"You don't need a formal #conspiracy where interests are aligned." #Powerful #GeorgeCarlin

Video Transcript AI Summary
In California, certain interests align among influential individuals who share educational backgrounds, memberships in clubs, and board positions. They understand what benefits them and work towards it without formal meetings. The number of oil companies has decreased from 7 to 3, and this trend continues. In our country, choices that truly matter have been limited. We have only 2 political parties, a few insurance companies, and a handful of information sources. However, when it comes to less significant things like bagel flavors, there appears to be more variety, creating an illusion of choice. This lack of true freedom of choice is an important observation.

People need to listen to Yuri Bezmenov. He was a KGB defector that explained how marxists brainwash people. Looking at where we’re at now, he was right

Video Transcript AI Summary
The speaker discusses the process of ideological subversion, which aims to change Americans' perception of reality so they cannot defend themselves or their country. This brainwashing process occurs over four stages: demoralization, where Marxist ideology is taught to generations of American students; destabilization, which focuses on the economy and defense systems; crisis, which brings about a violent change in power; and normalization, where false promises and a big brother government take control. The speaker warns that the United States is in a state of undeclared total war against its own principles, and unless the country wakes up, disaster is imminent.

Speaker 0: The other 85% is a slow process, which we call either ideological subversion or active measures, in the language of the KGB or psychological warfare. What it basically means is to change the perception of reality of every American to such an extent that despite of the abundance of information, no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interests of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country. It's a great brainwashing, process, which goes very slow, and it's divided in 4 basic stages. The first one being demoralization. It takes from 15 to 20 years to demoralize a nation. Why that many years? Because this is the minimum number of years, which requires to, educate 1 generation of students in the country of of of your enemy exposed to the ideology of the enemy. In other words, Marxist Leninism ideology is being pumped into the soft heads of, of, of at least 3 generations of American students without being challenged or counterbalanced by the basic values of Americanism, American patriotism. The result, the result you can see, most of the people who graduated in sixties, dropouts, or half baked intellectuals are now occupying the positions of power in the government, civil service, business, mass media, educational system. You are stuck with them. You cannot get rid of them. They are contaminated. They are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli in a certain pattern. You cannot change their mind even if you if you expose them to authentic information. Even if you prove that white is white and black is black, you still cannot change the basic perception and the logic of behavior. In other words, these people, the process of demoralization is complete and irreversible. To get rid society of these people, you have you need another 20 or 15 years to educate a new generation of patriotically minded and and and, common common sense people who would be acting in favor and in the interest of the, of the United States society. Speaker 1: And yet these people who've been programmed, and as you say, in place and who are favorable to An opening with the Soviet concept. These are the very people who would be marked for extermination in this country. Speaker 0: Most of them, yes. Simply because the psychological shock when when they will see in future what the what the beautiful society of equality and social justice means in practice, obviously, they will revolt. They they they will, they they will be very unhappy, frustrated people. And the Marxist Leninist regime does not tolerate these people. They, obviously, they will join the links of dissenters dissidents. Unlike in present United States, there will be no place for dissent in in future Marxist Leninist America. Here, you can you can get popular, like, Daniel Ellsberg, and filthy rich, like Jane Fonda for being dissident, for criticizing your Pentagon. In future, these people will be simply squashed like cockroaches. Nobody is going to pay them nothing for their beautiful, noble ideas of equality. This, they don't understand, and, it will be greatest shock for them, of course. The demoralization process in the United States is basically completed already, for the last 25 years. Actually, it's overfulfilled because demoralization now reaches such areas where previously, not even Comrad von Drokhov and and all his experts would would even dream of such a tremendous success. Most of it is done by Americans to Americans, thanks to lack of moral standards. As I mentioned before, exposure to true information does not matter anymore. A person who was demoralized is unable to assess true information. The facts tell nothing to him. Even if I shower him with information, with with authentic proof, with documents, with pictures. Even if I take him by force to the Soviet Union and show him concentration camp, he will refuse to believe it until he he's going to receive a kick in the in his fat bottom. When a military boot crashes his then he will understand, but not before that. That's the tragic of the situation of demoralization. So, basically, America is stuck with with demoralization. And unless, Even if if you start right now here, this minute, you start educating new generation of Americans. It will still take you 15 to 20 years to turn the tide of, of ideological perception of reality, back to normal normalcy and and, patriotism. The next stage is destabilization. This time, subverter does not care about your ideas and the patterns of your consumption. Whether you eat junk food and get fat and flab, it doesn't matter anymore. This time, and it takes only from 2 to 5 years to destabilize a nation. It's what what matters is essentials, economy, foreign relations, defense systems. And you can see it quite clearly that in some areas, in such sensitive areas as as, defense and economy, the influence of Marxist Leninist ideas in the United States is absolutely fantastic. I could never believe it 14 years ago when I landed, in this part of the world, that the process will go that fast. The next stage, of course, is crisis. It it may take only up to 6 weeks to to bring a country to the verge of crisis. You can see it in Central America now. And after crisis with a violent change of power, structure and economy, you have so called the period of normalization. It may last indefinitely. Normalization is a cynical expression borrowed from Soviet propaganda. When the Soviet tanks moved into Czechoslovakia in 68, comrade Brezhnev said, now the situation in brotherly Czechoslovakia is normalized. This is what will happen in the United States if you allow all the schmucks to bring the country to crisis, to promise people all kind of goodies and the paradise on earth, to to destabilize your economy, to eliminate the principle of free market competition and to put a big brother government in Washington DC with the benevolent dictators like Walter Mondale who will promise lots of thing, never mind whether the promises are fulfilled or not. He will go to Moscow to kiss the bottoms of of new generation of Soviet assassins. Never mind. He will create false illusions that the situation is under control. Situation is not under control. Situation is disgustingly out of control. Most of the American politicians, media, and educational system trains another generation of people who think they are living at the peacetime, falls. United States is in the state of war, undeclared total war against the basic principles, and the foundations of of this system. And and the initiator of this war is not Comrade Dondropov, of course. It's it's the system. However ridiculous it may sound, the world communist system or the world communist conspiracy. Whether I scare some people or not, I don't give a hoot. If if you are not scared by now, Nothing can scare you. But you don't have to be paranoid about it. What what actually happens now that unlike myself, you have literally several years to live on unless United States wake up. That the time bomb is ticking. With every 2nd, the disaster is coming closer and closer. Unlike myself, you will have nowhere to defect to, unless you want to live in nontactical opinions. This is it. This is the last country of freedom and and possibility.

In the 1960s, NASA commissioned a study to understand how to hire more geniuses. George Land and his team tested a group of 5-year-olds for creativity. They defined genius as using creative imagination to solve problems. Surprisingly, 98% of the 5-year-olds qualified as geniuses. However, when the same group was tested at ages 10, 15, and as adults, the percentage of geniuses decreased significantly. By adulthood, only 2% of the participants were considered geniuses. George Land attributed this decline to the influence of school, stating that uncreative behavior and thinking are learned.

Speaker 0: Study that was done in the 19 sixties, and it was really, commissioned by NASA because they wanted to know how to hire more geniuses. So they hired George Land and his team to go out and figure out, like, what makes a genius. So they started with a group of 5 year olds, and they gave them a creativity test. So the way they defined genius was how do you use your creative imagination to solve problems? And what they found was, of this group of 5 year olds, 98% qualified as geniuses. Then they came back 5 years later, when this Group was 10 years old, and it was down to 30%. 5 years later, at 15, it was down to 12%, and then I think they just kinda gave up in, like, Discussed, but George Land took it further and went out and surveyed adults and found that only 2% of adults. And the thing that's also very interesting is he attributed this to school, 100% to school, that you would take a population, 98% genius and dumb them down to 2%. And hit one of his quotes that I love is he said uncreative behavior and thinking is learned.

Must Watch: 1946 Film Tells The Power Of Controlling Information: This Video Was Removed From Libraries By 1967: Discouraging critical thought and questioning narratives has been practiced for many years by design. This makes people easier to control. Starting with the indoctrination of youth and lasting throughout adulthood, these concepts lead people to blindly trust what they are told. Dissenting voices are more likely to be dismissed without critical thought. How many times have you seen someone say “That’s dumb, there’s no way.”, and that thing turned out to be true? For many people, this happened with the COVID response. In today’s world that’s littered with propaganda and military-grade psychological operations, it’s extremely important to question everything.

Schools are criticized for training people to be ignorant and lacking in critical thinking skills. They are seen as tools for the military industrial complex, producing obedient workers. However, parents can counteract this by providing alternative education at home. Encouraging creativity, reading diverse materials, and watching educational television can help children develop their thinking abilities. Parents should support their children's intellectual growth and not just focus on their success or being well-behaved.

Speaker 0: Schools train people to be ignorant with style. They give you the equipment that you need to be a functional ignoramus. American schools do not equip you to deal with things like logic. They don't give you the criteria by which to judge between good and bad at in any medium or format. And they prepare you to be a usable victim for a military industrial complex that needs manpower. As long as you're just smart enough to do a job and just dumb enough to swallow what they feed you, you're gonna be alright. But if you go beyond that you're gonna have these grave doubts that give you stomach problems, headaches, make you wanna go do something else. So I believe that schools mechanically and very specifically try and breathe out any hint of creative thought and the kids that are coming out. So what's the alternative for the parent who would agree with you? Well, remember that the school isn't the only place that a child gets educated. If you realize that the schools are doing damage and I believe this. I believe that schools do a lot of damage to kids. Then you should do what you can at home to help give them something to counteract what's happening to them at school. You mean encourage creativity? Encourage them to read things other than what the school gives them. Encourage them to watch things on television other than cartoons because I don't believe the television is all bad and some things that are on are very useful. And give them some support. Let them feel that you as a parent, want them to be smart not just to be successful, not just to be a nice little person that you want them to develop their thinking apparatus.

In 1938, the media reported that Hitler rolled into Austria with tanks and guns and took us over. Not true at all. The Austrian people elected Hitler by 98% of the vote by means of the ballot box. Now You might ask, how could a Christian nation, almost a 100% Catholic, to elect a monster like Hitler. The truth is, at the beginning, Hitler didn't look like or talk like a monster at all. He talked like an American politician. Had gun registration. All the Austrian people had all they all had guns, but the government said the guns are dangerous. Children are playing with guns, hunting accidents happen, and we really have to have total control safety, and we had criminals again. And the only way that we can trace the criminal was by the serial number of the gun. So we do the fully went to the police station and we registered our guns. Rooms. You bring the guns to the police station and then we don't have any crimes anymore and any accident, and if you don't do that, capital punishment. So that's what we did. So dictatorship didn't happen overnight. It took 5 years, gradually, little by little to escalate up to a dictatorship. When the people fear government, that's tyranny. Speaker 0: They are history altering developments. They will define the lives of our grandchildren. Most of the world understands this perfectly well. They can see it. Ask anyone in Asia or the Middle East what the future looks like. And yet, the populations of the English speaking countries seem mostly unaware. They think that is nothing has really changed, and they think that because no one has told them the truth. Their media outlets are corrupt. They lie to their readers and viewers, and they do that mostly by omission. For example, since the day the war in Ukraine began, American media outlets have spoken to scores of people from Ukraine, and they have done scores of interviews with Ukrainian president Zelensky. We ourselves have put in a request for interview with Zelensky, and we hope he accepts. But, the interviews he's already done in the United States are not traditional interviews. They are fawning pep Sessions, specifically designed to amplify Zelensky's demand that the US enter more deeply into a war in Eastern Europe and pay for it. That is not journalism. It is government propaganda. Propaganda of the ugliest kind. The kind that kills people. At the same time, our politicians and media outlets have been doing this, promoting a foreign leader like he's a new consumer brand, Not a single Western journalist has bothered to interview the president of the other country involved in this conflict, Vladimir Putin. Most Americans have no idea why Putin invaded Ukraine, or what his goals are now. They've never heard his voice. That's wrong. Americans have a right to know all they can about a war they're implicated in, and we have the right to tell them about it, because we are Americans too. Freedom of speech is our birthright. We were born with the right to say what we believe. That right cannot be taken away no matter who is in the White House, but they're trying anyway. Almost 3 years ago, the Biden administration illegally spied on our text messages and then leaked the contents to their servants in the news media. They did this in order to stop a Putin interview that we were planning. Last month, we're pretty certain they did exactly the same thing once again, but this time, we came to Moscow anyway. We are not here because we love Vladimir Putin. We are here because we love the United States, but we wanted to remain prosperous and free. We paid for this trip ourselves. We took no money from any government or group, nor are we charging people to see the interview. It is not behind a paywall. Anyone can watch the entire thing shot live to tape and unedited on our website, tucker carlson.com. Elon Musk, his great credit, has promised not to suppress or block this interview once we post it on his platform x, and we're grateful for that. Questioning is discouraged, with textbooks and authority figures seen as the ultimate truth. Control over media ensures that people only receive information approved by those in power, whether through government censorship or private interests.

Speaker 0: See how community trains its teachers. Speaker 1: Bear this in mind. Young people cannot be trusted to form their own opinion. This business about open mindedness is nonsense. It's a waste of time trying to teach students who think for themselves. It's our job to tell them. Speaker 0: And when teachers put such training into practice, despotism stands a good chance. These children are being taught to accept uncritically whatever they are told. Questions are not encouraged. Speaker 2: How can you ask such a question? Have you got a textbook? Yes, ma'am. Does it say here that our law courts are always just? Yes, ma'am. Then how dare you question a fact? -ed out. Speaker 0: And so we aren't surprised when Speaker 2: But it must be true. I saw it in this book right here. Speaker 0: And if books and newspapers and the radio are efficiently controlled, the people will read and accept exactly what the few in control want them to. Government censorship is one form of control. A newspaper which breaks a government censorship rule can be suspended. It is also possible for newspapers and other forms of communication to be controlled by private interests.

“American people are the most propagandized people in the whole world and they don’t even know it.” This clip is brutally honest. https://t.co/eG8HsY7Rxg

Video Transcript AI Summary
Americans are heavily propagandized, often unaware of it. Unlike people in countries like China or the old Soviet Union, Americans believe they are receiving the truth from cable news. It's concerning when prominent figures like Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow echo the same narratives. Those who speak out against the war machine, like Julian Assange, face consequences for telling the truth. Many accept what they see on news without question. The shift in the Democratic Party is evident; at the recent convention, there was a lack of critical thought, with attendees cheering for billionaires and the war machine. Conversations reveal a troubling indifference to the party's actions, such as the treatment of Kamala Harris and the dismissal of dissenting voices. The focus on issues like abortion seems superficial, reflecting a deeper disconnect within the party.

Speaker 0: Americans are the most propagandized people in the entire world, and they don't have any idea that they are. You know, at least people in China know they're being propagandized. The people in the old Soviet Union knew it was propaganda. People in America turn on Anderson Cooper, turn on, Rachel Maddow, Sean Hannity. They think they're getting the truth. They really do. They think, you know, hey. Don't you think it's a little weird when Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow are saying the exact same thing about Ukraine? Don't you think that's weird? Speaker 1: Well, yes. In fact, I did. It's funny you mentioned that. Speaker 0: Yeah. And so, you know, I try to remind people that, you know, that you got fired not because you were going along with the wars and telling the lies of the wars. When you were going along with the Iraq war, they couldn't give you enough TV shows. Right? You were on CNN. You MSNBC. Your number one guest was Rachel Maddow, then you had the number one show on Fox. It was when you started to tell the truth. They don't fire you for lying about wars. They don't they fire you for telling the truth about the wars, and that's just same reason why Julian Assange was in prison. He wasn't in prison because he lied about the war machine. He was in prison because he told the truth. And that's what people need to realize. And I try to I ask people when I have these conversations with my old liberal friends from Hollywood, the ones who still talk to me, and I'll say, is there anything you hear on cable news that you don't believe? Is there anything? And you know what? They never say anything back. They never say, well, I don't believe that. They never say anything. They just change the subject or move on to something else. Speaker 2: You really think they're just accepting the whole sandwich? Yes. Just swallowing without chewing. Speaker 0: Just Yes. And that was the, you know, beginning of the end for me was, when I wouldn't go along with Hillary Clinton because I was a big I've always been a liberal progressive, and, I supported Bernie Sanders. I thought we were really close to doing something. At that convention in 2016 in Philadelphia, I was there, and you walked into the convention hall, and half the people in there wanted to overthrow the democratic establishment. Half the people there wanted to get corporate money out of politics, and there was lots of friction. They were turning the lights out. They were using sound can. It was and it really felt like we were about to do something. Right? And then I went to the last convention just this year in Chicago, and it was like a stepford's wife's convention. It was brainwashed, brain dead, go alongs. Nobody had a a thought in their head. Nope. There was there's cheering on billionaires and cheering on the war machine, and it was grown. CIA director. Bill billionaires on stage from from, you know, Oprah talking about how she's a victim of sexism and racism. That was one of the funniest things. That's like, Oprah, since I've been in college, she's been a highly touted celebrity with her own television show. There might have been a time in her life when she was discriminated against, but, boy, she certainly made up for it. And for her to be the voice of that was really disgusting. And then you had, you know, Pritzker come on stage. I'm a real billionaire, and people are cheering like, is this the Democratic Party? The Democratic Party And so that's what happened with Bill Clinton. They treat Speaker 2: you, by the way, at the convention? Speaker 0: I couldn't stay there a lot. I had a pass to be on the floor. It honestly, it depressed me, to the point of almost tears, and I would go up to people. I would go up to delegates, and I would say, does it bother you that the the the party who's putting democracy on the ballot, throughout 14,000,000 ballots and installed Kamala Harris. And to a person, they would all say there was a process. She followed the process. They didn't care. Nobody cared. They don't care anything. They didn't care that she didn't get a vote. They don't care that they threw out the guy who did get a vote. They don't care that they were lied to about his mental, his dementia for years. They didn't mind. Nothing. Nothing. And they were all about it was the only it was and they talk about abortion at the convention like it's a day it's like it's Christmas. And, you know, like, hey. I'm I I always, you know, like Bill Lib Lib the old Liberals, I always was like, you know, let's let's make, abortion safe, legal, and rare.

Taking responsibility for your life often leads to questioning the status quo. You start to wonder why modern medicine focuses on symptom suppression rather than true health. It’s puzzling that we pay extra for organic food while processed options are the norm. Additionally, the education system seems to promote a singular source of knowledge from institutional authority, discouraging independent thinking. This raises concerns about the overall direction of society and the values being instilled in future generations.

Why is everything upside down? You begin to look around like, I wonder why modern medicine is based around symptom suppressing pharmaceuticals that will literally never help you get healthy. That's weird. And, I wonder why we have to pay extra for food that doesn't have poison on it. Shouldn't all the food just be organic as standard and the food with poison on it have a label? Yeah. That doesn't seem right. And, It's kinda weird that we send our kids to school to get an education, but instead what they really get taught is that there's only a single source of knowledge, truth, and information, and it comes from institutional authority. And if you don't submit to it, you are a bad kid. Right. Okay.

“I don’t want a nation of thinkers, I want a nation of workers” - John D Rockefeller The entire system is rigged against us all. https://t.co/nOkl8UycNn

Video Transcript AI Summary
John D. Rockefeller, from the oil industry, funded the General Education Board in 1903, stating he wanted a nation of workers, not thinkers. The board aimed to create schools focused on obedience, memorization, and preparing students for 9-to-5 jobs. Rockefeller also funded Big Pharma and medical schools to shift people from natural healing to pharmaceutical-based care. This created a system where schools create workers who become sick and require pharmaceutical drugs, generating endless profit for Rockefeller. The education system is a monopoly breeding workers for the elites' financial gain.

Speaker 0: John D. Rockefeller was one of the richest men in the entire world from the oil industry. And in nineteen o three, he funded the general education board with a famous quote of saying, I don't want a nation of thinkers. I want a nation of workers. The general education board's main objective was to create schools that focused on obeying authority, following rules, memorizing, not thinking, and breeding you to work nine to five jobs for elite corporations. That is why we see the mundane subjects in school of things like math, English, and other subjects. And I mean, even look at our schools. They look like prisons. But here's where things get really messed up. John D. Rockefeller also funded big pharma and medical schools with the initiative being from taking people from natural healing remedies towards pharmaceutical based care. And from this, he created a perfect system. The schools create the workers. They work forever, which makes them sick. Then they have to take pharmaceutical drugs to stay alive. And from that, he makes endless money. Our education system is really just a monopoly. It is breeding workers so that the elites keep making more money. This is why it is more important than ever.

The speaker explains a distinction between absolute risk and relative risk and shows how both can be technically true but convey different impressions. Absolute risk is described as the real chance of something happening, while relative risk compares two small numbers to emphasize one as much larger than the other, often making the risk appear much bigger or smaller than it truly is. Using a jar example, absolute risk is the chance of drawing a red marble from a jar with 10,000 marbles and only one red marble—a one in ten thousand chance. Relative risk, by contrast, compares two jars: if another jar has two red marbles, the statement would be that you have a 100% greater chance of drawing a red marble in this jar than in the first jar. Although the numbers are both small, the relative risk has doubled. The speaker argues that relative risk is a favorite tool of fearmongers because it makes tiny numbers sound large, whereas absolute risk shows the real-world odds. The speaker then applies this to headlines. A headline claims you are 800 times more likely to get sick from raw milk than from pasteurized milk, labeling this as a relative risk number. It is technically true, but the absolute risk of illness from raw milk is about 1 in 13,000 for the people who drink it, which is less than one one-hundredth of a percent. A similar framing is discussed with COVID-19 vaccines. The Pfizer vaccine is described as 95% effective in headlines, which the speaker notes is the relative risk reduction. In the trial data, the absolute risk reduction—the actual difference in risk between vaccinated and unvaccinated groups—was about 0.8%, less than one percent. The speaker asserts that this shot lowers actual risk by less than one percent, but the media emphasized the 95% figure. While not called a lie, this framing is characterized as incredibly misleading and capable of influencing public decisions. The overarching message is that statistics can be technically true yet used to manipulate public opinion through framing. The speaker urges readers to compare whether a number refers to relative risk or absolute risk whenever confronted with alarming or astonishing headlines. Relative risk is said to sell headlines; absolute risk is said to tell the truth.

Speaker 0: If you don't understand this trick, you will be easy to manipulate. It's been used by the government, by big corporations, and by the media to control public thought and behavior. This is how people use numbers that are technically true to make things sound way scarier or way safer than they actually are. Here's the trick. Absolute risk is the real chance of something happening. Think about a jar with 10,000 marbles in it and only one of them is red. Your chance of picking the red marble is one in ten thousand. That's the absolute risk. Now relative risk compares two tiny numbers to make one of them sound huge. So if there's another jar and it has two red marbles, they'll say, you have a 100% more chance of getting a red marble in this jar than you do in this jar. Well, your chance went from one in ten thousand to two in ten thousand, both small numbers, but your chance has doubled. Relative risk is the favorite tool of fearmongers because it makes a tiny number sound huge. Absolute risk shows the real world odds. Now watch how this plays out. You've seen the headline, you're eight hundred and forty times more likely to get sick from raw milk than from pasteurized milk. That's a relative risk number. It is technically true. But the absolute risk of getting sick from raw milk is about one in thirteen thousand for the people who drink it. That is less than one one hundred of one percent. They pulled the same move with COVID vaccines. Do you remember the headlines? The Pfizer vaccine is ninety five percent effective. That number was blasted everywhere. But here's the truth. That was the relative risk reduction. When you dig into the actual trial data, the absolute risk reduction, the real difference between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated groups was about point eight percent, less than one percent. They could have said this shot lowers your actual risk by less than one percent. But they didn't. They went with the bigger, scarier sounding number, ninety five percent. And people made life changing decisions based on that framing. It wasn't technically a lie, but it was incredibly misleading. And that should make you angry because it shows how much public opinion can be manipulated by the way statistics are presented. So whether it's food safety or medicine, statistics can be technically true but still used to trick you. Next time you hear a scary or amazing number in a headline, ask, are they talking about relative risk or absolute risk? Relative risk, it sells headlines. Absolute risk tells the truth.

Video Transcript AI Summary
Speaker 0 explains a common manipulation in presenting statistics, distinguishing absolute risk from relative risk. Absolute risk is defined as the real chance of something happening. Relative risk compares two small numbers to make one seem much larger, often used to fear-mmonger. The example given is a jar with 10,000 marbles, one red marble. The chance of picking the red marble is one in ten thousand—that is the absolute risk. If there is a second jar with two red marbles, the relative risk comparison would say you have a 100% more chance of getting a red marble in this jar than in the first jar. Even though the absolute probabilities are both very small, the relative risk makes the difference appear dramatic. Relative risk is described as a favorite tool of fearmongers because it makes a tiny number sound huge, whereas absolute risk shows the real-world odds. The speaker then applies this distinction to headlines. They cite a headline claiming you are “eight hundred and forty times more likely to get sick from raw milk than from pasteurized milk.” This is a relative risk number and is technically true, but the absolute risk of getting sick from raw milk is about one in thirteen thousand for the people who drink it, which is less than one one-hundredth of one percent. The same framing tactic is said to have been used with COVID vaccines. Regarding vaccines, the Pfizer vaccine is described as “ninety-five percent effective,” a number that was widely publicized. The speaker notes that this figure is the relative risk reduction. When examining the actual trial data, the absolute risk reduction—the real difference between the vaccinated and unvaccinated groups—was about 0.8 percent, less than one percent. The speaker emphasizes that the shot “lowers your actual risk by less than one percent,” but this was not the framing chosen; instead, the larger, scarier-sounding percentage was presented. The argument is that people made significant life decisions based on that framing. The overall message is that statistics can be technically true yet misleading, influencing public opinion in areas like food safety or medicine. The recommended approach when encountering scary or amazing numbers in headlines is to ask whether the figure refers to relative risk or absolute risk. The speaker concludes: relative risk sells headlines; absolute risk tells the truth.
