Biden commuted the sentences of numerous high-profile scammers, including Paul Burks, James Fry, and Nevin Shapiro, who were involved in massive Ponzi schemes and defrauded thousands of victims. Many victims, like those in North Carolina, continue to suffer long-term consequences from these scams. Despite Biden's claims that "no one is above the law," his actions have raised concerns about his sympathy for the perpetrators over the victims. This unprecedented mass commutation has left many questioning the administration's priorities.

Ten years ago, a Ponzi scheme known as Zeekler and its advertising division, Zeek Rewards, targeted many in a small North Carolina city. Promising unrealistic returns, victims invested thousands, believing they were making a sound investment. When the scheme collapsed in August 2012, it was revealed to be the largest Ponzi scheme by number of victims in history. Paul Burks, the founder, was sentenced to nearly 15 years in prison for fraud. Despite the hardships faced by victims, including families like the Chavezes, who lost their savings while seeking medical treatment for their daughter, the community is moving forward. The former Zeekler building now serves as a nonprofit supporting children. Recently, $371 million was returned to victims, but Burks remains incarcerated, with a possible release date in 2028.

Speaker 0: Came under fire. Families who fell victim are still trying to get by. Speaker 1: You never know what I'm gonna pull on you when you come in, do you? Speaker 0: 10 years ago, in a small city partially known for pulled pork with a side of southern hospitality Speaker 1: Dollar Tree. Speaker 0: The largest Ponzi scheme in history in terms of victims was almost pulled off. Speaker 1: Everybody was coming in here talking about it. Everybody. Speaker 0: Carla Kerns couldn't cut out the memory if she wanted to. Speaker 1: My customers were coming in saying, oh, I got this thing you need to get into. You can make a lot of money. Speaker 0: Customers, some affluent, some not, sitting in her chair with claims of elevating their bank accounts through a company called Zeekler and its advertising division Zeek Rewards being run out of this unassuming building on West Center Street. Speaker 1: Since you sit here doing hair all day, you've got the opportunity to get all these people involved. Speaker 0: Until August 2012. Speaker 2: Most mornings, there there were cars just all around the building. People lined up. Speaker 0: When all of it Speaker 1: It's too good to be true. It usually is. Speaker 0: Came crashing down. Speaker 3: It's something as we all see in the news that happens in California, New York, Florida, and the Speaker 4: big metropolitan cities, Charlotte. Speaker 3: But in Lexington, North Carolina, it's, a little strange. Speaker 0: It was advertised as an international penny auction site paired with a reward system for recruiting even more people who then put in even more money for bids. Promising a bogus 125% return on investment, some of them put 1,000 of dollars in it. Speaker 5: And everything is hers. Speaker 0: Including the Chavez', whose daughter, Sere, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009. Speaker 5: The most important is that we could have Speaker 2: money, you know, whenever we need it for her. Speaker 0: A month after pouring their entire savings into Ziegler, $7,000, Sarah Chavez was out doing what she thought was completely legal. Speaker 5: I was trying to invite somebody else to do the same, and then that person is the one that told me, oh, you haven't seen the news? Speaker 0: She was far from alone. The population of her city at the time was less than 20,000. To equal the total amount of people who fell for Ziegler, you'd have to multiply that figure by 50. Speaker 6: That that's staggering. To my knowledge, it's by far the largest Ponzi scheme by number of victims in history. Speaker 0: As the victim who put up this sign on the Ziegler headquarters started to lose hope that it wasn't too good to be true. Speaker 1: And I just saw the yellow sign. So we forgive you. Who who would write that? That doesn't make any sense. Speaker 0: The items others across the globe had hoped would build their fortune Speaker 7: It truly becomes, a worldwide event, when you have, something like this. Speaker 0: Were laid down and auctioned away. All part of the receivership looking to return Speaker 3: No. Speaker 0: I do for some of what the near 1000000 people had lost. Speaker 1: Yeah. You took people's money. And if they're not gonna get it back, then, you know, that's something you should pay for. Speaker 0: About four and a half years after the line surrounding Ziegler came to a halt Speaker 3: I couldn't believe it was going on with Lexington. Speaker 0: Its founder, Paul Burks, who lived just minutes away, was sentenced to nearly 15 years on 4 felony fraud charges. Speaker 6: That's a long time, especially for a 70 year old man. Speaker 0: In May of this year, he penned this letter as part of his latest effort to get out of federal prison in Butner, North Carolina, the same place infamous Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff died last year. Speaker 7: He was denied. Everywhere was secure, and there was no way in here. So I don't know if that's almost like a fortress. Speaker 0: It's how they kinda had it. Although remnants remain Speaker 7: Josh only knows what they had stored. I assume cash or something valuable. Speaker 0: The building Ziegler used to occupy has new, honorable life, the home of nonprofit Smart Start of Davidson County, providing opportunities for young children and helping them reach their potential. Speaker 7: It's rock and roll time for us. August is always busy. So, yeah, we don't I don't really give it a second thought anymore. Speaker 0: Meanwhile, the Sanchez's still have their challenges with a 5 year old on the autism spectrum. Speaker 5: Life is still tough because we're learning with him. Speaker 0: Yesterday, Sarree included, marched forward despite the man who set them back a decade ago. Speaker 5: I can't really say I'm happy that a person is being, like, put in jail, no freedom, credit, I guess, get what he deserves. Speaker 0: A week before Burks wrote that letter from prison, which is right here, the Zeke Rewards Receivership website posted saying it had returned $371,000,000 to the scheme's victims. The first line of the statement reads, the final distribution has been completed. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Burks could be released on the day after Valentine's Day 2028. Katie?

At 26, I launched Silk Road, a revolutionary platform that aimed to create a free marketplace using Bitcoin. Despite its initial success in proving Bitcoin's utility, I was arrested in 2013 and sentenced to two life terms plus 40 years, a punishment many deemed excessively harsh. From prison, I reflected on my journey and the impact I had on crypto. In 2025, I received a pardon from Trump, reigniting the debate over my legacy as either a digital freedom fighter or a cautionary tale. Innovation often exists in gray areas, and my story is a testament to that.

He had a happy childhood, growing up an easygoing hipster but serious student who scored 1,460 on his SATs within the 96th percentile and got a full ride to the University of Texas at Austin where he studied physics. He then won another full scholarship for a master's at Penn State in material science and engineering. But really, his was more of a libertarian viewpoint. I mean, it was like, you choose what you wanna do for yourself and do it. And and the way Silk Road kind of had the anonymity is it used what's called Tor, the the onion router, which is, an anonymizing, function on, on the deep web. It was actually invented by the US Navy, back in the mid nineties or so, but it also used cryptocurrency. So it was the first time, like, we saw this birth on the Internet, mixing cryptocurrency, and, an IP blocking software. So

This is not immigration enforcement. This is Soviet style political persecution of political dissidents under the guise of immigration enforcement. This is not someone with a criminal record. This is a mom of American citizens who works at Target and has started a community nonprofit. This is not something that makes our community safer in my mind. I think it makes our community flawless.

Speaker 0: Speaker, it is an honor to serve with you. It is an honor to serve with you. And it is also an honor to stand here with my colleagues as we honor Latino Advocacy Day. I am feeling a lot because last night, in the middle of the night, a woman, a mother of three, who's committed no crime except for wanting to build a better life for her family, was detained and is on expedited deportation because she stands up for her communities here in Denver. Latino Advocacy Day started because of the unlawful and inhumane actions against immigrants. And I have been part of LAD for seventeen years. In 02/2008, Dolores Huerta came and marched with us, fighting for humanity and dignity. Yesterday, she was here marching with us, still fighting for humanity and dignity. We have Ladd because historically, buildings like this have not been open to black and brown people. So we created a day to say you are welcome. You are welcome in the people's house. And when they come to their house, they speak to some of you. They share their voices with some of you who will listen. And many of us who do show up and listen to what our communities have to say thank you. Latino advocacy day is a day when our communities have the courage to show up, and what do they get? They get deported. I am ashamed today. Utterly ashamed.

Meet Jeanette Vizguerra, the Left’s newest hero. She was just arrested by ICE in Colorado. Jeanette is in our country illegally, had multiple ICE detainer requests, was convicted of forged instrument possession, and was convicted of failure to display proof of insurance and driving without a license. She also posted this photo hoping for Trump to be kiIIed. Democrats and the media are claiming she’s just an innocent mom with no criminal history. They’re lying.

Breakdown of Jeanette’s full history with ICE by @BillMelugin_:

@BillMelugin_ - Bill Melugin

NEW: ICE confirms to @FoxNews that they arrested Jeanette Vizguerra, a convicted criminal Mexican illegal alien & immigration activist, in Aurora, CO yesterday. ICE confirms she has a final order of removal (deportation order) via a DOJ immigration judge, and has repeatedly had due process, including multiple stays of deportation. She notoriously hid in a Denver church for years to avoid deportation, and she has remained an immigration fugitive. Despite having a final order of removal stretching back to the Obama administration, several Democrat politicians in Colorado falsely claimed today that Vizguerra has had no due process, including Denver Mayor @MikeJohnstonCO, who called her arrest a “Putin-style persecution of a political dissident”, and Senator @MichaelBennet, who claimed ICE detained her “without any due process, like a deportation order.” ICE confirms she does, in fact, have a deportation order, and has had one for years. Below is the background & criminal history on Vizguerra up until 2019, according to ICE:   •On Feb. 5, 2009, the ICE Denver office lodged an immigration detainer on Vizguerra-Ramirez.   •On Feb. 26, 2009, the Arapahoe County Court, Centennial, Colorado, convicted Vizguerra-Ramirez of forged instrument possession 2nd degree, and sentenced her to a term of 23 days in jail.    •On Feb. 27, 2009, ICE took custody of Vizguerra-Ramirez from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office pursuant to an immigration detainer.   •On March 11, 2009, Vizguerra-Ramirez was released from ICE custody after posting an immigration bond.   •On March 27, 2009, Arapahoe County Court convicted Vizguerra-Ramirez of failure to display proof of insurance and driving without a license and ordered her to pay fines.   •On Nov. 18, 2011, a federal immigration judge denied Vizguerra-Ramirez her application for relief from immigration proceedings, but granted her a voluntary departure (considered an immigration benefit). She failed to depart the U.S. per the terms of the order within the 60-day window and instead filed an appeal with the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) on Dec. 16, 2011.   •On Sept. 8, 2012, Vizguerra-Ramirez self-removed to Mexico.   •On April 22, 2013, U.S. Border Patrol arrested Vizguerra-Ramirez in Candelaria, Texas, after she illegally returned to the U.S., and referred her case for federal prosecution for illegal re-entry after removal (a felony).    •On May 1, 2013, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, Pecos Division, convicted Vizguerra-Ramirez of illegal entry (a misdemeanor), and sentenced her to one year of unsupervised probation.   •On May 2, 2013, Vizguerra-Ramirez entered ICE custody in El Paso, Texas, where her prior removal order was reinstated, pending her Dec. 16, 2011, BIA appeal.   •On May 30, 2013, the BIA considered Vizguerra-Ramirez’s case withdrawn because she departed the U.S. prior to a decision being made on her appeal.   •On June 7, 2013, ICE in El Paso released Vizguerra-Ramirez on an order of supervision because under policy at the time she did not meet the agency’s priorities for removal.   •On July 2, 2014, ICE granted Vizguerra-Ramirez’s application for stay of deportation until Feb. 1, 2015.    •On Feb. 20, 2015, ICE in Denver granted Vizguerra application for stay of deportation until Aug. 19, 2015.   •On Feb. 15, 2017, ERO Denver denied another application for stay of deportation. Her counsel notified ICE that she would be taking sanctuary in the First Unitarian Society Church in Denver and would not be reporting to ICE as ordered.    •On May 11, 2017, Vizguerra-Ramirez received an automatic stay of removal due to Senate Bill 603, a private bill submitted on her behalf and her removal was stayed until March 15, 2019. The private bill was not enacted.   •On March 14, 2019, Vizguerra-Ramirez once again sought sanctuary at the First Unitarian Society Church in Denver where she remains an immigration fugitive.

🇺🇸ICE STRIKES AT DAWN: PEDOPHILE, HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER NABBED IN BOSTON SANCTUARY CITY RAID At 5:20 AM in suburban Boston, ICE agents arrested a convicted pedophile and a hit-and-run offender during a major operation targeting criminal illegal immigrants released by sanctuary policies. Acting Director Todd Lyon said working without local cooperation makes the job harder but emphasized ICE’s renewed mission under Trump’s first 100 days. With full leadership backing, ICE has ramped up arrests and morale is soaring. America’s worst offenders are now being removed — just as voters demanded. Source: Daily Wire

Video Transcript AI Summary
ICE was on the scene arresting an El Salvadorian national and convicted sex offender. According to an ICE acting director, the administration wants ICE to lead the country with high-profile arrests of criminal illegal immigrants. ICE is targeting the "worst of the worst" in Massachusetts, including those released by sanctuary jurisdictions or wanted for immigration violations. Sanctuary jurisdictions don't give ICE enough time to respond before releasing individuals, who then harm the migrant community. Under the Trump administration, ICE feels supported by leadership and has seen a surge in a "whole government approach," partnering with agencies like the FBI and DEA. In the first 100 days, ICE made more arrests than in the previous year, focusing on serious cases and previously deported individuals. The acting director stated that officers and agents feel they have the support of leadership, resources, and the backing of the American public, which has increased morale. During the multi-hour day with ICE, two arrests were made: a convicted pedophile and someone who committed a hit and run. Two additional illegal aliens were also arrested.

Speaker 0: Right now, we're on the scene with ICE, and they have just arrested a sex offender. He is now going into a car. He is chained by his ankles and his hands. He is an El Salvadorian national. Speaker 1: He's sick. It's the worst crime in the world when you when you sexually assault a child. I mean, the most innocent of us all. That's why I made a statement that one time was gonna go to Boston, bring hell with me. The media went crazy. At Tom Homestead, he's going from Boston, bring hell with Speaker 2: For years, you guys are the premier ones that are leading the country with these high profile arrests. This is what the administration wants. This is what the American people voted for. Speaker 0: Okay. So it's 05:20 in the morning. We're here in the suburbs of Boston meeting up with ICE. We're gonna be on a raid today with them. They say that there are some criminal illegal immigrants that we're going to be arresting and surveilling. So it's gonna be interesting, and we'll see what happens. Speaker 2: I'm Todd Lyons. I'm the acting director for ICE. Speaker 0: And what are we doing here today? Speaker 2: So today, we're out here. The Boston field office have a bunch of high profile targets, the worst of the worst that are out here in Massachusetts. Either they were released by a sanctuary jurisdiction who didn't honor an ICE detainer or they're wanted on some type of immigration violation here in The United States. Departure. Speaker 0: Can you talk about how it's difficult operating in a sanctuary jurisdiction? Speaker 2: These are actual public safety threats. Right? A jail, a police department, a sheriff's department, the state police have deemed these individuals a public safety threat and locked them up. Right. Yet instead of working with the federal government, they decide to them back on the street. Speaker 0: So let me be clear. Say somebody gets arrested for something and they're in jail for a local police and they're gonna release them. Do they tell you? Do they call you and tell you before? Speaker 2: Most jurisdictions will notify us, but it won't give us enough time to get there. ICE ICE here in Massachusetts has had a pretty small footprint. They don't have a lot of officers and agents, so they have to take time to respond out there. Speaker 1: I just take a minute to fill the car. Then you made it back. You got another meal in the lunchbox. I think walking up the line. Speaker 2: But jurisdictions need to work with us to give us that time to get there. If they don't give us the time, then individual's gonna get re released. Right. They re released, they go back into the community, usually to harm the migrant community that have fled the type of crimes for a better life. Yet, these predators go back and prey upon the immigrant community because sanctuary jurisdictions, you know, strike fear that ICE is gonna be out breaking up families, going to schools, going to churches, which is the father sacred picture. Speaker 1: So Speaker 0: we're about to hit president Trump's first one hundred days, which immigration has been a big focus. So tell me what's happened in the first hundred days. Speaker 2: First hundred days has been a total shift back to ICE out doing their job. Right? Actually, out doing the law enforcement mission, protecting communities. You've seen a large surge of a whole government approach. You have all of the whole entire ICE portfolio between enforcement removal operations, homeland security investigations that are now paired up with the FBI, DEA Speaker 0: Yeah. Speaker 2: Diplomatic Security Service. Right? So you have this whole government approach tackling to find all these worst of the worst, plus all these individuals that are here in The United States that have been previously deported or ordered removed lawfully by an immigration judge. The first hundred days, we did more arrest than the previous administration did last year. Wow. And I think when you look at those and you see those serious cases that were out there getting, it shows that this administration is serious about public safety and making America safe again. Speaker 0: How are things different under the Trump administration than it was before? I I was talking to some agents and I heard the terminology is different. How much resources you have from other agencies is different. So what's what's different? Speaker 2: You know, I I think one of the things is the feeling that officers and agents have the support of leadership. Right? You have the president that's out there really supportive of the mission, giving us all the resources we can. You have secretary Noem that's out there side by side with opposite agents, going on raids, seeing how we actually do things. We actually feel the backing to get out there and do our job. We also have the backing of the American public though. The big thing for us is morale has increased because we have that leadership backing that we never had before. Speaker 0: Right. We just finished a multi hour day with ICE. We made two arrests. The first one was a convicted pedophile. The second one was somebody who did a hit and run and and injured somebody. They also had a third arrest, which was supposed to be intended for a specific target. But once they got the van, they ended up arresting two other people who were not the targets but were illegal aliens in the country and were subject to being deported. So successful day. The director, this is actually his first time being on a raid since becoming the acting director about a month ago and had a lot to say about the first one hundred days.

Odette says he last saw his daughter when he dropped her off at a sleepover. Police say Crisha was crossing the street when she was struck by Guevara, who was wanted for driving without a license and speeding. Border patrol encountered Guevara twice before Crisha's death. Fifteen months prior, Odette's wife died from breast cancer, and he promised to protect their daughter. In 2014, a grand jury found insufficient evidence for criminal charges, and Guevara was released. In 2017, an immigration judge ordered his removal, but he wasn't apprehended until March 26 of this year. Odette believes that if immigration laws were enforced, his daughter and thousands of others would still be alive.

On Tuesday the interim US attorney resigned, and the Trump administration appointed an acting US attorney—the same person, Seagal Chadha, a Republican who lost a 2022 bid for attorney general, named interim US attorney starting April 1. By law she could serve 120 days, a term that ended Tuesday. The office confirmed Chadha resigned and was immediately named acting US attorney; she has not been formally nominated for the permanent job, which requires Senate confirmation. Asked about the legal maneuver, she said: "There was an opportunity under the law. I took that opportunity. It's not unconstitutional. It was not done in a nefarious manner." She said she knows "where all the bodies are buried" and insisted she received no complaints while interim. "I'm Israeli. I'm Jewish." She said polarization comes from what she knows. A caller noted her remark about AG Ford: "hung from an effing crane." She replied: "I'm a Yemenite Jew. We're the blacks of The Middle East." She added: "Historically, there has not been an incentive to go after human trafficking... We're going to go after human trafficking. Yes. Yes."

Speaker 0: Building behind me is the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada. On Tuesday, the interim US attorney resigned, and the Trump administration appointed an acting US attorney. But get this, it's the same person. Seagal Chadda, a Republican attorney who lost a race in 2022 for attorney general, was named interim US attorney by the Trump administration starting April 1. By law, she could only serve one hundred and twenty days, a term that ended Tuesday. But the US attorney's office confirmed Chadha had resigned and was immediately named acting US attorney. Chadha has not been formally nominated for the permanent job, which requires senate confirmation. Speaker 1: What can you say about the legal maneuver which resulted in you becoming the acting U. S. Attorney here? Speaker 2: So, you know what the politicians call legal maneuvers, and you know, politicians politics and we play by the rule of law. There was an opportunity under the law. I took that opportunity. It's not unconstitutional. It was not done in a nefarious manner. And there is nothing that politicians can do about A lot of these people I know that they're scared because I know where a lot of bodies are buried because Speaker 3: like I said, I'm Israeli, I'm Jewish. Speaker 2: Oh, know, without saying too much about my previous experience as a defense attorney but when you play that side, you know where all the bodies are buried sometimes you even choose the location to bury them Speaker 3: me like I said I'm I'm Israeli. I'm I'm Jewish. Speaker 4: Chadha not revealing what she means specifically. She insists she received no complaints while on the job as interim US attorney. Speaker 1: Why do you think you're so polarizing? Speaker 2: It's not that I'm a politically poll polarizing person. It's that I know where all the bodies are buried. That's what scares them. So this isn't about me being an extremist. Speaker 3: For me, like I said, I'm I'm Israeli. I'm I'm Jewish. Speaker 5: Sent a text to a former friend about AG Ford. You said he should be, and I quote, hung from an effing crane. I I have to just ask off the top. I understand it was a private text to a friend, but why would you write that, those words? Speaker 2: The bottled water. Speaker 5: Bottled water fell It's Is that okay? Speaker 3: You guys got that right? Speaker 5: We'll take care of that. Speaker 2: The comparison that I had made was I compared him to a leader of Hamas. Speaker 5: And though even with your different political views than him, that well, that comment in America about an African American man, even if it's not how you intended it, could be deemed racist. Can you understand how people would hear it and see it that way? Speaker 2: I'm a Yemenite Jew. Okay? We're the blacks of The Middle East. There's no question about it. Okay? But corrupt people do go to jail and, you know, I I don't know that they get executed in The US but that was in comparison to a leader of Hamas and that's what they do to traders in The Middle East. Speaker 3: I mean, I'm a Yemenite Jew. It doesn't get much darker than, you know, than being a Yemenite Jew. Speaker 4: Her priority, she says, human trafficking. In Las Vegas, a well known sex trafficking hub, we haven't seen many federal cases. Speaker 2: Historically, there has not been an incentive to go after human trafficking. Speaker 1: So what are you doing to change that? Speaker 2: We're going to go after human trafficking. Yes. Yes.
