Hell no. We won't go. Hell no. We won't go. Hell no. We won't go. Speaker 0: Today, we get today today, we gather to speak plainly about policy path that sounds strong, but in truth, it weakens the very safety we see. We believe there is a better way to protect us all. One that respects rights to build trust and keep our communities truly safe and that is fascism free. Free is not a road map to safety. It is a burial. It fails it fails hardest on the black communities that already repair disproportionate share of surveillance, stops, and forces. Speaker 1: This is Speaker 0: a I wanna be clear. We've been here before. This is a long history. Well before today, the black communities brand the brunt of aggressive policing. Right. Data and reports from many credible organizations show patterns. Black people are more likely to be stopped, searched, questioned, arrested, and harmed encounters with the law. When we add the president of federal agents or the national guard to daily life in these neighborhoods, the burden can multiply. Not by making harm more rare, but making it more visible and more likely to escalate. So be clear. This has been going on. But as you bring more policemen, it's gonna escalate. Black Washingtonians have long recognized that community violence cannot be solved through state violence and have asked for meaningful investments and solutions that are proven to work. Racist over policing goes beyond DC as the roots of American policing in many regions like in slave patrol. Police have been enslaving and murdering black people with freedom for punishment for centuries. I stand in front of you today with a signal to the residents of DC and the country that we will not be idle as oppressive structures try to harm our communities and take power. The fight for black liberation and the liberation of all people will not stop no matter our oppression, intimidation, manipulation tactics. We have the right to command respect, to protect ourselves, and protect each other. And as the executive director of Hurts, Wilder Springs, I wanna name White people's civil rights have never been in danger because they are white. The white civil rights represents the desire from the Jim Crow, full stop. At hers, riders dreams, and as we support free DC, we're fighting against mass incarceration, policing, ICE, violence towards immigrants and Muslims, violence in Palestine, worker exploitation, and more. We're fighting for freedom and safety for all people.
